I want to give it more stars but I have my reasons. I don't want to put down any business especially small businesses in there. There are a ton and they are all fun. It's just extremely congested and sometimes too busy inside. Cleanliness can be an issue for some but for the most part I'm buying vegetables and fruit and that's enough for me. I used to take my knives to be sharpened in this area but this review is just for the vendors I shopped at. I needed papaya, fresh vegetables and fruits. I saw many vendors that share the same items so sooner or later if you become a regular you will have your favorite vendor you will lean towards. They have vendors that sell already prepared mainly Filipino foods and desserts. They have vendors that sell you fresh fish and seafood as well as fresh meats. I always go to farmers market but I decided to start shopping here. It's convenient for what I was looking for. I see I can buy seasonings and noodles (dry packets) as well as many other things. I will return again when I'm running low on stuff. The prices aren't terrible but not that inexpensive either. You can find some bargain vegetables that aren't pretty but for $1 a piece it's good if you're using them up that day. I say try and go around and see what you can find. Plenty of convenient parking. Nearby outside there's Kamehameha bakery, sugoi'a and other eateries. Nearby is Costco and Costco gas and Home Depot so you can't go wrong. read more

Good selection of Filipino foods and fresh produce without having to go to Chinatown. Your can price shop between the produce stands and find some great deals. Some vendors even have $1 bags of off-grade produce. This helps especially when you just need a small quantity of something or you just want to try something new. Service at the stalls is good and speedy. There's the typical fish market smells and wholesale produce store vibes, so don't come expecting Safeway or Foodland ambiance. read more

Great place to get produce at reasonable prices. I get my papayas and dragon fruit here when they are in season. Theres also a fish and meat market area in the back as well as ready made Filipino food/snacks. It gets crowded on weekend mornings but so worth it in my opinion! Located at City Square next to Chuckee cheese's they have many different produce vendors from farms here on the islands and they also have fresh & frozen Seafood vendors and Fresh Pork vendors, besides the 2nd hand clothing vendor towards the back of the building before restrooms and a Filipino restaurant for take outs. It was my first time here the other day. My mom likes to come here, so the hubby and I drove her. I was surprised to see how huge this place is and all the items they sell. The marketplace is made up of small individual stalls. They sell everything from produce, meat, seafood to groceries. My mom likes to get fruit. I'm not sure if she buys anything else. Some of the prices are cheaper than Chinatown and others are more than Chinatown. You just have to know what you're getting. I like to drink Milo. The bag was $19.99 here. Similar to the downtown Honolulu Chinatown fish and vegetable merchants, you will find merchants selling produce, seafood and some meats. There are dry goods also. Located in the City Square off Dillingham and Kohou Streets, you will find The Marketplace. Similar if not a duplicate of what you would find in downtown Chinatown are produce, ethnic foods and the like for sale. My take is (as a climate control person) The Marketplace is easier and more comfortable to shop at. Parking readily available in the City Square parking lot. OK, you may have to walk some but, parking is available and free. My most recent quest was for chives. Can you imagine? NO CHIVES and I stopped in at least 4 times in the recent days. BUT I got me a bunch of the best watercress you can get on the island and for $3.50!!!!! Convenient by location and coupled with the other merchants (Kam Bakery, Young's Market, Utage etc) your journey to The Marketplace can turn into an almost all day shopping experience! read more

