He's a beautiful bird. But he is shy. It's taking patience to develop a friendship. I let him out of the cage. That's helping. He's sitting on my lap

Not sure what the negativity is for, we have had nothing but stellar experiences with Rick and Jurassic Pets. We found the shop on a trip to Santa Fe a couple of years ago and now make it a point to go in every time we visit. The shop is full of various animals, all of which seem be very well taken care of. Rick is very knowledgeable and helpful and interacts with each customer while they visit his shop. Definitely worth a trip to check it out!

The sad living conditions of the ferrets. They have no space to play or exercise.

The negative reply blew up into an exchange wherein I was ultimately berated by an intrusive staffer saying that cash paying customers lose them money and, by asking for that penny, I was asking for a discount. Finishing with a supercilious smirk, she said SHE'd give me the penny. It's ok, I replied. I won't be back. Seriously. They clearly don't need the $3,000+ annually I've been dropping in there for the past several years. Perhaps they need to weed out customers? I'll be more than happy to oblige.

I have frequented this store for 20+ years, not because it was close to my home but because of the knowledgeable and polite people who worked there. The current workforce appears to have been hired simply because they have a pulse. They certainly DO NOT HAVE any knowledge when it comes to bird species in/around Santa Fe or their feeding preferences. They stand behind the cash register awaiting you arrival and money and appear to be unaffected or concerned about your needs. I've taken the time this weekend to research other businesses in Santa Fe for my seed purchases and discovered a couple of unlikely and unexpected businesses (including big box stores) with a great selection of wild bird seed at prices considerably lower than WBU, sometimes 50% less. Suggest you spend some time shopping around as I have. Stores with high prices and minimum wage employees lacking knowledge of their inventory and an unwillingness to assist me is not where I want to spend my money. Period.

Today, knowing there was an adoption event there, my daughter asked me to go because we are thinking about getting another dog. I needed to use the bathroom, but, as we know, PetSmart thinks it is a big deal to have a bathroom there. It is locked, and we have to find an employee to open the door. But they get upset when someone needs to use their bathroom because it means they have to stop what they are doing - and they don't hide their feelings. So, there was an employee (it was a big Hispanic lady) at the cat enclosure helping two ladies. She asked me to wait a second, but after talking to the ladies, she told them she was going to the register to get their change. I asked if she could open the bathroom before doing it, but she refused. The bathroom was only a few steps away; it would take about 10 seconds total, but since she was doing me this enormous favor, she took her sweet time coming back and took another sweet time talking to the ladies who had to remind her I needed to use the bathroom (they noticed she was making me wait on purpose). That employee was extremely rude. The way she talked to me and acted was really disappointing and mean. She was nice to the ladies, but since I have an accent, I didn't get the same treatment. Racism and discrimination are consequences of ignorance and poor training at work.

Prior to several weeks ago, the last I was here was around the time the pandemic started. I was there to get some straw bales for the garden. Finally used them all up and went back the other day to get just one bale to use for padding to store apples and various bulbs for the winter. The young woman behind the counter was very helpful and pleasant explaining the options and what was available. So I made my purchase and went to the storage area to pick up the bale. The bale that was pulled for me was about 1/3 damp/wet and not appropriate for the intended use. I asked the young man for another that was right there and he said the was for another order and he had to load up the flatbed with it and told me to move my car. I did so. I cleared some space for the bale and he drove off. I waited. There were no other bales that were dry. Most bales were stacked about 20-30 feet high and not accessible. He returned about 10-15 minutes later. Parked his vehicle, jumped out and grabbed his walkie talkie as he got out and made a call and walked away. Never acknoweldged I was still there. Never asked if he could help. Looked at me while he was starting to talk and walked off to the main building. I waited a few minutes. Never came back. I went in to the main building to ask for my money back. The entire staff was engaged in cornering a squirrel that had gotten in to the building. Finally another fellow (older. the owner?) asked if I needed help. I asked for my money back. He asked if there was a problem and I explained the above. Whereupon the young man asked if I had a problem with him. When I said that I did, he became belligerent and verbally abusive. He told me that I could and should have taken another bale. When I pointed out that they all were wet and that the dry ones required machinery to get down, he told me that I should have told him. Like, when? When he was driving away? When he was on the phone and walking away? He told me that I should have come back and asked for a refund. Hell, I wanted a dry bale, not the refund. And somehow I was supposed to know all of this in the moment without any offer of help or curiosity of what I was still there leaning against my car when he returned. It deteriorated from there with him seeming to suggest that he was going to fight/hit me right there in the main building. Unbelievable! I got my refund. I left and told them I would never be back and that I would let others know of my experience. Consider yourselves informed.
