I was in town over the weekend of 9/19 for a concert. This hotel was a nice, centralized location within walking distance to the venue and other spots in town. The staff was very friendly and courteous, the room was clean, sleek, modern, and comfortable. I particularly liked the "fresh air" patio on the 3rd floor to have my complimentary morning cup of coffee. It was the weekend, so the lobby bar was hopping but not anything to warrant a noise complaint. For 3 nights, it was an affordable, cozy, convenient stay and I hope to return here again soon. read more

We stayed multiple days & this was one of the most unacceptable hotel experiences we've had. Our room had a constant wet, musty smell and visible mold on the shower walls, which is concerning, especially when staying with a child. Noise was a major and unresolved issue. The walls and ceilings are extremely thin, and we experienced loud music and heavy stomping from the room above us for hours. Quiet hours begin at 11 pm, yet the noise continued well past 2:30 am. Despite telling the front desk, no effective action was taken. We were told they could "go talk to them" and were offered earplugs as a solution, which is not appropriate when traveling with a child. The lack of enforcement and poor soundproofing, made it impossible to rest. This level of inaction is unacceptable, and we would not stay here again. Loved it! I highly recommend asking for a corner room. A lot of people we were with who got rooms by the elevator / with folks on both sides complained about the noise but we lucked out on the corner room on the 4th floor. It looked a little bigger than the other rooms too! I loved the lobby and the ability to text the front desk whenever we needed anything. Hôtel is very cute , trendy and thoughtfully designed. Except for one important part... club noise kept thumping till 1-2 am. Also rooms are not soundproofed and you can hear everything from adjacent rooms. Beds are incredibly comfortable and fresh coffee from the lobby is nice. Stayed here for a business trip and it was great! Rooms were spacious, clean, and ready before check-in. I know there were some comments about staff being slow, but that's just the Portland vibe in my opinion. Staff were VERY friendly and helpful when I needed them. Centrally located to most things. It's 2am in the morning and between the noise in the hallway to the garbage truck outside to the music coming from across the street, I'm feeling like the construction of the hotel lacks thoughtfulness . For example, the noise from the hallway is coming because the hotel room door has a gap between the door and the floor. You can pretty much hear people speaking at normal volumn clearly. You can also hear your neighbors next door. The windows the hotel advertises for guests to see views of Portland, though large, let's in all the streets sounds. Not sure how the hotel could fix these things, but thought travelers should be aware of what is in store for them. This hotel is noisy and it'll be hard to get any good sleep. read more

Jupiter Hotel has gotten fancy! I first stayed at the Jupiter a long, long time ago. Maybe 2008? I got a home here on hotwire (back when it was actually good) for about 80 bucks and...it was amazing, everything we were looking for! Jupiter Next is a new space (I think the OG Jupiter Hotel still exists?) located above the extremely-trendy "Hey Love" (which feels much more like a "downtown bar" for better or worse). Anyway, the rooms here are incredible. The design is cutting edge...almost too cutting edge. This is the type of hotel that tries to reimagine the design of...a bathroom? The bathroom here is pretty much a plexiglass corner in the main room. Does it look cool? Hell yeah! Is it awkward because there is no fan and it highlights any and all "bathroom noises"? Also, hell yeah! We had a delightful city view and got to wake up to the sunrise glow on Portland. I'll definitely be back. There aren't many places to stay in this part of town (inner SE) without getting into obnoxiously, hidden-fee-laden Air BnBs. read more

