I need some eggs for my baking, cooking, boiling... ehhh... I need me some LOCAL eggs!! Wifey and I don't like getting mainland eggs when there are good local egg farms here on Oahu. There's the Peterson's in Wahiawa and... OH YEAAAH! There's Ka Lei Eggs! Hey wait a minute! I thought they were on Waialae, but no they moved to Waiakamilo in Kalihi. Ohh sweet! Even better cause I work near by!! We usually go on Saturdays jus before they close. There's always 2 ladies there when we walk in. Nice cool room with huge fridges in the back. There's a few tables in front with the 2 tray packs with 18 on each tray all neatly tied up with the string. They do take CC, which is a plus for me since I almost never carry cash. The last several times we came here we got the regular medium white 2 tray special which is about $15 or the XL whites. This time we got the XL browns for $20 for 2 trays. We usually go thru these in about 3 wks depending how much I make bread/buns/egg salad/etc. The ladies there are very helpful and patient when you can't decide which kine to buy. When we don't feel like driving all the way down to Petersons or if traffic is nuts out that side, we come here since it's closer to work and home. We've always been in and out when we've come to buy eggs. They are open on the weekdays and Saturdays, which is super helpful since we work during the week. When you walk in, there's a price list based on size, color and how many you want. They do have egg specials when you buy more. We normally get white Extra- Large eggs ($13 for a tray) but they had a special when we went, 2 trays of Extra Large white eggs for $12. That's 60 eggs! Buy Local! Support Local! I've always been an avid supporter for local products especial fresh grown items here in hawaii. Their newest location is right next to Alley Katz Karaoke on Waiakamilo. They used to be located on Kalihi St. for as long as I could remember but recently moved to this location not too long ago. There's ample more parking spaces than there was at the old location. We needed to get bundle of eggs for a party we were prepping and thought this place would be perfect. I always look for tray combo deals they have listed under their specials and there was a deal going on for slightly crack eggs that was only $10 for 3 trays, totally 90 eggs. That's pretty much $.11 an egg. You can't get any cheaper than that. The slightly cracked eggs are perfectly fine just as long as you don't boil them, purposely meant for your everyday home use type of eggs. I also bought the jumbo egg deal that was 2 trays for $20 just in case we needed to boil eggs for any of the dishes than needed to be made. Each tray comes with 30 eggs. The workers there are very friendly and always help me decide which deal is best to get. The menu has different types of eggs you can buy but I just get the cheapest deals since eggs are eggs to me. Too much plastic packaging that doesn't even work! I got grade A eggs in the plastic carton because it was the cheapest and local. Come to open the carton and find so many layers of plastic and one egg had cracks in it. I tried take it out and it broke in the carton and spilled everywhere. Won't come loose so I have to scoop out the egg with my fingers. Go back to cardboard and grade your eggs accurately, these are B quality, all the shells are thin. Save the 'aina! read more

Awesome place to get fresh island eggs. If they have it, I will normally get da large organic eggs. According to da Nana at the shop, the organic eggs taste better. Of course, it's pricier but I agree with her, it does taste better and no complaints from the Hubs, which is a plus plus. I like that they are open on Saturdays till 200pm. Sometimes, they also have special deals on the eggs as well. From time to time, I've seen them have other items like apple banana or papaya for sale. While trying to satisfy my mom's desire to eat jumbo sized eggs, I stumbled upon Ka Lei Eggs on yelp. I read through some of the reviews to gauge the pricing and their daily offerings but it's easier to go in person to check it out. On that particular day, two trays of jumbo eggs (white) were on special for $20. The woman working let us know that one tray was approximately $13 (and something cents). I'm under the impression that the pricing on the wall indicates ONE tray and not two. People have been saying that it is cheaper than costco but two trays at Costco will run you around $15-$16. If the prices on the wall indicate one tray prices, two trays of medium eggs will be around $20 (listed at $10 each)? I'm not sure though, the prices were confusing and when I asked, I ended up getting even more confused. The daily deals are always different and they're worth checking out. The jumbo eggs we got for $20 were definitely a good deal, especially since the eggs itself were noticeably bigger than our usual pickups from costco and samsclub. They do offer specials on checked eggs if you don't mind a few flaws here and there. So here's my main beef. I buy one flat of jumbo eggs and I end up with a gallon and a half of eggs. Why do I measure my eggs that way? Because I preserve them in salt water using an old Chinese method my grand uncle taught me that he learned during the plantation days. So when I pay over 13$ for a flat, I expect a gallon and a half, or thereabouts, give or take an egg. Went home and emptied my eggs into a gallon. They fit perfectly. Damn it. That means, I paid almost 14$ for 1/3 less eggs than I did the last time. Honestly, try to trust those thieving women there and you might as well cut your own throat. Arbitrary, iffy determination as to "JUMBO" size is just downright cheating. You know what? I suggest selling those damned eggs by the weight. I asked one of the client, a woman, short Filipina with short curly hair wearing eyewear. She gave me a stern tone, "You can't use your butt to open the door?".You can't simply help a customer when I came shopping and helping a small business during this pandemic?!
