Not everything is actually vintage/used, some of it is bulk purchase. I'm sure this place is amazing for costumes. Personally found the regular clothes to be overpriced. One item had an original price tag on it still, and the Junkee price was actually higher. I pointed it out to their buyer and she begrudgingly said they'd "honor the lower price". Ya think? Found much better pricing and good selection at Goodwill and Savers instead. read more

This review is meant to reflect the customer service on the Antiques side. On November 1st 2018, at 12:30pm, I approached the checked out counter to buy a few nicknacks that I allowed my son to pick out. There were two older white women with lighter-colored longish hair making bigoted political comments as I walked up. This was completely unprofessional and I felt ashamed that my son was hearing these comments. People are entitled to their viewpoints but as a small-business owner, I would strongly suggest that these women seek employment elsewhere if they plan on discussing their bigotry and racism in the open. Wow, this place is great! Even before I moved to Reno, Junkee's was a destination whenever we came to town. So much retro vintage costume-y goodness!! Junkee's has an antique side and a vintage clothing side, both of which were great in different ways. The antique mall side seems to have little booths like the antique malls I've worked at in the past with a ton of jewelry, books, dolls, and fun collectable brick-a-brack. i've found some favorite jewelry there in the past The clothing side has a wide yet well-organized variety of truly gorgeous clothes ranging from total Burning Man costume party Halloween wig out wildness to the dress I wore to my aunt and uncle's house for dinner tonight. Prices reasonable, nice quality. Extra bonus plus, big free parking lot. Pretty bitchin' all around. It's nice to know there's such a great vintage emporium in Reno. read more

First of all, I I'd like to say that I'm all for shopping local and supporting local businesses, but businesses should also create good shopping experiences for patrons. As many other reviewers have stated, I used to come to this store pretty often before, when their prices for a simple skirt or a simple top were in the $7 to $10 dollar range, I went just this last Saturday to look for a skirt, and came across prices in the range of $15 to $20, and used jackets between $45 to $60. The items I looked at were not vintage, they were just used. Same name brand you'd find at a Ross or Burlington type of stores, but higher in price, and used instead of new. I also looked at some rings, and found one I considered buying. It was a sterling silver poison ring, I had been in the search for one, and found one I really liked, but when I looked at the price, I thought "no way..." It was 70 dollars! I own one myself that I bought from an antique market for under $30, and I think this type of jewelry can be found at The Pathways or Art Dogs at a more reasonable price. Now onto the customer service, or lack thereof, as a few other reviewers have pointed out. I was not approached a single time the whole time I was at the store. As I was browsing the antiques department, at least three different associates walked right past me, and not a single one of them greeted me. I was walking by the back section of the store, and an associate was walking behind me, and seemed to be in a hurry, but couldn't bring herself to even say excuse me, so I moved out of the way for her. Two other employees walked right past me, really engaged in their own conversation, that they couldn't even smile at me. I have read the responses to negative reviews from the owner, and most of them seem to only defend the employees lack of customer service, rather than seeing them as opportunities for additional customer service training. There was a lady who reviewed that she felt she was only greeted because she felt she was a suspect of shoplifting, to which the owner replied that she has trained her employees to greet every single person who walks through the door, but in my experiences recently, I've only been greeted with "have a good day" when I'm walking out the door empty handed. I worked retail for 6 years, including managerial positions, and visual merchandising positions, I understand how some customers might be unreasonable or might exaggerate their claims. But other customers, do have very valid, solid points that should be taken into consideration to make positive changes that will encourage customers to continue to bring in their business to you. Not sure I'll be back to Junkee in all honesty, because of the prices and the bad customer service. If I do come back in the future, I hope that at least the customer service has improved. read more

I'm falling more and more out of love with this place. After overhearing the owner, very obviously and loudly, complain about store drama, my opinion of this place took a nose dive. After I had to wait to be helped so she could finish complaining to a store clerk, I pretty much left feeling really annoyed. Don't let your head get so big you lose sight of what's right. What's more? They are selling ugly (used and extremely dated, obviously) Christmas sweaters for no less than $20. The ugly sweater thing is now a "thing" so, of course, Junkee has to monopolize the inventory of hideous Christmas sweaters you would normally find on a back rack at Savers, with dust on it, and price them like they're gold. I guess I'll have to go with a new theme for my Christmas pictures this year because I refuse to spend more than $10 on a musty sweater that my 3rd grade teacher wore in 1990. Ugh. read more

