First time since the old soul food place moved out. The service was good the lady was nice. I got the catfish and shrimp platter. It was seasoned well. With green beans and mac and cheese. Pretty good.

This is a hidden gem! Phenomenal food! Friendly owner greeted us! Huge portions! I had the fried catfish and shrimp! So tasty and not greasy at all. My green beans and Mac and cheese were delish! Highly recommend this place!

Outstanding customer service. Very friendly and ensured we as a customer were satisfied. The food was freshly prepared. Here's what we ordered and our rating. *Fried Catfish * Fried Red Snapper * Fried okra * Potato Salad * Biscuit (a mixture of cornbread and a hush puppy) * Grits * wings and fries The stars on the menu are the freshly fried fish. The restaurant looks like it serves as an event venue as well.

After a long flight from KCMO to Washington D.C./Virginia, my cousin and I stumbled upon this restaurant in our search for some soul food. The owner was very friendly, warm and had great customer service. The space is open and roomy. They have games at every table to occupy you while you wait. The food was amazing, delicious - great seasoning, great breading on the fish, the wings were seasoned and coated in a spicy sweet bbq sauce and the grits were flavorful and creamy.

I was looking for a soulful restaurant in the area so I found this place on yelp when I came in the owner greeted me gave me a complementary drink. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. I even bought some dessert. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but I only got only hope but so much and I will definitely come back again. I recommend this restaurant if you're in the area or not too far please come out and check it out.

I'm shocked how empty this place is for how amazing the food is. We happened to find this spot online when our original dinner destination unexpectedly closed early. We were craving fish fry and this place served. We ordered a couple platters of catfish and whiting along with some sides. Both fish were breaded and fried perfectly. Super flakey inside and crispy on the outside. The shrimp was so crispy and crunchy you can eat it whole tail and all. I haven't had enough collard greens to make an assessment of what is considered good as a baseline but I enjoyed them! Sweet potato fries were thick and crisp. Fried green tomatoes were also delicious. Grits were very cheesy, the biscuit was also pretty good. Sauce bar was a bit lacking as some bottles were empty. But we made do with what was there. Staff was very kind and patient while we were figuring out our order. Also checked in on us to make sure we were ok. This spot is a bit further from home but we will definitely return to try more of the menu. Good fish fry is a rarity in Northern Virginia, and this place is a gem.

One of those places that's better dine-in than takeout or ubereats. The collards were good but the flavor was surface. The Mac and cheese had great flavor but had a weird gritty texture to it, also was very runny. The French fries didn't have any salt. The wings would have been better fresh and still crispy, the sauce is good but the wings were soggy by the time I got them. The biscuits definitely tasted more like Jiffy but were still very tasty. The black eyed peas tasted like they were made by someone's great-aunt, a good thing btw. The whiting was tasty and flaky and had a good crunch. We didn't get any of our requested sauces though.

situated where the the 'Johnny Ray's Sultry Soul Food' used to be, is now JW's Fish & Biscuits. I was sad to hear when Johnny Ray's shut down, but I didn't know a new restaurant emerged from the ashes. JW's is new to town & boy are they something. We ordered a platter of catfish (2 pieces) - comes with corn bread + 2 sides (coleslaw & candied yams) and a poboy, the poboy came with french fries - weren't that great honestly. I think if they did shoestring fries would've been better. the poboy itself was good though! the platter of catfish was freaking delicious! well breaded & seasoned. the catsfish itself was amazing. the candied yams were my favorite side. I can't wait to come back & try out their other menu items. Chef Dennis (owner) even came up to us to check in to see how our food turned out! he gave me a brief run down on the history of the restaurant & he's just an overall sweet guy!

Wasn't aware Loudoun had a southern/soul food place until I saw it on Yelp. Checked it out tonight and am so glad I did. Ordered the sampler platter with fried catfish, shrimp, collards, candied yams and a biscuit. While I was waiting on my order I grabbed a bottle of hot sauce thinking I might need it since I typically put it on fried fish and shrimp. Let me just say the flavor was so good I didn't need the hot sauce. Food comes out fresh and hot - fried to perfection. The cornbread biscuit had good flavor as did both sides - especially the yams. I will be back to try other items on the menu. And contrary to some reviews, the inside was not dirty. Check this place out if you are a fan of soul food!!

Turkey wings, rice and gravy. Candied yams, cabbage, biscuit

Location is a bit tucked away but well worth finding. Decided to try the turkey wings I kept seeing all over his social pages. The portion was huge.. AND it came with two additional sides. You have a choice of one or two wings, so just order two bc the difference in price was a no-brainer to just get two. All food came out piping hot, and was very tasty. Some days you may want a home cooked meal w/on having to turn on your stove or be in a swanky spot just for good grub. I left full with leftovers if I want a nibble later. Chef Dennis is VERY personable and makes sure you are happy with your order... he's even happy to take a pic with you. Also found out how passionate he is about allergy free desserts, which shows even more extent to why he loves making magic in the kitchen... Will return to try more soon.

We started with the pork belly, tuna carpaccio, beef carpaccio, and Blue Bay mussels. Every single dish was fantastic, but the beef carpaccio stole the entire show for me. I could have ordered 20 of them. Seriously. The flavors were so beautifully balanced that I genuinely didn't want the plate to end. For our entrées, we had the glazed duck breast, cab filet, and Meyer lemon ricotta ravioli. The duck was cooked to absolute perfection. Two of us ordered the same dish, and it was literally rinse and repeat, both plates were executed flawlessly. Tender, flavorful, and just beautifully done. Even the cocktails felt elevated.
