Junk King I needed a hot tub removed from my upper deck. Made several calls. Junk King was the least expensive & most available. They had to cut it up to get it off my deck which was fine b/c it was not reusable.I asked them if they could take several other junk items. Ko restaurant is in the beautiful Fairmont Kea Lani hotel. We had my wife's parents and sister joined us for an early Mother's day dinner. We had concerns about the parents being able to get to the restaurant being that they are both in theri late 80's.and have some difficulty in walking long distances. The restaurant had notified the bell desk to take both parents in wheel chairs.When they drove up, the bellmen immediately met them at the vehicle took them downstairs to the restaurant. After dinner, the bellmen were right there and our vehicles were ready to go. The restaurant- Open air, covered dining at the end of the adult pool overlooking the beautiful hotel grounds. We came a little early to wait for our guests. Tried a couple of their signature cocktails. All good. If our guests took took longer to get there, we might not have made it to dinner Tried their Ko Plantation and Calamasi mojito..Bar Service- excellent. Dinner- ordered both family style appetizers. Our table had Zarzulea, Lamb Chops and the Lobster tempura. Everything with generous portions. I had the pineapple cake with a scoop of Strawberry gelato. My mouth waters just writing this. the calamasi pie and Chocolate baked custard.....well, everyone was really quiet eating the desserts.....sooo good... As local residents, we could relate to most of the food on the menu, because most of it is like local fare raised a few notches, well maybe more than a few. This is not your typical steak and seafood place. This is like local food on steroids. AND there have really nice deals for kamaainas.It is great that they take care of us Ohana.. If you are a local resident who likes good local food or a visitor who wants to get away from the typical tourist fare and wants some causal upscale dining with 5 star service and treatment, Ko is the place to go. Service: Excellent. Prompt, courteous, and nothing more could be asked for. I had an appetizer Mauka Harvest ("salad"), entree Catch of the Day Macadamia Encrusted ("fish"), and desert Wailua Estate ("chocolate"). The salad was great, but had too much dressing. With the right amount of dressing, it would have been much better. The fish lacked enough salt but was cooked nearly perfectly. It came with a side of boiled bok choy, which was unflavored, so was neither good nor bad. Another side was mashed sweet potato that was overwhelmingly laced with coconut milk. The chocolate was fantastic, but felt like two deserts. The chocolate custard was lightly sweetened and was excellent. The strawberry gelato sat atop a sweet caramel shell and was even better. However, if the chocolate was even less sweet, and lightly drizzled with some strawberry, and the gelato was lightly drizzled with some dark chocolate... My imagination thinks that would have made the entire meal seem better. Overall: Seems overpriced, but it's a nice experience with great but not exceptional food. read more

With my family and I staying at the Fairmount inn, which is where the restaurant is located, it was obviously a very convenient place for us to eat, especially after a long day of traveling. The restaurant itself was somewhat packed in, but it still was a comfortable atmosphere. Our waitress was great, and even gave us some very useful information regarding the rest of the island. The menu was just average and we had a little bit of difficulty finding something appealing to us. Although the food itself wasn't as good as expected, It was still a nice atmosphere in a convenient location for us to have our first dinner on Maui. read more

Would definitely not recommend this place for a vegetarian. They basically just have glorified boiled rice and vegetables without flavor. They have a very limited ability to modify or change their menu. Food is way overpriced for the taste. The vegetarian sushi is really bland, consisting of rice and tasteless thin sliced vegetables without any flavor. The service is not bad, but the food overall misses the mark. read more

We had dinner at Ko at the Fairmont Resort last week. The service by Misty was impeccable. She was very delightful to have. The atmosphere is perfect. The seafood dishes we had was exquisite. The only down fall we had was the Rib eye I had. It was very chewy!!! Icky!!! I was informed that it was Maui Cattle. Maui Cattle tends to be very lean and chewy, but I've had other Maui beef before. I think it was the cut of meat. I was informed that Ko, butchers their own meat. maybe need a new butcher or something. Overall, I love the food and ambiance of this restaurant! read more