I'll take the store credit every time. Every time I need a costume for a party or a crawl, they have me covered. The owner, Jessica, is super cool and everyone who works there is so friendly. Lina helped me find the perfect Halloween costume. Love this place. Oh, and they recently started doing Mystery Bags where you give them your sizes and examples of your favorite outfits and they put together a surprise for you since you can't currently go into the store. If you are put-off by the occasional hole in a SECOND HAND article of clothing, you're a disgrace to vintage shoppers everywhere. Kidding. But seriously, what do you expect? Perhaps you should head over to the Gap...I hear they don't have any holes (or style) on their racks. 2.If you really got that much attitude from the sweet ladies who work here, I have to think you were asking for it. I've been in there many times and never had anything less than friendly, and most of them time they are just amazing. 3. Complaints about what they buy for vs. what they sell it for? C'mon... This is a business. You've obviously never heard of a retail markup. That's how they keep the doors open. Now, on to the good stuff. I like to think of myself as a Junkee celebrity lately. What I really mean is that when I walk in the door I am recognized and cheerfully greeted by at least of the ladies. I have been shopping in there a LOT lately. I have a bit of an obsession with vintage dresses and this place has got what I need. :) The girls always come over to the dressing room and help me zip up when needed and shower me in compliments. What else could a girl want from a vintage store? The prices are great. Can you find a treasure for a few less dollars at another thrift store? Sure, but the ladies at Junkee have done a lot of the digging for you and dropped it all in one place. I'll pay a couple of extra bucks for that. I'm not a Reno native and Junkee is one of the few things that makes me say, "hey, maybe this town isn't so awful." My sister and I came in yesterday to find a jar for her work and were proceeded to be followed by 2 ladies who work there throughout the store. Being of color and and being followed by 2 older white ladies was quite unsettling. I love their selection and love looking at things and we have bought from them before but this last time made me uncomfortable. This place is really a crapshoot. Generally I feel both the antique side and the clothing areas are filled with, well I'll just say it, crap. But if the planets are aligned jussst right, you can find some amazing stuff in here. I have found over the years: - A pair of red leather, vintage boots from italy. I adore them and wear them constantly. - Custom tailored in Tokyo, a vintage corduroy blazer from the 70s/80s. The sleeves are too long for me but dammit I wear it anyways. - A golden pin in the shape of guns and roses. HA HA. - A red scarf with landmarks of Vienna. If you are going to sell your clothes, be advised that they never buy what you think they are going to buy. The staff here is of varying opinions on quality. I have had some less than pleasant experiences dealing with them, but then I remember this is basically a thrift store with an edit button. High fashion it is not. Recommend a visit if you're in Midtown, otherwise, take a pass. read more

