Over the past couple of weeks, Kelley Pinson and his associate Christian completely changed our home for the better -- replacing a tired, old country-style staircase that is a focal point of our home into a modern one that is remarkably beautiful. We sought quotes from several stair companies highly rated on Yelp. One was pretty booked up and wasn't interested in coming out to our house. Two came to our home and gave us estimates. The price quotes for K Pinson Stairs and the other company were not too far apart, so we made a selection based on gut feel. My wife and I are glad we picked K Pinson. Kelley listened to our design ideas and he came up with a great final plan that we agreed to. He told us it would take two weeks to demo the old stairs and complete the new ones. He and Christian actually beat that by a couple of days (for which we were very grateful). Understand that K Pinson Stairs is a completely handmade, custom product -- not from a factory. Kelley and Christian personally crafted EVERYTHING but the metal tubes and fasteners -- the brackets are even custom made. Kelly did a great job on my stairs. He took down the drywall and hauled away all the debris. Put in extra wall support inside the wall to mount the posts. Did everything by himself, even the staining and clear coat. He hung plastic from floor to ceiling to ensure the spray didn't get anywhere. Worked with me on stair design and stain color matched some items in our home, Even touched up painted everything and blended the trim in. If you want it done right and not fast, he is your guy. Amazing! We put in new dark wood floors, and our stairs and banister, which were light maple, just didn't look right. We looked around for someone to stain the banister and stairs dark and change the balusters to iron. Some friends had used Kelly, and they said he was great. They were right. It took 5 days for the whole job, and now our staircase looks beautiful! He was able to match our floors almost exactly, and the stairs and banister look perfect. He also did a perfect job on the new iron balusters. Can't believe what a difference it makes. Kelly was professional and did a great job. I considered two vendors for this project but selected Kelley because I like being able to communicate with, and work directly with the craftsman rather than dealing with receptionists, schedulers, etc. Kelley is an artist, and he takes great pride in his work. He truly cares about delivering a beautiful product. He is booked far in advance because he does one job at a time. When my wife and I began remodeling our Carlsbad home, we knew the most important change would be removing the old unsightly 1980s metal balustrade and handrail of our staircase. I gave him a drawer from an end table to match the wood color, and it was perfect! It looks fabulous, and his work was done very professionally. Our maple and cherry spiral staircase is the "centerpiece" of our home. The last time someone tried to refinish the maple treads, the stripper they used bled through the masking tape and discolored the cherry wood on the sides. Over time, the wood discolored because it had a wax finish and no UV protection. We searched for a contractor to do the difficult job of removing the old finish, restoring the wood, and installing a finish that will protect the staircase for years to come. K Pinson Stairs to were top-notch from beginning to end. We had to wait awhile to have the work done as they were very busy, but it was well worth it. I'm late with this review since I just recently got on YELP. I had a wobbling staircase for years that I didn't know what to do about or even if it could be fixed without replacing the whole thing. Saw Pinson's ad and gave him a call. I explained what I thought was the problem and sent some photos of the staircase. He gave me a quote, which seemed very reasonable. He was busy so had to wait a little but he arrived as scheduled and repaired it in a few hours better that I ever hoped for. He also took time to correct some other problems I was unaware of. The price came in under under his quote, which I would have been happy to pay. I asked if he was sure of the price and he said" yes." He was neat, friendly, professional, and when he left the place was just as clean as when he arrived... except I could now use the staircase without risking my life.. We just moved and I contacted Kelly to get a quote on redoing our rails for our 1970s stairs because it was too wide and unsafe for our toddler. I didn't want to redo the entire staircase, just the railing, and didn't want to spend a lot on it since we just purchased a home. Kelly was so knowledgeable and professional. He gave me quote which was all in the same range as the other contractors. Unfortunately, we didn't want to spend that much yet on the stairs. So Kelly was so kind enough to recommend to save money, hire a welder. A welder can take the old railing and do his magic. I was surprised because it is rare for a contractor to recommend another option because they want your business. Not Kelly. He is a true, honest contractor looking out for your best interest.
