Really enjoyed Nalu's. It's a very casual, laid-back spot with chill vibes, friendly staff, and great food. The portions were also pretty generous, which was a nice surprise. It's the kind of place that feels easy and relaxed while still serving really solid food. I went on a Saturday around lunchtime and there wasn't live music at the time, but they do host live music, which seems like it would make the atmosphere even better. The brown gravy was a bit underwhelming, and the mac salad was rich with heaviness. I managed to try the Kalbi chicken salad wrap and found this dish to be a better option in my opinion. They have both indoor and outdoor seating: indoor is best but if they have live music, it is hard to have a conversation. Outdoors is nice but be ready to fend off the hungry chickens. Bless the workers for trying to shoo them away but obviously they can only do so much. We got a decent amount of food and if we knew how huge their portions were, we would of shared an entree. They were MASSIVE; it also didn't help that we got three appetizers to share so we were defintely struggling halfway through our meal. You order first and then sit down but if you want to sit at the bar you can just walk up and grab a seat. We wish we had known that prior as we waited in line with the happy hour rush. Happy hour is daily from 3pm - 6pm which includes discounted drinks (including the Nalu Mai tai) and 7 pupus for $7. Best restaurant in the world. This was easily one of our favorite places we went to on Maui and the best date spot of our trip. We got the apple brie burger, which was good. It wasn't my absolute favorite burger ever, but it was definitely different and felt really special. But the Aloha Friday ribs were everything. The portion was huge, and they were so, so delicious. They came with cornbread too, which was also amazing. Honestly, best ribs ever. I dream about these ribs. We were literally fighting over who got to eat the last pieces. The vibes were also so good. It's open-air, there was a live singer, and there was a nice cool breeze coming through. It made the whole experience feel so relaxing and romantic. And the service was so good. Everyone was incredibly friendly and genuinely kind. At one point, I forgot my hair tie and asked one of the staff members if they had a rubber band. Another staff member overheard me and asked what I needed for my hair. She told me not to use a rubber band because it would ruin my hair, then ran to her car to get me one of her own hair ties. That was one of the sweetest things ever. Amazing food, great atmosphere and genuinely wonderful people. For us mainlanders, this was not the typical flavors we're used to, but we stopped in for a bite and had a great time! The ordering process is a little more unique as they want to turn tables quickly for others, so smart, but you won't get a table until you order first. Why the 4-stars? Prices were high and you have to get up and get your own drinks from the bar, incl non-alcoholic...so although a small inconvenience, it's noticeable and could back up the tender and that small bit lost a star for me...but for others, it may not matter. We drove out from Lahaina since the power is still out from Lala for most of the area. Checked out Nalu's reviews and they seemed like the place to visit. We're all happy we did! The boys had the Loco Moco (top 5 I've eva had), while Wifee had the bagel and lox. She also had the mai tai with a side of lilikoi foam from Kelly which rivals MonkeyPods version. Ask yourself -- On vacation and dont want to wake up super early to get in a crazy breakfast line? Then this place hits the spot. Breakfast goes to 2:30 for my later birds or chickens. Including myself. How it works: Get in line, scan menu, order more than your eyes can handle (lol), find a table with your number and in a short while your food is out and ready to take you to food comaland. Get your drinks by the bar. Sodas, ice teas etc The vibe is really chill. Great for big families as there is plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Favorite part of our entire trip was coming to Nalu's multiple times. The Mai Tais are the best I've ever had, and that macadamia float is ridiculously amazing. The set up is a bit different for a full- service restaurant where you stand in line to order, then take your number to a table. However, the "cashier" is amazing, and she was always fast, efficient, and helpful (even when we kept going back to order more Mai Tais). The happy hour menu is great, especially the calamari (full breaded steak, cut into slices, rather than fried rings). The loco moco was probably the best I've ever had. No dry beef patty here, and the gravy was spot on. I honestly wanted to come everyday, and I think next time we will stay in Kihei just to be closer to Nalu's!!! read more

