My dog had been receiving treatment for a severe ear infection for approximately 15 days and this visit was his third appointment for the same issue. The appointment was prepaid as part of his ongoing care. Due to a time-zone error between California and Arizona, we arrived approximately 45 minutes late. Despite the fact that this was a continuation of care and my dog was experiencing active discomfort, no medical accommodation, alternative solution, or partial treatment was offered. We were instructed to leave and reschedule. As a result, my dog left the facility without receiving care and still in pain. Following this visit, we were notified that our dog was terminated from all future care at North Valley Pet Hospital. The stated reason was an alleged violation of the hospital's "zero tolerance" policy regarding harassing staff on social media, based on a review I wrote describing my experience. The review was not abusive, did not target any individual staff member, and reflected my personal account of events. Regardless, the outcome was that the patient--an animal--was denied future medical care. Using a social media policy to justify terminating veterinary care, particularly for an animal undergoing active treatment, raises significant concerns regarding professional judgment and ethical standards. While staff interactions were not overtly rude, they were rigid, transactional, and lacked problem-solving or compassion in a medical context. Upon receiving my dog's medical records, I also noted that the prepaid appointment for the denied visit was not refunded, despite no services being rendered. This experience demonstrated a clear prioritization of administrative policy over animal welfare. Based on our experience, we would not return and would not recommend this facility to anyone seeking compassionate, patient-centered veterinary care.

That was my first problem. Second problem is, the word trim could be replaced with HACKING. Indiscriminately using clippers on her black nails, which is already dangerous because it's hard to tell where the quick is, and lo and behold she cut at least one too short. Immediately there was blood, which she tried to say was HERS!! She wouldn't have told me if I hadn't seen it myself! Third and final strike. I said we do them at home, we use grinders, and was being ignored while listening to commentary that they were practically grown into her feet (give me a break). I just wanted to get my dog back so I tried not to throw a fit and that was my subtle way of trying to say "we do them, you dont need to". I am horrified by the fact that if I hadn't seen the blood that she tried to hide, she wouldn't have told me. I am just shocked by the lack of respect, care, and transparency - I know mistakes happen, but this could have been avoided. If she'd had the respect to ask about performing additional services on my dog before just deciding to do them (would have said no), been mindful of taking small snips once she took it upon herself to just do things I hadn't asked for (or switched to a grinder - standard practice for dogs with black nails), and after making this unfortunate mistake she should have told me what she did instead of trying to lie about it!! Even just from a veterinary care standpoint, I NEED TO KNOW! What foot, what nail(s)!? It's very distressing to think that our well-cared-for, trained, and loved dog may not have been treated with the same level of care. To the owner, If animals are not being cared for properly, this is not the right line of work for you. The environment is also extremely loud, making it difficult to communicate with staff you can barely even say your pet's name and be heard. To other pet owners it would be best you find another place to take your pet.

Bella barely ate because of her bad tooth, so I agreed to the dental procedure hoping it would help her regain weight and energy. Instead, her condition continued to worsen. Looking back, nearly all of the symptoms I was worried about were ultimately caused by a parasitic infection that another veterinarian later diagnosed and treated. What is frustrating is that I am not a veterinarian. I brought Bella in specifically because I did not know what was causing her symptoms. I trusted that a trained professional would investigate why my cat was losing weight and becoming lethargic. Instead, I was left believing her dental issues were the cause while the actual problem went untreated. When I finally sought care elsewhere, the parasite was identified and treated, and Bella improved. As a pet owner, it is difficult to understand how the symptoms that concerned me most were not recognized or investigated sooner. I don't expect perfection from any veterinarian, but I do expect a veterinarian to look beyond one problem and consider the whole animal. My experience left me feeling that Bella's declining condition was not taken seriously enough, and I hope other pet owners ask questions and seek a second opinion if they feel their concerns are not being addressed.