For our last two nights in Portland, we stayed at the Jupiter NEXT hotel, the new addition to the Jupiter Hotel across the street, which just opened up last month (it's so new that they are still renovating the bar). The hotel is quite nice with a funky decor, excellent WiFi (it connected very easily and not once did I ever have to log in again during our stay), large rooms with a comfortable bed and proper pillows (I hate it when you only get one small, flat pillow!), and quiet (although that could change once the bar opens up). However, there is one huge flaw: the bathroom. The sink is outside the toilet/shower area, which is fine. However, the walls around the shower/toilet area are made of frosted glass* which is quite see-through depending on the lighting, and worst of all, the sliding door to the shower/toilet area doesn't close all the way and there's a gap of an inch or so, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOILET, giving you absolutely no privacy. There were a few other minor irritations as well: while there was air conditioning, it didn't cool the room at all during the night (yet it was freezing during the day), and I didn't sleep very well both nights because I was too warm. And to top it off, the duvet was goose down, which I dislike, because goose down is too warm for me. (Even with the air conditioner "on" and sleeping without the duvet, while naked, I was sweating.) Also, most of the staff, while not rude, weren't very friendly (although there were a couple of friendly employees working the day we checked out), and the first morning we were there, the complimentary pastries ran out HOURS before the 11am cut off, and the attitude of the employee working was pretty off-putting. While I don't regret staying at Jupiter NEXT, I'd hesitate to stay there again because it's quite expensive (I was fortunate to get the government employee discount) and I prefer to poop in private. But if you are rich and don't need privacy while using the bathroom, Jupiter NEXT is great. There's potential for Jupiter NEXT to be a four, or even five star, hotel, but due to an uncomfortably warm room at night and lack of privacy when using the bathroom, I can't give it more than three stars, and that's being generous. *The employee who checked us out said that the new, modern look for hotels is to use frosted glass for bathroom walls. It's a mid-tier hotel priced as if it were a high-end luxury hotel. Room was just okay. It was clean and everything looked nice, but that's to be expected, no? There was a $15 charge to park in their street lot, which I wasnt thrilled with, but I paid, but all of the spots were taken! The person at the desk said they have a hard time towing, and other people end up parking there. Doesn't make sense to me, and they did refund the $15. The staff seemed indifferent and again, if this is supposed to be a better hotel (based on the price), I'd expect better service. Lastly the bed was really mushy , there's no microwave, no breakfast and there is no free coffee in the room. You're supposed to take a mug downstairs and ask for a free cup of coffee in the morning. Could I have loved this two night stay even more? Only if it was longer. This is a new boutique hotel and they absolutely nailed everything from customer service to decor (public spaces and rooms), amenities, and location. Check in was seamless and I was thrilled to have a room available earlier in the day so we could freshen up after a cross country flight. The lobby is breathtakingly beautiful with its hanging fireplace, inviting seating areas, stylish decor, and lots of greenery. The room itself was quiet and adjacent to a lovely 5th floor terrace which was wonderful for morning coffee. I also LOVED that there wasn't a crappy wasteful Keurig in the room, the hotel provided mugs that you brought to the lobby each morning to fill with your coffee. They had a full espresso bar (for a fee) available but I didn't take advantage of that. Don't sleep on Hey, Love, the restaurant that adjoins the hotel lobby - it's phenomenal but that merits a completely separate review. read more

I loved this hotel. It was hipster and very clean. The artwork was very interesting. The shower was a frosted-glass enclosure. The bed was superb and induced a restful sleep. The view of Portland was so pretty. It included new buildings being built, original old buildings, the colorful green mountains, and the hospital at the top of the hill. The lobby has a small gift shop with Jupiter labeled items, a bar, and a snack area. read more

Cute boutique hotel. The design of the hotel & the room is simple yet modern with minimalist lines & mute colors (light yellow, beige, tan, brown). The design of the room feels European where the sink is outside of the shower & toilet. The bed was comfortable for me as I prefer firmer beds. The negatives are: my room was on Burnside St. where there's a nightclub across the street. The music was loud and it did make sleeping difficult. Thankfully they close at 1 am. Second, the pillows were fluffy but then would go flat shortly after laying on them. I'm a side sleeper thus I prefer firmer pillows. I had to stack 2 of them together which then made it too high. But overall, I highly recommend this hotel. I can't comment on parking costs since I didn't have a car, but I can see how having to pay for street parking is annoying. read more

