This is a great hotel for business travel - right in the heart of UF area of Austin! Easy and quirky check in at the bar at the center of the lobby! I was upgraded prior to arrival based on my status as I basically live in Marriotts. Room is bright, quirky and modern - designed to be very minimalist with hangers and pegs on the wall instead of a closet and two small closets - one with a toilet and one with a very compact shower that reminds me why I would never want to vacation on a cruise ship! There is no bathroom just separate compartments for each with a sink in the hallway! You can pull a large shower type curtain across that part of the room for privacy. Room was quiet and very dark which I love! In keeping with the minimalist theme - there is no fridge or coffee machine in the room! You can however get free coffee downstairs and there is a grab and go fridge with snacks and drinks in the lobby. There is also a taco place in the lobby that I previously reviewed and won't return to! All was great except in the 8am hour the cleaners arrived and had loud conversations in the hallway- of course on the one day I did not have a super early start - then knocked for room service twice before I left - at 8:50am!!! I mentioned it to the front desk and the lady that was there apologized but a young guy told me that it could not have been the cleaners as they had been in a meeting and he disagreed with my discussion until two other ladies also from my floor told him the cleaners were definitely there!! I love the Moxy brand, so naturally I wanted to stay here when my boyfriend and I were driving through on our way to Houston. My car was packed as I was moving so it was important to me to book a hotel that had parking. We're both from out of state and there was a football game going on (that we weren't aware of), so it was crazy busy and the parking was a mess. I know the game has nothing to do with the hotel, however, I would imagine the hotel would have been able to anticipate the occupancy and the parking spots available. I'm not sure if they were allowing non-guests to pay and park here. We waited on the street in the car, like everyone else, for almost an hour. The valet took the car behind us before me and the car in front of us, then told us it was full. The hotel's suggestion was to look for street parking - which was impossible as everyone was there for the game, or park in the structure a block away, which said we needed a university pass to park in, so couldn't. Eventually, we asked if we could just park in the valet loading zone since the hotel parking was full and that would probably be utilized later anyway, and they let us do that. We checked in, and when we got to our room, the trash can was IN the toilet.. I'm not sure what that was even about. The room itself was fine. Moxy's usually don't have fridges, microwaves, or closets, which I am aware of. It was clean other than the trash in the toilet. Our room was also on the first floor, with the street and sidewalk out the window so we couldn't open the shades. It was also very loud. They do have a white noise machine next to the bed, so I appreciated that. The common area has a good amount of seating. There's the bar area and tables to the left with a TV. The right has a little lounge area, and they have an outside with swings and a fire pit. The staff were also very nice, which gives this place a star. Overall, while I love Moxy hotels, I will never stay at this one again. I always have a great experience with this brand, but this one wasn't it. It wasn't terrible, it's cute, the bed was clean, but it was significantly different from other hotels of this brand. It was 80,000 Marriott points to stay here (I don't remember the normal price $300-400/night) and it was not worth it. I also paid $59 for parking, which, I saw my car's location and they parked it a couple blocks away - not great when my car is filled with my moving stuff. We chose the Moxy because of how convenient it was to the stadium, and it really has a fun, catchy vibe. Check-in went smoothly, and the room was clean with plenty of amenities. I personally didn't find the bed as comfortable as my husband did, but that's just a matter of personal preference. We stayed here for 2 nights, here are the pros and cons Pros: - the lobby area is very unique and fun! They have ping pong, connect four, swings, a full bar. It has a good vibe if you're wanting a chill night in. - the staff is very courteous - the free drip coffee is very good compared to most hotel coffees - beds are very comfortable - TVs are really nice quality - Each room gets 2 free drinks from the bar (although limited to one preselected cocktail or beer) Cons - the layout of our room was impractical. They have adopted a deconstructed bathroom design. This means the shower opens directly into the bedroom. The toilet is in a small isolated room with no ventilation. This would be tolerable for a single person to stay in, but is highly impractical for a multiple occupancy stay. (The room we stayed in had 2 beds, so multiple occupancy could be assumed.) - No in-room coffee pot, mini fridge, or microwave. - The valet situation is more of an inconvenience than a luxury. First, cost is $55 per night which, if staying more than one night, greatly exceeds the money you'd save renting a cheaper room compared to other similar hotels in the area. Cost aside, you do not get what you expect from a valet service. As they only have one attendant present, you often show up to the valet station (either to drop off your car or pick it up) and no one is there to help service you. The valet actually had left our car UNLOCKED in the garage which people on the street can walk into freely. Thankfully nothing was stolen. However, the parking lot clearly posts signs saying that anything stolen is not their responsibility. So, keep in mind that you may spend $55 for a valet service that leaves your belongings susceptible to theft and there is nothing the hotel will do to compensate you. - they are sticklers for a late check out fee, even less than 10 minutes late. This could be reasonable, but it just kinda sucked extra after the valet debacle. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in a certain budget. We had other friends staying at DoubleTree or Omni, which both seem like a better deal. While their room rates are a little more expensive, they have fewer hidden fees. Moxy could be an okay place to stay if you are staying in a single room and are ubering to and from the hotel. read more

