Yes it smelled funny..but we are basically in a kennel folks..kennels smell..sorry..even the shelters smell the same way! As far as the "lack of customer service" heck people couldn't wait to help me! They were all kind and very helpful in answering my questions. Miss Allison who completed my sale was Very detail oriented and I felt comfortable with my choice of my baby pug. The parking lot was tight..but goodness..again did we really expect a valet? On 9/6/2019, I had a training in Baltimore that ended at 12 pm instead of the original scheduled time of 4 pm. Thus, I immediately drove to Owings Mills, Maryland to pick up my niece and nephew so we could socialize for a few hours. I live in Upper Marlboro, Maryland so I wanted to spend some time with my niece and nephew while also petting puppies! Little did we know of a hidden gem called Just Puppies located in Towson, Maryland! We were referred to go to this location by a staff member from a pet store in Foundry Row. When we first walked into the establishment of Just Puppies, there were 3 staff members and the place was very bright and well lit. The staff were super friendly and allowed us to pet and play with the dogs for FREE! They explained the process of playing with the puppies and designated which playroom to go in to play with the dogs. My niece and I could play with 2 dogs at a time as long as they were in the same cage before we played with them. The dogs in the same cage have the Same germs, vaccine, etc. I highly recommend coming to this location if you are looking to play with puppies and may be interested in purchasing a dog. My Just Puppies dog turns five this weekend, so figured I would write a review By apparently pure luck, I ended up with the best dog I could ever imagine. I live in Washington, DC and the none of the area dogs in the shelters fit the profile of what I was looking for, and got tired of waiting. I personally, was looking for a 8-10 week old puppy that I could train myself. I was looking for a non-shedding poodle mix of some sort that would be smart, non-shedding, and easily trainable. After visiting the store with my sister and playing with 3 or 4 dogs, I settled on one fluffball who was an 8 week old pomeranian-poodle mix "Pomapoo". He had just came into the store that morning from whatever puppy mill he came from in Iowa. They said his adult weight would be 12-15 pounds, which was perfect for my small apartment. Upon checkout - I asked if they had any coupons online and they applied a $50 credit for a total of $450+tax. The steal of a lifetime. While the customer service wasn't a Ritz quality experience, the associates were helpful, friendly, and helped give me tips on my first dog. What I had bought ended up being one of the cutest dogs that you have ever seen. It was hard to make it down the block without getting stopped for the first year. This dog was extremely smart, well behaved, and easily trainable. Well - the puppy kept on growing. Way past 15 pounds and settled in at an adult weight of 27 pounds. It is actually the perfect size dog for me, and am glad that I am not walking around with a 12 pound accessory. He turns five this weekend. They also got the breed mix wrong. Every week, people would stop and ask if he was a Bichon. "No, he is a F'ing pomapoo". "Well, he looks like my Bichon". Jesus. Well, finally got one of those $60 tests and found out that he is 50% bichon and 50% pomeranian. So now, he is a Pomachon. It's not as fun to say, and we can't change his facebook page URL, but it's cool. I just feel bad for the half-dozen other people who went out and bought Pomapoos thinking they would look like my dog. No idea how he ended up at 27 pounds though. I guess we shouldn't have fed him spinach and protein shakes. The next dog I would likely buy directly from a breeder instead of a store. I would want to see the environment that the dogs were raised in. I have to rate this store at least four stars for giving me the most incredible best friend of a dog, being healthy, and fair price. I can't agree more with the other views here. I was excited to bring a potential family member but I couldn't bring a golden retriever home due to the size of my condo. I explained to the lady I have a park right across my place, I work from home all the time