What a killer space! I love what they've done with the place. The first floor is home to new Portland bar/restaurant Hey Love. It's a fairly big space with plenty of room. The bar being separate from the restaurant makes it easy to separate the vibes. The drinks they offer are all classics: margaritas, sazeracs, old fashioneds and the link. The liquor selection is vast, though, so you could order whatever. The staircase leads to the second floor ballroom, a large and open room with a nice patio for the summer months. I love that there's a comfy waiting room outside the ballroom so that guests for events don't need to line up and wait outside. I never saw any of the rooms in the hotel, but if they're as snazzy as the rest of the place, I'm sure I'd like it. read more

Possibly the first one to sleep in our beds, a friend and I stayed at Jupiter NEXT on their second night open. They're still working on the cafe and lobby and some of the rooms. We were supposed to have a room with two beds but they didn't have one ready so we got two adjacent rooms instead, which worked out perfectly. Several things I like about this place: 1) It's in a cool up-and-coming formerly industrial neighborhood, centrally located to much of Portland. 2) It's taller than most buildings in the area so it has amazing views of the city and mountains. 3) It's much quieter than it's sister, Jupiter Hotel, which shares a courtyard with Doug Fir lounge, open late. The decor is fun, fresh and modern with some traditional touches. I love the bathroom enclosed in thick glass, the big vanity mirror and lighting and the little open closet for clothes. It's a little unconventional having the sink area, toiletries and all, be the first thing you see when you come in the room though. Also not sure about the chalkboard doors -- we came back and someone had scrawled "No one here" on my door. Gotta say that kind of creeped me out. Several other doors had penises drawn on them, I think there may have been a bachelor party or something at the hotel. The beds are comfortable, which is always good but I was woken up around 8am the first morning by the dinging of the elevator. I grumbled that there wasn't any coffee in my room so I got dressed and went downstairs and was surprised to find a table of coffee and delicious scones! The second night I was woken up at 2am by loud music next door. I called the front desk and they took care of it. Overall, I would say this is a bit of a party hotel. The lobby is cold and austere but the staff is friendly and helpful. read more

Moral of the story here: they tried. It's got some nice design elements like the large windows and accent pieces. Bed is comfortable. Everything feels a bit cheap for the cost of the room though. Do Appreciate they are dog friendly! For anyone sensitive to noise, the walls are paper thin, you can hear the conversations of all your neighbors and anyone in the hall as if they are standing by your bed. If you're planning to stay in and work Or rest during the day, it's tough to think over the constant vacuuming in the halls. read more

