I booked this place through Airbnb, and I was honestly impressed with almost every aspect of my stay. The first thing that stood out was how friendly and welcoming the staff at reception were. I stayed here for five days, and every interaction I had with them was pleasant.The fitness center was another pleasant surprise. It's much larger than I expected and has plenty of equipment for a solid workout, along with towels, which was a nice touch. The rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds were incredibly comfortable, I slept like a baby every night. They also had both heating and air conditioning, and thankfully, everything worked perfectly! The room had a couch and a table as well, making it a comfortable place to relax after a long day. One feature I really appreciated was the 24-hour café in the lobby. The lounge area is also quite spacious, making it a nice spot to hang out or get a little work done. They also provide a shared refrigerator and microwave, which was very convenient during my stay. The location wasn't too bad as it's within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and bars, and there is paid street parking available right outside.The only thing I think could be improved is the shared microwave. It was quite dirty throughout my stay and could definitely be cleaned more frequently or even replaced as it would make the experience much more pleasant. I really enjoyed my stay here and would happily stay again on a future trip. read more

Do yourself a favor and stay a few blocks closer to the Pearl District. This hotel is convenient but it's on the edge of Chinatown. We saw someone injecting drugs in the park across the street from the hotel on our first night here. During our five night stay, house keeping came once to replace our towels and clean our room. We were told they were "busy" and only cleaning rooms for new check in's. Wouldn't book again for the price and lack of amenities. Staff unhelpful. read more

This "lovely" hotel allegedly threw away my (expensive) Korean Face Wash LESS THAN 24hrs after checkout. Honestly, extremely upsetting that they wouldn't be more careful when evaluating a room after checkout, to make sure nothing was left behind. Calling them wasn't helpful. I would not recommend or return. read more

Do not stay in this hotel if you need to park overnight. Your vehicle will get broken into and anything valuable stolen. And the staff is totally unhelpful. I'd even say clueless. Other than that it's a great property. read more

Very clean and quaint, modern hotel. Wasn't in my ideal location which is Pearl District but not the nicest part of Pearl but it worked. Rooms are clean, view not the best (a rooftop) and staff was great. Loved the coffee shop next to the lobby. Finding parking on the street isn't ideal but the lot was fine. I saw another review where the car got broken in to. Never leave things in your car to give someone a reason to break in. That's for every city. read more

The hotel isn't in the best neighborhood. They have to buzz you into the lobby. Even one of the Lift drivers commented about neighborhood being overrun with homeless. The room seemed as cold as a refrigerator, 62°. Which in an odd way was helpful. Because, there was no refrigerator in the room. It took 5 hours to get the room temp up to 70°. Even after checking with the desk there was nothing to be done to make the room warmer. As a matter of fact. There were none of the typical room staples one would expect, coffee, tea, microwave, Etc. The windows in the room were filthy. However, the room and all public areas of the hotel were very clean. The staff was courteous. The Cafe was nothing but an underwhelming Bagel/Coffee shop. Then for an odd reason the after-tax rack rate finalized at a slightly higher price than the reservation price. No one was able to explain this or willing to adjust the price. Next time we stay in Portland. we will hopefully find a more agreeable $200 room, in a better location. read more

It has great potential - the rooms are lovely - but they are woefully understaffed and are set on nickel and diming the guests for standard amenities ( no cups/ glasses in the rooms and a charge of a dollar for a cup in the lobby to fill with water / no coffee facilities in rooms or free coffee in the lobby). The complimentary wine/beer on check in is nonexistent. I wonder if the current owners are running out of money and looking to sell. I would consider staying again if it changed hands. read more

The Harlow is a terrific boutique hotel. More than 100 years-old, the property has all of the harm of its first years, but it's been cleaned-up and modernized. The rooms are spacious enough and well-appointed, everything is kept spotless (rooms, lobby, common areas), and the staff couldn't have been any better. In particular, Jamie -- front desk -- went out of her way to help us have a great stay. The only downsides to the Harlow Hotel are: 1.) Parking...you have to find somewhere on the street nearby, which is complicated by... 2.) The sketchy location of the hotel. Just around the corner is a park that was full of people publicly using drugs, asleep or passed-out on the lawn area, or seemingly under the influence (i.e. acting out). In fact, during our first walk through the area -- on our way to dinner -- we bumped into a dealer offering needles, meth pipes and various packets of drugs to eager buyers. The significant number of people aimlessly wandering near the property, the large amounts of broken glass up and down the streets, and the people openly using is unsettling. Don't get me wrong -- the Harlow is a fantastic hotel and the staff is top-notch, but people should be aware that the "challenges" that continue to confront Portland bump up against this great place. read more

My gf and I stayed at the Harlow back in March to celebrate my bday and the staff went out of their way to accommodate a birthday surprise in the room. Seen in picture. a special shout out to Naomi for making our stay so special. And to the rest of the staff, everyone was so kind. THANK YOU ALL! Now let's talk about the room, such a beautiful room! Very clean, super comfy beds, they provide comfy robes and slippers, it's close to union station, Voodoo doughnuts, the portland sign, Dante's, cherry blossom park, lots of local restaurants. Also has a gym with the latest equipment. The lobby was beautiful, there's also a Cafe downstairs. We didn't want to leave. We will definitely be staying at The Harlow again for our future Portland trips. Thanks again!!! read more

