My husband and I reserved a wedding block at the JW Marriott and we couldn't have been happier. Even though we didn't have the actual wedding there (and there was another wedding going on there that weekend) they were very accommodating to us and all of our guests. The suite was beautiful and comfortable. We even decided to stay an extra night after the wedding. The staff was friendly and attentive. Such a lovely hotel! The sheets are super soft. They have berry-infused water in the lobby and complimentary bottles in your room. During housekeeping, the cleaning person arranged my makeup items on a hand towel on the sink. The layout is great, the channel selection is wonderful. The staff could not be more prompt and helpful. The closet, sleeping area and bathroom were incredibly spacious. And I don't know if it's the same in every room, but the lavender scented bath products were just heavenly. Why only four stars after such a rave review? Okay, so kind of awkward, but I was way too short for this hotel room. I am 5 feet tall and I had to stand on tip toes to wash my face in the sink. And the mirrors are outlined with a light, so that when I looked in the mirror without standing on a stepstool (I don't think it was an actual stepstool, more like an additional towel rack), the light would make it hard to see. So one star off for that. But if you are not super short like me, I'm sure you'll find this place a five star experience. read more

It's supposed to be a four star hotel, but the carpeting in the rooms is old and dirty. The cabinets are falling apart. The duvets on the bed are old. The mattresses are old. Basically the place is falling apart on the inside. The restaurant they rave about has maybe one vegetarian thing on the menu is a salad if that. Beautiful Property! Clean and Classy! We only stayed in this hotel for one night, our only complaint is we wished we arranged our stay were a little longer! The room was beautiful, had a spacious bathroom with great lighting, and a large walk-in shower. The room itself was about average size, with a large flat screen tv and big bay windows, beautiful window and wall treatments. The real treat was the bed, soooo comfortable!!! As other reviewers have stated, the mini bar fridge is very very expensive. I recommend valet parking your vehicle and walking/taking cabs to your downtown destinations if possible. The JW Marriott is a very nice, traditional hotel in Chicago's Loop (aka business district). I stay in a lot of hotels and, while it's clean and comfortable, it's not a 5 (yelp) star hotel. The location is ideal, only if you're in Chicago for business. If you're traveling here for leisure - immediately look for another hotel in River North / Streeterville (aka The Peninsula, Waldorf Astoria, or Park Hyatt). As a New Yorker, this hotel feels HUGE. The lobby, the conference level, the hallways, everything felt BIG to be in the center of a metropolis. One aspect of the rooms that I appreciated were the bathrooms - they were big, had a separate water closet and dual vanities, and a proper stand-up shower with rain head. Very nice. The bedroom was standard - nice quality materials, but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, this is clearly a business persons hotel...not somewhere you come for a luxurious, relaxing vacation. As the flagship Marriott property it feels like just that - a Marriott that's a little fancier. The Marriott brand isn't about luxury or opulence and you won't find that at the JW. That said, it's a very comfortable place to stay on business and I choose it over the W Chicago because it's more comfortable for business travel. read more

Wow! What a great experience. Great staff!! I would say that the training problems that Maurice had experienced have more than been resolved. I felt like everyone went out of their way to get us whatever we needed. Besides the rooms and main areas being so beautiful, the staff is what made our trip! Every single staff member greeted or addressed you as you went about the hotel. From the doorman to the room attendants. I felt very cared for and relaxed my whole stay. The Valeo Spa in the LL of the hotel was even better. Jacia and Kate sealed our stay over the phone with their unparalleled professionalism and customer service; and I am very glad we ended up there. Each of us in our group of 4 received a customized treatment. We were all completely satisfied with both the price and the service. The gym was one of the best I have seen in a hotel. We stayed here for a night when we attended a wedding held at the hotel and I have to say we were very pleased. PROS: The room is very spacious. We had a room with a king size bed. There was a chair and ottoman in the corner of the room and there was still lots of room to move around. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. As we walked around the hotel, there wasn't a single staff member that didn't have a smile and a greeting for us. Comfy robes! There were nice, plush robes hanging in the closet. This was wonderful. We had checked in early in order to get ready for the wedding. Having the robes there saved us from having to get dressed too early and possibly ruining our clothes. The bathroom - WOW! A lighted mirror, nice deep bathtub, separate, all-glass shower and a toilet "closet" - and there was still lots of room for two people to get ready at the same time. CONS: Only one - the view. I don't know if all of the rooms have the same view, but our view was overlooking a roof and other rooms. If anyone had their shades open, we could have seen right in and seen all of their business. All in all - this is a wonderful hotel with wonderful staff. We would highly recommend it! read more

