I started coming to V Lim's father's shop in San Lorenzo for smogs back in 1995 according to my records. Initially came from Oakland due to a coupon in the old Classified Flea Market paper CFM.. Then just continued to bring my 1989 Volvo 740 to his father's shop thru 2004. Always excellent service. But then California began demanding that older cars only be tested at a STAR "Test-Only" station. Fortunately Veasna Lim opened up his Just Smog shop so I was able to stay with having equally excellent service. I initially came for the good price, but now I still drive from Oakland for the great service and professional skill, just like I got with his father. Veasna is also a great trustworthy guy and my wait is never that long. Looks like my Volvo is going to run forever, so I expect to remain a customer of Just Smog for many years to come-- 24 years so far. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else for my smog. read more

V is a Super nice guy! Totally recommend this place. Affordable, quick, and no hassle to getting your car smogged. I use to work at an auto and truck repair shop for 10 years while doing hair on the side. The neighbors of the repair shop was a smog spot, so I never needed to look for one. After switching to hair full time I needed to find another place for car smogs. I'm so happy to have found Just Smog. It conveniently close to my house. I won't go anywhere else. So giving this place a great review would eventually backfire on those of us who discovered it, I'll tell you why in a bit... They are fast, effective, and honest. The staff here is friendly, and the place is small but it's got all you need to get your smog test done. I like them better than any other place I have used before. The problem? They are so good that they deserve 5 stars, and once everybody on Yelp knows about it, those of us who are already customers will have to wait in line to be served. Worst place to get your smog check. As soon as I arrived the guy working there ignored me and I had to ask more than once if they were star certified smog shop until he mumbled "yeah" and then went back to ignoring me. I waited a more than 10 minutes until he finally got around to seeing my car but then some issues came up with my car and he said I need a ton of stuff to change on my vehicle to pass smog. I told him I didn't have any of that stuff and he then said , " then non op it then!" (That means get the DMV to put the car in non operation mode and don't drive it.) What a jerk! Instead of wasting my time with this idiot, who by the way didn't even test my car before telling me all that, I left to find a better place to get checked out. At least one that can treat me like a human being and not a jerk like this guy . Place looks like a junk yard too with cardboard walls and dust piled everywhere. I guess bad work goes along with dirtiness. Don't ever go to a place like this. read more

Very impressed with how nice the owner is despite how busy he gets and interrupted by new customers coming by. I came at 10am on a Monday and there were 5-6 cars waiting in front of me. He stopped for a second to say hello and let me know the wait time. I don't think he takes appointments. He just seems to do it from memory of who checks in with him. Just from observing, that seems to be his system and it works. He is quick and efficient. Only took about 10 minutes. Not much parking in the area because it's a small location with other businesses in the same driveway, but on average he had about 5 cars always waiting and everyone seemed to find somewhere to park and wait. $40 and 15 minutes for a smog check. GREAT! Honest work for an honest day's pay. It's hard to find good auto people out there who won't rip you off and still do a good job. I came in on a Thursday around 10am and since I was one of the few people there (some were finishing up), it wasn't a wait at all. They have two chairs you can sit in right in the garage so you can watch what they're doing to your car too. This was my first smog check so he explained everything to me and the process was completely pain free. It's not too clearly visible right off the street but it's located next to Goodwill. read more

This will be the only smog check place I go to now, and will recommend to friends if they ask. Friendly and helpful guy! When my car didn't pass the first time, he gave me the error code so I could get it fixed. Today, my car passed, and that's not all. Not only did he helped me fix a small problem in the car, he also flicked off a 7-cell wasp nest under the hood! I've been driving around with a wasp nest under the hood! Damn! This year has been hectic for me, and I didn't read the DMV renewal closely. So I sent in the registration form and fees, and didn't even notice that a smog check was required. Got a letter after the state cashed my check, saying, "Hey man, you're on the hook for a smog - hurry up and get it before you get ticketed." Fair enough - my fault for not reading. So I needed a place that was fast, inexpensive, and convenient. Since I work in Hayward, I figured I'd look there. Yelp reviews for Just Smog were about right (despite my belief that everyone over-hypes everything on Yelp, I figured they had to be better than everyone else since there were no credible negative reviews). Called up today and got a price quote over the phone for my car. Went down there around 11:15am and talked to Max, who was in the middle of doing another vehicle. He said it'd be about 20 minutes to wait. No problem, as it looked like I was next. The next 20 minutes were probably the most pleasant and easy 20 minutes I've *ever* spent at a smog check station. Max efficiently finished the car ahead of me, and asked me to get my car warmed up while he was doing that. Then he pulled the other car out, took mine in, and started up the test. Less than 20 minutes later, I had passed (barely - but that's not their fault!) and was on my way. Of note: I didn't have the DMV paperwork, but Max was okay with that (I'm sure it even took him a little longer without that bar code to scan in the info, but you'd never guess it from the nice friendly attitude). All in all, I hope that next time I need a smog check, Just Smog is still doing it, and is still convenient to me. The reviews are true - this place is a good place to go. read more

This would be my Second time going here.I got here on very rainy morning 10/22/2012 for my 1996 Nissan Maxima's Registration is due to expire and it said my car needed a Smog job.This place is great, the service is Outstanding,The guy doing the smog is quite friendly. You go here,tell him you need a smog he puts your car on the apparatus on the floor he starts the procedure and right there and then he tells you if your car passes or not...Plain and Simple.No Frills just straight up business and that's what i like! great and speedy service! i was in and out in about half an hour (there was a car being smogged before me). i wish i would have gone here that last time. i didn't find the neighborhood sketchy at all (though there was a place in that same little "strip mall" of car repair places that reminded me of the "pay n spray" in gta!). lim was awesome! he even looked for my fusebox when i was told him my cigarette lighter wasn't working. now THAT's service! wish i could give it more than 5 stars. :) read more

Every year everyone needs to do the same thing. Get a smog, do your registration, pay the DMV. It's all a headache, and we all just want to get it over with. Just Smog understands that. In and out, get on with your life. Great staff! He is really busy at times, so it's best to call in to see how long the wait is going to be before heading over. If you do need to wait, there is a Starbucks, and Target across from Hesperian. You can go around, just leave them your key, and smog paper. read more

Came here after having my car smogged by a shop off meekland.failed 2 times their went back for a 3rd time and dude said there machine wasnt working so looked on yelp and found this shop. I seen the 5 star rating and read reviews as well. Very cheap smog was only $50 and you dont pay unless it passes. Im glad i found this shop because failing a smog can be stressfull.and the guy up here took his time to make sure my car passed because sometimes cars fail smog for the smallest little things.great place will come back and highly reccomend..i dont yelp at all but felt this shop deserved my time to write a review. read more

This place was kind of hard to find and is on a first come first served basis. The guy working, ill get his name when he isn't busy, is very friendly and quick. The pricing is better than I thought, sign says 70 which spooked me but it was only 40 and re tests are free. I would highly recommend this place! One of the best smog shops I've been to. read more