My wife and I stayed for ten days at the Fairmont and weren't convinced about spending the money on Ko. We were so wrong. Ko blew us away. First, their staff is top notch: the hostesses, the wait staff, the bus staff, everyone. Friendly, helpful, accommodating, and most importantly, attentive. Our experience was excellent before we took our first bite. Our first bite was a dish they call Oishi Sushi - "Good Sushi". Hands down, the best sushi I have ever had. We haven't stopped talking about it since we left. Unbelievable. Then we had the Macadamia Nut Crusted Makai catch with Tomato Ginger Butter and Mashed Moloka' Äòi Sweet Potatoes. Delicious, fresh, well prepared, highly recommended. We finished with Wailua Estate Chocolate Baked Custard On Macadamia Nut Praline Crust with Kula Strawberry Gelato and Vanilla Bean Brulee with fresh berries. We did not imbibe at this lovely establishment, but their drink menu looked amazing. Maybe we'll go back for happy hour before we leave Maui. If you've read this far, I hope I convinced you. Start with the good: friendly servers and they really try hard to please. Ambience is ok. Now the bad: reading through the menu it seemed far too large, I was right. Some dishes tried to be sophisticated however came across as a gimmick. calamari was clearly frozen with soooo much batter and dark in color due to the oil being overused (a pile of mess covered in mayo), sushi was greasy and spring rolls were soggy and as well dark, reflecting the oil quality. Too many fried options on the menu. Thai curry had nothing Thai about it, was overly creamy with random vegetables you would never find in a yellow curry. Fish was average. I don't understand the other reviews, 5 stars yet everyone returned their food though loved how the servers got them a new meal ?? In conclusion the restaurant has a good fusion concept that I would love to give a second chance. Servers are friendly, however the food needs considerable rethinking. Cutting the menu in half and really focusing on less than 6-10 appetizers and 6-10 mains would be appropriate. Bring some customers some authentic flavors and quality produce. Don't sacrifice quality for portion size. read more

I had overpriced, overcooked rubbery fish for $38, and I experienced arrogant and combative service (waiter made me feel stupid when I asked for them to not fry something). I have officially lost faith in all Wailea high-priced resort restaurants to deliver good tasting food. I'm sticking with local favorites and low end restaurants in south maui now for yummy eats. We are staying at Kea Lani and ate at Ko last night. The outdoor dining was beautiful- it allowed us to see the sunset, the pool, and people watch all from our table. We started out with the calamari and the complimentary bread, chips, and hummus. Everything was to die for. We had the three course prix fix. I had the chop chop salad ( I love any type of chinese chicken salad and it's always a must to try anywhere I can) and it was one of the best salads I've had. The dressing was perfect as was everything else. The next course I had the pancit and it was a great mix of chow mein and pancit noodles. It had shrimp and sausage it. I was getting full and decided to take some of it back to the room for a snack the next day. The next day I could not stop thinking about it and had to eat it first thing when I got back to the room. Finally for dessert I had the banana lumpia and that was amazing, as was the coconut gellato it came with. I was so full by this point but the dessert was too good to waste. Overall this was a great first meal for me at the Fairmont Kea Lani. We are here for another week and I am so very tempted to get the pancit again. read more

We had the Mauka Harvest Salad (passion fruit vinaigrette), some deconstructed sushi dish that I can't remember the name of, the Spicy Thai Coconut Curry, the lillikoi margarita and the Ohana Style Kō Signature Desserts (Pao Doce Frito, Maui Vanilla Bean Brulee, Brown Butter Banana Cake). Worst service I've ever had in a restaurant- which pretty much ruins the experience. Waited 30+ minutes for waiter to take our order. My salad never made it out of the kitchen. My cousin's main dish didn't come out. Waited another 45-50 minutes for our food. I had the shrimp stew. The broth was great. The shrimp was over cooked. But the food is merely mediocre. The salad I got was good, but I was very disappointed with the Zarzuela I got. Ko is one of favorite places to take friends and family when they come to Maui to visit. Even though their dinner menu doesn't vary often, their core menu items are generally delicious and we do not hesitate to order them time and time again. Ko offers a blend of Hawaiian seafood that is always popular with those we have taken to dine there and there is something for almost everybody. The Zarzuela (seafood in a saffron broth) is a personal favorite. On Sunday evenings the have their seafood laulaus specials which is wonderfully prepared in coconut milk. If you don't like seafood, then you are limited to a few beef or lamb dishes and fried rice. They also have "plantation tradtions" which we have not ventured into. The service has been professional and friendly and we haven't had any negatives experiences yet. Their Kamaaina specials also makes meals there reasonable enough so we dine at Ko regularly throughout the year. read more

