First time since the old soul food place moved out. The service was good the lady was nice. I got the catfish and shrimp platter. It was seasoned well. With green beans and mac and cheese. Pretty good.

Outstanding customer service. Very friendly and ensured we as a customer were satisfied. The food was freshly prepared. Here's what we ordered and our rating. *Fried Catfish * Fried Red Snapper * Fried okra * Potato Salad * Biscuit (a mixture of cornbread and a hush puppy) * Grits * wings and fries The stars on the menu are the freshly fried fish. The restaurant looks like it serves as an event venue as well.

This is a hidden gem! Phenomenal food! Friendly owner greeted us! Huge portions! I had the fried catfish and shrimp! So tasty and not greasy at all. My green beans and Mac and cheese were delish! Highly recommend this place!

After a long flight from KCMO to Washington D.C./Virginia, my cousin and I stumbled upon this restaurant in our search for some soul food. The owner was very friendly, warm and had great customer service. The space is open and roomy. They have games at every table to occupy you while you wait. The food was amazing, delicious - great seasoning, great breading on the fish, the wings were seasoned and coated in a spicy sweet bbq sauce and the grits were flavorful and creamy.

I was looking for a soulful restaurant in the area so I found this place on yelp when I came in the owner greeted me gave me a complementary drink. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. I even bought some dessert. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but I only got only hope but so much and I will definitely come back again. I recommend this restaurant if you're in the area or not too far please come out and check it out.

I'm shocked how empty this place is for how amazing the food is. We happened to find this spot online when our original dinner destination unexpectedly closed early. We were craving fish fry and this place served. We ordered a couple platters of catfish and whiting along with some sides. Both fish were breaded and fried perfectly. Super flakey inside and crispy on the outside. The shrimp was so crispy and crunchy you can eat it whole tail and all. I haven't had enough collard greens to make an assessment of what is considered good as a baseline but I enjoyed them! Sweet potato fries were thick and crisp. Fried green tomatoes were also delicious. Grits were very cheesy, the biscuit was also pretty good. Sauce bar was a bit lacking as some bottles were empty. But we made do with what was there. Staff was very kind and patient while we were figuring out our order. Also checked in on us to make sure we were ok. This spot is a bit further from home but we will definitely return to try more of the menu. Good fish fry is a rarity in Northern Virginia, and this place is a gem.

One of those places that's better dine-in than takeout or ubereats. The collards were good but the flavor was surface. The Mac and cheese had great flavor but had a weird gritty texture to it, also was very runny. The French fries didn't have any salt. The wings would have been better fresh and still crispy, the sauce is good but the wings were soggy by the time I got them. The biscuits definitely tasted more like Jiffy but were still very tasty. The black eyed peas tasted like they were made by someone's great-aunt, a good thing btw. The whiting was tasty and flaky and had a good crunch. We didn't get any of our requested sauces though.

situated where the the 'Johnny Ray's Sultry Soul Food' used to be, is now JW's Fish & Biscuits. I was sad to hear when Johnny Ray's shut down, but I didn't know a new restaurant emerged from the ashes. JW's is new to town & boy are they something. We ordered a platter of catfish (2 pieces) - comes with corn bread + 2 sides (coleslaw & candied yams) and a poboy, the poboy came with french fries - weren't that great honestly. I think if they did shoestring fries would've been better. the poboy itself was good though! the platter of catfish was freaking delicious! well breaded & seasoned. the catsfish itself was amazing. the candied yams were my favorite side. I can't wait to come back & try out their other menu items. Chef Dennis (owner) even came up to us to check in to see how our food turned out! he gave me a brief run down on the history of the restaurant & he's just an overall sweet guy!

Wasn't aware Loudoun had a southern/soul food place until I saw it on Yelp. Checked it out tonight and am so glad I did. Ordered the sampler platter with fried catfish, shrimp, collards, candied yams and a biscuit. While I was waiting on my order I grabbed a bottle of hot sauce thinking I might need it since I typically put it on fried fish and shrimp. Let me just say the flavor was so good I didn't need the hot sauce. Food comes out fresh and hot - fried to perfection. The cornbread biscuit had good flavor as did both sides - especially the yams. I will be back to try other items on the menu. And contrary to some reviews, the inside was not dirty. Check this place out if you are a fan of soul food!!

