Such a cute and quaint cafe with authentic French pastries and chocolates. Came in on a weekend afternoon and most of the pastries were already gone by then. Thankfully I was able to snag the last apple turnover. It was very filling - the size of my hand, and not too sweet which I prefer. I did wish they offered to heat it up as I was planning to eat it right away. For drinks I got a hot chocolate with oat milk and my friend ordered an iced cafe latte. The ice cubes themselves are actually frozen coffee which is a brilliant idea. Seating is limited - it seems most people grab and go. There is also one table outside which makes for great people watching.

You can count on one hand the number of true patisseries in Jersey City--as in ones that make entremet pastries and not just puff pastries. I really wanted to love L'Atelier, but our experience was too mixed. The good: - Pumpkin Mousse (seasonal) - Pistachio Opera The aiight: - Rice Krispie Cheesecake (great separately, should never be combined--too hard to eat with a spoon or fork) - Ganache Cake (too dense without much variety) - Chocolate Brownie (too light on flavor) - Canele (not chewy enough) Not opposed to trying their new creations when they rotate in, but this wasn't quite the Manhattan-esque slam dunk I was hoping for.

Chef and staff so warm and welcoming! Chocolate heaven! Went looking for a gift, I found a selection of assorted truffles. Also left with hazelnut chocolate croissant, mini pack of chocolate and pound cake as well as hot chocolate. Tons of indessert options, had a small seating area. It's a very dangerous place to visit if you're trying to avoid sweets!

I am still a big fan of Matcha Yuzu Opera. It is simply delicious especially when matcha sponges were made very moist. I get disappointed if it was sold out or the chef didn't make it on my visit. The spread of Yuzu Marmalade on top of the cake makes big difference. When it was replaced by squeezes of white butter cream, it became totally different taste and flavor, which i didn't care at all. The white milky cream in between layers tastes so good as well. It blends perfectly with matcha sponge and Yuzu marmalade in your mouth. I have also tried a madelane raspberry cheesecake, a madelane lemon cheesecake, a chocolate hazelnut opera, and a flan. Both cheesecakes were very flavorful and could spread raspberry or lemon flavor in my mouth right after the first bite. I liked both very much. I also really liked a chocolate hazelnut opera. Its chocolate hazelnut cream was so good. In the end, I liked all of their "opera" cakes. Flan was okay. Not my favorite. It was just a baked version of flan. It's too simple.

Breathtaking pastries right in the middle of Jersey City. This small spot is nestled away near the Newark Avenue pedestrian path away from all the crazy bars and such which gives this a nice friendly neighborhood vibe. The selection on display is plentiful though their online menu shows more items available. Their tarts are nice and sweet and exploding with flavors and textures. The macaroons are ones you can enjoy every single bite and crumb and totally be taken away. The lava cake is amazing and the chocolate in there is perfectly balanced - not too overwhelming, not too sweet but still decadent enough to be packing enough quality into one cake. The apple turnover pastry they have light, flaky and fresh. This is a decent breakfast item and is typically available as well.

I am on a mission to try every cake on their menu and it is a mission that I am thoroughly enjoying! Passion Cheesecake - Absolutely delicious. Sweet cream, tartness from the passion fruit combined with crunchy, buttery base and creamy cheesecake - sums up a perfectly balanced dessert. My favorite! Green Tea Tart - Great, buttery tart shell. The filling is caramelly in texture and a little too sweet for me but Hubby likes it. You get a bonus macaron and delicious sweet cream on top of the tart! Lava Cake - Not too sweet, I like it. Bittersweet of the chocolate comes through. I enjoyed the combo of gooey, molten center and cakey crust. Financier Ganache - Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The ganache is little too thick, too much and chocolatey for me, but fans of chocolate may enjoy it. Will update the reviews as I try out other items on their menu! Tip: Order through their website, prices are cheaper than through Grubhub or Seamless!

What a gem in downtown Jersey city ! Beautiful tarts, delectable macaroons in an inviting boutique setup. Love it I cannot stop myself from trying one of their macarons whenever I walk past this shop. So far I have tried almond financier, ALL flavors of macaroons, chocolate ganache and financier chocolate and wasn't disappointed once. Staff is extremely friendly and answer your questions patiently. I highly recommend this shop (even though it is on the pricier side, everything is super in quality)

(+) Fast service, order online and come within minutes. Good presentation (-) too sweet. Way too sweet . took a bite and get rid of them all. Should have options with less sugar cake and adjustable sugar level for the beverage if they want to have more audiences.

    Amazing La Tropezienne cake!!!

Native of South of France, La Tropezienne cake was created by this family in the 50s. They are now offering an amazing experience in Jersey City. L'Atelier du Chocolat is unique, special and everything transports you to France. Highly recommended, you must discover new tastes and smells!!!!

Great place and one of the best chocolate shops in Jersey City :) All the beauties are made by chef Eric Girerd by himself and he is one of the nicest person I've ever met! Their "Baba au rum" was soooo great... The place is not so big, but cozy with a nice atmosphere! Thank you Eric and all the team for give us all at Jersey City such an opportunity to start ours day with your sweets and treats! Wishing them a very good luck. Recommend this place to everyone!

When walking inside I had very much liked the interior as it was pretty cute with the clear chairs etc. Everything was served in very cute fine china. We sat against the wall where there was a table with a cute brown couch chair. As for the petit square, it was very sweet. It's a very small cake type of desert. If you don't like sweet things I wouldn't recommend ordering these! I found it to be quite delicious:)

Note that since the pandemic, they closed their cafe in NYC and instead are opening a new one in Jersey City, which is where we picked up the petit fours. I ordered 16 petit fours, which came in 5 flavors: coffee, vanilla, lavender, rose, and lemon. They came beautifully represented and colorful, and each was a work of art. They looked exactly as shown on the website. Unfortunately, the actual taste didn't match the looks! The outer glaze appears to be made of completely of sugar, which made each petit four way too sweet and sugary. It was hard too tell, but the cake inside the petit four itself was OK, but it was ruined by the glazed sugar layer surrounding it. The flavors were each relatively mediocre and not inspired. I wonder if they just used artificial flavorings rather than the real thing? In order of flavors from best to worst: rose, vanilla, lemon, lavender, and coffee. We can't bring ourselves to finish the remaining petit fours, so I'll be giving them away at a public meetup event. Anyway, I am quite disappointed and I don't think I'll buy again from Bon Vivant. Really let down that a place whose image is based on petits fours makes some of the worst I've ever had.

So get anything fresh, like made to order cakes or things you see come out right when you're there. Otherwise you run the risk of getting old stuff, which sucks that they don't manage that at all. On a Sunday afternoon lines moved quickly and we were able to find seats. This is a cute cafe that offers plenty of savory items and lunches, plus drinks like matcha, cakes, pastries and cookies. There is also a bathroom! The women behind the counter were all nice and patient with my questions, they also kept the line moving and were quick. I had high hopes for the Alfajores as this is an Argentinian bakery but unfortunately the ones given to me were stale. The cookie was very hard. Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. Never had anything like that before. Not too sweet and very flaky. It has a ribbon of red on the outside which gives it a unique look. I would love to come back and try savory items. I'll continue to stick with the cakes and croissants for desert and make sure it's fresh!