Jessica is a clothing goddess! There. I said it. She creates groovy hats, jackets, and all kinds of other funky threads out of the used clothes that people sell to her. Then, there's all the regular clothes that are there and those are very stylish as well. But, try and get a Jessica original, if you can. I made two purchases there this year for Burning Man. The first was for a Ladies Night party where I had to find a pretty dress. I picked out 4 that I hoped to fit in. Jessica helped me zip up and she and the other ladies critiqued my choices. I settled on a shiny red number with lots of glittery bits. It was a huge hit! I was the belle of the ball, for sure! The other purchase was when I wandered back in from selling Utilikilts across the street. I happened to notice an interesting light brown leather jacket with fur and raccoon tails attached to it. Huh? Yup. You heard me. Coon tails. I tried it on. It fit! Damn it. I have to buy it now! I wore it out on the playa and Megan (lovely redhead who works there) shouted "You're wearing my coat! I made that one!" Well, a beautiful redhead can make me a jacket any day. And there's another lovely blonde girl who works there, but I can never remember her name. She just always smiles and gives me eyes. Oh dear. It's too bad I don't live in town. I'll have to stop by again to flirt with the girls next time I'm in Reno. Yes the clothes are preowned, but Junkee only handles the best stuff. I've never gone in there without walking out with three or things. Everybody who works there is very friendly and nobody ever tries to up sell you. I love Junkee! They have the best ideas for costumes, events, parties. It's always a ton of fun to shop here. Any time I have a theme party to attend I always make sure to pop into Junkee. The staff here is on point 100% of the time! They are all so friendly, and more than willing to help you put together an outfit. They're all great at accessorizing, and they really know how to complete any outfit/style. The only "bad" thing I can say is that I always end up spending more than I intend. Which really isn't a bad thing, because the outfit will be to perfection. I do love going here and telling one of the girls the theme of the party I'm going to, and my size clothing, and they literally put together the entire outfit. It's a lot of fun. Everyone is always so bubbly in this place. I like to sometimes go just to be put in a good mood. Smiles on everyone's faces all the time. And this place is not just for costuming, or theme parties. They have formal dress for the ladies, and suit jackets and slacks for the guys. If you're on a budget, or just budget conscious this is your place. I've also bought shoes here, they have a whole back wall dedicated to shoes. Just about any type/style of shoe you're looking for, they're sure to have. They have pretty cute everyday clothes as well. From shirts, to skirts, jeans, sweaters. They've got it all. Don't forget about the antique side. I don't go in there often, but they always have funky stuff to go through. While living in San Francisco, I would spend hours in thrift stores. It was something I did weekly! When I moved out to Lake Tahoe, I was in need of a fix. I drove out to Reno, and when the quirky Junkeez parking lot came into view, I turned in. I didn't expect too much, I had my reservations about Reno having cool things. Junkeez proved me wrong. I spend a good couple of hours in this store. The clothing side has a great shoe selection, and all the clothes are organized so meticulously. Everything from "Short Skirts" to "Ugly Christmas Sweaters" -- Junkeez did it so that sorting time is limited! The antique selection is AWESOME! They have such great stuff. All the things that would have made it through my "no garbage" filter was displayed in this store. And the difference between the nice SF vintage stores as opposed to Junkeez? These prices are marked down so beautifully. read more

Junkee is the touch stone of Midtown, Reno. I believe it has been there long before the Midtown boom. Plus they are always listed as the #1 place in Reno for collectibles (clothes to antiques) in many of the flea market magazines. I come from a long line of antique dealers, Junkers and let's face it plain ol' hoarders. In an effort to downsize, the time has come for me to sell off my 30 year collection of cameras, toys, Fiesta-ware, etc. Unfortunately, the antique section has a 2 page waiting list with my name on the bottom. The place is huge! I've always found the staff friendly at times a little cheeky but that part of their charm. Currently, Junkee has 3 sections: Clothing: Burners, crawlers, costume seekers or vintage clothes wearers can find everything they could ever need here-- vintage clothes to the new funky accessories. This is the largest section. Antiques: Nice mix of classic to pop culture collectibles. There's always new stuff coming in so it's always a good time to pop in for a look. Homemade: This is the newest section. Handmade items from local artists and upcyclers. Good mix of paintings, furniture, jewelry, etc. I hope this section grows! No good scores to report as I said earlier I'm downsizing. read more

I always find terrific, unbelievable, wonderful, adorable clothes for a quarter of the price they would be in the city. This was a cool store to go to but way over priced on items that are not really antiques but mostly copies of antiques . All the "old "signs were made in last 90s-2000s and way over priced . Most of everything that caught my eye was something that could be purchased online or else where for a more fair price . My wife found a couple things she liked and purchased and was happy . This is my favorite clothing store in Reno. Period. Every time (and I mean EVERY TIME), I strike gold. The clothes are absolutely adorable and totally original. The vintage stuff is fantastic - and fit for curvy girls like me! I lived in San Francisco for a few years and I always hated vintage clothing stores because A) the prices were obscene and Z) the stores were always so picked over, I never had a chance. Junkee isn't like that at all. There's plenty of treasures awaiting you. Also, the antique section is really rad....especially the Burner Boutique in the back. I found some clever penis pendants (that I later used for necklaces) and several amazing vintage dresses. I've found a GREAT suit for the mans before, too. The staff is really nice. One girl remembers me every time I come in, and she's always ready to make suggestions for me. They really know their stuff and they know exactly what you're into.