We had the best time at our recent stay!! The hotel is beautiful, and very clean and crisp. The bed was super comfy, and they even have DVD's to watch. Plenty of food and fun nearby, and secure garage parking and a very secure key card access entry. Staff was super friendly and very helpful! Definitely will be back!! Ok...so we had a great time at this hotel and would return on a later trip to Portland. The concept and decorations are great....whimsical, urban and cozy. The neighborhood is interesting and in the thick of things. The attached restaurant Hey Love has solid food and a delightful cocktail program. My husband is in love with the covered outdoor porch on the 5th floor which is a great spot for a chill glass of wine with a view. It is a wonderful place to return to at the end of a fun day. The Superette is great for breakfast...and COFFEE. That said, there is some room for improvement. Valet is offered but not bell service. (To be fair bell service is not advertised, etc). There needs to be a combo valet/ bell service and here's why. The lobby is on multiple levels with a ramp and navigating your own cart through unfamiliar terrain (especially w/ a three year old in tow) is a nuisance. (Alternately, they could switch valet to the other street and enter right by the reception desk...but you don't get the restaurant vibe and the valet may be doing restaurant valet too..don't know). I'd be fine with a tack on charge for it but it was ridiculous, especially since the entrance to the lobby which shares space with the bar and Hey Love is dark at night. We arrived after dark and it was a little disorienting. I expected the cart to go careening into the desk. The restaurant, Hey Love, will do carry out but you can't call it in. Once you go down and place the order they will take it to the front desk and bring it up. Why not have a phone/online order system and menu in the rooms? It's silly and impractical. The front desk staff was consistently friendly and helpful but there needs to be a better system. The "Hey Roxy" automated system works ok for general information gathering but fails miserably when you need to contact or interact with a human. We placed a valet order three times on different days and it was obvious that the valet had not receive the summons. I doubt that this was the valet's fault. On my first night I tried to call the front desk with it and the poor staffer had to come up to the 5th floor...I needed a 20 second chat....it was embarrassing. The valets were generally friendly and helpful...that said, again, need a combo valet/bell system where they help with bags consistently and at least get you to the desk. Ok, the rooms have a great, large window that gives you great views of Portland. The only thing I had a big problem with was the shower. If you shower with soap it gets very, very slippery. There needs to be some sort of antiskid treatment. Also, a more minor issue is that there are no drawers. A cube stack would be a nice way to offer some clothes storage and not wreck the décor...also, add more clothes hangers in the room & towel hangers in bathroom. Housekeeping service needs some work. The room was not really refreshed to my liking...the bed was made and towels were removed/dropped off but large crumbs on the floor needed to be swept/vacummed (45 seconds of work here) and spilled food was left on the counters (again a quick wipe). Needed to be wiped down...an easy fix and standard in a hotel. Also, we were told to leave dirty silverware from the restaurant in the room and that housekeeping would return it...it stayed for days. And finally, the coffee mugs....we stayed three nights and for two nights I took a mug downstairs had it filled and left it at the Suprette with the other soiled dishes from our meals. The mugs were not replaced. If I was supposed to cart it back upstairs and wash it myself then dish soap should have been included in the room. Things with milk products tend to need to be washed. Loaner, branded reusable water bottles would be a nice touch...at least have them available for purchase in the lobby. Finally, IN ROOM RECYCLING needs to be offered!!!!! read more

Great location and the space looks cool but the actual experience of staying in this building falls way short of feeling like a proper hotel. The walls are paper thin, and was woken up at 920am today by an insanely loud housekeeper that sounded like they were standing over my bed opening up garbage bags. Definitely a bummer when I had to pay $25 for a late checkout so I could try to get some sleep before driving 7 hours. The ac unit also made a loud clicking noise all night that was a GREAT precursor to the vacuum cleaner symphony/housekeeper's speaker phone conversation that shattered my sleep at an unacceptably early hour. Also it should be noted that this hotel doesnt have blackout curtains, and ewith the shades down it is still bright enough to comfortably read a book. ***Also, regarding the "acoustical treatment between the walls"... I had security called on me twice by the room sharing a wall with my bed, while talking to my girlfriend in bed before going to sleep. The security guard basically apologized both times for having to bother us and acknowledged that we were just speaking at a normal conversation volume.... For what that's worth regarding walk thinness. read more

Hotel was clean and everything was very functional. Staff was super great. Both with check-in and valet. The knock off was due to smoking on the property. On the 6th and I think 5th floors is an outdoor area in which they advertise as a perk. It's a nice area but they have Ash trays and people smoke out there. Non smokers can't enjoy this and the cigarette smoke just wafts into the building. It's gross. Now if it was weed smoke that would be different. :) read more

We got married here and did the full 2nd floor buyout and it was WORTH EVERY PENNY. The Jupiter staff was great and so accommodating to everything leading up to our big day and even after. They were really good at communicating and answering all my questions. It was so easy to work with them. Our wedding was perfect and I do it there all over again. Now about our stay. It was wonderful. We had so many out of town family members and friends who also commented how great of a hotel it was. It was in a great location, not too busy of an area but lots nearby to eat/drink/visit all within walking distance. The area seemed very safe too. The rooms were clean and very well kept. This hotel is great, the food at Hey Love was also awesome. The feel and overall "vibes" of this place is great and the staff is so friendly. All our family and friends LOVED this place and we had so much fun celebrating here! read more

