We hired The Design Studio to remodel our master bath in 2023; the work entailed removing the tub, enlarging the shower, adding a steam unit to the shower, tile and a bidet toilet. We were told the job would take 3-4 to complete; it was finally finished 3 1/2 months later. Construction delays happen, I understand that, but the delay became least of our problems. We had inspectors and contractors come back and we then realized we had much larger issues, which landed us in a lengthy, painful legal battle with this person. Most of the issues were around the shower glass and steam unit. The glass was to be floor to ceiling and 10 ft. high; it was installed incorrectly after many delays and breaking of the glass at one point. Rather than take responsibility for her subs she blamed them for everything and withheld payment to them to the point that one sub threatened to put a lien on our house. The steam unit took over an hour to get to temperature; we were told that was normal. Only after hiring an inspector did we learn that the steam unit was woefully underpowered for the size of the space, it should have been four times the output that this one was. The glass and steam unit were only part of our problems, we have incorrect wiring, substandard hardware and poor workmanship and mold beginning to form. Prior to discovering the full scope of work that would have to be torn out and re-done all I asked for from the Design Studio was a refund of the cost of the glass, we would get it replaced on our own. We were offered next to nothing in return so we decided to take it to court, a decision that we regret. We are not the type of people to sue, it is not something we have ever considered. We spent over 3 years in the system with delayed court dates, failed mediation and a large amount of money in legal fees. When we finally got our day in court the trial never started. The judge asked why we hadn't settled then suddenly she was ready to settle, AFTER THREE YEARS!!! After a very short negotiation between attorneys, we came to a settlement. The agreed settlement was far from what we had spent but at least it was over, at least we thought. When the time came for her to sign the judgement, she informed the judge that she would be filing for bankruptcy, leaving us with nothing except an expensive bathroom that needs to be remodeled correctly and a large dent in our bank account. I hope this helps someone make an informed decision when hiring a contractor, all of this and more are in writing in emails, text messages and public records. Be very cautious of The Design Studio, Tammy Hamilton or Hammertown, her company that she previously bankrupted.

They made regular visits to my house to inspect the work in progress. Even after completion of the project they stayed in touch to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. All the workers were courteous and professional. Each day they carefully cleaned the work and adjacent areas. At the end of the project a housecleaning service thoroughly cleaned and touched up. It amazes me how other companies and individuals didn't respond to my inquiries or ghosted me after promising to provide a quote. Importantly, ICO is local with brick and mortar offices in the metroplex. I would be leery of all those virtual companies who devote most of their resources to sales and marketing and then sub the work to random contractors.

(I'm not embellishing) Had to install the cabinets twice (ordered incorrectly and hung at the wrong height), the rough plumbing is so poorly done that the knobs don't sit right and turn lop-sided; failed to contain the renovation dust which covered even stuff inside cabinets and drawers throughout the house. The cleaning crew came multiple times and I still had to hire my own at a cost of $360, to get all the ceiling fans, fixtures, floors, etc. finally clear of dust and paint splatters. They scratched my hardwoods and damaged my stove. To top it off, they stopped paying the subs and one of them put a lien on my house, EVEN though, i was up to date on my payment arrangement. Once we started realizing that we were writing checks to Signature and the subcontractors weren't being paid, we demanded our money be returned. We even had a mechanics lien threatened on our home due to the fact that our money was clearly not going directly to the subcontractors. She claimed they were, but we know how to match up emails with check stub dates. We're not stupid. We were lied to multiple times regarding whether they were paid, and given false status updates on multiple material orders. After being told that our backsplash was back-ordered, we called the supplier that we had been working with directly. She said, "we have plenty, there is over 4000sq/ft in our warehouse." At the end of the day, we ended up getting a small percentage of our money back, an incomplete project, and a gaping hole in our wall leading to the attic that we were forced to cover-up ourselves. Unfortunately, we had to threaten a lawsuit in order to get some scraps back. Somehow, Robin made it seem like this was a big inconvenience for her. We gave her a great deal on repaying her debt, and she either responded with large communication gaps, or flat-out rudeness. In fact, I've never communicated with someone so dense and rude in my life. I'm not sure if she simply doesn't know what she's doing, or if this is deliberate. Nor am I sure which one is worse. Either way, you've been warned. Steer clear.

I needed diagnostics and repair, and while they sell genuine Broilmaster parts, they don't really perform that type of repair work themselves. Here's where they earned a customer for life. Instead of trying to sell me a new grill--or worse, pretending they could do something they couldn't--they recommended a local technician who regularly purchases Broilmaster parts from them. That technician drove over an hour to diagnose and rebuild my grill, using only factory-authorized Broilmaster parts purchased from Fireplace & BBQ's. The result? My old Broilmaster now looks and performs like it just rolled off the showroom floor. I'm convinced it'll probably outlive me. Could I have gone to a big-box store and bought a shiny new aluminum grill? Sure. That's exactly what one store recommended. But anyone who knows grills knows many of those are designed to be replaced every few years. My Broilmaster was built to last generations, and now it probably will. The best part of this story is that Fireplace & BBQ's didn't have to recommend someone else. They could have simply said, "Sorry, we don't do that." Instead, they pointed me to the right person, and in the end they still earned the parts business because I insisted my technician buy only genuine manufacturer-authorized parts from them. That's how great businesses operate. They put the customer first, earn trust instead of demanding it, and understand that doing the right thing almost always comes back around.