This location is located in the UT college district, north of downtown, with lots of students around the neighborhood and a few places to eat at nearby. The lobby is cool looking with a few places to relax in, as well as a large outdoor patio. Theres a couple of classic sit down video game machines (Pac-Man/Galaga) to play on. Upon check-in we didn't feel that welcomed and the front desk does not have a happy feel, like at other Moxy locations I've stayed at. I felt like a number instead of a valued customer. Further, being a Bonvoy Titanium member, I expected much better service. There's no morning breakfast buffet, only a Taco place that's attached to the lobby to order at using a terminal screen. Being a Titanium member, we had a credit for breakfast, but we had no guidance on how to use it at the taco place that made breakfast tacos and breakfast quesadillas. The Moxy front desk woman with the black hat and black mask (I could hardly make out any of her spoken words) made me feel like I was bothering her when I asked how to use our breakfast credit. Without saying much, after she investigated our account, she walked over to the taco desk and coldly asked what we wanted. She didn't even apologize for the hassle, or that she was unaware of their exact breakfast offerings, even though they were listed on a sign above. She took our order and said nothing else other than giving us an order number. Wow, what an uncomfortable encounter. If I was her manager, I would fire her on the spot for treating guests so poorly. The Moxy female bartender we encountered was decent and made us a couple of drinks, although with 80% ice. The room we staying in was clean with a separate toilet room from the shower. Oddly, the shower had no air vent, steam just went throughout the room. The TV was large, in front of the bed, but the TV interface was very slow to react to remote control commands. The A/C was quiet and efficient. The bed was uncomfortable; it felt very hard and lumpy. Given the poor front desk experience and lumpy bed, I wouldn't rush to stay here again. They really need to do a better job with certain front desk staff welcoming guests, being much more friendly, and pleasantly answering any questions or concerns. read more

Very disappointed with how this was handled. I was a regular customer at the Moxy Hotel and often ate there. The last time I visited, my food came out incorrectly--for the second time. I asked for a refund, and the manager at the time told me he would submit it to the accounting department. I never received the refund. I returned to the hotel to follow up with the same manager, and once again he told me he would send it to accounting. That was not true. When I pressed him about why my money had not been returned and why he kept saying the same thing, he became angry and threatened to call the police on me simply for asking for my refund. As a Black woman, it felt intimidating and inappropriate to have law enforcement used as a threat over a legitimate customer service issue. I did not back down, and only then did he finally give me the contact information for his boss. I went back again today to speak with another manager, hoping this would finally be resolved, but instead of correcting the issue, I was asked to jump through unnecessary hoops rather than having my refund properly handled. This entire experience was unprofessional, dismissive, and deeply frustrating. Based on how I was treated, I would caution people of color to think twice before coming here. read more

