Kaanapali golf doesn't take accountability for hitting people or cars with golf balls, my wife's car windshield got hit by a golf ball and shattered sending pieces of glass all over her and she almost got in an acciden. their insurance said they won't cover the damages because it's the golfer's responsibility not the golf course and they won't do anything about it. They run a very dangerous operation that's a real threat to our community on the westside of Maui. read more

My husband found a deal for this golf course and at first when we arrived I was very skeptical of this place. They don't have an actual building they have more of what looks like a trailer and it also looks kind of old and run down. However, once you look past that and get on the golf course the views are phenomenal. The course is actually really nice and so breathe taking. You definitely will enjoy it! They have two restrooms on the course. We decided to try out the food after and we enjoyed the food also!!! The best thing personally on the menu was the burger! Aside from the lady at the shop being a bit rude everything else was such a blast. read more

We were staying close by to this golf course and decided we wanted to try golfing in Maui. Sadly, we were not prepared...no reservations made weeks in advance and we did not bring our clubs. Not a problem! We called a day or two ahead of time to book a 10am tee time and to see about club rentals. Again, not a problem at all. We arrived about 40 minutes early to get our clubs and to purchase some balls. They gave us a bucket of balls to warm up with and then we were on our way. The clubs were decent too. Everyone here was very friendly and accommodating. This course is so beautiful! As you wind your way though the hills the views are spectacular. Keep in mind that it is hot! So please bring plenty of water and sunscreen. There were enough trees that at most holes we could park the cart in some shade. There are no bathrooms along the course. We had such a beautiful relaxing morning and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will see you again on our next trip! Aloha. read more

I was hitting some balls in the practice area and decided to see if I can hop on for a last minute twilight round. Pro shop was super helpful, got me out in a cart in less than 5 minutes. Course wasn't overly crowded, and I played a 2.5 hour round as a single walk on. There were a few groups I had to play through, but they seemed like they were here on vacation, not serious golfers, and were happy to let me by. Course was in great condition, enjoyed the no fuss experience. Looks like there are groups of juniors that regularly practice there, I would see them in the short game green the couple of times I was there. Could be a little crowded when they get in but some of them were good enough where it was fun to watch. read more

That was a ridiculous amount to pay for a course that is in horrible condition. The greens are terrible. They're either full of fungus or rot or something. Weeds are growing on the greens. It's absolutely unacceptable for such a high-end course. They're very strict about teetimes and about rescheduling And charge nearly $300 to play which is all fine and dandy if you've got an elite course! It was so disappointing. I would never go back there again that's for sure. I wish I took pictures so I could prove it to you but take my word for it. After the round was finished I talked to some of the cart guys and they said yeah it's pretty bad but they don't tell you that on the phone when you call. The next day we went to "the dunes" for less than 100 bucks and it was fabulous! I am told they had the Maui open there. read more

Play the Royal course it has beautiful views! Only issues is they wanted to charge for bottled water and the drink cart does not Carry beer? You have to buy it at the bar before you start your round. The golf shop also seems to be lacking in product and having played this course before it seems to be going downhill. The course still is beautiful and can be challenging to new golfers. read more

Booked a tee time at the on short notice online with no problem. I was playing as a single with my wife riding with me. Our tee time was 9:20 and we went off right on time! Caught a foursome after a few holes, but they were cool and let me play through. The rest of the round was awesome! Beautiful course, in great shape with beautiful Hawaii views! What a terrific day. After I got back to my hotel, I realized I had left my sunglasses in the golf cart. I called the next day and spoke to Kevin in the pro shop who took my address and mailed my glasses back to me! This is a super nice course. The staff was friendly and very professional. There are only 2 water hazard holes but plenty of sand traps however this course is still very forgiving if you slice of hook. It is a little costly, buts Hawaii. I highly recommend it. read more