While there is no parking garage, street parking is easy to find and the hotel even has a QR code at the check-in desk with a map of nearby parking garages. You're greeted with a complimentary wine, beer, or coffee at their on-site cafe upon check-in. Mark was exceptionally attentive, even recommending several dining options. When in town for a wedding over Memorial Day weekend, we experienced the most unprofessional, rude, and crass employee(s) when we were staying at The Harlow. My husband had arrived in Portland a few hours before I did and went to check into the hotel. When he buzzed in at 8:50pm on May 23, an employee cracked the door open (with bloodshot eyes) and asked what he wanted. He was standing next to a VooDoo donut delivery person and both stated their purpose for being there, my husband explaining he was there to check in. The employee replied, "Check in was at 4pm." My husband said, "Right, that's when it starts but I was driving and I'm here now to check in." She was adamant and said, "Check in is at 4." My husband then checked his watch and said, "Well it's 8:50pm and I'm here to check in." She then said, "Well you should've been here at 4pm because that's when check in is." Perplexed, my husband then asked what he was supposed to do because we had booked the night at that hotel and weren't being allowed to check in. She combatively said, "I don't know your life!!" and slammed the door in his face. The donut delivery watched the entire event, jaw dropped, and said to my husband, "What the fuck is she on???" My husband is non confrontational and went back to our car where he tried to figure out what he was going to do. As far as we knew, we were the first party to arrive for the wedding and I was currently on a plane with 5 other individuals that would also need to check in when we landed. My husband had to get in touch with me, his pregnant wife, mid-flight, and explain that we didn't have a place to stay. Mid-flight, I resent all confirmation that we had the hotel booked for that night along with check in instructions, none of which stated that check in needed to be exactly at 4pm nor was there a "window" of when check in would be. He went back with a friend to try and check in for the second time and noticed the voodoo donuts had been delivered and were being eaten by hotel staff. A different employee opened the door and let them come in once they said they were here to check in. She apologized and said, "She's just having a bad day, her dog got out." My husband replied, "That sucks but you were also standing at the desk and heard/watched the whole thing happen. Why didn't you do anything?" She replied, "Oh I wasn't on the clock yet." This was appalling. We never made a fuss or an issue past the initial event, but all hotel staff knew us as "room 308" because every employee had gossiped about the occurrence without actually talking to us about the issue or apologizing for the horrible interaction. When I initially reported the incident to front desk staff, I tried to give detail but never got to explain what happened and instead was cut off with, "Oh we already know, that's just that employee." When I tried to explain what happened, she continued to cut me off and tell me they were already aware but didn't acknowledge that anything was to be done or apologize in any way because the manager was on vacation. Coincidentally, the bride and groom walked in to the lobby at that moment to address the issue but when I informed them that I put in a request to speak to management, the front desk receptionist finally began to be empathetic, called me back over to the desk, and that's when she bothered to ask what my name was or what room number I was in. It was abundantly clear that the issue was going to be swept under the rug if she hadn't heard me talking about it to others. The interaction was very dismissive and I simply requested that I needed to report the issue to management. I have requested to speak to management three separate times and yet, two weeks later, have had total silence. Our side of the story was never asked about, the issue was never addressed or resolved, and no effort has been made to remediate the problem. In addition to our own experience and everything I explained above, we also learned that another hotel patron, who was also attending the same wedding we were, was actually drinking alcohol with the original employee for a couple of hours Thursday night while the employee was on shift. He shared that she was very drunk and believes this is why she acted the way she did towards my husband. We stayed at the Harlow at the recommendation of the bride and groom who listed the hotel on their wedding website as a verified, safe, and accommodating option. They are absolutely appalled and furious that a hotel they recommended would treat their guests in such a way. It should go without saying but I'll say it anyway. This behavior of all employees is unacceptable, unprofessional, and a horrible reflection of the establishment they are running. We will not be returning to The Harlow Hotel and will be recommending every person we know that they should stay elsewhere when visiting Portland. read more

My wife and I got married a few blocks away and our venue didn't have a location to get ready, so we were looking for a hotel close-by that could serve that purpose. Harlow Hotel popped up when I was searching, since it looked like the rooms had good natural light for hair and make-up and the art deco aesthetic matched the theme of our wedding. We are SO glad we found this spot, they added so much joy to our wedding weekend and we cannot recommend them enough! We booked the two executive suites as our getting ready space and set up a hotel block for our guests, then their team mentioned that they had a space where we could host a rehearsal dinner if needed. We decided to go that route since we were getting ready there anyways, but Noemi and Armando went above and beyond to make the whole weekend special. We were able to arrange custom cocktails for our party, created by one of the hotel bartenders (I don't remember her name but we're so grateful to her). Each of our guests staying at the Harlow got a little menu with those custom cocktails, such a cute touch and a fun keepsake from the wedding. Our guests all commented on how lovely the whole team was, they worked their tails off and did it with a smile! A very sweet and genuine crew and we absolutely adore them. The hotel also had their back patio decorated and available to us (it wasn't available when we first looked at the hotel), and it was so beautiful that we decided to do our first look out there. When we left at the end of the weekend, Noemi gifted us a Christmas ornament on behalf of the Harlow to commemorate the event. I don't think I even scratched the surface of everything they did for us but suffice it to say they far exceeded our expectations. Planning a wedding is stressful but they made things as fun as possible, while offering creative touches that we never would have thought of! We would highly recommend them as an event space, a place to get ready for your wedding, or just a spot to stay downtown.