We wanted a double bed room for 2 adults and 2 kids and they accommodated us right away. concierge and other staff were friendly. We realized that it wasn't the best location for our purpose. Next time I would go to Marriott Magnificient miles for the same price.It is less luxury but a better location. This hotel is in the financial district. Beautiful lobby and a very friendly/helpful staff. The guest room is a bit smaller than I expected, but the bathroom - complete w/ separate soaking tub and shower - is exquisite. Ordering room service is a snap and service is prompt. Good food. GREAT dessert (we ordered the Chicago Blackout, which apparently is a brownie but tasted like a block of soft fudge). I like how the staff will telephone your room to confirm delivery and ask if there is anything else they can do or bring you. Breakfast-wise, the vanilla pancake was a letdown. Too firm and dense. Didn't check out any of the amenities like fitness center or spa but would definitely book again for a romantic weekend or stay-cation. read more

I would like to say that I enjoyed my stay at this Hotel but the customer service completely ruined it for me. JW Marriott had charged my credit card for multiple transactions that they did not explain to me what they were for. I called and was curious to see what these transactions were for and was told that I paid "less than what I was supposed to" for the hotel room and that they could "charge my card more if I'd like." FULL ON ATTITUDE. I've worked in customer service my whole life. Last thing I would want to do is make someone's job harder than it is. So I was very shaken up when the attitude had came out because I was being so nice. Anyways, I'm guessing JW Marriott thought it was okay to run my card for multiple transactions and not communicate to me what they were for. Instead I was read back a list of false payments and was threatened to be charged more. I do not want anything out of this review, I'm just wanting to warn others who value communication because this hotel definitely isn't the place to go for that. This issue was definitely not resolved. I'm currently just waiting to see if the payments actually go through and to see if they charged my card even more money. To be specific there was 500+ of charges that WERE NOT communicated to me on what it was for. Please keep track of all your transactions while staying at this hotel. read more

Always a great stay at a higher tier Marriott. Not exactly the Ritz Carlton, but very close in service and hospitality. As a Platinum Elite member, I enjoyed the complimentary room upgrade and felt like my stay mattered to them. That means a lot. When staying in hotels 150-200 nights a year, you learn that it's the little things that count and the people's attitudes. This place was excellent. Would recommend when in Chicago. read more

Stayed at the JW last weekend. The hotel is amazing. Very spacious, beautiful hotel. It location is very central to the business district and subways. I took the blue line from O Hare and walked 2 blocks to the hotel. Rooms were VERY clean and the had everything you could ask for. I like a quiet room so I asked for one that faced the inner courtyard. This avoids hearing the traffic in the morning and evening. I used the internet here without any problems and they even had in room Ethernet cables allowing for a faster connection speed. The service was excellent. People called me by name and were not just doing it to kiss up. They really were happy to help. I used the concierge twice. Very helpful and un pretentious. Especially when I asked where the Chicago list of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives were located in relation to the hotel. The spa in the basement is very clean and well appointed. The attendants were thoughtful and ready to assist wherever needed. The spa has a unique "clarity chamber" which consists of radiant heat tables similar to what you would find in Turkey. The treatment was good except that the table became very hot one it was wet during a scrub. All in all I would HIGHLY recommend this property. read more

World class all the way! The moment you step out of your vehicle you are greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is beautiful! The rooms are super clean and nicely decorated. BEST part...it was VERY quiet and the beds ultra deluxe with a VERY comfortable pillow top mattress, luxurious, high quality linens (and I'm a sheet snob) that didn't reek of bleach, down pillows and down comforter. I have a difficult time sleeping on most hotel mattresses that seem more like slabs of concrete than a mattress but at JW Marriott it was sweet dreams and no need for taking pain medication upon waking. The bathroom was spacious with a very large walk in shower and HUGE soaking tub. We will certainly stay there again when in Chicago. read more

JW Marriott was a great home base during my GI meetings in Chicago. The location was good for commuting to the Convention Center. The hotel staff were available when you wanted, but out of the way when you just wanted to get in and out. I am a bit biased in that I was able to upgrade and had a concierge level room overlooking the Willis Tower. read more

The hotel is beautiful. The downside was bed bugs. I woke up the next morning with bites all over my face and neck. At first it looked like a rash. It wasn't until later that afternoon that it became clear they were bites. I would have expected better control in such a grand facility. First time staying here in Chicago... First of, when you walk into the lobby, it is a beautiful, large, modern hotel.... Huge entrance way and floor, lounge area, bar etc. Beautiful and modern and big... Not tacky in the least. Check in is in the back, no wait for my friends and I. Check in s super fast and they are really friendly... We all got free room upgrades. My room is beautiful... Looks like three NYC Apts! Long entrance way with a HUGE bathroom... Double doors open up to the vanity with lighted mirrors, and a full size soaking tub on the left, and about twenty feet away is the walk in shower and private bathroom on the right. Room itself is clean with really comfortable beds and pillows. View faces south to see the beautiful city. All in all, a really wonderful hotel read more