Grocery shopping in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... My cousin is in town from Indonesia. He usually eats a lot of fruits, so I thought he'd like to get some - because he's here until the end of the month (October). Located next to Chuck E. Cheese at City Square, this marketplace is kind of like an indoor farmer's market with many vendors, free shared parking, and air conditioning! There's a variety of fresh produce, fish, frozen foods, and more! It's safer (the floor is smooth and there are no curbs nor crosswalks)... and it's cleaner (no strange odors) than going to Chinatown! I even brought my mom here, and she got some papayas and bananas. My cousin didn't buy anything because of the prices. Well... You're paying for convenience here. You don't have to drive all the way out to the farms in Kahuku, Kunia, and Waialua! Gosh! The freshness is great! There were some fish that were still alive! I'll be back! I only come when my Mama's in town, otherwise I don't come here at all. I prefer to bring her here when it first opens only because the parking lot can get unsafe with people walking by as others are backing up or speeding to get a closer parking spot. Once inside though, the sea of produce and people can get a bit overwhelming as well. Everyone hovering, scooting, pushing, cutting all at once to get their items can get annoying and a bit claustrophobic. Therefore while she's getting her groceries, I pick a spot to stand and I don't move until we're off to the next station. Then at the fish station there are others who refuse to wear the gloves or plastic to pick up their fish and end up using their bare fingers, touching everything afterwards can get unsanitary. read more

First of all I'm aware of City Square on Yelp and the best description I could give is if you could gather some of the local favorite places and put it in one area...this is it and the best part is that no two businesses are alike. The Marketplace at City Square is another whole different world not many mall, shopping center, complex has ever all with the convenience of ample free parking just steps away! Filled with an insane amount of produce, meat and seafood vendors all selling mostly asian items they also have food from Pinoy One and what I visit frequently is AFrames Tokyo where I get my knives expertly sharpened in literally minutes. Throughout the pandemic there has been struggles though I've never seen this area get affected as it's been taken great care and support from the locals who show the love back as this marketplace has been a hub for grub. This Yelp page for the location must be new but my original photos and review are under City Square Shopping Center. I come here often for fruits, veggies and asian good. They're open daily and you can find a wide range of affordable vegetables, local fruits, meats, fresh seafood/fish, Asian goods (dried noodles, herbs, teas, chips/snacks, sauces, beauty products & more), fresh made Filipino food, and frozen products. They even have a knife seller and clothing vendors as well. All vendors take cash and card but you must spend a minimum of $10 to use card to pay. Cleanliness is alright because it is a marketplace, but it's cleaner than walking around China Town.. There are weird smells when you walk in because of the fresh fish and meat vendors. Vendors are generally nice and helpful. Most of them are older Filipino ladies, but everyone speaks English well. There's a restroom located in the back toward the the left side. I recommend bringing your own personal shopping cart or strong grocery bag because they only provide handle-less bags and it can get heavy. I use a small foldable cart when I shop here and always leave with a ton of groceries. My favorite go-to's are for the papayas, green leafy veggies, sweet potatoes, onions and bananas. We discovered this place through YouTube and went to check it out. It's an indoor market with fish, produce and Asian grocery items. There was a number of different booths with a variety of sea food to pick from. We were busy on our phone trying to pick the right fish and how to prepare it. It was an interesting journey into a place we've never been before, with easily over 10 different fish and multiple produce venders. Mixer of local caught fish and local grown produce and that which came from mainland. The Asian grocery items coming from different countries gave the shopper a multitude of choices. It was a little drive to visit the marketplace so it won't be a regular trip, however we will be back with more knowledge of the right type of fish for our palate. read more

Wish I have found out about this market earlier! Similar to wet market in Chinatown but much larger and cleaner. It's called Chinatown Market Place but I didn't hear a word of Chinese when I was there. Figured owners are probably Filipino, Vietnamese or Thai? Definitely reminds me of markets in South East Asia. You can find a great selections of locally grown fruits and vegetables there. The quality is so much better than what you can find in supermarkets and more affordable. The colors of the produce are so much more vibrant. They aso have stalls that sell fresh fish, shellfish, meat. Lots of Asian sauces and seasonings to choose from. From now on it's gonna be my grocery shopping Mecca! Most of the owners accept credit cards with a minimum purchase of $10 so make sure you have some cash with you. 6-16-21 We decided to browse in here as I had looked up farmers markets and this one was open today, Wednesday. It was described as cleaner than Chinatown Markets so we entered. We were expecting Chinese offerings but they had many items that seemed Filipino like lechon, snacks, etc. There were many vendors selling fruits like papayas and mangoes, vegetables like won bok, beans, bitter melon, squash, green onions and more. I saw one booth with limited clothing. I told hubs good thing we're wearing masks cuz the smell of so many kinds of fish, seafood, raw meat, pig's head, etc. pervaded the entire interior space. We ended up only stall gazing cuz the veggies would have wilted since we were headed to the beach. The papayas especially seemed cheaper than Times. The ungchoy looked good too- next time. read more