For our last night in Maui, we made reservations at Ko, based on our fellow yelpers' reviews. We were greeted warmly at the front of the hotel, directed downstairs to the grounds around the pool area and walked into this amazing little wonder land. We had reservations after sunset and so it was dark when we arrived. Ko is entirely outside on a terrace overlooking the pool. The palm trees were all wrapped in white lights which made this a very romantic location. I must say first off that our server really made this a great dining experience. He was friendly, attentive, and even gave us a tip on a local wine bar to try on our next visit (he printed directions and a menu which he gave to us on our way out). That said, the food was very tasty. We started with oishi sushi and lumpia - both were satisfying and flavorful. I had the Zarzuela as my entree, again based on a recommendation from our server. It was fantastic! I had to get more bread just to get the most of the broth. My hubby had the fresh catch wok seared in a spicy black bean sauce. Just perfect in terms of flaky fish and spiciness. I have no idea what the dessert was as they had me at bananas and caramel. It was a scrumptious plate of yumminess and magic that I would order again and again. We left Ko with fat tummies, smiles on our faces and love in our hearts. read more

For starters: the bartender tried a dumb 'lemon under a napkin is a mouse' trick as an apology for having us sit there for 10 minutes while he talked to guys in the kitchen; no low sodium soy sauce or soy sauce dishes (served in demitasse cups) no ambiance; nice chopsticks -complete with permanent teeth marks embedded in them; granite bar TOTALLY scratched and dirty; kids running rampant, etc. The 'you sear it ahi' was great, but a rip off @ $8 per slice (would be $64 for a roll). I had the gluten free California roll, very delicious, and living right salad, it was way too much food but everything tasted excellent. Although a bit pricey, this is fine dining at its best! My wife and I stayed at Fairmont and we ate dinner there 2 of our 4 nights there. I had the ribeye and lamb chops, both delicious. The rock seared tuna was unique - it was good, but for $26 I would like to get more than just 3 pieces. I'm usually a chocolate person when it comes to dessert, the pineapple cake was absolutely amazing! Our server, Blanka, was very nice and attentive. If you're staying at the Fairmont in Maui you have to do dinner at Ko. Great seafood and beef options, all with an Asian/Hawaiian theme. We started with park skewers barbecued with a sticky banana ketchup glaze. I thought about having the lobster tempura but instead went with the Zarzuela, a cioppino style hot pot loaded with lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams in a delicious saffron broth. My wife the Soba noodles and was happy with her choice. The meal also included a nice bread display with several different types of breads, honey butter and dipping sauces. read more

I'm not sure how this place got such high reviews on this site. Also not sure how they win "Best of Maui" awards on the regular. This meal was beyond overpriced for the quality of the dishes. They were all extremely bland and poorly executed. The prawns wrapped in phyllo dough was a joke. I don't even think that was actually phyllo dough, it was more like deep fried Chinese noodles. But in any case, it was a very small serving for the price, and it was completely tasteless. The tempura lobster tails was another extreme disappointment. $50 for three itsy bitsy baby lobster tails (cooked well, but completely tasteless), four flavorless asparagus spears, and a heap of TERRIBLE uncle ben's rice? This is HAWAII, brah! You can't serve uncle ben's rice at a restaurant claiming to be based on Plantation style food. Shameful, absolutely shameful. I can't remember the exact name of the final dish we had, but it was some oily and goopy slop of noodles and overcooked seafood. I think it was called chop-chae. Again, flavorless and just crushed with oily slop. Terrible, terrible food, and we were absolutely disappointed by our experience. The only bright light was our server, a lovely lady named Misty. She was fantastic, but even her service couldn't make up for the terrible food. I don't know if they were having an off night, but to be honest, I could care less. For the kind of money these guys charge, your kitchen had damn well better be spot-on every single night for every single dish. read more
