I avoid going to PetSmart, although I have two dogs and would like to buy there, but the thing is, the associates are rude. Today, knowing there was an adoption event there, my daughter asked me to go because we are thinking about getting another dog. I needed to use the bathroom, but, as we know, PetSmart thinks it is a big deal to have a bathroom there. It is locked, and we have to find an employee to open the door. But they get upset when someone needs to use their bathroom because it means they have to stop what they are doing - and they don't hide their feelings. So, there was an employee (it was a big Hispanic lady) at the cat enclosure helping two ladies. She asked me to wait a second, but after talking to the ladies, she told them she was going to the register to get their change. I asked if she could open the bathroom before doing it, but she refused. The bathroom was only a few steps away; it would take about 10 seconds total, but since she was doing me this enormous favor, she took her sweet time coming back and took another sweet time talking to the ladies who had to remind her I needed to use the bathroom (they noticed she was making me wait on purpose). That employee was extremely rude. The way she talked to me and acted was really disappointing and mean. She was nice to the ladies, but since I have an accent, I didn't get the same treatment. Racism and discrimination are consequences of ignorance and poor training at work. read more

Issue#1: I waited over 15 minutes for someone to answer my buzzer at the front desk. Issue#2: it to to 45 minutes to drop off my dog Issue #3: the groomer was obviously sick. She told me she was and that I needed to give her extra time. At this point I should have taken my dog and left. Issue #4: I asked how they would contact me to let me know my dog was ready, she said text. SHE DID NOT TEXT ME. She emailed me. Which caused all sorts of trouble in my schedule. When I called (waited 15 min for someone to answer the phone) they said he had been ready an hour and I had to pick him up right away. It put me in a huge bind. It they would have text me, like they said they would I wouldn't be in that predicament. Issue #5: she told me if she was going to have to shave him, she would call me first. SHE DID NOT! She shaved him all the way down. Issue #6: HE DID NOT NEED TO BE SHAVED! HE WAS NOT MATTED! I was wash my dog regularly and know he just needed to be brushed. Issue #7: She was extremely unfriendly and I had to spray my dog down with sanitizer after. I do not recommend Petsmart for grooming. read more

Incompetent/I don't care about the customer staff! Your web site said you take walk in's for nail trimming. The "800 appointment desk" said you were available to do this until 4 pm. I got there on Aug 28 with my dog at 10:30 am to be told that no one was there to do this that day. The two employees behind the grooming counter were so unapologetic and with a nonchalalant attitude. And as a previous review states....too many hoops to jump through, especially with an unhelpful national appointments desk? Why can't we call local? Took my cat on a scheduled appointment. As soon as the groomer came to the door, she was rude and continued as we walked to the pet area, she continued unprofessionally, rudely telling me to take the carrier off the desk and still schooling me about being 6 minutes late. I told her there are other options in Santa Fe if she didn't care to do my cat. She asked me if I was having an attitude and said I could go somewhere else. She continued asking "do you want me to do your cat or not" while other customers were listening. The younger female assistant with a bandana, looking quite embarrassed, will probably side with her, since she was showing dominance and intimidation. The rude groomer took my cat to the back and came quickly to tell me she couldn't do my cat because she was too matted, she had some matts but not at all bad. Paid $185 for them to shave my dog - ears and all. I will admit that her legs were tangled but NOT matted (she has tight curly hair on her legs). I have ALWAYS been able to brush her out and have never once been told she was matted. I was charged an extra $20 for "extra brushing fee", another $20 for "dematting fee" and another $27 for the "deluxe pampering package" which we did not ask for. And why was I charged for "dematting" and "extra brushing" when she's completely shaved?? Theres literally nothing to brush now except for a small section at the end of her tail. I'm usually not one to complain about a grooming for my dog because I know her fur will grow back but $185 to just shave my dog with obviously zero effort as it was a complete hack job is unacceptable. read more

