This is an auto mechanic that specializes in German cars (BMWs) and other imports, although they will gladly service your American vehicles as well. I've had a few experiences here - from a few oil changes / inspections to my most recent (and most interesting experience) with asking Gerry, the owner of the shop and his mechanics to examine cars I brought in while I was shopping for a used vehicle. I gotta give huge props to Gerry and his detective skills. He was able to spot evidence of an accident on a car I was thinking of buying (with a clean carfax, mind you) and he emphatically told me to "let the car go." I ended up bringing in the next car I was considering and he combed over the body of the car for evidence of accidents and looked at it carefully for over a half hour to reassure me whether the used vehicle I was considering buying was worthy. He eventually concluded it was in sound shape and I ended up buying a used car at a great price from a private seller. Thanks to this shop, I was able to feel secure in making the purchase. Couple things you gotta understand though if you plan on coming here: the owner is a bit of a perfectionist, which may be a great thing as he looks at your car, but the vibe in the shop is often tense. Jerry specializes in German cars but worked on my volvo and some guy dropped off his minivan. My volvo needed new front breaks. He looked my car over as well. Called me 3 hours after I dropped it off and said- all I needed were front breaks. Since it's a volvo, it needed rotors and break pads. Not the first time I've heard that. He charged me much less than other people and my car breaks like a champ. Said I didn't need an oil change because he could still see fingerprints from when I got the car out of storage. Wow! So, you didn't rip me off to rip me off? I also told him another shop said I needed a fuel injector cleaning and spark plugs. He called BS and said to save for my 105,000 mile tune up. Seems like I can trust him and he will let me know what needs to be done- not just make stuff up to charge me more It's CASH ONLY. If you're looking for a pretty waiting room, extremely friendly staff and a huge bill, this isn't the place for you. They called me back to follow up on my review of them. Tried to make me feel guilty on my review of their horrible service. Says my sound system is what made it too difficult and caught them off guard. 1. My Honda civic did have a 1600 watt system on it which was the FIRST thing I mentioned over the phone and in person. I also mentioned that it may be an electrical issue... The fact that they're saying they didn't know about it as their excuse is baffling to me. If you don't do electrical you should've told me from the start you don't do electrical. 2. They called me after I had bought my car to another shop to fix. The problem was not my sound system at all. They stated over and over that my sound system was (suddenly after 9 years of having absolutely no problem) the culprit. In reality all the other shop did was remove an after market alarm system... My car is now functioning the same as it did 9 years ago again. 3. The follow up call only made me more upset because after all of this, they have the nerve to blame me for the issue. Commented back that they love to work on mercedes and bmw cars... Thats great, did you not notice my car was a Honda the minute I arrived? Why waste my time for two days? Will never recommend or come back to this place ever. read more

Jerry is GREAT! Took my car for an inspection at a different place and they called me saying I had a check engine light on (didn't have it when I dropped the car off). They explained it was an O2 sensor and wasn't linked to the gas cap. Took it to Jerry right after and he took time out of his busy schedule to check it out. Took my BMW to his shop for a coolant leak. He diagnosed my vehicle and told me I needed a new water pump, thermostat hoses and would be over $1,500. Insisted that water pump that was done 10k miles ago wasn't a certified BMW part and consequently NOT covered by BMW warranty for 2 years. Insisted prior mechanic used 3rd party inferior parts. Took him 3 days to diagnose my car. Long story short, BMW covered repair in whole. Yes, 100 percent. This shop is very dirty and unorganized. Should have listened to my gut instinct when I first visited but I tend to give the benefit of the doubt. Also no credit cards? Only cash! So what recourse do you have when work isn't completed correctly....NOTHING. Lots of sexual jokes when dropping my car off that at times were degrading to women and I was only talking to him for less than 10 minutes. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this establishment. I just had the most unpleasant and unexpected confrontation at this shop. The other review here pointed out that the vibe in the shop is often "tense". I found this to be the case, and then some. Gerry, the owner, was nothing short of obnoxious. I understand that he may be a perfectionist, (trust me, I can relate) but to act with so little concern for the customer is just beyond me. It's simply bad business. He didn't seem at all interested in helping me, to the point that he actually said he doesn't think we should work together. I understand that I may not know as much as he does about cars, but even if I'm way off base, he could have offered me the correct solution rather than simply saying we shouldn't do business. I would prefer that he corrects me! But instead, he lost my business, and made me so frustrated and uncomfortable that I decided to come here and write a review of the "service" I got at this shop. Jerry's awesome. Simply Awesome. I maintain our two Benzes myself for the most part; every once in a while a task surfaces where it's either out of my league or requires too many specialty tools to make it cost effective. My eight year old sedan had a whine I couldn't diagnose from the belt-driven-system. After looking at the "cheap and easy" things, it came down to the A/C Compressor or the Power Steering Pump; and I attempted to diagnose between the two. No go; it wouldn't exhibit any symptoms when you put it through "routine" diagnosis, I simply couldn't figure it out. Brought it to Jerry, he couldn't, either, but wagered based on his vast experience with these cars that it'd be the AC unit. Spot on, and a third of the price later, my car is back in service, and works as she did from the factory (it did when I brought it in, too, it was just headed for failure.) If you're a car guy, be prepared to talk. Jerry's a great guy, and if you ask questions/engage him, you'll be there for a bit. Finding an honest, competent mechanic is a challenge, he's both. He not only penciled me into his busy schedule the same day for a thermostat and water pump issue on my BMW 330i, he also did not charge me a diagnostic fee. He was patient and courteous when explaining the repair and how the different parts worked together and was consistent with what I had read about the issue prior to my arrival at his shop. K&A is an amazing