I spoke to Sam who came over to my house and opened up my high ceilings to look at a leak. He said it was not caused by a balcony drain as I thought, it was caused by a leak in the chimney, creating black mold, rotting wood and even found evidence of termites. He hydro jetted the drain, then showed me that I still had numerous cast iron drainpipes, even though the house had been renovated. So, I tried to fix a leaky P-Trap and ended up spending three days working on it because I used too much force and punched a hole in the wall pipe. Mind you, we have really old cast iron pipes that are basically all rusted and stuck to each other. This ordeal made me realize that A) I am not a professional, B) I am not as young as I used to be (muscles I never knew I had were sore), and C) Ibuprofen is my friend. I called a random plumber (who shall remain nameless 'cause that's not nice) and they showed up with caked muddy shoes and tracked dried dirt and mud all over the house. I mean, we have hardwood floors so no biggie I guess, but at least wipe yer feet on the front doormat like a civilized human being. The guy glanced under the sink and proceeded to quote us the equivalent of an arm and two legs. He also threw in all sorts of scary scenarios, "just in case - so you're not surprised"... mmmhmm... I may not be a pro, but I also know when I'm being price-gouged. I politely told the guy that I would have to think it over and if I happened to sell one of my kidneys to pay for his astronomical quote, I'd give him a call. I finally gave up and told my friend about my plumbing woes and instantly, she says - "CALL SAM. CALL SAM!!! I'll give you his info." So, I did as I was told and CALLED SAM. Sam and Daniel came out and were SUPER nice, EXTREMELY professional, and even though their shoes were impeccably clean - they put those hospital booties on their shoes! It's the little things, people. In UNDER one hour, they were able to fix something I had been working on for three days, explained everything, and didn't try to upsell and use scare tactics to throw in unneeded work like the other plumber did. And the final (and honestly fair) price? 88 percent LESS than the other plumber. Umm, yeah - we'll be calling Sam out when we finally decide to redo our bathrooms and kitchen... So, kids, the lessons I learned here - The first price isn't always the best price, although everyone's trying to gouge each other for money these days - there are still some honest AND professional people out there, and most importantly - I ain't no spring chicken anymore. I was told to get my sewer line annually - a friend recommended Just Drain It. Sam was easy to schedule, and explained what would happen on the service call. I also asked him to do a check on my tankless water heater. Sam's communication was great, letting me know when he would arrive. This review is more than a year in the making. There is not enough words to say how thankful I am for Sam's expertise and professionalism. Back story: Flashback to April 11th of 2020 during the height of the pandemic. My parents called me stating that the drains were not working, they could not use the bathroom or any other sink in the house. My parents are older and have my 93 year old grandmother living with them. I was not aware that they were using neighbors bathrooms for a week. I called 5 different plumbing companies who promised they could hydro-jet or clear the sewer line for $450-$500. Once they came to the house they looked at the amount of stairs and basically walked away stating that they would need a team to come back and do the job for around $1600. So as any worried Son would do, I dawned my tool belt, went to home depot and rented a motorized snake. I lugged it up all 22 steps and into the basement, dug out the sewer line cut the pipe and began trying to clear the sewer line. To no avail, I gave up after a day and called 2 more high rated plumbing businesses with many many review, which was the same story, they arrived, they saw the stairs they walked away with high price tag, not even inspecting the actual job. Worried about my elderly parents and frustrated thinking nobody would help or that during this time, where money was strained already, I would have to pay $1500 for a clog... I began my search on yelp, yet again. I found this newer company owned by Sam with only a couple reviews. I took my chance and sent him a message. Mind you this was already on a Saturday at 6pm. Sam responded so quick to my message and called me right away. I explained to him the situation of not having an accessible trap, needing a hydro-jet, and that my parents during this time were in a bad place due to having to use neighbors facilities, especially during the peak of the pandemic and stay at home orders. Without any hesitation, Sam said he would be there in 45 minutes. After Sam arrived, he alone came up to the basement, and fully inspected the location of the exposed and cut sewer pipe, which I made to gain access, Sam also ran his camera scope to actually see what was blocking the pipe. Not like the other "High Rated" plumbing companies who just eye-balled the house and the steps and walked away. Sam by himself, lugged the equipment up the stairs, and got to work. Within minutes he was able to clear the entire sewer line from the house to the city main. He then inspected the pipe again with his camera to show me that it was perfectly clear again. Sam brought all of the spare parts to create an accessible trap for the future. I told him that I would be able to do so, but was missing a clamp. Sam again without hesitation just gave me the clamp I needed to close things up. Sam was starting out his business back then, and I glad to see that his business has grown, with so many happy customers. The ends Sam went to in order to get the job done during those hard times, especially at the great rate he quoted, a Thank you is not enough to show our gratitude. Sam was the first response I got on Yelp. He was the only one that provided an estimate too. After digging into the problem and things getting more complicated (due to my SEVERELY root-clogged drains) he provided me with several good options, advising me honestly with price and short vs long-term spending. In the end he personally got the job done in only a few days with one other man and I can completely count on my house when the next heavy rain comes can down. I went from zero functionality in three drains, a poorly placed French drain next to the foundation, and a clogged old exit pipe (incorrectly leading off onto the neighbor's slope)--to 75 feet of new 4-inch sewer grade pipe rated to last 100 years. Plus multiple nearly invisible two-way cleanouts for easy future hydrojetting maintenance. Note: I received replies from probably 3 or 4 other companies. One had the most reviews and (and excellent ones)... but none were as easy and straight up as Sam.