I love the vibe of this property so much. It was my first time in Austin / ATX and I think this hotel represents a lot of the area around it, the vibe and the energy of the people surrounding it. YOU CHECK-IN at the BAR! Hello!? Afterwhich, you are offered a special drink you claim right after. And then--- there's a 24-hr access to TACOS, called Zombie Tacos. Need I say more? I am in love with this brand of Marriott Hotels, it's young and fresh and for the fun-traveller & backpacker. They have a fridge in the room, but no microwave--however, they provide one for the guests in the cute common area by the bar/registration. The whole lobby is like a nice place to hang out, in the back patio there's space to chill and play jenga, several swings, fire pits, etc. Altogehter, if you decide to go, its within walking distance to everywhere in the middle of the university belt---so expect a lot of college kids. I booked a pretty last minute stay at the Moxy after my hotel canceled on me about 2 weeks before my travel date. On top of being a conference weekend, there was also a big football game happening as well as Halloween weekend, so my pickings were slim. The Moxy fit the price range and they had good reviews. Normal check in is 4pm, but I showed up around 10am hoping and praying for a room. They only had one available and it was on the first floor, close to the bar. I was concerned about noise, but it ended up being fine. I slept like a baby. Seven, who checked me in, was so nice and so helpful. She really tried to find something else for me, but that was all they had at the time. Big shoutout to her for being the best. You get a drink token when you check in, which is valid for your choice of one drink. I think the options are between 2 draft beers and 2 cocktails. I had a Suntory cocktail and it was fantastic. Bartenders were always very nice and friendly. The room is your standard Moxy room. If you're a person who likes closets, unpacking in drawers, etc. then the Moxy is definitely not for you. If you're like me and just want a clean room with good WiFi to sleep in, then the Moxy will do nicely. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and would definitely recommend it to colleagues/friends. read more

Totally stay here IF... you like bedrooms and bathrooms with no locks, broken AC units, overpriced inconvenient parking, metal folding chairs, and constant restrictions for every single thing you do. This review is for Bar Moxy and the hotel as the hotel owns the bar. This was from an experience back from 9/25/22. The female bartender that worked the Saturday night shift at Bar Moxie ruined our night out. She said things like: "I don't have time for your order" and "if you want something sweet go to another bar" . I really hope that this bar takes a hard look at the staff they hire and that they monitor how their bartenders talk to customers. Super hurtful and disappointing. read more

I don't think I have ever stayed at a hotel that vibes like Moxy. It was definitely a new and refreshing hotel experience to be checking in at a bar. We arrived on a Thursday night at around 11 pm, the place was lit with a DJ playing dance music and people hanging out. Every guest gets a token for a free drink at the Moxy bar (more free drinks in our room). The best part was to have a 24 hrs Zombie Tacos (great tacos) in the lobby to satisfy our late-night cravings!! Our hot water didn't work on the 1st night. But the staff was very friendly and helpful when we called, they also offered us a token for some Zombie Tacos as a gesture which we really appreciate. Thankfully the water was fixed the next morning. The guest room we were in was quite small, and the housekeeping definitely can do better on cleaning the room. Because of the bar and the nice courtyard area we spent a lot of time hanging out at the hotel during the night time which we thoroughly enjoyed. They have a gym with brand new equipment, great for a quick run/workout while traveling. Moxy is also at a decent location, near a handful of restaurants within walking distance because of the UT Austin Campus. We loved the vibe and will definitely come back if we ever visit Austin again and are super open to staying at other Moxy locations in the future! Hotel parking is $39 per night, but I would recommend parking on the streets nearby (6 pm - 8 am is free). read more

The rooms are small but for me the worst part is the mattress in this $270 a night room. Might as well sleep on the floor. This is the absolute worst hotel bed I have ever slept on. My back is killing me as I type this. After a minute you sink straight to the bottom. I will be checking out in the morning leaving a day early. F this hotel don't recommend one bit. The Moxy is a whole vibe! I love the aesthetic, the cool decorations, the fun patio and lounge. The beds are comfy. The shower space is weird though because you literally walk out of the shower stall and into the room. It would probably not be a place I'd share a room with someone who I was not comfortable seeing me naked in. They also seem to not do housekeeping in the rooms unless you've checked out. Stayed a couple nights and my bed was never made or my trash taken out. Decent place for a single or couple to go to, but wouldn't come with a family or with friends. read more

The only reason for the 4, was the beds weren't great and there was a good amount of street noise throughout the night (which is not a surprise due to its location). Try to grab a room that doesn't face Guadalupe. The staff were awesome! The lobby is a bar / hangout area was great, with indoor and outdoor lounging. The bar had an excellent selection of liquor, along with local beer/booze. The area is dangerous around the hotel. There is no police because they think university police will cover it and they do not and Austen please do not cover the area. Well at the bar after friendly chatting with two gentlemen I realized they were collecting information. Similarly to how they do in Barcelona and then your credit card information as swiped. The hotel was perfect. I don't know if staff is in on any of it I don't think so but who knows. I felt very Barcelona. The hotel was probably the most well run and clean so I have to give my hats off to the general manager. I forget her name unfortunately but she was great. She even helped with the pet fee that I was not aware was so high per night by the way. I will definitely come here and stay again but I would not recommend even walking by if you are alone. I was taking my dog out to use the bathroom and it felt very unsafe. I found out later there's a high attack rate on women. So if you have to stay here I most definitely would but just be aware of the people. Be aware even other people that you meet. The beds are very comfortable which is a rarity in hotels these days. read more