They have adapted the counter- service which is quite popular on Maui and when we arrived for breakfast in the line they announced that they have seats available at the bar so we took it. I needed a "Heavy Kine" breakfast this morning before my salon appointment and I was hoping Nalu's didn't have a long line and man was I happy there was no line! I got there maybe around 9:15/20 am. I honestly haven't been in a while because they can have long lines with tourists. Nalu's is a great spot for locals and visitors alike for some ono breakfast selection and also delicious lunch and dinner. Some of my favorites have been the Loco Moco, Corn Flake Crusted French Toast, and the Cubano. Some friends have gotten lighter healthier options like the Açaí or Pitaya Bowl or any of the Fresh Salads. The open air concept with local music and slack key guitar playing in the background is inviting! They also have live performances on several evenings and a happy hour between 3-6 pm that I have yet to try. I went for the Heavy Kine Breakfast which includes two eggs, I got Over Hard, a breakfast meat (get the homemade Portuguese Sausage and pour some Hawaiian Chili Pepper Water on that!), & Sourdough or Multi Grain bread. I love Sourdough and it came with side of Jam. There was a slice of Pineapple and a sprig of Rosemary that made my plate smell so good. I love how they have a condiment station and also 2 Fruit Infused Water containers. One was filled with Oranges, Lime and Lemon and the other with Lemongrass and Pineapple. The "Unko" worker was so friendly and accommodating. He brought my Pineapple Juice to me from the bar and also gave me a to go container. I hadn't been back to Nalu's in many years, and on our recent trip to Maui it was so good that we ended up going back twice for brunch! Located conveniently in Kihei, there is a lot of parking available. They do not take reservations. You wait in line to order your food and then find a spot to sit after you have ordered and paid. The ambiance is breezy and relaxed, with a cute family of chickens that walk around. FOOD: I was so excited that Nalu's offers a Vegetarian take on a Loco Moco. Their "Nalu's Loco Moco" is made of homemade organic tofu, spinach, turmeric-quinoa patty, over organic Jasmine brown rice, with two eggs any style, vegetable stock-country gravy. The gravy was incredible, and the patty was hearty. The moisture of the gravy and the eggs (I had them poached), made every bite creamy and packed with flavor. It had just the right amount of saltiness. The macaroni salad is my favorite that we had on our trip to Maui (and I think we tried at least 5 different places). We also ordered the Black and Blue Ahi Eggs Benedict-- which was Fresh island yellowfin tuna seared rare in Cajun spices on a toasted English muffin topped with poached eggs, mixed mushrooms, and homemade hollandaise. It came with country potatoes on the side. We both loved this dish- the ahi was fresh and the hollandaise was creamy but not too dense. The spices really brought out the flavor of the ahi, and the eggs added a nice richness. The potatoes were crispy and seasoned well. Overall absolutely recommend Nalu's for brunch and will definitely be back! read more

I had a great experience at Nalu's! I visited on a Saturday night. We were able to order and get seats in about 15 minutes after arriving, and our food and drinks came out quick. The one downside is that we originally were seated facing the parking lot. After communicating with the hostess she was able to accommodate a change. Located at the Azeka (Makai) shopping center, with plenty of parking and a chill atmosphere. They have a bar and a few tvs if that's more your vibe. I believe the bar is walk up, but otherwise you line up and wait to order/pay before you can sit. Trust the system, it works! (Especially if you use your time in line wisely and are ready to order by the time you get to the front). We tried the lobster bennys (special for the day), the CBLT, and a keiki grilled cheese. Great find for Hawaiian food & live music if you're staying in Kihei! The format here is a bit different from other restaurants in that you first need to line up to order and pay for your food & drinks at the host stand. You then are assigned a table and given a number to wait for your food to be brought out to you. There was a line when we arrived for dinner on a Thursday after 7pm, and we waited for about 20-30 minutes to order and get a table. Once seated at a table outside (where the music wasn't as loud), we waited for another 20-30 minutes to receive our food. It hadn't been explained to us that our drinks wouldn't be brought out to us. You have to go get them yourself at the bar. We only found this out when we asked the server who brought our food about our drinks, so our coconut mojito and Maui Brewing Pilsner had been sitting at the bar for a while. The Island Style Ribs with Respect was a great dish. The ribs had really tasty flavor, and the rice and mac salad sides hit the spot. It was enough for the 2 of us to share. We also got a side of volcano fries, which were tasty but could have been hotter. We really enjoyed the live music! The band played mostly Hawaiian music, with a few other songs mixed in. It was loud close to the speakers, and I think it'd be pretty hard to have a conversation if you were sitting there. I'd recommend bringing ear protection just in case. read more

A favorite that drew us back! We came back for happy hour for their amazing happy hour mai tai with the lilikoi foam. They were good as ever. We also decided to try the happy hour appetizers - seared ahi and crab cakes. The crab cakes were pretty good, though a bit on the dry side. The seared ahi was seared perfectly and the sauce was a great compliment. The staff was friendly as ever. We kept checking in on our drinks and the manager ended up checking for us and getting them when she noticed we were waiting. Coming here on an early weekday morning with some friends, I was able to get a taste of some of their best dishes. I got a Big Kahuna omelet, which for the size $18 seemed like it should have costed more! It was amazing, with all the hearty meats and filling kimchi fried rice. Never would I think fried rice and omelet would go in the same sentence, but here we are! A nice touch is their unlimited fruit-infused water refill station. The staff remembers you and treats you like family. They have live music every evening, and happy hour is PHENOMENAL. If you're not hungry, please at least come by for a mai tai! Decided to check out Nalu's after seeing some nice reviews of their Mai tais and entertainment. This place is a gem. Plenty of parking, I personally love ordering right at the beginning and getting our drinks at the bar (most negative reviews on here are about this process, have y'all been to a bar? Most places do this or have you order at the bar area) so don't be distracted by anything less than 4 stars. Our food and drinks were great. Had the volcano fries, lobster roll and burger. All delicious, I was looking forward to the lobster roll the entire trip and it did not disappoint. We came during happy hour so had a couple drinks as well, great deals for a happy hour. The ambiance is nice and relaxed. Space is open with a bar and seating while the local chickens run in and out. Lastly I'll have to mention the entertainment because he made our evening. Mahi Mahi - overall a yummy dish just wish there was more fish. The size of fish I got was smaller than I expected. The fish was juicy and tangy which I really loved. I devoured it immediately. Also came with a side of salad and I wish I had changed the rice to Mac salad because their Mac salad is sooo good Seasoned fries with furikake: yummy fries if only it was less salty, it felt like salt was dumped on and the fries weren't mixed so all the fries at the top center but extremely salty it was difficult to enjoy.
