After a long walk on the Hudson Waterfront Walkway and Washington Street, I walked past Jun's Macaron & Gelato Shop. It's a small shop but it is loaded with dessert options. In my book there is no wrong time to try some gelato so in I went. This place boasts authentic Italian gelato. They feature many gelato options including: Sea Salt Caramel, French Vanilla and Strawberry Milk Snow which I decided to try. The gelato is creamy, an explosion of flavor and fabulous to the last spoonful. It was over $9. I also noticed their large selection of macarons which were a little bit larger than an Oreo but the filling was twice as thick. Perhaps my first mistake was ordering a sweet treat via Ubereats to satisfy my craving. If you find yourself in the same position as me, steer clear. I got a chocolate temptation cake and a brookie bar. The chocolate temptation cake was a bit smaller than I expected, but quality over quantity, right? Wrong. Walked in to try their pastries, upon asking about the tarts the cashier didn't know what was in it, which is fine, I took the chance on it and got the yogurt fruit tart anyways. After taking the first bite it felt like it would have tasted good a week ago. This tart had obviously been sitting for days; the yogurt filling cracked and it was very dry and crumbly, she shell was horribly stale, and the "fruit" sauce had developed a dull stretchy film over it to indicate the lack of freshness. I was trying to find a place to buy cronuts and am very happy I came across Jun's. I purchased a cronut and a birthday cake macaron, which were both very good. However, the highlight for me was the croffle, which I had them top with tiramisu gelato. Absolutely outstanding! I made numerous stops at local eateries in New York and New Jersey on my trip to the area and this was one of my favorites, so much so that I knew as soon as I ate the food that I had to write them a review. The staff was also very kind and allowed my group to try out various gelato samples during our stop. However, be careful of the parking outside (2 hours minimum on the meters for street parking) because the meter maids were constant and gave out a lot of tickets. Thankfully, I was OK. Decided to split the Nutella-Filled Croissant Doughnut ($5.25). A bulky glazed doughnut filled with a substantial amount of the chocolate-hazelnut spread. Usually with these gimmicky items, the actual pastry is stale. This doughnut, however, was flaky and soft. Filling was a bit of an overkill, as it became too sweet by the end (thankfully was sharing, so was able to finish). Pricing is high, yet can't take anything away from the product. The photo I saw on this shop's board is NOT this shop's product!! This shop stole other ice cream shop's photo to show it as theirs! That means they are doing false advertising!! I'd get get a plain cronut from here (don't recall if they have them). - Boston cream pie: nice chocolate topping and cronut, but the cream is flavorless - apple cinnamon: nice sugar coating and cronut, apple cinnamon flavor is decent. - jelly: nice frosting and cronut, jelly was okay. The only downside to this place is the scarcity of available parking spots, tight & narrow side streets , & pothole infested roadways but it IS in the middle of the nightlife in Hoboken so the owner picked a great spot for business. The sitting space was limited, but everything was cleanly & well maintained. The owner made suggestions & answered all of our questions. There are a variety of options here. The gelato is homemade & is vegan friendly! There are also some gluten-free options FYI if that's what floats your boat. What's interesting is that they also offer Bulgogi and a few other Korean-style dishes. Next time I wanted dessert near Hoboken, this is the spot to be. The cronuts and cake slices are fantastic - fresh, not too greasy, just the right amount of sweet. I strongly recommend the carrot cake and the chocolate covered cronut. However, I was really quite disappointed by the macarons. All 6 flavors I tried (save 1, passion fruit) tasted very artificial. I'd even say that biting into the lavender one was like eating a bar of scented soap. I normally don't order any carrot cake bc it tends to have nuts in it (I'm allergic) on their menu there's no mention of nuts and that's why I ordered it, but when I got home and had a bite, IT HAD NUTS. I don't get what the hype is about this place and why it has great reviews. I went here for the first time over two years ago soon after they opened. I ordered gelato and the taste was just... watery. I love ice cream and rarely turn it down but this stuff just didn't taste like ice cream should - creamy, sugary and full of joy. I ended up throwing the last half away because it wasn't enjoyable. Two years later, I saw the reviews pile up and decided to go back and try their rolled ice cream. Again, very disappointed and it tasted watery and bland. The pastry part was done well. Crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. There was a sugar glaze on the outside for two, and chocolate icing on the boston creme.
