Fresh ingredients with tons of flavor. The fries were also crispy and flavorful. Unfortunately we showed up right after brunch had ended but nonetheless they let us hangout till we done. Hotel/resort food is generally expected to not be the best, but there were zero complaints about this meal - and honestly exceeded expectations. Steak was cooked to a perfect rare as requested and incredibly tender. The red chimichurri it came with was also delicious. The calamari was breaded well and crispy, with a nice aioli as well. First things first, rest in peace JWB. Went to Margaritaville Resort in Palm Springs as a quick staycation over the weekend and made reservations at the JWB grill inside the resort. The ambiance was as to be expected for a Margaritaville property, not upscale by any means but very laidback with a lot of tropical themed decor. I would say this restaurant is for sure best for families and a more casual dining experience. I wouldn't recommend bringing a date here as there are much more romantic choices in Palm Springs. The food itself was good but for the price I was expecting more. As a starter, my wife and I ordered the calamari ($14), it was nice and crunchy but had a lot of breading. We also shared the 20oz bone-in ribeye ($55) with a side of broccolini ($10) and mashed Yukon potatoes ($10). We requested the steak to be medium-rare but it really came out more medium. It had an okay flavor but wasn't savory enough. The broccolini was pretty good, says it was grilled but didn't really have any char but it was saved by all the garlic and butter added. The mashed potatoes were okay but wasn't flavorful enough. Overall, I would say everything about JWB Grill is just okay. I feel it could really do more to match the quality and ambiance of many of the surrounding restaurants in Palm Springs, especially at the price point of $20-$50 per plate. Our server seemed uninterested, forgetting to refill our waters or check on us, and our meals arrived a bit haphazardly. While the food was decent but overpriced for the taste or presentation, only the freshly baked bread truly good. Also, despite arriving on time for our reservation, we still had to wait a bit longer than expected in an empty restaurant, which felt frustrating. Overall, it seems like there's room for better management and attention to detail. Oh ya, they charged an 18% tip by default, which was more than what they deserved. Orginally, we made reservations on OpenTable. The menu on OpenTable had a few dishes that interested us. When we arrived at JWB (located in the Margaritaville Hotel,) they were offering a buffet only. This was for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner buffet selection was somewhat limited. There were a few meat options, pasta station, cold salads and desserts. Regular menu was scheduled to return the next week. Beef short ribs were tender. Sauce really permeated into the meat. Sauce on the Tuscan fish would be delicious on pasta. It was creamy, garlicy and herb forward. The fish itself was way overcooked. Roasted vegetables were prepared to maintain some firmness. They had a lovely char to them. Salad bar items were fresh. Desserts were not refilled during our visit. By the time I went to eat dessert, variety was about half of what was in the picture I took. Coffee tarts had a vibrant espresso flavor. Lemon bars were a bit chalky. I chose one with raspberry on top. The fresh raspberry ended up being the sweet item to the tart lemon. There was a time when my husband and I got up at the same time. In the couple of minutes we were gone, they completely cleared our table. I'm talking dishes, silverware and drinks. We hadn't even paid or been presented with the check. A little kink they may want to iron out if they decide to offer the buffet full time. read more

The JWB Grill was a HUGE surprise and one of the best meals I've had in a long time. My husband and I spent a night at the Margaritaville Resort and after a long day, didn't feel like going off property to look for a place to eat. With very little expectations, we headed to the JWB Grill on site and we were warmly welcomed by the hostess. Our excellent service continued the second we sat down until the second we left the restaurant. Our server went above and beyond, was attentive, and efficient. Aside from the phenomenal service, the food was FANTASTIC. Our order consisted of several appetizers to share (with an expectations of leftovers to take back to the room): - Fried Calamari: Coated and fried perfectly. The dipping sauce was outstanding. Had a little kick, but nothing overpoweringly spicy. - Blue Crab Dip: My favorite from the whole order. Loaded with crab that was the perfect, creamy texture. Came with crispy bread strips that complemented the dip well. - French Onion Soup: The best I've had in a long time. the thick ring of cheese and loads of onions in the flavorful broth were to die for. Picture perfect! - Caesar Salad: Fresh romaine lettuce coated with a nice layer of caesar dressing. - Frozen Strawberry Margarita Everything was phenomenal! We talked about the meal into the next day and beyond. We were expecting a mediocre, overpriced meal at the hotel cafe, but we got something outstanding from the service to the food. We would revisit the JWB Grill in a heartbeat the next time we're in Palm Springs whether we are staying at the Margaritaville Resort or not. Very fortunate to have found this gem! read more