Just moved to Santa Fe and in need of a dog grooming services for my dog. I made an appt. online and since his nails needed trimming, I decided to go in as their site promotes walk-ins from 2-6 pm. Was met with the most inattentive groomer who said there was no one else available. That is reasonable but her demeanor was unacceptable and rude. Not impressed with the grooming salon at all. She did not seem like she had the patience or put in much effort. I got charged $10 because she said my dog kept sitting down on the table and didn't clip her nails. We've been going to PetSmart for 7 years now and this is our first time at this location. We've never had this issue with our last groomer. We only left because we just relocated so it could be nerves but when I was asking additional questions as to what exactly happened she seemed super rushed to get off the phone. Worst customer service and groomers in Santa Fe. My neighbor warned me not to use them because they cut off her dogs dew claw while shaving the dog which cost her lost of $$ at the emergency vets. I took my dogs in for a nail-trim previously and they did a decent job, but this time, a different groomer by the name of Audr** was so rude. She tried to find a reason to not trim their nails and argued with us about their medical records, which were on file and all she had to do was look them up from the previous visit. I walked out because I don't want a groomer trimming my dogs nails that obviously didn't want to do the job. I usually tip $20 but it was her loss. I will NEVER give this store my business. I don't have it in me to rate grooming at petsmart. Both of my dogs had appointments to be groomed. My terrier was first, initially it looked ok "not thrilled about the shortness", but his coat grows fast so I let it go. However, his behind was extremely irritated from them shaving too close and I ended up at the veterinarian hospital because he wasn't eating or pooping and he was coughing up foamy mucus as well. He got better after some needed meds and of course a shot. A few days later my shih-tzu was next to be groomed and I ended up at the veterinarian hospital again around midnight. Again her sensitive area was too closely shaved. Hospital waiting was approximately 6 hours so I decided to go to the a local vet in the morning. She had an infection on her woo-hoo so a shot of antibiotics was necessary as were pain medications. My heart hurt for both of them as i watched them both in pain because of grooming employees not caring about my dogs when i entrusted them to . Ended up with 2 grooming bills and 2 vet bills totaling over $900. I will not be taking them to petsmart again. read more

I took my Yorkie to get groomed and the girl was not friendly at all. She went on to tell me that there were notes that said my dog fussed to have his feet and face done and that if he acted up, they have grown real strict and wouldn't groom him. He was been going there for 9 years and no one has ever told me they had a problem with him. So I told her that and she said she was just telling me. She was rude so I got rude back. I told her I heard her because she kept arguing. I said just check him in and this would be the last time I take them there. She said she would work on my dog and called the manager. He said they do that for the dogs safety, but why didn't she explain that. She was extremely would and had no business being in the service industry. Her make was Valeria. I have taken my dog here frequently, however, this visit was not good. My dog is elderly, and the guy who cut his fur said my dog was difficult. Hes harmless, he gave him a bad cut and blamed my dog. It's a petsmart...not much else to it. They always have carts and you are greeted promptly when you enter. It's a pretty well managed store so, good stuff. The reason that this place is better than all the other plentiful (and they are plentiful) pet stores in Santa Fe, is because of the prices. They have the best in town. You can pamper your pet and still not break the bank, go to petco for that. I have two large dogs and two cats, and i'm able to take care of all of them for around $30 a month. Another nice feature is that they have the most varied aquarium selection in town, and they do take care of the fish, very well, there are almost never any floaters. They also have a massive selection of tanks and tank stands as well as live plants. Back when I had fish I went here all the time, and I was always happy with it. Again, best prices in town. It's also very clean and well lit. So don't worry too much about weather or not you'll catch something by shopping there. read more

My horrible experience at pet smart began last night when I went in for a return. Since I did not have a bag, I just went straight to the long line, 9 people long, snaked to the middle of the store, which had only 1 incompetent cashier. I watched as other people came in to grab one item, and then THROW it down in frustration. One guy, after THROWING down his dog treats, even went around the cashier booth, presumably to tell the incompetent to call someone else. Which never happened. There were other employees in the store, but just the one completely incompetent female cashier and a very long line. So after 17 minutes in line I finally reach ms. incompetent. And then, of course, it takes another 15 minutes for her to process the 2 items I wanted to return, but I had been very patient. Even joking with her a little, I asked, while incompetent was struggling to get the return processed, if I could just grab the one item I came for and use it as the exchange? The one item, near the front, that I DID NOT grab before getting into the long line, because my returns were NOT in a bag and I didn't want them to think I was shoplifting. So the incompetent was still processing my return, and I asked to go get the item, and she said NO, I WOULD HAVE TO GET BACK INTO THE LONG LINE FOR THE ONE PLASTIC TRAVEL FISH BOWL. The line was much longer than when I had come in, at least 10-12 people now reaching back past the middle. Anyway, it still took her another 5 minutes to get the return processed onto a gift card. I could've retrieved the item 10 times in the amount of time incompetent was still trying to figure out the refund, I guess she failed cashier school. It would've taken her 30 seconds or less to ring up my plastic fish bowl, but she threw out her power move and wanted me to get back into the long line for one plastic $5.99 fish bowl. Like I said, I already knew what I wanted, but didn't grab it because my returns were not in a bag. So I will NEVER go into this ridiculous store again, and that is so unfortunate, because I had just started grooming my little Maltese rescue there, last Wednesday, and I really liked that groomer, and was looking forward to having a great relationship with her for monthly grooms, and I will check back periodically if she has moved on to another place. But I will start over with that and will make the drive to PETCO, which is much nicer, CLEANER and they actually have a nice fish department and actually seem to care about the fish. petsmart is DIRTY and the bettas look half dead in gross dirty cups. DISGUSTING store. PETCO is laid out a lot better and better ongoing sales. Fish department is clean and looked well cared for. No attitude and more than one cashier and it wasn't that busy. Petsmart, one LAME cashier, dirty store and a long line. Good to know the differences now. I asked the cashier at PETCO if they would've done the same thing in my circumstance, and 1. They would've figured out how to process a return of two items in less than 15 minutes and 2. Would've let me grab the ONE item I had come for without making me get back into the covid line again. Good job PETCO at gaining a new fan! I was really amazed at how clean and open the store was compared to PetStupid. I will spend my gift card in El Paso and then be DONE with PetStupid in Santa Fe FOREVER. And the PETCO is little out of my way, but worth it! Thanks PETCO! read more