Turkey wings, rice and gravy. Candied yams, cabbage, biscuit

Location is a bit tucked away but well worth finding. Decided to try the turkey wings I kept seeing all over his social pages. The portion was huge.. AND it came with two additional sides. You have a choice of one or two wings, so just order two bc the difference in price was a no-brainer to just get two. All food came out piping hot, and was very tasty. Some days you may want a home cooked meal w/on having to turn on your stove or be in a swanky spot just for good grub. I left full with leftovers if I want a nibble later. Chef Dennis is VERY personable and makes sure you are happy with your order... he's even happy to take a pic with you. Also found out how passionate he is about allergy free desserts, which shows even more extent to why he loves making magic in the kitchen... Will return to try more soon.

Heirloom - This was REALLY tasty!

Like Trios, but even better. Get ready for a bunch of superlatives…read more.. This place has some similarities to Trios in Merrifield. Both Heirloom and Trios are attached to--and share a kitchen with--a Roadhouse Grill, and all of them are owned by the same parent company. However, Heirloom is much smaller, which I suspect makes it easier to control quality. Based on my experiences--one visit here and many visits to Trios over the years--the quality of just about everything is better at Heirloom. My meal consisted of their Smoked Manhattan, the Burrata salad, and the Heirloom Burger. (The burger was so good that they named the restaurant after it!) The Manhattan was one of the best Manhattans I've ever had. It had a wonderfully mellow, balanced flavor that edged toward sweet, despite being made with rye. Maybe it was the aroma--and eventual taste--of the large toasted marshmallow suspended over my glass where the cherry would normally go? I guess, to be sure, I'll have to go back and order another. The Burrata did what all great burratas do: each bite felt like a mouthful of sunshine. The cheese, tomatoes, arugula, and balsamic vinaigrette combined to create pure culinary happiness. The only better burrata I can recall was at Mikrolimano in Athens. However, once you factor in travel time and parking, Heirloom is definitely the better value. The Heirloom Burger was absolutely delicious. This past week I've been waxing poetic about burgers because one of the Hackney's restaurants back home is closing after 70 years, so emotionally, I'm not prepared to bestow any new burger honors just yet. However, check back in a few weeks, and you may very well see this review updated to say that the Heirloom Burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Other logistics... The service was OUTSTANDING. We were seated right at our reservation time, greeted warmly by several staff members, and waited on nearly hand and foot by Alex. She explained the menu, helped us select our beverages, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the meal. It was attentive service without ever feeling intrusive. Parking is free after 5 and on weekends in a multi-story garage about half a block away. Happy hour is 5-7. They call Heirloom a speakeasy, but it feels more like a small restaurant with an eight-stool bar and a few high-tops. It's intimate compared with the Roadhouse, but not exactly speakeasy-intimate. And, finally, Heirloom is inside Roadhouse. You walk down a hallway, turn left into a very short hallway, open an unmarked door, and then go through a second door marked only by a red rose on the handle. I suspect the obscure entrance is their justification for calling it a speakeasy. But with food and service this good, they can call it whatever they like.

The mac and cheese had a nice flavor, but the cheese sauce wasn't melted well. It sort of clumped off the pasta. The baked beans (not pictured) were my favorite part of the meal. It was on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed with the savory meats. Sadly, their bbq sauces were too vinegary. Service was pretty quick for take out (we arrived when it opened on a Saturday). Food is OK quality and prices are reasonable if not inexpensive on their specials, like the steak and ribs for only $25. Good flavor and cooked ok but a nice combo for the price. Service is OK with some wait staff being more efficient than others. There were some who knew their customers by name and took time out to talk with them but that slowed down service a little for the rest of us. Nothing too bad but you might wait a bit for refills or something you need after your food or drinks arrive. We had cool fries and it took a bit for the staff to come back to our table to check in the dining room. Similar response time for wait staff outside when we needed condiments that were ordered but didn't come out with our entrees. The choices were: outside, the sports bar, or the dining room. We chose the dining room. A large group of people was sitting at a table. We were given a booth by the window and right by the server's station. Looking over the menu at home, we both decided that we would get a bacon cheeseburger. The entrees seemed, to us, to be too filling. The bacon cheeseburger consists of: "100% angus burger, apple-wood smoked bacon, vermont white cheddar, canadian cheddar, sliced tomato, and crispy leaf lettuce". We both ordered it cooked medium. The dish comes with fries. To drink, I had ginger ale while my husband had a Heineken 00. Our server was friendly and efficient. He made a mistake, bringing my husband a Coke instead of the beer. My husband corrected him. He apologized and retrieved the correct drink. The burger was dry and overcooked. It was more on the medium well side. In one way, I didn't mind that as I didn't end up with greasy hands or a burger that falls apart. The bacon and the cheese provided some relief from the dryness. The fries came out hot, which we appreciated. All in all, it was an OK experience; we would consider going again sometime.