The service was terrible. I have a lot of food sensitivity and typically I order off the kids meal because they are simpler dishes and I tried to order a cheese pizza and was denied because I wasn't younger than 12. Only place I have ever been to that sticks to that rule, but I then asked what the veggie burger was made out of and she told me it was a black bean patty which would've been perfect, so I order mostly plain, would've just been black beans, bun, and onion, however when it came it was mostly chick peas and quinoa and tomato with a few black beans sprinkled in. Super upsetting the server didn't know and didn't ask if she was unsure. Another person in our party ordered bread as an appetizer and it didn't come out until dinner came out. Not to mention dinner took an hour, which would've been fine if the server communicated the wait was longer than expected but she never came to check on our table. We were waiting on refills and wanted to order more cocktails but she would walk the opposite direction of our table. There was also a hair in on persons drink, although they did remake it it is the initial fact there was a hair is so gross. We had to ask another server to ask our server to come over and give the bill because she literally was non existent and we asked to speak to a manager and when a different server came to help he was so understanding and comped 50% of our tab. It was nice that the other server was understanding of our experience and discounted the meal but the experience especially being a bachelorette party dinner was disappointing to say the least. read more

Im torn writing this review but the service from nighttime to morning is literally that day and night difference. On New Year's Eve the host gentleman lured us in and was very nice and attentive as was the waitress .. the blue crab appetizer was delicious and the steak frites was one of the best cuts I have ever tasted.. juicy and tender with red chimichurri New Year's Day there was no host so we seated ourselves as there were other customers seated.. after a few minutes of being ignored I asked the bartender if I can order food at 10:30 am and he said no Just no .. something about a buffet they were setting up but did not even offer takeout. Was the buffet a private event orrr was it for guests at the hotel.. haha idk basically told us to leave in a room full of people .. it was humiliating. Left hungry and upset and a great memory for the first day of the new year. Got 7-11 pizza from across the street for breakfast.. crazy right read more

Came for dinner, 3 adults, 5 kids. Had reservations and were seated promptly. Sat out on the patio which is beautiful and very pleasant. Waters came out pretty quick but server didn't show up for at least 15min. We ordered and then waited 45min for our food. Quite a long wait since it wasn't very busy. The bussers came out with the food but the kitchen forgot to make one of the kids burgers and a French onion soup. They also forgot the spoon for the other soup. We let them know and then they all disappeared. 15min later they brought the kids burger and a spoon but it was literally for stirring creamer in coffee. They apologized and said they couldn't find the soup spoons. We actually laughed at how small they were. 5min later (1hr30min after ordering) the missing soup finally came out. The server was completely unapologetic and didn't seem to care whatsoever. The 2 star is simply because of the ambiance and everyone seemed to like the food (jwb burger and chicken sandwich were tasty). We like the hotel and pools and only came to the restaurant to eat because it was convenient but won't be coming back to eat when we stay here again. read more

I honestly can't remember a worse dining experience than dining at the JBW Grill/Palm Springs this week. When we arrived, no host was present to greet or to seat us. Our cocktails took an unbelievably long time (and oddly, were brought to us one at a time, and yet right after one another). My husband's salad and fries were fine but my veggie burger was an abomination. It was like a patty shaped pile of mush on a bun. It was so thick and so mushy (and way over-seasoned with cumin) it did not resemble a burger in any way. I would never have ordered such a thing had I known. There are perfectly good meat substitute patties in the world. Why attempt to create a new one that bears no resemblance to the thing it attempts to replace? It seems that the creator never bothered to taste their creation for themself. Oh, and our server disappeared after dropping off our check so we also had to wait an extraordinarily long time to pay. What should have been a relaxing evening just left us grumpy. On a positive note, the flatware was excellent with a good weight and proportion. read more