I went here to pick-up some flea & tick treatment that will be applied for free upon $6 purchase. I misread the ad online. It actually states that if you have the groomer do the application the $6 pays for itself, plus their groomers were not in at that time! I ended up buying a $16 bottle of VetMed flea treatment but the cashier Laurie was so awesome and helpful finding me a price better online for my dogfood! She made up for my trip and then some! She was very cool looking up in her own phone for me and beating the in-store price with PetSmart online! Kewl!! read more

Generally, the Santa Fe Petsmart does a good job. The store is clean and odor-free. Great seslection, etc. Today, though, the grooming salon was a big disappointment . Last visit, they did a great job on my Golden Retriever--everything was done right. Today the employee decided to give her a Furminator treatment WITHOUT my permission! We walk her a lot in 25o weather, and she needs her winter coat. Today it was thinned down like she was a 100% indoor dog. I think they should have a store policy that Furminator treatments are NOT given without the expressed permission of the owner. I hope they change their policy so that I can feel good about bringing her back. read more

I take my Sheltie to Dana at Petsmart for grooming. I have never had any problems, she is always patient with my loud and fussy dog. Dana listens to our question and requests and will follow through. Well it's petsmart. These are not groomers. They have clippers with a number on it that corresponds to the length of fur they will cut. I was told that if a #7 was used for the body #10 HAS to be used for the face. A few are good on some days but should are not fit to wait on the public. Had a problem and the"manager" of the "salon" she was very was rude, and told me that my dog might have urinary track infection because it was left in there for hours I was waiting for their call when my home phone number was on the paperwork. I didn't wait for any more explanations . The store manager informed me that they are really some separate business and not completely part of pet smart. Just a warning to anyone who loves their pet FIND ANOTHER PLACE! -- It's just not smart to take your grooming to petsmart read more

Worst Petsmart i've been to. I took my dog there (against my better judgement) and he hid under the couch for days after I picked him up... Acted shy and his whole personality changed after the treatment at Petsmart. If he didn't go back to normal after 3 days we'd be suing! What happened to cause that? Easy access off Zafarano and/or Rodeo Rd. Good parking. Automatic electric doors are a great touch. Dogs on leash OK. Shopping baskets just inside entry doors. Store is clean, neat and usually well stocked with pet supplies for almost anything you would keep as a pet. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They also offer grooming and some dog classes. I mainly shop for dogfood there or an occasional collar or food bowl. Checkout can be interesting given pet behavior differences but the staff is always on the ball and tries to get your purchase done and out the door efficiently...loading help may be available. read more

We've been taking our Pomeranian, Lucyfur, to Petsmart Santa Fe for almost four years and for the last 3 we've booked exclusively with Dana. She's an artist with a clipper, and has kept every appointment. Lucy arrives excited and leaves happy. We've never been disappointed with the grooming service and recommend Dana highly. I don't understand so many negative reviews of the store in general.....definitely not our experience. read more

Older male cashier with the white hair in a ponytail is about the rudest unhappiest man I have ever seen , I asked him a question requarding a product, and he acted like I was a huge inconvienace to him . Took in our chaweenie puppy (his first time in a pet store) we were really excited. And everyone was so rude. No one offered us help. Not even a greet when we walked in. I mean if your gonna work in a pet store or customer service in general you should be friendly. I think giving a 1 is giving too much. I had my pet groomed there today, a small 8 1/2 pound Maltese. They could only trim her body forgot to do the head and face, did not do the nails. I was absolutely shocked when I got home to see her grooming. I called the manager to voiced my concern. I asked to speak with the regional manager and I was told to call 1-800 PetsMart. I said this was unacceptable and I needed a persons name and a number to talk with. I was told that the regional manager " got let go", and that they did not have someone to replace the regional manager as of yet. This manager told me that usually they charge $12 for a nail clipping and she could refund $12 and probably about $20 for not doing the head and face, which she said she could refund about $35 of the $55. I told her that I expected better grooming from this establishment and that I would now I have to find another groomer on short notice to get my pet groomed. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a pet groomed in Santa Fe on short notice? I am not pleased with Petsmart at all right now. I would not take my pets to Petsmart ever again. They have lost my business forever. read more
