Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. Never had anything like that before. Not too sweet and very flaky. It has a ribbon of red on the outside which gives it a unique look. I would love to come back and try savory items. The one saving grace, and the reason I'm giving them three stars instead of less, is their financiers. They remain excellent--moist, nutty, and full of flavor, just as I remembered. The bakery has roots in Northern France and Belgium, where the Merveilleux originated, but pastry chef Frédéric Vaucamps reinvented the classic recipe to make it lighter and more modern. The chocolate and almond croissant was delicate, flaky, and exactly what a croissant should be. The shop itself is small, no indoor seating, but two benches out front!