repair shop and mechanic. The owner, Jerry, is very knowledgeable and professional. I'm relatively new to the area (I've been here almost 2 years), so I've had to shop around for a mechanic several times. There are some other great mechanics in the area which did fine work on my 2005 Volvo sedan. However, after I had problems with the struts in my car that a few other places told me would cost ~$3000-4500 (almost the cost of the car itself), I wanted one more opinion. So I brought it in to K&A since the sign says foreign and domestic cars. Jerry took his time to figure out what the problem was and let us know our options with their possible outcomes. We tried the cheapest option, understanding that it might not work, but luckily it did! We saved over $2500 with K&A! Ever since then, I've taken my car to him for anything that has gone wrong (with my or my wife's car, probably a total of 5 visits, some visits requiring evaluation with up to date computerized evaluations). Every time I go, he's courteous and helpful. He's always looking out for the cost of the services for the customer. He has been very trustworthy with his repairs and suggestions as to when things might need replacement. He's never pushy when looking at parts on the car - he'll tell you if he thinks things need to be replaced now or can wait. I called this place at 5:45 on a Friday and let him know that I was in a state of emergency with my car. I felt something drop- the lights all started going nuts - and I couldn't shift gears. I was driving with a five year old in the car... And will be traveling with a young child all weekend. When I called and asked if I could drive by (5 mins away) and just have it diagnosed to see if I could get it repaired over the weekend (I have a 40 minute commute to work on Monday) he said and I quote "just because it's an emergency to you doesn't mean it's an emergency for me. It's a Friday night and almost six. I am leaving. Drop it off and maybe I'll get to it Monday." For someone who runs their own office and business this is absolutely the most crude and disheartening display of apathy and lack of humanity. I cannot believe someone like this clock puncher would be allowed to run a business. Now I'm stuck on a Friday night with nowhere to go. No way to transport a young child and no way to get to work on Monday. I'll never stop telling people about this (abridged version) phone call I had today. in early august, my husband drove our subaru from massachusetts to niagara falls to attend a conference. we knew the subaru needed a tune up, but at about 167k miles we didn't expect the engine to seize up completely and die in the middle of an intersection in Amherst NY. My husband asked a passerby for a recommendation for a tow truck, and the gentleman said "K & A Auto." So he got the number, called, and the car was towed to the shop. It was late on a Friday afternoon, and Jerry took a look at the car. He was getting ready to go away for the weekend, but didn't let that stop him as he tried to figure out what was wrong. A few efforts resulted in the car not being fixed so Jerry said "You're from Massachusetts? Want a ride? I'm going there in about an hour." So my husband called and said "Well, I'm getting a ride from the mechanic and his family, the car needs more investigation but I want to come home so we'll deal with it next week." Doug (husband) got in the car with seven strangers, and rode through the night to central Massachusetts where I met them. Jerry returned to Buffalo, and unfortunately was unable to fix the car. We opted to junk it, rather than chase down a Subaru dealership to have them argue with us about the car and the head gasket problem that many cars of our year's make and model had experienced. Jerry took care of everything for us and we got a check today in the mail for the car. The fact that he took time right before leaving on his long weekend to make a great effort to try and figure out what was wrong with the car, the fact that he tried once he got back to solve the mystery, the fact that he and his family took such good care of my husband and drove him back to within 90 minutes of our house... makes me smile a big smile. I would give them 5 stars if the car got fixed! that's the only thing holding them back from a 5 star review from me. Just got a used car where the check engine light came on. I called multiple places that would charge over 90$ for the diagnostic. Jerry told me to come over and if its an easy fix like the gas cap being loose, then he wouldn't charge me at all. My knock sensor needed replacement. He said he could fit me in on Friday but I needed it sooner than that so Jerry told me he would order the replacement and do it the next day. Total time took just 2 days. Jerry is the best mechanic I've ever taken my vehicle to for repairs. He's very straightforward and tells you what is wrong with your vehicle and what you need to do to repair it. He doesn't try and upsell you on anything that isn't appropriate and has never recommended a repair that wasn't necessary. I brought in two different vehicles for brake work and both times he told me honestly I didn't need to replace the pads and rotors on one end because they were still ok for a few more months. Basically no mechanic would ever tell a customer that... they would try and sell you the whole package then and there. K & A they don't do that. The prices are also as good as I've seen anywhere. Jerry will usually will show you the exact part(s) he replaced on your vehicle and even explain why. It's very uncommon to find this level of customer service. I definitely recommend K & A for any vehicle repairs or inspections, whether foreign or domestic. read more

My wife and I dropped my son at University at Buffalo on a Thursday and had to get back to Long Island on Thursday night for Friday work. Our car had an anti freeze leak that turned into a busted heater hose. The part could not be delivered until the next day. We showed up to the shop at 4pm and it closes at 6pm. Kyle and Jerry dropped nearly everything to help us and rigged up the hoses using a common tee from a local hardware store. They worked on our car past 6pm, charged only 100 bucks and we made it back Friday at 2am. I chose Jerry from a list of over 30 mechanic shops in Buffalo. God put my finger on his number and Kyle and Jerry took care of the rest. They are genuinely great people. They are kind, generous, honest with big hearts and souls. So one of my studs my rear car wheel was broken and I approach this mechanic from K & A and ask him to give an estimate. But instead of giving me an estimate, he asked me how would I know if a woman I had sex with is pregnant? While I was thinking how to answer this pathetic irrelevant question he asked me, he replied himself that I would know it if she missed her period not that I dont know this. But the relevancy of him asking that question to a customer was totally nonsense. I guess this guy I met from this place was a unique character. Do not recommend this place AT ALL. read more