Chinatown, what else is there to say. We came looking for dim sun. Stopped off along the market area which is on a main strip. There's markets scattered throughout chinatown. It's not big, a couple of blocks radius. Main area, market place has the open air vendors selling all their fresh produce and goods. If you walk inside some of the shops, you'll have all the butcher with their meats and seafoods. Cool place to walk around and check out different cultures, food and whatever. If you're not a fan of the real chinatown, this place maybe an alternate place for you to shop for fresh vegetables, meat, and fish. It's located at City Square Shopping Center. The entrance to this place for parking maybe congested but there's lots of free parking stalls available. We did have to stand in a line for about 10 minutes before we were allowed inside. Once you get inside, you're welcomed by many different vendors that are full of fresh vegetables, meat, and fish. I was impressed that this market place was clean and tidy. It's a pretty big place too. Vendors are eager to help you and not too pushy. We got some local fresh vegetables and Uhu fish but unfortunately it wasn't local. I will forever come here & been coming here since I was small with my mom. This is the place to go for all your cooking needs. Literally everything. From fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, sauces, spices you name it. I don't know if they still do it on certain days but they were having a lone outside so not too much people go in at once. PERKING: Parking is HUGE but it does get really busy in this one. Mostly during lunch because all the other food places & barber shops & pet stores here. So don't bring your big wide cars, the stalls are pretty tight too. The prices here too are the cheapest if not you can go to the actual chinatown in downtown if you know where that is. I decided to see if this building had a supermarket in it and saw people walking out with bags of produce so I went to investigate. I didn't grow up knowing about Chinatown markets. I was in my 20s when I first went in one downtown and saw pig heads and stuff. One always recalls the smell of fish and garlic, strange produce and labels you can't read. When I lived in Bali these markets were the norm. It was a rush of memories triggered by walking into this marketplace. Fish so fresh they're still flopping around. Gosh compared to Safeway prices are 1/3 the price. I wonder if you could barter. I just grabbed my veggies and left. I'd definitely come back if I needed produce going home from work. The Chinatown away from Chinatown, or so it seems. I haven't been here in many years since I usually just go to Chinatown. But I see many positives of coming here instead. Chinatown Market Place is located in the City Square Shopping Center along Dillingham Blvd. There's plenty of parking, and this marketplace opens till 6pm, and 5pm on Sundays. The free parking and the later closing hours are definitely perks. When I walked in, there are many produce, meat, seafood, and dry and prepared goods stalls. However, everyone of them are Filipino or Vietnamese owned, so all the produce and goods are leaned towards those clientele, and there's no Chinese produce or products. But that doesn't mean there's nothing good to buy. There's balut available! I actually recognized several of the owners as many of them used to be in Chinatown. There's still a good amount of quality and fresh vegetables and fruits sold here. Even the dollar bags are really good quality and still fresh. The prices are just slightly more expensive than Chinatown, but not much to make any difference. Many stalls have the $5 for six dollar bags of produce. Good deal! I grabbed some okra, eggplant, cucumbers, and skinny eggplant. Overall, a really good marketplace if you just need produce used specifically in Filipino or Vietnamese cuisine, but of course there are some overlapping things that Chinese use too. Definitely come here because I'm sure there are items here that you don't find in Chinatown. read more

