We had a great stay at the JW Marriott Austin. We checked in on New Year's Eve, the lobby was still decorated for Christmas which we enjoyed, they had a beautiful tree, nutcrackers on display, and wreaths and garland all around the lobby. We were upgraded to a corner room due to our Marriott status, we had a great view of the city and Lady Bird Lake. The beds were firm, but comfortable. The room was spacious for two people, we were informed that the rooms were newly renovated and it was noticeable. We enjoyed our stay and would likely stay here again in the future. It was central to many of the things we wanted to do in and around the city, and wasn't too far from the airport (about 20 minutes). The only downside we found was that there were no laundry facilities for guests to utilize (aside from laundry services the hotel provides for steep prices), and there was no Jacuzzi which we would have really enjoyed. They have a full fitness center and a smaller spa. We took advantage of the $25 food and beverage credit for Marriott Bonvoy members. We also dined at several of the restaurants on property including Corner and Dean's. Dean's had the most delicious dessert. I highly recommend you try their ice cream. read more

I travel a lot for business and stay in a lot of hotels. The Marriott brand is one I trust, and the JW in Austin did not disappoint. The space was clean and open, had extensive conference facilities, a Starbucks, 2 restaurants, a bar, and a little market. The staff was helpful and accommodating even though I was there during a major event and a very busy time at the hotel. The hotel is walkable to many locations and restaurants including the Austin convention center. The room itself was clean and comfortable. If I travel to Austin again I will stay at the JW. read more

Stayed here for a celebration during the weekend. Overall, it was an okay experience. We had bed bugs the first night. When we told them, they apologized and swiftly moved us to another room and provided a gift card to use at the hotel-including restaurant, bar, starbucks. Received a call after we had moved our things to the different room, and they told us that their inspection showed no bugs. However, both my partner and I had bites all over our bodies that morning, which were not present before sleeping. Just hope that other guests do not experience the same thing. Other than that situation, our stay was nice. Restaurant is really nice and fancy, and the coffee/bakery shop is convenient. The location is perfect for downtown austin! read more

Nice clean hotel with great views of Downtown Austin. Only thing I would complain about would be the standard coffee machines in the rooms as well as no mini fridge. I typically stay at the W and they always have espresso machines in their rooms. I think it should be standard for the price point of this hotel. Stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend and loved it. The property is centrally located on Congress which makes getting anywhere easy. Over the holiday weekend they had holiday programming as well that we enjoyed on their outdoor pool area (with fake snow too!) The amenities are solid but I do wish they had a hot tub! Great location in Austin. Nice clean rooms with decent surface space in the bathrooms. The room was quiet, and the blackout shades worked really well too. Though I did not use it, the pool area looks nice and the Edge Rooftop bar was even noted by the Uber driver as a must. The front desk could be quicker, the phone in the room didn't work, so I needed to use the app to post a question for the front desk, and the faucet in the sink was barely useable. In other words, the place is still a hard stop under a five-star experience. However, overall it is still a great option for staying in the Austin area. read more

