I had contacted numerous junk removal companies. Junk King was the only one who actually came to my home to see what was needed to be removed and where everything was located. I sent pictures but that does not provide enough information. Very pleasant and walked me through what needed to be done. I had heavy items - washer, dryer, radiators in my basement. Not an easy project! Provided a reasonable quote and needed two teams to accomplish. Within a few days we had date set and the guys were amazing!!! So friendly- even with a tough job. If I could leave negative stars, I would. We caught the company on the alley working for a neighbor. We were moving and had old furniture in our back yard. We asked them to come take a look and give us a quote. $300-$400 they said. So we set up an appointment. They showed up on time and started loading some pieces. The truck was pretty full already when they arrived. They got a dresser and some drawers, then declared I had "ticks" on my furniture. They wouldn't take any more and tried to charge $500 for the few pieces they did take. What a scam. I would not recommend them to anyone. Ever. read more

They cleaned my flood damaged basement man cave (35 yrs accumulation of stuff) in an hour! This included furniture, books, electronics, refrigerator and even a freezer. I am giving 4-starts instead of 5 because of a slight booking issue on behalf of JK. They sorted it out, gave a discount, so in my book that is good service. The price, as I understood from the start and was quoted, was a little high. I still paid for it, and am okay with it, but I feel high.... Anyway, I had a pile (about 1/4 of a truck worth) of stuff I simply couldn't toss. Anything from a rusted out fire pit, to removed bits of a basement wall, to dried paint cans and concrete chunks. A true big sping cleaning. They came, gathered it all up from my drive, swept and left. Superior. Will pay to just make the mess go away. read more

Had Appointment for 8-10 AM (out of Northbrook office) Never received a call (Later today I did find a call on my caller ID, which did not register enough time to ring the phone (.01 sec)). Called the corporate office during the time that my appointment was scheduled and then Crew chief called me back saying they were at my home and I wasn't there and proceeded to argue with me and hang up on me. He said they were in Des Plaines now, and could not circle back. I have been sitting in my living room since before 8 AM otherwise on my drive way. I took a day off from work for this. NO ONE WAS HERE!!!! He would not even consider that he was at the wrong address and banged on my neighbors door. What a scam!!!!!!!! He said they banged on the door, and left their card. None of that happened. I have tons of furniture being delivered tomorrow, and the old furniture needed to be removed. I may have to cancel the delivery and pay a huge fee. Will never recommend you guys, although I did earlier this year when you were reliable. Called the other "guys" on their way right now!!!!!! The crew chief did not offer another time, which I would have accepted because as I stated I was going to be home all day. In fact, he was abusive, and never offered any alternative and hung up. I would have even accepted tomorrow morning. My phone never rang, as I noted. They did not even give enough time and effort to let the phone ring. My door bell is also in working order. Over and done now. Will not use again. BTW, this ended up being a larger load than it seemed, so you gave up a $$$ job. read more

My visit started with an in-home estimate from Patrick, the boss. He came on time and assured me that even though our basement (which was the junk removal project) had access only from INSIDE our house, his guys could handle it. And, indeed they did. Both Angie Castellanos and Matt Kerlin were my primary workers for the day and they did a wonderful job. This was not easy; everything had to come up from the basement, on a cornered staircase, and through my front door. The clean up afterward was awesome, and these young men could not have been nicer. I don't what happen here, but my experience today was totally contradictory to all the other reviews of this company. They were very prompt, they did call 20 mins prior to arrival, but then came the quotation... I have ~9 yrds of construction debris. Their verbal quote after viewing the debris was $580. I asked about them matching a written quote from an Angie's List provider for $300. They said no. So I said no thank you. Before the truck left my driveway I received a written quote from them for $776, which is more than double the cost of a roll off dumpster. I sent an email to the office outlining my concerns about the mis-matching quotes, the outrageous pricing and the denial of matching the written competitor quote. As of yet no response from the office. Extremely disappointing and they totally crush my expectations bases on all the positive reviews here. read more

This is the 2nd time we've used Junk King, and they deserve 5 stars. This time they hauled away old decking and 4 big bushes. Armand and his crew were punctual, professional, and quick (even in the sweltering heat). Their rates were fair. I got an estimate from a competitor which was literally 5 times the price and they wanted to charge $130 an hour labor to break a few longer pieces of wood. These guys broke down whatever they needed and raked and cleaned up an small debris before leaving, no questions asked. We have used the Northbrook Junk King a couple times now. Just the other day, we had a BIG Sony HD Tube TV removed from a 2nd floor room in the house. It was HEAVY. No problem! Removed without a scratch to the walls, floors, stairs. About a year-and-a-half ago, we cleaned out the basement and there were a number of heavy, difficult-to-move items that had to go. I ordered the service easily online and immediately received an email confirming my order. I was given a two hour window and they came towards the beginning of the window. The workers, Alan and Eric, were remarkable. It is one of those awful hot and muggy days with heat warnings. They quickly gave me an estimate and started hauling things right away. Both Alan and Eric were personable, professional, hard working, never complained, and much faster than I thought given the weather. I felt the cost was very reasonable. Previously had a very good experience with them. This time project was handled by a junior who just doesn't give the same service as the father. We agreed on a price of $400. They used a truck and a half and still had half a truck empty. There was a bit more stuff that might not have been part of the original quote. Asked them to add it, they demanded another $298 more.
