The Rock knows hair…read more I've been seeing Lisa at the Rock for the past 5 years, even though I've been living outside of St. Albert for most of that time (that's how good they are here, folks). Though the outside of the building looks like a leftover set from a Flintstones live-action movie, the interior has a very open and relaxed feel and the ceiling looks like it's plastered with icing. Seriously. Look up next time you're there. It'll kick your sweet tooth into high gear. The girls at the reception desk are friendly and offer you coffee/tea/the moon while you wait for your appointment. There are plenty of hair & beauty mags to leaf through for some last-minute inspiration. All salon services start with a free stress-relieving head & neck massage (as is custom with most Aveda salons). In my experience, the stylists have all been attentive, friendly, and efficient - and their work is excellent. They know how to cut hair in such a way that it not only looks gorgeous in the salon, but also after you wash it and even as it grows out. The prices are on the higher end of the scale (especially if you see a senior stylist), but considering the quality of the cut and the excellent service, the prices are very fair. I can't personally vouch for the other services offered here (colour, facials, massages), but I did buy my mum a massage package for Mother's Day a couple years ago and she loved it. I can't say enough good things about this place - The Rock is solid. (Ha!)

The top layer is at my ears and is so thick (thicker than my bottom layer). Bottom layer is at shoulders. I have 2 layers only. It's such a bad hair cut that I can't even "curl" it into something nice. That is saying something.

Friendly staff. Lots of services. Pricy…read more I've known about external affairs for a very long time as I frequent tons of spas. I won a giveaway and was able to try the services. I had my facial consult which was neat because they took photos to see problem areas on my skin. I found the consult to not be so helpful. I was recommended things that other spas would refuse to do to my skin because it was too harsh. I'm super careful and knowledgeable about different treatments so this kind of sent off a red flag for me. They really only recommended treatments which they had the machines for which was pretty limited from what I am accustomed to from going to medical spas. I also was actually taken back by the prices as they were alot more than other places I've been to. Hence probably why I never tried them before. Anyways...I ended up being model for a hydra facial Deluxe for $235 and got 50% off my treatment. The tech was actually new and I felt like she didn't give me a proper treatment because I could feel that she had missed some areas and didn't focus on my problematic areas (nose and chin). Luckily I was using a gift card and got a discount for the treatment. But if I had paid full price I would definitely have been disappointed. Overall. They have good options available for treatments and plenty of products which I am yet to try. And maybe I'll come back for one of their specials. But my skin didn't feel or look as glorious as it typically did compared to getting a $235 treatment elsewhere. So I'm not sure I can justify the full price from this experience. It was overall a positive experience but a few things were off for me. I am a spa addict and I have extremely high expectations of going to a spa for treatments so take this with a grain of salt.

Originally I saw Dr. Briggs here (who was always fabulous) but he's moved to Ottawa with the military (thank you for your service). I've seen a nurse and another doc that recently came into the practice in the past year and have continued to receive excellent care and treatment. The environment is always impeccably clean and the staff welcoming. They now are offering regular family health care here as well as female specialized. So if you're looking for a new GP, you may want to consider checking them out. The Botox for migraines program has been life changing. It took three visits over 9 months for my migraines to stop and I'm so very glad I didn't stop after the second visit. Since starting this program, I have gone from missing 1-3 days of work, life, and fun a month to having only 1 or 2 minor migraines a year! Seriously - like I used to get so bad I would have to see a neurologist and go into the ER for IV treatment to stop the throw up cycle :-( I still keep prescription migraine melts on hand for emergencies but I could probably survive now with just Advil and ibuprophen. Seriously, if you suffer from migraines, PLEASE inquire if this program is right for you. See you again in 3 months, External Affairs. PS Love the email and text reminders for appointments especially as mine are 3 months apart.

I have been going to Mimosa since they opened in March 2010 and have experienced several exceptional services - pedicure, facial, manicure, and waxing to name a few. All of the staff are professionally trained and extremely knowledgeable of all the services offered. I had returned from a 4 month trip to a more humid climate (let's be honest, it is hard to go somewhere that isn't more humid then Edmonton) and was having trouble with breakouts on my face - I didn't know which facial would be best. But I didn't need to worry as the owner was able to tailor a facial specifically to my needs. I was very impressed with the results and feel that helped my skin adjust overall to being back in Edmonton. My favorite service is the pedicure. You can select between several options - I generally go with the Express Pedicure and then every once in a while spoil myself and splurge on the Signature Pedicure. They have the big relaxing massage chairs so the whole time your feet and lower legs are being pampered you can also be enjoying a back and neck massage. Mimosa also offer a membership for regular visitors - the membership has several benefits including discounts on all services so I think it is worth it even if you only go a couple times in a year. I love Mimosa and will continue to return regularly. I have also referred family and friends and they have all had the same wonderful experience as I do.