This beautiful hotel is in a perfect location in downtown Austin. The check in process was the best I've experienced. Front desk associate Karina was the sweetest and greeted me with a smile! I booked two queen rooms and one of my rooms was upgraded to a king because that is a preference in my profile. But since I was traveling with my child, I needed two queen beds. Karina immediately found a room with two queen beds, very quickly! Check in for both rooms took about 5 minutes. I am an elite member and this is very quick for two rooms! When I was done checking in, I asked Karina for recommendations of places to eat (bbq and Mexican food). She provided me with names of two restaurants just minutes away from our hotel and wrote it down for me. Karina thoroughly explained the executive lounge hours, etc. When she was done, she walked around her desk to hand me the keys to my two rooms. I went and got my family from the front waiting area. When we walked past her desk to head to our room, she greeted my entire family. Karina made us feel so welcome and we appreciate her friendly, yet professional demeanor. We had just driven an hour and a half from San Antonio to Austin and we were able to get to our rooms swiftly! Delson from in room dining brought up an amenity to my room. He was very soft spoken and addressed me as ma'am. My privacy sign was on and although my son was talking loudly, he didn't knock on our door. Instead, our phone rang and in-room dining advised us that someone was at the door. Delson asked if he could come in and I let him in. He set up my champagne in the ice bucket and set the two glasses as well. Our rooms were so very clean, beds were perfectly set. Air conditioner vent did not have dust on the outside. Spacious foyer area with a small coffee/tea machine. For a JW property, the rooms were moderately priced. Executive Lounge was larger than I expected. It was stocked with a vast variety of beverages such as bottled water, juices and sodas. There were three beverage coolers for beverages in the lounge. It was fully stocked!! Very tidy and no plates and drink ware on tables. An employee from housekeeping was there thoroughly cleaning the lounge. He cleaned each and every corner of the high top counter area that faced the window. He didn't just wipe it down, he fully sprayed, wiped, and scrubbed the corners to be sure there was no dust or dirt. I was in the lounge for an hour and I left before he did. Although it was not his job to help me when I was looking for something, he called the lounge attendant for me. This is my first visit to Austin and I look forward to visiting again!! read more

The JW never disappoints. Not only is it located in the middle of everything, it has top notch service and amenities. It's usually crowded, but that's because there is so much to do: from the lobby bar that usually has music, drinks, and people to talk to, to the pool and Edge bar which is crowded with families and singles, the extra spacious gym that could rival a standalone gym, awesome spa services and the comfy rooms. If you have status, the executive lounge has great food and drinks included. read more

Just checked in. The room is fine, and the bar area downstairs is nice. Overall good ambiance throughout the lobby. HOWEVER, Jose at the front desk was incredibly rude. Snooty vibes. He actually didn't give us the benefits that gold elite members normally get, and it felt like he enjoyed making things difficult for us. Once our second room was ready we picked up our second keycard from the manager and she gave us the $25 a day elite food/bar tab and the upgraded wifi speed info which is also included. We went to JW Marriott Austin to celebrate a birthday weekend, and we were very impressed with this hotel. When we arrived on check-in, Ruth (front desk staff) was very nice and helpful and accommodated us by providing a suite given my Marriott Titanium status. This was one of the best suite stays I've seen for a Marriott property! Service is fantastic and The hotel pool is really big for a downtown Marriott property. The location is also very convenient if you wish to go off the property and explore the city. Overall, I will definitely be coming back to this JW Marriott property in the near future! read more

JW Marriott is one of my go to's when I am in Austin, Texas. It is in a great location, convenient to walk to dinner or bar hop. Parking is crazy expensive, but at least it is not mandatory valet. Street parking is a little harder to find as this section of town is busier. They have a lounge which has 24/7 snacks, soft drinks as well as breakfast/happy hour. Alcohol drinks are for purchase. read more

I've stayed at this JW multiple times and every time I have had a great experience. It's in the heart of downtown and it's walking distance from so many good restaurants, shops, town lake, the hike and bike trail on Ladybird Lake, and so much more. The Corner restaurant and outdoor bar is a vibe and it's the perfect place to people watch being right on Congress and 2nd, there's a Starbucks on the second floor, a really good hotel lobby bar, a Burger Bar outside the hotel that's open really late, and they have Dean's Steakhouse in the same building as well. They also have a really nice pool and rooftop lounge supposedly, which I have never been to. The concierge here is so cool and helpful with anything you may need. If you're coming to Austin to have some fun or for a bachelor or bachelorette party, this is for surrre the place - coming from an Austin resident who has stayed in hotels all over Austin :) read more

