This little place is located in the old Dupree building. It's small and calm and the music is very relaxing acoustic type tunes. They mostly offer "meal prep" where you order multiple days worth of food on Friday and pick it up Sunday or Monday. The owner was very kind and told me all about how they love to use local fresh ingredients and how their meal prep menu changes every week. They also adjust their menus according to the season, which I greatly appreciate. Today I just stopped in for lunch and got the beef roll (I ate a couple pieces before taking the picture) which came with pickled radish and miso soup. The roll has beef, pickled radish and burdock, carrots, egg, and crab stick. And like most Korean rice rolls, it's brushed with sesame oil. It's really good. I also ordered the cold udong salad. The dressing is light and tasty and there are fresh greens, peppers, tomatoes, and shrimp. Very refreshing and satisfying. I'm excited to have Korean food on this side of town and I can't wait to try the meal prep! The only thing that I missed, which I'm such a sucker for, is a variety of banchan. I came here on a whim with a friend for lunch the other day. We saw it had great reviews and the photos of the food items looks really good. Upon arrival, we realized this is a very small place (only about 4-5 tables), but we had a great experience. The food was fantastic and the owner couldn't have been friendlier. We had the dumplings as an app and the Pork Bulgogi and Ramen as our mains. The prices were very affordable and they even deliver to Pivot Brewing in case you'd like to have a beer with your meal. We had three delicious dinners. The website doesn't showcase how nice the meal is. I had spicy pork and it came with miso soup and a nice green salad dressed with a toasted sesame dressing. The serving will be enough for me to eat twice. We also ordered beef bibimbap which my husband enjoyed with same sides and ramen with homemade dumplings for my daughter. Love Korean cuisine and this popped up as a new spot on my radar. It's located close to Pivot brewing and I drove right past it in the evening as its a converted house. We went with the panjuong (seafood pancake), spicy bulgogi, and a spicy tofu soup. The pancake was nice and spicy. With our meals, they brought out homemade kimchi to give it a local touch. Spicy bulgogi had great flavor. My gf thought the soup wasn't spicy enough and had too much tofu, but they were more than happy to offer her more broth and spice. Out the gate JY Kitchen knocked it out of the park with a delicious tuna roll and fantastic pan fried dumplings. We followed up the "appetizers", which honestly could have been the beginning and the end because they were so delicious and filling, with bibimbap and jab-chae rice. The dishes came with kimchi and miso soup that was amazing. The kimchi was a little spicy for my wife's taste but perfect for me. She mixed her's into the jab-chae at the owner's suggestion and it complimented it perfectly. Both of our entrees we're incredibly delicious and tasted so fresh. We then had one of each dessert and.... Oh my!!! These alone are worth the visit! If you are in the area and like or want to try Korean food this is the place to come. If you take nothing else from this review, remember that the food was simply amazing. I met a friend there for lunch today and we tried Jab-Chae and the spicy chicken with cheese. The appetizer of fried dumplings was delightful, slightly spicy and well cooked. Both entrees were wonderful with sides of kimchi and spicy cucumbers to balance the flavor of the entrees. The level of spice was well-balanced and the vegetables were perfectly prepared without being soggy. In terms of the dining options in Lexington, this had to be one of the best meals I have sampled locally. The service was excellent with information provided about the menu options and suggestions for those not particularly familiar with Korean food. It is a family run business and the care in preparation and quality is almost not to be rivaled by more established restaurants. The location is somewhat remote so it is off the beaten path in terms of proximity to The Summit, Hamburg or downtown venues. However, it is definitely worth your time to explore JY Kitchen if you enjoy authentic Korean food. read more
