I bought a $35 groupon deal for an hr long facial with Fay and it was very very nice. Quite impressed with the service and how great deal this was! The room is very very tight with thin walls so esthetics is not that great (hence the four stars) but the facial was well worth it! Fay was very detailed about every step of the facial and worked with me to target issues/concerns I had with my face. It was very relaxing with the massage, exfoliation, and mask. SOOOOO happy I came here. After a fiasco at the last salon I went to I was not setting my expectations high for any salon. The previous salon in Lincoln Park / Wrigley not only chopped my hair, but slaughtered my bangs, and left my hair splotchy with ash and orange colors. Let's just say it hid in a pony tail for 2 months until I had time to schedule an appointment elsewhere. On the day of my appointment, I got out of work early and they squeezed me in that day. My stylist, Holly, was so nice and did a wonderful job on my highlights. She even tried to help fix the botched bangs I had from another stylist. Another bonus for 20% with new clients. I've been to many stylists over the years and I have to say Kelly is the best one I've ever had. She helped fix a hack job from another salon and did a beautiful all over color. She also gave me some general hair care advice that surprisingly, no other stylist in my 30+ years has ever told me. I was so thrilled with how it turned out!! Several weeks later, it was time for a trim/shape again (one day before a big job interview) but I didn't have time for a color. Kelly dug into her totes and found a temporary mousse that wasn't quite my color, but would help blend things together at least long enough to hide the roots and for me to rock it the next day! Even my own mother said it was the best haircut she's ever seen me with. I've been so happy with the services that Kelly has been able to provide me and will definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a great stylist in the Chicagoland area. read more

I'm on the fence between 2 and 3 because the stylist was lovely; the location really is fantastic, and if the haircut itself had gone better, I probably would have rated it 5 stars. The one thing I generally request of hair stylists is please god ask me before doing something to my hair. I welcome and appreciate all ideas, I really do, but please don't do it without my consent. I requested a simple trim and to keep the style as it was because I'm just growing my hair out. Very simple, straightforward, admittedly boring, but this one particular aspect of my hairstyle that I really liked was removed because she thought it would look better that way without asking me. I sat on it for a week to see if maybe I would warm up to it with some time, but every time I look in the mirror, I get really grumpy and pull it into a ponytail. It'll grow out. It'll be fine. I'm just upset there wasn't better communication so I could walk out with exactly what I wanted. My recommendation if you do decide to go here, verbalize precisely what you want because the last thing you want from your hairstylist (unless specifically requested) is a surprise. read more

New to the neighborhood and saw good reviews for K Chula. I had a cut with Kelly. This was the best experience I ever had at a salon. Kelly was helpful and genuine. You could tell she truly wanted me to not only love the cut, but that I also knew how to style it with ease afterwards. She was not at all pushy about trying to sell me products, or other treatments, but helped me to manage my style without breaking the bank. Definitely coming back here again! read more

She listens to what I ask for and delivers. Plus, we talk about the reality shows and movies we watch. I am so glad I decided to try K Chula salon. I went to Kelly after having the worst haircut experience of my life and she talked me down off the ledge and fixed the awful chop job I had received. I nicknamed her the hair psychologist on that first visit because she took my rambling, divergent, explanation about what I wanted and turned it into an amazing haircut. I mentioned that I wanted to try highlights, but didn't like the look of blonde on brown that I so often see on women, but I wanted something to change things up a bit. She gave me the most beautiful, natural looking golden/auburn highlights. Oh, and, the best part? They grow out looking natural--without that dark stripe down the center of my head. I highly recommend Kelly to anyone who is hesitant about highlights because of the upkeep and maintenance factor because with her, you don't have to go every month. I also think she gives a great cut. Don't be thrown off by the fact that during one visit her hair will be blonde, then the next, red, then, the next purple. I think her creativity is what makes her so darn good. read more

I read the reviews and since I live in the area I decided to give K Chula a try. I am really happy I did! My appointment was with Tammy who I came to find out was somewhat new at K Chula. I needed a new style and a new color. I didn't have a clear idea as to what I wanted but I did know what I didn't want. I was able to voice concerns and I remained open to new suggestions. We went with a foil color for highlights and the hair between the foils she did solid color, which matched close to my natural color. Afterward, she gave me a great cut! The foil process took a long time but it was worth it and I was grateful for all her attention. When we were finished, I wasn't completely sure how I felt about the color. I had never gotten anything other than solid color before. I was honest and she said that if after about a week or so of getting used to the color, if I didn't like it, I could come back and she would re-work it. Honestly, once I got home and looked at it in my own mirror I knew that it really was perfect for me! It was natural and soft but not boring! I really love it, the color, the cut and the entire experience. I am so happy I went to K Chula and I will be back! read more

I wanted a dramatic change in my haircut, so after reading some Yelp reviews, I bought a Groupon, called K Chula, and set up an appointment for later in the same day. The salon is very nice and cozy, and I was immediately made to feel at home. My hairdresser was Tammy, and I liked her instantly and felt like she just was the friendliest person. She did a wonderful job on my a-line bob haircut, took her time consulting with me first and then washed and cut my hair with great focus while still holding an enjoyable conversation. Best of all, she advised me on products but did not try to push them on me, and she didn't completely glop up my hair with stuff to make it look totally different than I could ever get it looking on my own. Hi Carrie! I'ts Bee! I've been meaning to review K. Chula's since I first heard about Yelp but it continued to fall off of my radar until today. Carrie has been my stylist, friend, and confidante since 2002 when she worked for Ulta. Thank God that they were kind enough to tell me where she went when she left or I would have lost my Hair Goddess. Yes, that's right, if Mother Nature can perfect pansies, Carrie can perfect my hair! No one knows how to handle my bi-racial hair (Caucasian/Native American) and so I just allowed it to grow long and ratty. Enter Carrie, who magically brings out the best in my now shorter locks. Plus, with the 3 color tones that she applies, I finally look and feel fantastic! Going to her salon is always a treat in and of itself and I look forward to having her pamper me for years to come. Watch out for parking! It can sometimes take you 20 minutes to locate a spot so plan that into your visit! read more

I made an appointment here after I found out the salon I usualy go to closed (Revive). I figured it was a sign to try a new stylist. I'm glad I did - Carrie cut my hair and she did a really great job. I'm pretty low maintenance and I told her my usual routine and then she gave me the most manageable haircut I've had in a long time. I went on a weekday after work and it was just Carrie and the receptionist. I can't say enough good things about my experience. I found K Chula on Spaciety and made an appointment for partial highlights and a cut with Lurri. She was amazing. She started out my appointment by asking what I wanted to get done. I was a little vague...I'd like chunkier highlights, a trim with layering, etc. During the appointment, we had an awesome chat about where she grew up, her family, etc, but I could also tell that she would understand if I just wanted to relax and read a magazine. Most importantly, I left there feeling beautiful, and my curly hair is bouncy and the curl is awesome due to the great cut. Well done, Lurri! read more

Carrie is awesome. I recently found the salon several months ago and I have been going back ever since. I had have 4 cuts and the last is as good as the first. As a guy, I am not a big fan of hairdressers who want to do something fancy. Rather I appreciate someone who can analyze the situation and get to it. I have difficult hair and she not only recommended a good cut, but also tips on how to take care of my hair in between visits. She is good stylist and easy to talk to, so I actually enjoy the visit.