I have stayed at a few JWs and they are pretty nice. This one in downtown is in a great location and has a beatuiful lobby. However, the rooms and carpeting in the corridors are a little tired and dated and could use a refresh. The room was functional so no complaints there. The staff was consistently friendly. This is the perfect spot to take a valentine date but you must get a room on a higher floor level " I was on the 35th floor" so that you can enjoy the beautiful skyline of Austin Texas at night. Stayed here this past weekend for sxsw for work and I wouldn't particularly recommend it. The 3 stars is for the staff and the rooftop. The rooftop is really cute and I'll leave a separate review for the bar up there. The pool area is great and the entire rooftop offers a great view of the city. The staff were overall really lovely, especially the bell desk, they were super helpful. The housekeeping staff seemed understaffed and overworked. My encounters with them were limited but this was my impression. Unfortunately it's also something I've noticed at some other Marriott properties in the past year. The rooms feel dated and easily the most bland personality-less hotel I've stayed at in awhile. Mine was pretty clean, just nothing special, and did not feel like a JWM. The lobby area and common spaces are more like, Radisson to be honest. It's just very conference-y and not all that nice. I know that this is a common hotel for execs to stay at and there were a lot of business celebrities staying there while I was there (including a few famous authors which was exciting to see) and I just felt like this hotel is totally not representative of what the brand is supposed to stand for and had I booked this for personal travel I would have been extremely disappointed. read more

Stayed for 3 nights for a work event, and found the hotel to be very beautiful, the staff was very warm and friendly, and the rooms were well appointed. I think they need to leverage some alternative cleaning supplies, the scent they left behind in my room was off putting- but it faded eventually. The gym was surprisingly nice and large, and that came in handy because so many guests were there every morning for their daily rituals. Having a Starbucks in the building was also very convenient, for my daily caffeine intake. The bed was very comfortable, and shower pressure was a 10/10. read more

My sisters came into town from Houston and wanted to check out a swanky hotel and lounge at the pool. The Fairmont was totally booked so we decided to check out the next best hotel: the JW Marriott. What I loved was the upscale lobby and waiting area aesthetic. Checking in was a breeze and took less than 5mins. FYI: there is no self parking so valet is mandatory. Valet is not included in your hotel stay so be prepared to spend about $45 a night. The rooms were nice, modern and cozy. The bathroom was nice but there was no door to fully separate the bathroom from the bedroom. Someone can view someone showering while the toilet was the only areas that had the full privacy with a door. That was a dealbreaker for me especially being a designer in the design industry. With the pandemic, the pool had a certain occupancy limit so we made sure we arrived a little after opening to make sure we got in. Their pool was underwhelming and small. For a luxury hotel I was expecting more. They had an outdoor bar area right off the entrance and plenty of covered cabanas (for a charge of course) and lounge seating around the pool. Drink prices are what you except for a high end hotel $$15 and above. I'd did appreciate for the price they used top shelf liquor. We ordered a few cocktail drinks and a bottle of champagne and a pitcher of OJ for mimosas which was roughly around $40 (not too bad of a price). To soak in the liquor we were drinking, we ordered tenders with gator tots and some queso. The food was delicious and cured our afternoon appetite. Late in the afternoon, we found the pool and the lounge area to be packed and exceeding the maximum amount that the hotel was suppose to allow due to COVID. My sisters and I left once we saw how packed it was getting. Although there were a few dealbreakers that this hotel offered, the location is prime and centrally located downtown near areas for site seeing, dining and exploration. read more

This is a typical JW that charges a premium for lodging, parking, and food and Bevs. However, you do receive excellent service, high-end comfortable rooms. I've stayed here a number of times, gratis, due to my rewards status and I've always been treated like a VIP. The concierge lounge provides pretty substantial breakfast options and the lounge staff ensures that the dining area is kept clean and food is replenished promptly. There is a Starbucks onsite and a pretty good adjoining bar off the lobby. We did dine, once, at their OP Italian restaurant and it was a strong 4-star experience. We recently attended a lunch meeting and I was expecting the typical rubber chicken circuit dining experience. I was pleasantly surprised that our lunch experience was quite good. We started with a salad that contained generous amounts of chunks yes chunks of pork belly! The grilled chicken, veggies, and rice were beyond satisfying. Excellent service, amenities, and a convenient downtown location makes this JW a 5-star experience. read more