due to the pandemic so I would take care of her all the time, and there's a doggy park as well since my place is a dog friendly zone. And she was like"NOOO." Just because I have a condo doesn't mean I'm not qualified to take care of a golden retriever. I had a chocolate lab, jack Russell terrier and I got it from Just Puppies...BUT IN THE ROCKVILLE location. Someone's size of the house shouldn't dictate if the dog is going to be well take care of. Walking in, you can't help but feel bad for the pups. I wish there were windows or something to allow them to get natural light or some fresh air. The pups are very expensive and they are puppy mill pups. It does make me very happy when you take the pups into the area to play and they seem like this is their first time able to run around. Went in to inquire and see two puppies of interest. Left with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. The store is moderate in size, dusty and staff do not seem too happy to be there. One employee was very rude to customers from asking for a deposit if you want to look at more than one puppy to confront a customer and stating the weekends are very busy, so if they were not interested in purchasing a puppy today then leave for she did not have the time to take puppies out for people to play with. My husband, brother-in-law, and I visited this place today because my brother-in-law is in search of a dog. Unfortunately, we decided to walk out because the employees were unprofessional and condescending. When we walked in, the store was empty except for a mother and daughter who were in the middle of buying a puppy. The employees were just hanging out, taking selfies, and barely greeted us. We were then told not to put our fingers into the crates and to stay behind the taped line. Understood. However, when we asked about interacting with a shih-poo puppy that my brother-in-law was SERIOUSLY considering buying, one of the employees promptly told us "play sessions are not held on the weekends" and that because the puppies are less than 3 pounds and "could die" if they are "exposed to germs and infections", they are "careful about who they take the puppies out for". So is the assumption then that the puppies are immune to germs and infections during the weekdays but not on the weekends? Or is the assumption that we are dirty and not the type of customers "who they take the puppies out for"? We then asked about interacting with a border collie puppy that was clearly over 3 pounds. A different employee proceeded to ask, "Do you have a home? Have you had a herding dog before? Herding dogs are very difficult dogs and you should probably do a lot of research before taking one home." The only thing I could say was, "Excuse me?" Between me, my husband, and my brother-in-law, we have raised 5 dogs and we currently have 3 dogs. Thanks to our Asian heritage, we may look very young, but we are all GROWN, 30-YEAR OLD ADULTS who OWN our homes and did NOT just walk into the store on a whim. The cherry on top? A white couple that walked in 5 minutes after was warmly asked, "So are you looking for a specific breed?" They weren't. THEY were "just looking", there on a whim. Perhaps the employees were just trying to make sure the puppies were going to "good homes". More realistically, the employees are undertrained, unprofessional, and judgmental. Unprofessional and condescending is putting nicely how we were treated today. So i drove all a long way from VA to their location, hoping to find a puppy that i would like. First impression was BAD!!! how could they put 3-4 dogs in 1 crate, regardless the size of the puppies. We bought our Samoyed puppy from Just Puppies in April of this year. Our puppy was healthy except for kennel cough (which is very common for dogs from pet stores). Just Puppies covered all the costs for his treatment since they cover all vet appointments and medications. Today, our puppy is great. He is perfectly healthy and he could not possibly be any more amazing! My wife and I could not imagine our puppy being anymore perfect! However, Just Puppies is obviously not perfect. My wife and I did not approve of the living conditions the puppies were kept in and they also did not have any toys or anything to play with in the crates they were kept in. read more

