Had a great experience here for date night. Although the wait was supposed to be an hour, it was actually pretty quick. They have the texting system, so we were able to walk down the street and grab a drink in the social zone while waiting for our table. The Rooftop is actually quite big with its own bar and several different sized tables. We got one of the best tables at the very front, water side. It was a beautiful night for it. The service was good - our server was very attentive, and gave good recommendations. We ordered the whitefish dip, which came with a variety of things to eat it with. It was very salty, though. We also shared the Hawaii Pig pizza which was delicious - no complaints there. Our drinks were all in cans - I'm not sure if that's all they serve on the Rooftop or it was a coincidence. They close your bill out right at the table with a handheld, which is convenient. read more

Very disappointed. One of the items we ordered from the shareable menu was soooo salty. By the time we were able to get service to tell the waitress we were told that because we touched the item they could do nothing on the bill. This place has gotten so BAD. I hadn't been there in at least 5 years so I'm not sure when these changes occurred. The place is now self-serve so there are no servers that take your orders. You can go get your sodas from a machine like at McDonald's and you order your food and drinks from the bar. There is one bartender working for the entire restaurant and they don't seem to know a lot about the food. They had multiple prints of the menus with the items being in different orders and having different ingredients although they were the same name. So which menu is correct? The pizza has changed, the dough was maybe made earlier and put in the freezer? I don't know but it did not taste good. This used to be the best pizza crust and the best pizza ever! I was charged for fresh mozzarella and can tell it was definitely not fresh. The margarita pizza had like pink tomatoes on it, something wrong with those tomatoes? It's now all $20 or more per Pizza, and I don't mind paying $20 a pizza but not if it is subpar. Not to mention the tables were covered in trash and clutter when we arrived because no one had cleaned them, I saw multiple managers walking around and they would not help the bartender who was knee-deep in people trying to order. Not worth the price! Then they have the audacity to ask for a 20 to 30% tip when you served yourself the entire time. read more

I was excited to be able to revisit this restaurant. We were promptly seated in one of the booths and greeted by our server. We settled for the Walleye BLT on a croissant bun for 13.99. The server taking our order asked chips, onion rings or fries. We settled for the fries. The BLT was delivered to our table and looked really good, that was until I tried to cut the sandwich in half. The knife would not cut through the bun! What a mess my sandwich became. Long story, both of us were so disappointed with our lunch and then to find out that everything is al la cart made this stop our biggest mistake. read more

Excellent personal sized pizza and a fun rooftop deck in downtown GH. Their margarita pizza is a favorite.

I really wanted to like this place. It was extremely busy on a summer Saturday night and it was very loud and crowded as we waited for a table. There were a lot of families with small children. It seemed everyone who wanted to eat at The Kirby House but had kids went upstairs instead. The menu is pretty small, which is nice, and there were plenty of great pizza toppings to choose from. I wasn't too hungry and wanted something simple so I opted with the margarita pizza. Three of us each ordered our own pizza. They were perfect for two people to share or one with leftovers, and I love leftovers. Our pizzas took a pretty long time to arrive, and when they did, they were lukewarm. The cheese on top had congealed a bit and obviously had been sitting out for at least 10 minutes. It wasn't all melty and gooey like it should be. We asked they be put back in the oven for a bit and our waitress was nice about it, but it definitely affected my opinion of the place. When they arrived again, they were nice and hot, but I wasn't too impressed with my pizza. It was decent, mediocre wood-fired pizza, but nothing special. The crust, sauce and cheese were good but, again, nothing that stood out. I wouldn't come back. read more

This is the upstairs of the Kirby House; casual and less expensive ( though not cheap- about $13-14 per individual pizza). Great pizza! Ordered six different pizzas; many nit-picky orders; they got it all right and all the pizzas were delish! Good drinks! Friendly service. Yum! It would be easy to miss this place, because it's in the upper part of the Kirby building. I'm so glad I found it. They have a wonderful outdoor patio that overlooks the water. They also have live music out there some days. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of live music, but here I actually liked it because it wasn't so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. We ordered the hummus for an appetizer, which was good but I'd say it wasn't any better or different than any other hummus platter you can get at a restaurant. The pizza selection is good and it was tough to decide which one to get. I ended up getting the Maui pizza, which is basically a hawaiian pizza with pepperoni added. It was SO good. I wish I'd had room for dessert and/or drinks, because they offer two dessert pizzas: a berry pizza and a bananas foster pizza. They also have a martini menu that looks delish. read more

