Went to a friend's birthday party here, and honestly the experience was disappointing. There weren't even that many people, but the staff came across as rude and not welcoming at all. I am writing on behalf of all parents who pay their money at this location. The people who work at this location are great especially Jake Nutt the GM. I am from the San Diego location and have experience at a lot of k1 speed location such as all the ones in California, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio. These karts are older than the kids driving them meaning many of them are 10 plus years old which is not acceptable. The location general manager Jake Nuts told me he has been trying to get new karts but it has not been successful. I am reaching so this unfairness can be adjusted for our children . GREAT EXPERIENCE & PRICE WITH GROUPON! I decided to go racing here with friends for my birthday! Something told me to check Groupon. Sure enough there was a Groupon for $48 for 2 races for 2 people and memberships for both or 4 races for 1 person and a membership for that person. My babe and I used both races during this single visit. Each race consisted of 14 laps around the track. The race cars go super fast (40-50mph). The first race was nerve wrecking because as a newbie you're getting used to the car, track and speed. However, the second race I was Danika Patrick, lol. I went from 7th place to 2nd place and this was my first time at K1 Speed! Overall had a great time celebrating my birthday. The facility is nice and clean! They have arcade games and lounges, table to relax at during down time after your race. The staff were very friendly! At the end I realized I could have received a free race on my birthday but I had already left the facility. I contacted them promptly and the added a race credit to my account for the next day! Signs are all over this place that read "Don't Drink and Drive", yet I had to ask the track staff to hold my kids back from a race because two of the other racers in their heat had just chugged their Bud Lights. The same guys come off of the track and are served another beer each. You're forcing my newly turned 14 year-olds (today is their birthday) to race with adults because of their height, yet you serve alcohol with no responsibility. We won't be returning. read more

If I could give NO STARS that would match my service. First time visitor, Event Birthday party. Customer service is horrible. You have to beg for help To sign in. No one would direct us in when we would do anything. We were bumped from our party room, it was given to a guest who was scheduled for the next day. Pricey? Yes. That def is a deterrent, but my brother and I had a Groupon, which cut the price of 2 DLs and 4 races by over 1/2 the price. So we went on a Monday and were able to race twice in about a 1.5 hour period. We had to wait for a race to finish and 2 more races between our first and last race. Not a big deal, but there's really nothing to do here except play air hockey, or pool (1 table) or one of the few video games they have. The staff was super nice. No issues there. The selection of helmets and upkeep of the cars is perfect. The track is fun, but the rules are annoying. The layout encourages you to "race" against fellow racers, however you're discouraged to race or nudge someone while passing. They say placing is based more on lap times, but you have to more around other racers. So in my case, my brother and I weren't actually able to race eachother neck and neck. The cars are face and super responsive to steering. I like that. The indoor A/C is really nice too and so is the atmosphere. The price and rules are annoying and I'm sure this place is packed after work hours and weekends. I went here with a group of friends yesterday for a little celebration. I had never been here so it was an experience being a first timer. In order to race at all, you must be a member of K1 so that's an automatic $8. For two rides including the membership, you'll be down $40. The place was expensive, and for the record, I do very well for myself. If I thought it was costly, I can only imagine the average San Antonio citizen. It would have been awesome to grab a beer or cocktail but unfortunately they are still waiting their license to sell alcohol. Now when it comes down to the actual racing, WOW!!!!!! The carts are freaking fast! This is no bumper car crap where you're inching across a speedway! This is full fledged speeding indoors! My buddies and I had a great time!!!! We did get to witness a rowdy accident where two carts took a turn to fast and one cart ended up on another and the ambulance had to be called! Drive at your own risk! You do sign a very lengthy waiver so just know , if you come here, it can be a lot of fun, but if you die, they ain't liable. I guess my main complaint is the pricing and lack of alcohol. Very unsafe. In both races, the speeds of our carts were throttled. No one was bumping one another or driving unsafe. The second race, they throttled my cart which stopped my cart mid turn. Causing another cart to collide into mine, going over the safely bumper and hitting my knee on their tire. No one was off track or turned to throttle our carts. This track is HUGE! The lot it's on is ginormous as well! Signs are huge and driving pass the fwy, it just pops out in your face. Whenever I drive by it at 5AM heading to my externship at the hospital, part of me just wants to turn in...then the "adult" me reminds me it's not time to play (booooooo!!). The track is great and I absolutely loved it! The times I've gone have been on the weekday pm, so it's not crazy packed and I've had the pleasure of racing several of the top dogs here. The drivers here are polite and considerate in their racing etiquette, so it's been pleasurable every time. The staff has been great too and stays attentive to the track the entire time. They do seem a bit understaffed even with the few racers. I remember waiting several minutes for a staff member to get me into the next race. Even after then, I had to wait a good 15 minutes before being able to race despite the lack of people. I think they need to work on transitioning from one race to the next more efficiently by multitasking in prepping people while finishing the current drivers. I'm hoping the weekends aren't like this; otherwise, it'd probably be miserable. Anyway, I can't wait to come back to this track next time I'm back in San Antonio! Went here for belated father's day night out on Tuesday. Pricey, but worth the smiles. We got 3 races for $39 special that day( normally each race is $20). If first time going, you also have to pay $8 member fee. Hubby had a blast. Huge smile on his face. Our kids (20 and 22 yo) raced with us. Got here at around 7:30pm. Very short wait (15 mins), they have pool table, air hockey and other games to pass time, or watch current race. Limited food/drink options at snack bar, so I recommend eating before you go. They email results to you which is nice. Even though the race was quick, we (40 somethings) tuckered out after 2 races and are saving the 3rd race for another night. read more