Visited the shop yesterday which was in a weird location. So puppies seemed cute from what I could see at more than an arm's length away, but customer service was hor-ree-able!! As soon as we walked in, the rules were barked at us "No fingers in cages and stay behind the black line"...well good afternoon to you too! We were talking to a lady who had purchased a yorkie that was still in the cage and had a sign that said on hold. Another customer pointed at the yorkie to a staff member asking a general question about yorkies and the staff member doesn't even answer the question but instead says oh that's her dog! The customer says I wasn't trying to steal her dog and walks out. So after looking around I asked a different staff member if we could play with a puppy and she says no only between certain days and that we could only play with one if we were interested in purchasing one. So I explained that we have been searching for this particular breed and had just come from the Rockville location (which lets you play with puppies). I was irritated because we had drove a ways and this has been the 1st pet store I've been to where customers have been restricted from playing with puppies. The days you can play with puppies are weekdays which are harder for working individuals. The reviewer who says staff couldn't wait to help her must've looked rich because after I told staff I was shopping for a puppy she still didn't make any customer service attempts to gain our business. I mean we aren't teenagers just coming to play with cute puppies. You lost out on potential customers!! Also, the shop is small cramped, overly crowded and no windows. First of all, this place smells really bad....but I can see why since the little puppies just pee and poop in their crates. I was searching for a cute little white or cream Pomeranian all over Maryland and finally I saw her on the website the night before. I drove over an hr just to see her right when the store opens. Purchased her within 10mins of seeing her. I got my cute little Pomeranian from here about 2 months ago. She had a few minor health issues and Ive been taking her to the vet. But so far she's pretty normal and a very energetic little puppy. I love her so much and she's the cutest thing. Although many people say it's from puppy mills, I just feel Like some of these puppies are so lucky to be able to fine loving owners to purchase them. So at the end of the day, think of it as you saving them. If you don't bring them home, these puppies will be stuck in those stinky cages and maybe shipped back to the mills. Then who knows what will happen to them then. Yes, some might be sick with different issues, but only the owners, who purchased them are able to treat and care for them. Some puppies are saved because of these caring and loving owners. I give them one less star for the stinky smell of the store and several minor health issue from my puppy. But the lady helping me was really nice and the price is pretty decent. I was able to purchase her about 15 mins before another man came looking for her too. I found the staff friendly and helpful. The dog areas were clean and the puppies were fine. We visited our dog several times before purchase. Due to allergies our family needed a Bichon & just couldn't afford the $2500 the breeder wanted. We checked for nearly two years with local shelters and none had what we needed. Friends used just puppies and we're pleased so we gave it a try. Her cast was a fraction of the breeders and in our affordability range. We are so happy!!!!!! What a wonderful companion. About 2 weeks ago I got my little man from this location. The staff was amazing the young girl behind the counter helped me with all my questions and I had a million. She never once was bothered by all my questions. We are very grateful she helped us find our forever friend Bear the German Sheppard. Yeah that's right Ki$$ it!--- If you've had a dog before or done your research on getting a dog, you will find flaws with a lot of the negative reviews. FYI My mom bought a beagle -poo ten years ago and she is still healthy! No congenital problems, no behavioral problems. WONDERFUL dog. I got a cockapoo a year and a half ago and he is healthy and happy, a little shy but that's because I haven't done my part to socialize him. It took him a while to be trained but he is a healthy, happy and very spoiled dog. Just puppies even offers a health garuntee with certain vets in the area so as long as you take your little pal to the vet within the first week any medical expenses are on just puppies. My puppy had worms, but you could only tell by microscope and Just Puppies paid for his antibiotic. Before I got my dog, he got kennel cough when he first arrived (happens very often, and dogs get it a lot at the pound because they are all together in a shared space) He was treated by Just Puppies and put back up for sale and that's when I came fell in love and bought him. Best friend any single guy or gal could have. :) So don't beleive the hype from everyone else, some people complain that they couldn't train their dog. Sometimes you gotta ask yourself "Did I do what I was supposed to do to train the dog?" It takes a lot of time, and a lot of energy! I remember going out at least 8 times a day with my dog the first few days. It was exhausting. Be humble and do your research. If you're dog isn't doing what you want him/her to do maybe it's YOU who needs to be a better trainer or you may even need to take classes. It's not an overnight process. It takes weeks even months for certain tasks. If you don't want the responsibility, don't buy the dog in the first place. P.S. I did write the same review on Google, because I was too lazy to re-type the same thoughts and feelings over again. I hope this review helps someone else find their next bff. :) read more