Beware Brides-To-Be if you're planning to stay here for the day of and get ready here!!! You might get more stress than you bargained for. When I made the reservation for a luxury suite for our wedding, I requested 6am check in and was told it shouldn't be a problem. When I called to confirm the reservations a week prior to our wedding, I was also assured there were no problems. I reiterated multiple times each call that I was using the room for our wedding day and needed it at the time requested because my bridesmaids and I needed to get ready in the room and we were doing a part of our traditional ceremonies in the room early in the morning. Upon our arrival, NO ROOMS were available. The staff were not accommodating and blamed us for not renting out the room the night before since we needed it so badly. We had to literally beg for a regular room to start getting ready in. We were told that a couple rooms had checked out but the cleaning staff won't get to them until 8am. We called the front desk multiple times and made multiple trips to check on the process. A manager got annoyed and told us the cleaning staff doesn't starting work until 9am and doesn't know when they'll get to ours but it was considered priority. We didn't get into our room until 10am and the traditional ceremonies were scheduled to start at 11am. Of all the stresses on a wedding day, getting into our reserved room should not have been one of them. In my book, and many other brides I assume, the hotel room should be one of the most dependable things on the day of. Instead, we were greeted by staff that were unaccommodating, unsympathetic and gave us a bit of attitude. For causing all the needless stress by MAJORLY putting a dent in our schedule on one of the most important days of our lives, we'd expect to at least get some sort of offer to compensated or our troubles....nothing. After a lot of back and forth with an unfeeling blond manager (forgot her name), our room was slightly discounted. When we requested a late check out, a staff member told us the latest they could do was 1pm.....an additional hour. I like the decor and cleanliness of the hotel but our bad experience has definitely left a sour note on our day and the hotel. My photographer is fully booked every year and she said she's NEVER had a bride that didn't have the room ready for them. Frankly, I'm surprised that an established hotel such as JW MARRIOTT would let such a mishap occur. We partly booked our night here was because we assumed that something like this wouldn't happen. For over $500 a night, no one should be treated this way. One time in NY, we had to wait 1/2 hour for a room on a REGULAR visit and we were offered unlimited food and beverage at the restaurant during our stay along with spa packages. NOTHING was offered at JW MARRIOT, only half hearted apologies and BLAME!!! I hope no other brides have to experience this. One top of that, I just discovered (via Chicago Tribune) that people contracted Legionnaires Diesease around the time of our stay and we weren't informed at all. read more

what a fabulous hotel. 1 - its gorgeous. its a new hotel in an old building and if you look carefully at the windows, you can see that they installed new ones right behind the old ones. everything is very pretty and very clean. i was only there for a day so didn't get to use the facilities, but the lobby has lime/lemon flavored water and plenty of seating and tables if you're waiting for someone or need to have a discussion. and if you order something from the lobby bar and they don't have something you want, they'll whip something together for you. 2 - the staff is great. from the bellhops to doormen to the people who check you in. my manager dropped off my bag for me and when I went to get it, there was no tag and the bell hop was asking me to name things in the bag so I could prove the bag was mine. he then accompanied me upstairs to see if my bag was in my room in the case that i have a huge freakout about losing my stuff. 3 - the rooms are pretty high tech - you can plug in your computer (sadly not ipads yet) into the computer and use the keyboard and mouse (on the remote, weird i know) and work with the huge lg tv. there is a dock/alarm clock for ipods/iphones and they provide cords to plug in your computers as well. and apparently if you want to change from the music to your computer to the tv, there's some button to press. the rooms are very luxurious - the robes are super luxe, i'm thinking of getting one for my apartment actually. the curtains are so good at blocking at light that i kept thinking that the sun wasn't out yet, despite it being well past 7am. bathrooms have lighting mirrors, nice bath/shower, oh and are larger than most.bath products could be better though, still prefer the ones at four seasons the best, i'm such a snob. minus: - no free wifi! i still can't believe charge for wifi, weak signal at best. - not many hd channels and the tv setup was a bit too complicated for me. - be careful of the mini fridge! they will do automatic deductions if you move anything. still minuses are not enough to ruin this experience. wish i could had stayed longer! read more