I haven't been here since before CoVid. Went shopping here yesterday. I was quite surprised that it's almost double the size and more vendors since I was last there. I loved the variety of vegetables and especially the cost. One vendor had pre bagged veggies with a cost of 7 bags for $5.00. Yes 7 bags!!! I purchased 14 bags with some additional purchases. The vegetables were fresh and beautiful. Many times I've gone to open markets and the veggies were a bit old and off grade. Several vendors offered Asian based products ie snacks, condiments, etc. I was very happy to find bean curd strips and bean curd sheets. There was many vendors offering meats and seafood. A vendor selling Filipino food and another selling baked goods. The place was also clean. For those afraid of the close proximity and unmasked. Don't go to this store as the cashier charge based on what they feel like charging you. Grabbed only few of the produce and all of a sudden it's $10 dollar same thing that happened when we grabbed one piece of pear, 2 green mango and the same cashier said that it's all the same price. I guess she would only give the correct price if you speak her dialect. Overall just be aware of stores that doesn't have a price on their items which should be illegal as sometimes they take advantage of you and I hope stores like that should just be forced to close if they can't be honest with prices. read more

This extension market is way cleaner than the Chinatown market. Wide variety of fruits and vegetables up to seafoods esp. fishes and pork meat. Not that crowded too and also it's air-conditioned place will give you comfort as you shop the place. Compacted with one place you don't need to go on one building to another as they are just in one place, so no hassle at all. A good place indeed to shop for Asian foods. read more

Chinatown Market Place is not located in Chinatown. They are located in one of the buildings at City Square Shopping Center. It is right next door to Chuck E Cheese's. Mom and I stepped foot into Chinatown Market Place after having lunch at Young's Fish Market. We took noticed of all the fresh fruits and vegetables near the main entrance. As we continued to explore the farmers market we came across vendors who sold fresh caught fish, crabs, chicken, beef, and pig. There are many vendors in the retail area. There was a section that had Filipino food items for sell. Another section had some household items and drinks. There was one vendor that sold cooked food as well. I noticed that the vendors in the Chinatown Market Place only accepts cash plus debit/credit as payments. EBT is not accepted at this location. Mom and I left the premises without purchasing anything. Mom said "wish they could accept foodstamps so I can purchase some fresh fruits." 39/100 read more

This hidden market place smells a lot better than it did a few months ago. It's also gotten more organized. Although they didn't have the soursop fruit I was looking for, they always have a big selection of other fresh produce and fish that I've never seen before. From bananas, to dragonfruit, to breadfruit and basil, this store has the feel of Chinatown without the scorching sun. They also have a section for different Asian sauces and snacks. Chinatown Market Place at City Square is a pocket of Chinatown located in Dillingham area. If you haven't been to this corner of City Square since the Market Place opened, you're in for a surprise. Aptly named "The Center of Hawaii's Food Universe," Chinatown Market Place is a collection of fruit & vegetable stands, as well as seafood and meat vendors located under one roof. Although it's considerably less square footage than Maunakea Marketplace in downtown Chinatown, you'll be able to find essentials at this destination. The stall listings on City Square Shopping Center includes: 7 sisters market Bain's Seafood Market Cabalen Food Group Island Green Lovan Farm Marvin Fresh Seafoods & Meat Rainbow Farm & Produce As you enter the Market Place, you'll quickly notice two parallel fruit & vegetable stalls facing one another. At first blush, the stalls seem to feature vastly similar goods, but after walking through once, you'll notice the niche items offered at each one. The seafood and meat stalls are toward the back of the Market Place. The seafood stall toward the back right corner had a noticeably fresher inventory with higher end fish such as onaga. The stall closer to the front emitted quite an aroma and the fish seemed to be less fresh than the other. Noticeably, there were two live catfish left out of water sold as "fresh." They were breathing, but they were also deprived of their fins. Poor fellas. There were ahi measuring no more than 24 inches in length for sale too. It's unusual to see ahi so small and seemed to be somewhat of a waste considering the ongoing shortage, but I'll just trust that these were there to meet local demand for smaller ahi. The cut blocks of fish did not seem fresh. I would not recommend the fish here over ones you can get in a local grocery store. I am confident in the quality of produce, but would need to get a trustworthy second opinion if/when shopping for fish here. In particular, I would visit the stall with the fresher stock and avoid the smelly one. read more