Everything you'd expect from a JW Marriott -- great location downtown, excellent restaurants nearby, Starbucks in the lobby, spacious and comfortable room, with all the amenities you can imagine. Check in was quick and easy and the staff worked like a well oiled machine so there was no wait when I came in on a Friday afternoon. Loved the shower in my room, but the towels were thin and rough. I switched hotels and ended up at the Renaissance in North Austin for the remainder of the week, and the towels there were far better. But when the only complaint you have is a rough towel, life ain't so bad. The on-site parking is pretty expensive, but there aren't many decent on-street options. You'll have to drive past the valet station to get to the entrance-- when there are a lot of cars waiting to be parked, it can be kind of hard to get to the underground garage. Good news is, there are plenty of spaces available and in bad weather (like the downpours and storms during my stay), you'll be nice and dry getting from your car to your room. read more

Beautiful hotel, not elite service. We checked in after 3pm and only one of our rooms was ready. They didn't have a crib in the room like we asked or a fridge or microwave. My mom had to call three times to the front desk until they got it right for my sister and her newborn baby. The valet service was crazy. One guy said I was good to park down one way and another said I couldn't. Then on the last day there was a sign for self park and the valet stopped me and said I can't go that way. Idk why they have a sign then! It was just a terrible experience for being a gold elite member. The price for some things seemed higher than other major cities. Disappointed in Marriott since we are loyal members. Decor was beautiful & Deans Restaurant was amazing! read more

Call before going make sure you don't get a room facing construction. app. I stayed in this hotel 3 times before and the hotel is nice and has a great pool but 1. The hotel does not allow access to the elite lounge on the 5th floor to everyone anymore, only to titanium elite and in the past gold elite or greater can join. What's more is I went at 845pm and all the elite lounge staff was (4 people) talking in the stick room behind the lounge with 0 patrons in the lounge and they were mad I even knocked on the door to ask 2. Even worse! I could barely sleep all night since the room was facing a hotel that was being built Nextdoor that had construction going all night , I was on the 2x floor and it was so loud all night it sounded like the workers were having conversations outside my room. I couldn't sleep. 3. The hotel shampoo/soap/conditioner etc were all different brands as if they bought from different companies or couldn't get a set from one vendor. It was rather sad. 4. The bathroom tiling was all off in the shower. 5. I had to park in the street since the hotel said they had no available parking or I had to valet for $50/nt and that was a rip off. . Really nice modern and sleek hotel. Was displeased that I asked for a room far from the elevator and after a day of traveling, I get a room RIGHT NEXT to the elevator. Immediately changed rooms. However, room was new and clean, and I like how they give you bottles of water when you ask, and conference food was actually pretty good. Pleased they have a Starbucks in the hotel too. Get a bit loud though, and ice machine is only on the 5th floor. Had a nice social hour on the pool floor too, most of the food was good, and bartenders and staff are really friendly. read more

So I broke my foot 2 days before SXSW I had a reservation for myself and some friends but had to literally sit out on the festivities because SXSW isn't exactly a crutch friendly festival. Anyway Zach and Josh were absolutely amazing. They were helpful and super kind they went above and beyond to make sure my experience was the best it could be. This location from the rooms to Edge bar/eatery is hands down my favorite hotel in Austin. They are the reason I signed up for bonvoy points. I recently did a staycation at this hotel. It was a great experience! We stayed on the 20 floor. Rm 2008. It had a great view of the pool and of downtown Austin. Since we were elite members we were able to get a late check out. Hunter at the front desk quickly arranged a refrig and ice to be brought to the room once we asked. We needed a fan as well. Ok so we are a little high maintenance. But they were out of fans. And thankfully we travel with one. I know you saw the high maintenance comment.:-) Here are some tips to know around the hotel that you can walk too: We made dinner reservations at Vince Young Steakhouse nearby. It was a a couple blocks away. Easy peasey! And then we needed a liquor store. That was across the street. Urban Wine and liquor. Lastly we needed breakfast tacos. And we had two good options nearby I will mention Veracruz tacos and Jos coffee. We chose Jos coffee because we wanted to try a fried egg sandwich. That was delicious! read more