This place is the absolute worst. The staff is extremely rude and seems to care nothing at all about the poor puppies here. I am surprised that they are still in business. I adopted a Pomeranian puppy from just puppies. The puppy was very timid and did not have much energy, but he was sooo adorable and I actually felt sorry for him. I discussed my concerns with the staff and they mentioned that I had a few days in the cause he needed to be brought back. But they also insured me that he's fine and that it's just his temperament. That night when I got him home, he was vomiting everywhere and extremely sick. I took him to the vet and they actually informed me that he saw the puppy there beforehand had prescribed meds (Just Puppies uses the same vet in which you are required to take your new puppy to for follow up care). The vet was surprised that I was not advised of all medical issues w/ this pup. I ended up taking him back and forth to the vet and it became very expensive because the warranty only covers certain services. I regret that I could not keep him because he desperately needed tlc. I ended up taking him back. Originally I was told that I couldn't because it was outside of the time allotted. I made a fuss and showed all paper work and bills from vet and also voiced the face that the vet suggested that we return him because there were just so many serious issues. I later communicated with a friend about this who stated that one of her friends had the same exact issue w/ Just Puppies. read more

The Maryland Leg. is considering a bill (S.B. 505) right now, which would prohibit the sale of puppies at pet stores. I urge to contact your local rep. and here's why: I purchased my Shiba Inu from Just Puppies in Towson on Feb. 16, 2005. I wasn't as informed about puppy mills at the time and how these pet stores are supplied. If I ever decide to get another dog, I will adopt. My puppy almost certainly came from a puppy mill. When I took him to THEIR vet (Dr. Ernest Slovon), the one that had signed off on my dog's bill of health for sale, he diagnosed my puppy with Grade II Patellar Luxation and apologized for missing the diagnosis twice before. I then took my puppy to MY vet for a second opinion. They confirmed the Patellar Luxation and also found via x-rays that he had sustained extreme trauma over the first 8 weeks of his life. He had had broken bones at some point, which no one at the breeder (puppy mill) or pet store had noticed or bothered to treat so they had healed improperly. It had been obvious to me the second I saw him in the store that something wasn't right because he was so bow-legged. But no one else had noticed or cared to that point. I presented my case to Just Puppies, who could not have been ruder and more unwilling to accept any sort of responsibility, and they refunded me the purchase price of my dog, although not the hundreds of dollars in vet bills. Their reply letter stated, "...any claims made involving this store, or the breeders care of the dog will be ignored, and have no bearing upon you refund. Thank you for your patience, and I hope Charles is doing well." I almost threw up from the hypocrasisy of the last line. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE WELFARE OF THE ANIMALS THEY SELL. Charles turned 5 in December and is doing well, although he is still very bow-legged and will probably experience arthritis and pain more and more as he gets older. I'm thankful that he has given me a story to tell in order to warn others of the dangers of pet stores and puppy mills. Adopt! read more

I went to this store hopeful to fall in love with the right puppy. Unfortunately, the experience was just sad. The conditions do not by any means seem sanitary or safe for the puppies. Additionally, the store has a policy where you can't hold or play with the puppies unless you're ready to buy that day. I don't see how you can know you want a puppy until you have at least held it to get a feel for its personality and temperament, especially when most of the dogs are over $1000. Additionally, you can tell that the pups are longing to get out of their tiny cages and have some human interaction rather than just be stared at. I gave higher than one star because I only stopped by one day and am not sure if they treat the pups differently during the week, but this place needs some serious work on it's policies and procedures. I hope the puppies they keep are safe and happy, because it definitely did not seem that way from an objective standpoint. read more

Raoul answered the phone and was very nice and said bring him here and I did the next day as planned and he never showed up and 4 days later either. So this puppy was placed where? It was from PA. I was yelled at by the girl at the desk. The phone call led to the same treatment. It was not what was promised. I am still hoping that the owner Mitch will return this puppy to me. I bought a dog there yesterday. I was a bit put off by these negative reviews but things went well enough for me. They made it possible for me to get a dog that fit our needs immediately Yes the place is a little crappy and awkward to get to. They are small and have maybe 16 cages that are decent size with a couple of pups per cage. The dogs come in at 8 weeks and new ones come in every Thursday. When people come in to look at them, they can play with the pups in a small viewing area. This is probably all the exercise they get outside of playing with their cagemate, but for a pup, that is not bad. All dogs are checked by vets and come with some basic free vet care. They do not come from puppy mills and the dogs are not mistreated in the store. Sure it is not the best way to buy a puppy, but not everyone can hook up with a breeder and find a pup who spends all but the last day with their mom and siblings. If you need a puppy fast or just don't want to spend too much time and effort finding one, Just Puppies fits the bill. Note, I looked at rescue dogs and would have went that route, but their procedures are ridiculous. They want to screen applicants, get a vet reference and come to my home. As a professional engineer with a doctorate, I find this excessive distrust to be off putting as I am sure many other, good dog owners do as well. read more

Horrible place. All the puppies are from puppy mills, and have been known to be sick or mutated. The people who own this business have no respect for animals, or for their customers. Please, unless you support puppy mills, or the assembly line like manufacturing of dogs do not purchase your puppy from here. ALSO super overpriced. read more

My experience at the Towson location has been nothing more than pleasant and the staff was very professional and knowledgable. I called first about pricing and the woman was very patient and answered all my questions, I had many. When I visited the store it was busy of course but I was quickly acknowledged and helped, although I had to wait I about 10 minutes for a playroom to open up but not a big deal. I picked a male yorkie puppy and instantly fell in love, I was not rushed or interrupted during my play time with him and ultimately I ended up purchasing him. The woman at the front desk went over the price, care for the puppy and welcomed any questions I had she was friendly and did not rush me. For my fellow military active and retired, they offer a 10% discount they reduced the price by $150 and I was very grateful for that. For those that don't understand pet stores and puppy care, yes they only want those who are seriously considering a puppy to interact with them because puppies that young can easily get sick from the germs people carry especially young kids. I don't see the point of bringing in you're entire family to see puppies if you have no intentions of purchasing one, the store isn't that big and it's kind of frustrating for it to be filled with "window shoppers." And yes the store had a smell, any place that holds many animals are going to smell there's no way around it. Needless to say I'm very happy with my puppy, he had tons of energy and already knew how to sit and stay when I got him home. I'm giving four stars for now and will update my review after I've had him for a few months. read more
