Bizarre experience here today -- my car failed the first test months ago because I'd just replaced the battery. I explained the situation and handed my receipt to the old guy in glasses, who checked his computer and, with a satisfied smile, told me I was lying and he'd caught me. I tried to make sense of his confusion, but instead of explaining himself he began to insult me, telling me that I probably lie for a living and that he wouldn't perform the test. Then he started pointing to security cameras and threatening to call the police, even though I'd done nothing to threaten him. Oddly enough, I mentioned the story to my dad later on and he told me he'd gotten his car smogged there last week and had the same encounter! K & K Smog - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Venice, California

It's literally a hole-in-the-wall, test only facility which by state law cannot perform any repairs or adjustments to your vehicle if it fails. The technician performed the test quickly & efficiently. I was in & out in about 15 minutes. However it's rather pricey at $60. Be forewarned once you pull into this facility, there's no way to turn around unless you want to back your car out into Lincoln Blvd. (yikes!) Unfortunately I couldn't take my car to my regular place for the smog check since it's not a test only facility. Obviously if you're stuck taking your vehicle to a test only facility, they can get away with charging you more. (sounds like one of those well-meaning government mandate with that unintended glitch that hits the pocketbook, ugh!) Be sure to check your registration renewal notice beforehand to see what it reads. read more

Quick service but way too expensive! I paid $65 when in the past I've paid $35 at other local stations. I asked a few of my friends who had used them in the past and asked if they had also payed $65 and they all said no. Unsure why I was charged more for the same amount of labor time. Amazing fast smog check! Don't think I've ever been in and out of a smog check before in my life. Definitely recommend Ali at K & K Smog. I gave him a call and he said there's no need for an appointment. Just asked for the year of my car which was 2012. As long as you mention the coupon for 29.75 off, you'll pay $40 out the door (for my year of car, think it's the price for newer cars). He even takes credit card for the same flat $40 charge! The location is right on Lincoln which can be kind of busy. You can either enter directly on Lincoln or enter through the alley behind the place. Will be coming back here for our other car! The best cleanest, friendly, and more importantly the most professional smog check shop in SoCal! I went to my old shop (not so clean, not so professional, but cheap) and got a surprise, he hadn't paid his license fee so he couldn't perform checks. I drove back towards my home and passed several shops but decided to stop at K&K because it appeared clean. Within 30 minutes (one customer ahead of me) my transaction was complete. Just took my car for its first smog inspection. I had never had to do this before and the process was painless and quick. Ali was very professional, effiicient, and friendly. I went on a Saturday afternoon and did not have to wait at all. I think I was in and out within 10-15 minutes. Very convenient! The service is fast. However, leaving feeling as though you've been bamboozled is not the mark of good service. With only one person ahead of me, I was ushered in to do the paperwork of name, address and registration, then told to sit in the waiting room while the test was done. A few minutes later, I was told it was done, and came out to pay. I pulled out the coupon--the reason I chose this station--and he made a face. I asked, "Do you not do coupons?" He answered, "Yes, but it's too late, I already entered the amount, and I can't change it." Because that would mean having to go in and change a line on the computer, and print out a new receipt. Lets be clear, in order to use a coupon, you cannot give the coupon at payment time, but must present as you walk in? But it does not say that anywhere on the coupon. Nice racket. I'd say skip this spot and choose a business that'll deal with you honestly and respectfully. read more

I went to K&K on 9/28 after finding their coupon online. With the coupon, I was charged $32 for the smog test. The original estimate was $40 but my car did not pass so $8 was deducted for the smog certificate. Nothing stood out as far as the service other than there was no one else there so the wait time was minimal. However, the check engine light was on. When I took my car into the shop to get the problem fixed so that my car could be retested, I was told that the smog station should not have smog tested my car in the first place since the check engine light was on because that would mean an automatic fail. Later, I was told by friends that other stations have spared them the expense of the test when they had a check engine light on. Not K&K, they were happy to charge me for a smog test with the check engine light on knowing the test would fail. read more

I've never been there but for what it's worth, I am researching. I wish they'd require STAR report cards in the windows, like a restaurant. Their STAR status appears to be in jeopardy. This may mean they're more likely to pass your car, so take this as you will. :) read more

I called first, to make sure they would accept a coupon I found on the internet. He was very courteous and confirmed he would accept the coupon, and what the charges would be ($69.75 - $29.75 coupon = $40.00, which INCLUDED the $8.25 certificate fee). He was every bit as nice when I got there, and processed me promptly, did the smog check and, YES, accepted the coupon and I paid $40.00. (I was worried, because I've seen reviews on Yelp where people said they got to the smog check place, and they wanted to charge a different amount than what they quoted on the telephone. I called to ask some questions and had one of the funniest phone conversations ever. So I decided to go in and get a smog test and when I arrived I was greeted by Fadi who was just as fantastic in person as he was on the phone. I wasn't able to print out my coupon for $29.95 off and he honored it anyway and gave me the price he quoted over the phone. The test was done in 15 minutes or less and my 2008 passed with no problems. On my way out Fadi gave me coupons for my family and friends and said he would give them the same discount he gave me.