I just want to start off by saying, I'm hardly a pro golfer. I just like to hit the links with friends and/or family, drink a few beers and create life long memories. So in my humble opinion the Kai course was perfect for me because of the price and the overall conditions. $144 for 18 holes works for me since a majority of the courses on the island are $$$. I golf this course every December with family and we always have a good time. I wish I could fault the course for my less than stellar play, but I cannot. Lol. They offer a free bucket of balls once the green fees are paid, which is cool. Roy's is also convenient if your interested in a beer, cocktail or food (before or after.) This particular morning I ordered a breakfast to go and it was ready and boxed up in 10 minutes. Not to shabby. In conclusion, unless its raining cats and dogs, the cart girl never makes an appearance, I hacked on the course all day, the greens were brown and I was golfing with zombies I'll continue to golf this course with a beer and a smile! WARNING to ALL PLAYERS: PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Yes, I can't stress my first comment above enough and I will explain in painful detail: Saturday, January 30th, 2021, my gf and I played the Royal course with a 1:40PM tee time. I'm leaving these details so the owners/management team responsible for this business can have as much information as possible. Prior to starting, the Starter asked if we'd be willing to join a couple of local gentlemen for our round. We politely declined and no issue was made of it. However, because of the slow play of groups in front of them, we had caught up to these gents by the start of the 3rd hold and joined them to make a 4-some. They were very pleasant to play with and we had no issues. The issue started after a few holes, the 2-some behind us hit a ball to within 10-15 yards of where we were on the course. We looked back and they didn't seem to acknowledge this so we assume it was just an honest mistake. However, within the next few holes, this happened a few more times. One of the gentlemen we were playing with even signaled back to the 2-some telling them this was unnecessary since they could see the groups in front were backed up too. However, this didn't deter them and once it happened again, my fellow player decided to call the club house to let them know the 2-some was in danger of hitting one of us with a golf ball, possibly traveling at hit speed which speaking from personal experience (and a dent in my right knee) I have direct experience of. What was disappointing was the club house said there wasn't much they could do other than send them a message on their cart to ask them to stop... seriously, that's all you can do to ensure the safety of your customers? I've been playing golf for over 20 years now and the job of both the club house and an on-course Marshall (btw, up to this one we had NOT seen a Marshall on the course) is to enforce safety rules as well as many of the other etiquettes of golf and I have never for once in all my years heard of a club house being reluctant to enforce safety. Oh and just for good measure, while the 2-some finally stop, they decided to hit one last time not just 1 ball but 2 balls to within 10 yards of the green on hole 18 WHILE we were still on it. To be honest, we were upset but we didn't let it dampen our mood... it honestly angered the two local gentlemen we played with even more and since they play here regularly, they proceeded to inform the staff of this once we turned our carts in. However, we were met with the same response from that staff member as with the call to the club house. And a few key points to recap, our tee time was at 1:40PM, we teed up a few minutes later at 1:45PM and finished the round before 6PM so we were by no means playing slow or causing a backup (I know a typical round is 4.5 hours so even by that standard, we had a fairly quick round). Even up to the 18th hole, the group in front of us was in the fairway when we got to the tee box. So to recap, we paid over $300 for me and my girlfriend to play only to put ourselves in physical danger at a course that we actually thought was great and for that reason, I'm giving this negative review. If a business is not willing to protect the clients they have, regardless of how nice their facilities are, then they do not warrant my business and I caution to everyone else looking to play here. Lastly, here's the kicker to all this... once we were done, we were waiting by the club house and one of the 2-some walked by to which I sarcastically said to her "appreciate you hitting into us a few times," which she seemed to ignored. Then a few minutes later, we see a black BMW pull drive out of the parking lot and the same woman yelling back "learn to play faster" which I had a pointed response to but won't share here... however, I think that just demonstrates the character of this person, you won't face me directly but you're willing to yell out in a very cowardly way as you're driving off? My parting comment, actually more of a challenge, to the business owner and management team (since based on other Yelp reviews, you seem to read): I have provided with a lot of information here, some of which you have direct control over and I'll leave it to you to see if you take action (enforce safety rules, ban players that blatantly put people in physical harm's way - you know my tee time so you know the 2-some's information behind us that kept hitting into us, or if you don't, then we will be telling all our golfing friends that visit Maui never to play here because you clearly don't care about the safety of your guests. The two courses are fun to play. The Kai is in worse shape than the Royal, the fairway bunkers are a joke on the Kai some are cracked hardened clay! The Kai also has no restrooms except 2 porto potties and sometimes they're nasty! They have friendly beverage cart ladies, as is the entire staff. My main disappointment is the lack of bottled water. For a green fee of over $228.00 for the Royal and $168.00 for the Kai, bottled water should be included. read more