Interesting reviews given on this.... this place is a more give or take each time you visit. Yes the wait time can be little excessive; however, remember going on a weekend during the summer may not be the best choice. That's like ordering a pizza 30 minutes before the Superbowl and then complain that your given delivery time is 2 hours. So let's get the rundown... 1. Fast cars, really fast.... you can probably do burn-outs if they would let you. (they won't, so don't try.) 2. It's LAP TIME, unlike most go-kart establishments where your track is basically Mario Kart (without bananas) you can't race head-to-head. There is no slipstream, or bumping, or 3 WIDE. It's based on how fast YOU complete a lap. 3. Short people will have difficulty, me. I'm thankful for the employee that helped me. She kindly brought me special metal plates that made it easier to reach the pedals. I barely cleared the adult height requirement of 4' 10". 4. The race moderators can be cool, strict, or lackadaisical. They're like refs, you can't say you've never seen a game where a ref missed a call or seemed like they called every foul known to man. Sometimes you can get a way with a nudge or two, but don't push it. 5. It's fun to do at least once.... yes it's pricey. Since it's here, you should just try it once. Unless you're deathly afraid of go-karts then don't. 6. Go with a group of friends. Try to go in a group, we had 8 people. I believe they allow 12 on the course, maybe 10. If you go by yourself, then you have to deal with other drivers who probably aren't comfortable with this type of operation. So there's my 6 comments about indoor kart racing. Hopefully, for those people who have never been, it gives a little more insight on what to expect. The biggest thing to remember is that it's based on LAP TIME not actual head to head racing. One more thing, when you get there and wait, watch others race. Look at where they take the turns and what the refs check for. Strategize. read more

Was so much fun! I have never raced a go kart before except at Disneyland, which doesn't count. My husband came with me and he can race anything as long as it has at least 2 tires. We both had a blast! The cars were electric, but they were still super quick. I wasn't expecting much when I walked in, but the staff was very professional and fun. I went here for a kid's birthday party (8-12 yrs old) from Noon until about 6pm. Very clean facility overall, even the restrooms were kept nice and clean at all times. If you look at the price it might be expensive...but this isn't your typical lawnmower go-karts at the carnival or on the side of the road by the beach. They provide a briefing for all riders, explain all the rules and how the karts work. Head socks were always clean and helmets did not stink or have any weird smell whatsoever. The karts were all in great shape and the track was not dirty. The layout of the track was very nice and challenging. I had lots of fun during the Adult race session, the karts are fast and very accurate with handling. Great experience overall! For those complaining about the wait...they have a great system and schedule on how to get people to race on the track. Don't expect to be on the track every 10 minutes if you come with your significant other and just walk-in. The staff was very friendly and polite. There's arcades if you get bored or don't want to race...very comfortable seating, which I hope they add a few more sets of couches and the taller stools on the outside for better viewing. Food selection isn't the best...it will do it's job as far as you having something to eat, but don't expect a full blown restaurant experience. If I had the money to spend...this is definitely a good spot to go. It's not in the greatest area of San Antonio location-wise, but it's not hard to find or get to. I went here this past weekend for my boyfriend's birthday and everyone had a lot of fun. When you arrive you register on a computer. The "license" is $6 and one race is $19.99. On the weekends they have a special where you can do three races for $50. One race is 10 laps and 10 drivers can race at a time. They have a sitting area with couches and tables where you can wait until it's your time to race. They have a snack bar and video games which I think would make this place great for younger kids or families. Once they call your name they review the safety information and everyone gets their head socks and helmets. Since we came earlier in the day we didn't have to wait that long between races which was nice. I was a little too short for the adult kart but they were nice enough to give me blocks to help me reach the pedals. I was really tempted to ask if I could race in a junior kart which would have been the perfect size for me! Haha. Our group had a fun time racing around the course. Took 2 friends from Germany there to run a few laps. Got there when they opened & were the only 3 customers in the building. Sign in/registration & payment was quick & easy (no line) & we got our brief for the sessions. Couldn't use my own cameras, so had to pay to use theirs - no big deal. First race (12 laps) was a blast. Cars were all great & had a good time. Second race, not so much. They changed cars & added a seat cushion to our lady driver - which made her too close forward & couldn't straighten her legs enough to drive comfortably. The car I was given was hopelessly bad, especially compared to the first one I drove - very loose steering, absolutely zero grip on any of the 4 wheels, it was literally like driving on ice. After the first 3-4 laps I had to stop & tell the flagger I could not drive this thing. She stopped my 2 friends on track while she swapped out my car. The replacement was better, not as good as the first car, but good enough. Having a bad car is one thing, it happens. But what disappointed me is that I lost half my race (6 laps) & my 2 friends lost 3 laps due to the swap, yet they started us up & finished out 12 lap session. We were the ONLY 3 people in the building. I can't believe they couldn't give us if not a make up session, at least let us run a few extra laps for what we missed. All we got was a "sorry about that" & then ignored. No refund, reimbursement or make up. Not even a "Hey, thanks for coming in, have a good day." Nothing. Was also told by them that cars get broken into outside - so not a great location. The employees seem like they're just killing time keeping the lights on. K1 is cheaper & closer to my house than Andretti's, but pretty sure I'll go there next time. Such a shame... read more