The JW is supposed to be a luxury brand, but it was pretty basic and not worth the points we spent on our room. The location is great, walkable to 6th street with lots of restaurants and bars close by. The room is more geared for a business traveler that just sleeps there, no personality, small bathroom, no bathtub, and single sink. The door is a sliding door, that provides no privacy. The room has a single chair with an ottoman and a desk against the wall, with no real area to relax or eat. We heard strange noises which we think was the plumbing and was annoying, another guy in the elevator had the same issue. There was construction out our window, so forget sleeping in. The lobby bar was fun, and social, with great drinks and service. The food was not really inspiring or healthy for that matter, the menu was limited Tex-Mex menu, the breakfast was pretty limited and the omelet was horrible, rubber eggs with stuff inside, more a burrito than an omelet. read more

Awesome location and just an awesome hotel! Located right off Congress Ave. which is a major street that cuts through Austin. The rooms are great, nice and clean and the shower has some crazy water pressure. The lobby was bustling especially on the weekends. You have a few dining options ... one I tried was the Corner, multiple bar areas. My fav spot was the 2nd floor where there is a Starbucks and all the conference rooms are. It's nice and quiet so if you want a spot to chill out, grab a coffee and find a spot on the couch or recliners. read more

So it gets two stars, only because the housekeeping staff was really nice and the accommodations were nice as well. They also brought us a microwave for my husband to use during our stay. Here is my list of grievances: 1. My husband made reservations and called to add a day. They made us add a second, separate reservation, provide separate documentation, and we Had to check out and check back in on the last day. 2. The elevator is extraordinarily fast. It drops quickly and nearly made my hubby lose his lunch. 3. The parking cost is RIDICULOUS!! We had a choice of paying $40/night Valet or $30/night self parking. There were very few spaces available and we had to circle for 30 minutes one night to wait on a leaving vehicle so we could park. There is a parking garage diagonal from the hotel? But it's $20/night. 4. The telephone in our room did not work. Two different people came up to look at it and NOTHING! 5. It took 30 minutes to check in. We had all kinds of hoops To Jump through.When we attempted to check out to check back in, they had lost all of our paperwork and my husband had to do it all over again--another 30 minutes! 6. The cable/satellite tv is terrible!! The TV freezes up quite frequently and you have to change the station. The screen goes black and there is sound but no picture. 7. Water pressure is insufficient. I'm sure it's for conservation purposes, but I like water pressure when I take a shower and there is no bath tub for an alternative. 8. There were pretty much no perks with the Marriott rewards. We asked for executive lounge access and were denied. We even offered to pay the difference to enjoy the perk and were told no. 9. The main entrance is cramped and the brick driveway is somewhat dangerous. There is limited access to the building--through the parking garage, main entrance, and through Corner. 10. I needed to mail some paperwork and they were unable to assist me. They sent me to Fedex, who was unable to mail to a PO Box. I had to use the business center at the convention center. 11. After all the BS we have endured this week--and paying a large chunk of cash to stay here--we have been waiting on a luggage cart and/or bellhop for nearly an hour! My husband is making a trip to the parking garage now and we are getting the hell out of here. Will I stay here again? Probably not--I was quite disappointed in this Marriott, it's service! The pool is awesome with Texas on the floor of the pool. There's a nice fitness center and rooftop lounge by the pool. There's also an accessible Starbucks, Corner restaurant, wine bar, Italian restaurant, and Congress Burger Bar easily accessible. read more