We had a fantastic time at the Moxy for a bachelorette weekend! While staying here, it was probably the first time I have ever actually hung out in a hotel's common/lounge areas- it was so aesthetically pleasing and a fun place to just hang. The drink token upon check-in was a really nice surprise! Very friendly staff & great vibes overall. The rooms are a little small (which you can see from their pictures online), but we were out all day, so it didn't matter. My only con, which the Moxy can't really control, is that there isn't a great location for Uber pickups/drop offs. There is a small pickup/drop off zone on the side of the building, but it was usually full. We had to meet our drivers across the street at the gas station, which wasn't ideal, but could have been worse. read more

Such an amazing hotel! This is my 3rd time at this location, 4th at a Moxy overall. Love the vibe and experience. Well up until now. AC is very inconsistent. Something to do with the energy saving. Room lights turn off automatically if the sensor doesn't catch movement. So laying in bed reading a book.. Will be cut short. Sadly there is no mini refrigerator in the rooms. UPDATE: they kicked us out of our room and told us to find somewhere else to stay after I posted this review. This hotel is a joke. We booked through booking.com and paid the $220 charge prior to arriving. When we got here, they tried to charge our debit card an additional $220 and told us that they never received payment. They refused to call booking.com and sort out the miscommunication between the hotel and booking.com. Instead of being professional and customer oriented, they made US sort it out ourselves. We were told to stay at the desk for over an hour. They refused to lift a finger. The rooms are also smaller than a standard restroom in a traditional house. The customer service is literal garbage. I grew up in the hospitality industry and stay at hotels CONSTANTLY. This hotel is one of the worst ones I've ever had the displeasure of staying at. Another note: they charge $50/night for parking in their garage and there is no where else to park. read more

I first need to say this place is all about location. It is literally across the the street from the university and on the main drag for restaurants and bars. If you can which I did just get Uber to hotel and everything is walking distance. Avoided car problems as this is a city with horrible parking problems. I stayed on second floor never had problem with sound from bar like people said. Room had almost black out shades. Now for my problems and My recommendations 1 mattress in room is pillow style 6" mattress on top of hard platform I box spring and it is not a memory foam. Box springs are for mattresses like this or change them out and put memory foam so they work on hard piece of wood. ( ow my back)! 2 storage hooks and no drawers for clothing yes I don't want to hook my underwear! 3 towel hooks are not meant for towels they are for hangers. Need to change them(really minor) This location allows dogs and saw really cute puppy while I was there. I can say if the mattress and pillows where fixed with Marriott standard quality pillows and mattress I would have given 5 stars. Please fire the designer for the rooms he went fir aesthetics instead of comfort. read more

This Bar is quite the exotic experience, they go above and beyond to make this an ideal club experience during the weekend evenings. Especially Halloween!!! Let's talk about that! They are incredibly creative and know to make a drink. The back area is probably the best in terms of social activities and hanging out with your crew. Now let's get to those bathrooms....PRISTINE. Yes! I love. It normally has a nice aroma throughout the room, and the mirrors have some fantastic lighting. I'm a big sucker for large sinks so this place already does it for me. I actually understand the poor reviews, this hotel may not be for everyone because you can definitely hear the bar music from the second floor where we stayed. However, I did not mind it at all and to my surprise, even my children enjoyed the space. So if you're looking for a quiet place to catch some rest, I suggest finding another hotel, but if you're looking to have a fun and have a "different" hotel experience, I think this is a great spot. I had a great night sleep, so the noise didn't bother me personally. Our double Queen room was a bit small, but the space had multiple hooks on the wall for your belongings to have your room still feel tidy. There taco shop near the bar was so good and I appreciated the self-checkout option for snacks and food. I also woke up early to use the gym and loved their new equipment they had. At one point I saw employees cleaning/sanitizing the elevator to keep up with safety concerns for guests and I really appreciated that. We were never prompted reserve a parking spot when booking.