As a new resident I've enjoyed playing one or both these courses twice a week since 11/2022. The staff are terrific, all of them. The guys at the bag drop and range are friendly and helpful, and the regular starter really keeps you informed and moves the line along. I'm a (very) senior golfer, hitting my driver 210-220, and shooting 80'sh from the "resort" tees. Every one of my rounds has been enjoyable, owing partly to the friendly pairings, my regular golf buddy, and Maui. Kai is a bit easier for me, but, I'm agreeing with some posters that it is in less wonderful condition than Royal. All the bunkers need attention (which, we are told, is scheduled to happen), the green and fringe maintenance can be spotty, and occasionally the crew aren't paying close attention to the golfers. Royal is always immaculate, and the views from both courses are spectacular. I live near Royal's 3rd green and often see golfers taking pictures back down from the green toward Black Rock and the ocean. in spite of no free bottled water, as another poster noted, there are plenty of cold water stations on the course. They are always filled and have plenty of cups. We have learned to bring our own bottle to refill as needed. In context (this being Maui and comparing to other courses here with similar views), the greens fees are in line and the conditions are always playable. But, here's the thing about Kaanapali: you can get reasonable tee times! That cannot be said about many other Maui courses. I'll keep playing here and encourage visitors to do the same. Fine course because it doesn't require leaving the resort area for the tourists. Not bad for full time residents too, for a non-championship style golf course. If you are a part time resident like many people are here (living here for 4-5 months of the year), it seems like they don't want your business. They charge you the same rate as the person visiting here once in there life staying at a hotel. At that price you're better off playing a world class course like Kapalua. read more

We come to Maui every year and my son and I typically play one of the Ka'anapali courses each year. We love the golf courses but this year the service dropped off dramatically. In the past golf included everything you might expect with a few enhancements like ball markers and waters. This year we got tees but no ball marks, there was no beverage cart the entire time, and the GPS on the cart didn't work. Also, as a resort course I would expect more than just jugs of water and paper cups out on the course. When you pay around $200 for a round of golf I would expect more than muni level service. I'd rather pay double at Kapalua and get the level of service one might expect. Step it up, Kaanapali. I recommend activities to many people each year but I will have trouble recommending the Kaanapali golf courses. read more

It had just been aerated, but we knew that going in We had an altercation on the first hole with a gentleman (using that statement lightly) that accused us of aiming a ball at him because he was walking along the side of the first hole with his dog. Now, we are not professionals and balls often go way ward. And why is a pedestrian strolling the course? Anyway he approached all of us screaming not So nice words. Scared the woman we were with so much that she was shaking. Approached our cart with devil eyes screaming and spitting Finally we got him to retreat. And he proceeded to pick up two of our balls and throw them at us! We reported this to the club house after our game, and basically got a simple sorry that happened! Rethinking going there again. I like to stay in or near Kaanapali so I've played these two courses 5 or 6 times each. They're both great, they have 3 round's for $429. Not bad if you want to play more that once or twice and much more affordable than Kapalua. Roy's restaurant and bar is there as well with the coldest draft beer you've ever tasted. read more

Absolute trash course that wouldn't know customer service or how to treat people respectfully with a set of instructions. Don't play here under any circumstances whatsoever - no matter how cheap or convenient it appears. There are much better courses on Maui -- see: Kapalua and Wailea, as 2 solid examples. Don't waste your time with this dump. They routinely defer maintenance of the course and good luck getting the drink cart to come around even once during a round. Management is nonexistent and you are directed to a vending machine in the bowels of the clubhouse if you have the audacity to show up at 9am a little hungry and/or seeking coffee. I understand that Hawaii is chalk full of tourists from the mainland and many of us want to play golf so, you'd expect the greens fees to be high. How high you ask? $195 for the low season. Pretty steep if you ask me based on the condition of the course. Look, it was a decent track but the greens were in pretty poor shape and the bunkers need a ton of work. The staff and people playing the track were super friendly though! It made for a really fun round post a couple drinks and me getting over the condition of the greens. I always feel like there should be a massive discount post aeration but, didn't get the nod. Oh well. Point being, it's an ok track with some spectacular views but, nothing to write home about. read more