French onion soup the top was burned and the steak and fries... good luck cutting it with no steak knife. The sauce that came with the steak was terrible something between smoked salsa and bbq sauce was miles removed from anything fresh. We loved this place!!! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It is inside the hotel. They have a full bar with yummy signature cocktails. I had the Jamaica mistaica and it was awesome! Essentially a Trader Vic's Mai tai. The food was out of this world too! We had the Steak Frittes and it was done to perfection with shoestring fries and chimicurri sauce. This food was so good we went back the next day to have the 20oz. Ribeye which came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Also amazing!!!! Everything we had from the poolbar was outstanding as well. We were treated like kings and enjoyed everything. We ate dinner here last night. Problems started with getting seated. We were told there was a wait, so we stood at the door (there is nowhere to sit while you wait for a table). The hostess eventually came out and told us our table was ready. As we were walking to the table, however, she discovered our table had been taken. We don't know if these people came in and seated themselves or if another staff member seated them, meaning there was no communication among the staff that we had been standing there waiting for that table for at least 15 minutes, but either way, our table was now occupied. So we got seated way on the other side. There was live music, one of the main reasons we decided to eat there, and we were now behind the band, looking at their backs the whole time. The musicians were really talented, but they only played for a very short amount of time and that was the end of the music for the night. There were no other bands. The music started after we were seated, and it was over before our food arrived. The vibe of this place was also very different than we expected. This was Saturday night in Margaritaville, and it was very mellow, I would even say boring. We figured this was because we are here during the off-season, but who knows. The food was good but took forever. Pretty much what I expect at a hotel restaurant, the food just inexplicably takes way too long to arrive. I got the Korean style ribs, which were really good, but my partner got the burger, and it was a huge mess. She spent most of the meal trying to eat it with a fork because the bottom bun disintegrated and it was impossible to eat with her hands. In my opinion, the meals are also overpriced for what you get. The ribs were $30 and came only with a side of pineapple slaw. If you want a starch of some kind, you have to order a large $10 side designed to be shared with the table. Our server was very nice and attentive during the first half of the meal but unfortunately disappeared during the second half. We finally had to ask a different server if she could please find him so we could order dessert (to go) and pay our tab. We got the chocolate lava cake, which was fine. For this experience, we paid $100 plus tip. I would not go here again. read more

JWB (John Wayne Bobbitt?). Went by to eat there, and saw there was a little bit of wait to be seated at the table, so we decided to dine at the bar. Bartender was courteous and drinks were okay. However, my companion was a petite person and the foot rail at the bar kept the bar stool from getting closer to the bar counter, thus making it hard for her to comfortably dine. I then noticed an empty table, in the dining area. I went back to the concierge, explained and asked her if we can be seated in the dining area as table becomes available. The lady looks at my girl, agrees with me and tells me that they will let me know when I can move. Soon after, one, two and three tables became empty, with now, no one waiting to come in to the restaurant. I then went back and asked the same lady if I we can occupy one of the empty tables. She replies, "I was not authorized to let it out". At this point, any experienced worker or anyone with common sense would say, "let me find out for you". Her answer confirmed that people at this restaurant had no interest in assisting their customers. It's Palm Springs after all, a place where people come to relax and rest. Nothing can spoil it more than a poor customer service from an over priced restaurant. As the food came out, I told the bartender to charge me for my meal, and will pay, because I was not there to get free food. But send it back because, I will not even touch it, will leave the restaurant instead. Bartender said he would get a manager to help, I told him not to, because what's the point? This is the service that reflects Manager's daily instructions. Service and food standard here is low, because this is what managers allow. Finally they gave me a table while other two still remained unoccupied. Needless to say, food was terrible. Crab artichoke dip was too soggy and smelled fishy, usual indicator for crustacean not being fresh. Steak was way over cooked and salmon was a waste. Especially after their service (lack there of) ruined my night and left a bad taste in my mouth. If you are in the area, opt for other eateries in the area. Don't make the same mistake as I. I went against my instinct to write this on my regular column, just Yelped instead. Never ever again will I come back to Margaritaville or JWB. read more

Forgot to take pictures because the food was so good! Horrible on our last, we came in about 45 minutes until closing time, but we were still seated and the staff was very attentive. We ordered the Peruvian ceviche, French onion soup, Steak Frites, and Chicken Mole.... They were all incredible! The ceviche was different than Mexican style ceviche or what we were used to and it was very tasty. The steak was perfect and the mole had a really nice earthy flavor. I also ordered a couple espresso martinis which were very good. If you are staying here, definitely give this place a try! read more

we arrived at 6 PM for a 6 PM reservation. We were told our reservation has been canceled. I made the reservation the day before on OpenTable and did not cancel it. Someone in the restaurant canceled it. Why I don't know. They found us a table outside. We ordered a cocktail and as soon as the cocktails arrived, we ordered burgers. It took 45 minutes for the burgers to arrive. They were good once we got them. My dinner companion wanted mayonnaise and he had to ask for it three times before it finally appeared. He then asked for a root beer and was told root beer was not available despite being on the menu and then the server said, would you like a Dr Pepper? My dinner companion said no. she brought the Dr Pepper anyway and it was not good Dr Pepper as there was too much syrup and not enough soda water. While the burgers were good, the service was abysmal, and the menu is so so. We went there because we were seeing a show at Margaritaville that night. We won't be back to the restaurant. If you are going to see a show at Margaritaville and want to go out to dinner,go elsewhere. There are several good restaurants in the neighborhood with better food, better service, and more reasonable prices. read more
