I try to shop locally but they dont always have what I need sadly. Theres mulch all over the place out front along with plants but its right in driving areas, last thing I want is for someone to zoom in while Im trying to lug mulch across the street. My beef was that I went to get hose parts and an employee asked me if I wanted help, the first time nicely, the second time kind of urging me to hurry up so him and another coworker could put grills in the aisle for the night. I had a list of stuff to get but just got one item instead. This place needs a bigger lot and area so people arent shoved out the way at 17:25 for them to reload stuff thats in the front of the store. I love our True value.. Need a key cut - done, need some rope, done, need paint or seasonal stuff, it's there. And when the season is over, what a great sale. They have plants in the spring, all the ice stuff in the winters. Painting, electric, and home goods. This is a good, local store and they are very good with the community. I know they have an extensive solar panel system on the roof - you can actually view the energy output on a monitor near customer service - making this a very GREEN building. They are very active in the community with the Quiet Waters Park events and sponsorship and very generous. For that, I give them 5 stars. About the shopping experience. It is a cozy building with a lot of stuff in there. They have a very helpful staff and they can point you in the right direction. It is opposite of the big-box stores, that is for sure. As Nina U points out, you do get a 20% off discount if you check in on Yelp on your first purchase with all you can fit into a reusable True Value shopping bag. The prices aren't too far off form Home Depot and Lowes on most items. They have a huge bird food selection and home cleaning area too. read more

I have needed some obscure things recently and walked out with what I needed each time. Very pleased. I much prefer refilling my own propane tank rather than exchanges. Could this have been racially/ethnicity motivated? My wife and I purchased one bag of soil and two packs of jiffy starter containers. The following day we were informed by Annapolis Police that an employee witnessed my wife and I stealing a bag of potting soil and wrote down our licence plate. The employee or management called the local APD on my wife and I and atempted to press charges for theft. For an "$8 bag of potting soil". An officer showed up at our house incessantly pounding on the door informing us of the allegations and began to interview us. The officer told us to get in touch with the detective on the case. Proof of purchase via credit card receipt and bill of sale provided by true value upon purchase was shown to the officer/detective. The officer met with true value management and confirmed that no theft had taken place. We were wrongfully accused and harassed by employees/management at this true value location. The manager called us apologising claiming that somthing like this has never happened during the decades they have been in business at that location. My family and I no longer have faith (let alone feel safe or comfortable) in our local community supported true value [that we have also supported for over 20 years of us living in and raising a family in Annapolis]. Could this have been racially/ethnicity motivated? We would like to think not. Whatever the reason was it was admittedly "wrong and unacceptable" on their behalf coming from management who called us after they resolved their mistake. Management blamed a mistaken employee that they "trusted their judgment" but instead of investigating at all on their own they immediately went from zero to one hundred and wasted the Annapolis Police department, my families and their own time. This could have been resolved internally in an instant without harassing my family. Another note. This was during covid-19 no customers are allowed in the store. All purchases are done over the phone and an employee brings the items to your car after payment is processed. We called the store and placed our order for three items, payment was processed 10 minutes later an employee loaded the items into our trunk. The next day we find out true value is pressing charges against us for theft of one of the items. During these stressful times of covid-19 it is understandable to be over worked and on edge. I thank you for providing our community with your service and still operating under the circumstances. My family and I understand that this was a mistake on true values end but it does not under any circumstances make it right or ok. This is completely unacceptable and appalling behavior. We hope this never happens to another true value customer. read more

Great location but they close WAY too early. I pulled in at 6:08pm tonight (I learned the hard way they close as 6:00pm). While pulling into the parking lot two different customer were walking way after missing them being closed and in the process of leaving two additional cars pulled up but turned away unsuccessfully. They really need to push back their weekend hours- in a period of 5 minutes they lost 5 customers. I spent $200 at Home Depot on items I was planning to buy at True Value. I like supporting the little guys but I needed items that immediately. read more

This is a fantastic store! I love going in here because the staff are so knowledgeable in their inventory and home maintenance. I'm a do-it-yourself'er so I appreciate any good advice I can get on taking care of my home. The best part, this store has a rewards program. It's free to enroll and after you spend about $200 there you'll get a reward in the mail. They are really good about sending out coupons and rebates. In the fall, they have a ladies night where they will have all sorts of seminars on energy saving, gardening, and all kinds of home demonstration. It's a free event! They'll have catering from local businesses like My Butcher and More and Palate Pleasers and coffee and punch as well. It is worth getting on their facebook or emal list so you know when to register for it! The only downfall of this store, is that it is very small and crowded in there. The aisles are very tight and if you are not careful you will knock stuff over. The parking lot is a bit tight too. read more

I stumbled upon this gem when trying to avoid the ridiculous Annapolis traffic in search of getting a house key made. They have everything!! The aisles are packed with everything from toilet tank parts to kitchen trash cans. If you don't see it- ask! They also have play sand and all the plant choices in the spring. Great little find in Annapolis!! Right by Quiet Waters dog park, I hit it often for needed supplies rather than go to Home Depot. Their staff is very helpful, knowledgeable, and there's always someone available if you may need assitance. Also just nice people. I also checked in on Yelp, got a reusable bag and now get 20% off for whatever I can fit into this bag. Show the check in upfront through lest they have to go back and give the discount for each item they already rang up. I've been there multiple times in the past month. A good consistent experience. My only wish is that they had more bird seed. I was less than impressed with the seed--it seemed a little older than I wanted and most bags were damaged. Other than this, I love the place. Though this place isn't as large as a Lowe's or Home Depot, you can find some items that you may not be able to located at the larger stores. The items I needed fit in that category of not able to find at the large chain stores and not so special I had to go online to locate and pay a premium price. They are up-to-date with new technology but are old fashioned with great service, courtesy and a willing attitude to do the best job fulfilling your needs. They are a gem! This is the only hardware store we go to. It's locally-owned, the selection is quite good for the fundamentals as well as some fun and quirky gifts. The service people - cashiers and young people are always helpful. So, why not five stars? The often grumpy and unapproachable lead manager (not the owner) notches it down a star. He doesn't greet you or offer any assistance and when you ask he seems, well, kind of annoyed. When he does help you, he lightens up a bit and is quite helpful . . . but you have to break through the glacial ice first. We will continue to patronize this local and very community-oriented hardware store, we love it there, grumpy manager and all! read more

I have fixed up several boars, built a woodshed and lots of house maintenance for my home. Tru Value/Annapolis staff is top-flight, very helpful, knowledgeable and available to walk me thru the task. Tru Value/Annapolis carries just about every screw, bolt, tool, attachment, etc. that is needed to do the job. Maybe the best hardware store to be found. Staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have a little bit of everything in here. Need propane? A 2x4? Paint? Drain cleaner? Tools? Pool stuff? Even a cool little toy at the checkout to bring home to your kid? They've got it. Don't bother going to Home Depot unless you need a huge array of home improvement stuff. This is a real gem in southern Annapolis and I don't think in my years of living in that area that a month went by without a trip here. I used to head to KB true value when I had a project but now I feel like I'm walking into a hallmark store. There's so much decorative "junk" they have no room for actual hardware. Besides the clutter, I've noticed long time employees are no longer there. They were what kept me coming back and I hate to be so blunt but the new owner is rude and has very little people skills. When asking a question, he was short with me as if I was wasting his time. This store has gone from being a favorite to almost intolerable. Please start selling "hardware" again, and I think everyone, especially the one running the show could use a lesson in customer service. read more