The good: K2 is a wonderful place to watch the sun go down and to see the boats coming in from the lake. We've tried a few pizzas and they have all been excellent. The service has always been good and the drink menu is pretty solid. You can sit at the tables or at the bar if you're flying solo or with a friend. I've always found the men's bathroom to clean and well-kept. This place is kid-friendly. They even have an elevator if you don't want to lug a stroller up the stairs or if have difficulty climbing a few flights of stairs. The bad: The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because the inside reeks of nasty carpet. When I say reeks, I mean in a fraternity house sort of way. I know the building is old, but step up people, go with hardwood floors. I would give this place 5 stars if they pulled up the carpet. Pro tip: take the stairs on the side of the building up to K2 and avoid having to walk through the interior. read more

Aside from the overpriced food and $3 refills on drinks, the waitress was very nice. We grew up here in Grand Haven and have visited the Kirby upstairs and downstairs never having any serious problems, but tonight I am ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED. I am a vegan and very specifically ordered my pizza to be all vegetables and no cheese, but when I bit into my third slice of my personal pizza I tasted something rather funny. And it was a piece of ham! I haven't eaten any meat in over four years and to bite into a piece of animal flesh made me absolutely disgusted. I am now quite nauseous feeling and disappointed, we not be returning. I work in food service currently and have never had this happen to any of my customers so obviously the cooks here are not very attentive! read more

One of the best pizza places in town. But not your usual one. It is located above the best food place in town. It is the most busy in the summer because not only is it mainly out side, the outside is a very well decorated patio. It also comes with a great view of the Grand River. It is also awesome for watching the sun set while eating dinner. They also have a optional indoor setting. I gave it a 5 stars because we have never had any problem ever there. Notice: Never eat hear during Coast Guard Fest. and go ride on of the rides. I have had a bad experience with a friend. read more

We took our 3 small kids here and we had a nice meal. We didn't realize the pizza's would be so small, but since we were there with our kids we were not going to wait for another one. The margarita and veggie ones we tried were very good. Both DH and I thought their beer selection left a bit to be desired. The service was great, and so was the decor. Stopped by here our first night in town as we saw a stairway to what appeared to be a roof-top bar. Sure enough it was and a great place it is. Kids behind the bar and in front were fabulous and great service. Had a drink at the bar and really enjoyed hearing the staff interact with customers. Were there this weekend with a party of 8 people. The pizzas were very good but the service was TERRIBLE! No one at our table ever got a drink refill, the waitstaff seemed to disappear. It was busy but not packed for a Saturday night. After we tracked someone down to bring our checks after the meal, they disappeared again with our credit cards and cash. 30 minutes later we went to the bartender again to track down our waiter to bring back our change and credit cards. Best thin crust pizza in Grand Haven by far. The crust is thin, but thick enough to hold all that you top it with. The crust also has great flavor. Many topping options that are all great. You can even change up the sauce and cheese. Oh my gosh, the cheeses are always great and they don't skimp. They don't skimp on toppings either. When you ask for garlic, it's actually large cloves. I am not rating the actual restaurant or the food, but the restaurant policies and their phone manners. Whenever I'm in West Michigan, I get together with a group of old friends along the lake shore. Because there are eight of us, some of whom drive 50 miles for our get-togethers, we only meet where we can make reservations. This restaurant refuses to reserve an outdoor table, even on a week-night. I would have paid an advance deposit to hold a table, but the gal on the phone hung up before I could even propose that. We would only request an outside table for nice summer evenings; other times, we would eat inside. However, even though it would have been the perfect central location for our group (several dinners per year), Kirby apparently doesn't want our business. read more