The hotel itself is great. Hip, modern, stylish. Customer service was great. Rooms are well appointed, except for the weird bathrooms. Weird because they have frosted glass walls and the door doesn't shut all the way so it leaves you feeling like the bathroom is IN the room with little privacy. You can't turn the light on in the bathroom at night or you'll fully light (thus awaken) the whole room. FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO SLEEP: Make sure you request a QUIET SIDE room. The street side rooms face a dance club. Music is so loud it keeps you awake until the club closes. This wouldn't be so bad if the Jupiter didn't sell NEXT as their "quiet" hotel. Great coffee in the morning and if you're bathroom shy due to lack of privacy the lobby has plenty. read more

I stayed at Jupiter NEXT for our annual Project Healthy Body Retreat (4 nights). I was impressed by the graciousness of staff at all levels, cleanliness of the spaces, and food available onsite. The conference space on the second floor is laid out well and has an outdoor patio available for use as well. The spaces throughout the hotel are filled with light from the oversized windows, which helps to make the Portland rain we experienced a pleasurable sight to behold. There are lots of places within walking distance too. If you're looking for a spot to feel secure and comfortable, I say visit this place. read more

Stayed here 3 nights from Sat-Tues. Would I stay here again? Yes. I love more than I dislike. Clean, modern, new, cool, nice service, hey love on the lobby floor, all good stuff. Would I like more privacy in the bathroom? Sure, but it's also kinda cool to see outside while you're in there, while anyone not in there can only see a silhouette. Walls are thin, yes. I hear people in the room next door and walking down the hallway more than I'd like. But keep the fan on and wear earplugs and use a white noise app and problem solved. Safe and convenient location. Rentable bikes right outside. Plenty of food and drink options. All in all I'm very happy to have stayed here and I'll be buying a t-shirt read more

Second time staying here and this time did the suite. Honestly it's bare bones. I have four big issues 1) rooms are incredibly small even in the suite (thanks for the nice long hallway and nothing else). 2) no privacy for the bathroom. Want a door that closes fully or a fan to cover the sound... too bad. 3) even with ear plugs over 3 floors up at 1am I can still hear the club or rented out second floor. Good luck sleeping as a normal guest god knows when I will tonight. 4) uncomfortable bed and flat pillows. I have no clue how many times I woke up all the nights I've stayed here. Maybe we'll stay here again for convenience of the location but nothing else. Restaurant and second floor guests for parties are incredibly awkward to run in to. Got to hear a lovely conversation about the multiple sizes of magnums today and dealt with incredibly drunk ppl before 5pm. Two starts because at least it's clean and the staff is nice. read more

Staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable about hotel & Portland. Clean spaces everywhere (especially covid clean) and the hotel is such a great vibe & so aesthetically pleasing!! Great location. Dog friendly, we brought our two basenji All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. The valet service was a great feature as well, Lance really helped us out. The coffee downstairs is amazing and it was nice to have the Doug Fir next door and Hey Love downstairs. The room was clean and a nice view. We were on the 5th floor. My only complaint would be the loud club across the street, at least on the weekend it was very noisy between 10 and 2. This is not really the hotels fault and if your out and about at that hour then it really doesn't matter. All In all a great experience and a good way to spend a weekend in Portland. Brian at the front desk of Jupiter Next completely saved our trip. Had it not been for him, I would be writing a very different review. I booked out room at The Jupiter through a 3rd party site (which wasn't that smart of me, admittedly). When we got here, what we got was NOT what was advertised. This being our first vacation in 5 years, and back to my homeland no less, I really wanted it to be a rad trip. If we had to stay in the TINY room that was not what I thought I was booking, it would've been a total bust. After talking to Brian and explaining the situation, he put us in a room in the Jupiter Next. The room is amazing, and the hotel is beautiful. Everything is brand new and high tech (the phone in our room is just a box named Roxy that helps you). I am digging the Banksy art on the wall of our hallway. Everything is perfect.