My son and I played the Kai Course today and the course was in good shape, had plenty of challenges, and beautiful views. The practice range was fine and we were treated well by the cart staff. The reason why I give it a 3 is that we had 2 doubles behind us and a few singles, and being a father/son time we would have also liked to play in a twosome by ourselves but were never offered that option - especially when we were rushed by smaller groups behind us. This review is for the Assistant golf Pro Nick Ruiz. I was fortunate enough to take a clinic from Nick last week and was so impressed I signed up for an additional one and a private for a guest. I've played golf for years and like every long term golfer developed some annoying habits. Nick diagnosed my problems immediately and was able to tell me in simple terms how to start correcting them. If this course were located in lets say South Bend, Indiana, it would cost $200 less. It's not that the course is bad or anything, but compared with what else is available on the island for around the same price it just falls short. Let's start with the views, they were beautiful without question, but were they the best on the island? No. Course was in good shape, fairways and greens both were in good repair. Was it worth the price? No. There were a few interesting holes, but none were overly challenging, and not a one of them made me say "Wow." It's not that I didn't enjoy my round, I did. On the other hand, compared to other options on the island, you can spend your money better elsewhere. read more

PLAY ANOTHER COURSE! They are not keeping the course up the sand traps are unplayable as they have not been maintained in YEARS and they will then tell you to move your ball out of the traps! The greens were not mowed around the edges and they told me that they have A LOT of LAZY people that work there! There are better courses on Maui to play that take care of there course! read more

Have played both Kai and Royal twice with son in law or daughter. The views are spectacular, calming with gentle winds. Players on course have been kind to us new players. What can I say the staff here is exceptional. Helpful, kind great people. We have also played soccer golf. Too much fun! 5.0 green fees during Labor Day weekend - Patriot's Day for three days $50 each day 4.0 Royal course - the 18th hole is a mind game. Water, water, water. 4.5 Kai course - yippee for ladies There are two courses - 1)Royal and 2)Kai. Mostly par 4s. And the par 3s are long. I felt like I needed my sand wedge and putter for each par3 as I was always too short. Royal has rolling hills, fairly open course, and can be windy. Kai is flatter and not as wide as Royal. Easier course for the ladies. It was very busy on Saturday due to the $50 green fees. The Royal course was backed up. Took us five hours to complete. Restrooms on the course. I got a hot dog off the snack cart at 3pm. I took a look at it and said ugh. Am I gonna get food poisoning? I ate it and kept my fingers crossed. In the pro shop I asked who supplys the food. Said the restaurant does. The next day we played the Kai course. No bathrooms but outhouses. We finished under 4 1/2 hours. We ate at the 19th hole which was Roys's Kaanapali. I asked to speak to the manager. I described my hot dog from the day before. He checked with the chef. As a result of the unappetizing hot dog, the manager comp'd us dessert. That made up for it. The course is centrally located. And the staff is very friendly. read more

This is a resort course. No water, drinks, coffee or anything on the course. No cart server came. The course was in terrible shape. The rough and the fairways were the same. The greens had divots from the previous day. Just not a well maintained course. When I said something in a polite manner, the golf manager said and I quote " I don't want to hear that sh*t". We had a 2:30 pm tee time and after 2 1/2 hours had not even teed off on hole #8! Our cart said that we were at least 15 minutes behind pace of play. The foursome ahead of us took a minimum of eight practice swings per hit and must have posted a 10 on every hole. Very frustrating! At $80 per person this is totally unacceptable! We've played other Muni's like Maui Nui and place of play was not an issue. Ka'anapali totally over books and it impacts all golfers on the course. As we passed hole #14 there were 11 carts stacked up waiting to hit! We never saw a course marshall out there to move things along. They obviously don't care. I guess they just feel like we are a bunch of tourists and not important. We play Troon Courses in Arizona and California and have never encountered this. Golfers beware, Don't play this course, We certainly won't!! read more

Golfed the twilight at the Kai Course at 1:05pm for $103 bucks with cart. Totally worth the wait for the discounted price. Course was well taken care of and there are some incredible views along the way. Pace was perfect, course wasn't over crowded or ppl playing up your ass. The carts are nice, have gps attached to em. Got there early to use the range before a round. It was being mowed at 8am and was therefore closed (any other place would have had it mowed well before opening). Course was nice, and the pace was fine. Golf cart locked up in the middle of a hole, 15min delay, no apology of any sort from the staff. This is basically a muni course with sky high rates. read more
