When I was a college student, I frequented Kababeque. All the vegetarian dishes I had were pretty good; they're not my first choice for Indian food, but certainly one of the better options along University Ave. However, the one thing that brings me back here whenever I visit from out-of-state is the samosas. I have never found samosas that are seasoned the same way as these! The potato filling is not sweet, and the spices that stand out are fennel, ajwain, mint, and turmeric. Ordered last night bc I was craving Indian food. I ordered online bc I had two small grumpy children with me and was hoping to just park and run in and grab the food to bring home. When I got there I had to wait in a long line only to find out that the order was "lost" (yet credit card was charged). The guy at the register was very nice but kept taking phone calls which further delayed the line. I showed him the paid order on my phone and the woman in the kitchen said she could make it up quickly. Ordered at 6pm for pickup at 6:15. Didn't get food until almost 7pm sadly. The samosa was very good but the Malai Kofta tasted like dumplings with acidic tomato sauce dumped on top. Definitely will not return. read more

The portions are large. Went for dinner and the two of us picked two dishes, each came with rice. They give you a lot of 1 thing. In Indian cooking there would normally be at least two different tastes to go with the rice. We split, so it was OK, but otherwise it is going to get boring. Indian food is just not my cup of tea for the most part. However, we were at an event at the Tucson Hop Shop and since this food truck was there and we were hungry I had to get something. I tried the chicken tacos and while I wasn't a big fan of the sauce I was impressed by the chunks of the chicken and the way it was cooked very well, still leaving it juicy. The tortillas were also not good, the rubbery not homemade style. The sauce actually just needed a little salt and just a little more flavor but I liked that while coated the chicken wasn't drowning in it. As for the service it seemed to be the husband running the show and the wife and kids were around too. He was very friendly towards us and the children were cute trying to entertain themselves. I love the Saag paneer medium spicy. So delicious. Probably one of the best places to get Indian food in Tucson.

Sauces are good I got the sampler kabob. Wasn't a fan of the lamb but the chicken tikka was cooked well.

Unsure why this place shows up as "halal" on Google when I search "halal food near me". While the girl at the counter assured me it's halal meat, there is no certificate or halal sign or any other indication it's a Muslim establishment. The place is cute with their Hindu idols and Indian decor, but I doubt the source of the "halal" meat. I'm sorry if I am mistaken but every place (like Dave's hot chicken) will display their certificate of halal meat near the counter or visible to the public. Otherwise it is misleading and deceiving if that isn't correct. Otherwise,this place is conveniently located! The Bollywood music is vibe. The place does have a strong smell of Indian food (as expected) so if you eat inside, your clothes will smell like it after you leave. Learned that the hard way.... In short: If you are a Muslim who eats halal only PLEASE reconsider or choose their vegetarian option if you're craving Indian food. I used to eat here maybe once a week, but now I try to avoid eating here. My friend received a meal here with a cockroach in it. He even has a picture of it. So ever since I saw that picture, I have been avoiding this place, which is sad because I used to love eating here. My friend used to eat here frequently as well, but he no longer eats here. I suggest Saffron instead, it's a nicer restaurant, plus I think they're owned by the same person I'm not sure. If you do decide to go here even with my warning, I suggest the Chicken Pasanda Spicy with some plain naan. read more

Food was not authentic Indian. Goat tikki masala was a tomato sauce with little flavor. The lamb korma tasted like a brown gravy instead of a rich cashew yogurt sauce. Bengain bharta also only tasted like brown sauce with a small portion. The meat portion sizes were adequate and tender. The flavoring was bland. The small space was noisy. Be warned, however, that the restroom door doesn't lock, and it's only accessible via a very cramped passageway, narrower than a wheelchair. I ordered chicken tikka masala, potato naan, a small salad, and an ice tea for lunch. It was $19 (before tip!) and served to me in styrofoam (even though I was eating in). The salad was inedible - shredded iceberg lettuce, 2 tomato slices, and a green pepper. The tikka masala sauce tasted like ketchup with hot sauce. The naan was strange and greasy. Bad customer service. I ordered delivery. The man on the phone was rude when I placed my order. When I received the delivery, he got one of the dishes wrong. I called to let him know, but he kept arguing with me about what I ordered..... like I told him the wrong item and didn't know what I wanted to eat?! The hospitality is on point and delivery times are quick. The rice is always cooked to perfection and they make it extra spicy on request. The chicken is juicy and flavorful. Full disclosure - we order lunch at the office often for meetings - delivered to our door. We like to eat family style, so we order a couple of dishes with the rice, and a few without. Superb options for the vegetarian and vegan diner, but my favorite dish is the lamb saag spicy - anything saag. This evening, I had the vegetable kebab with a garlic naan. The onion chutney on this dish is to die for, and I ordered extra and ordered it spicy. I've had numerous dishes here; vegetable curry, chicken curry and korma, saag paneer, but my most favorite dish is matar paneer. Cheese cubes in a coconut milk sauce with peas - creamy and rich, and vegan. The owners' other restaurant is Saffron Indian Bistro. Chandra, who manages this location, is always friendly and helpful. We have some allergies and dietary restrictions at the office, and this menu is easily accommodating to everyone. When you're in the UA neighborhood, dine here and you won't be disappointed. Food arrives quickly, and it's a no-brainer before the theater or if you're in a rush. Love this place. read more

It's been several months since my last visit here and I'm sad to say it will be my last. I've been coming to Kababeque for at least 7 years and have never had a bad experience or meal, until this last year. I came in shortly after they open and ordered my usual, Lamb curry. While waiting at a table an employee was mopping the floors and not once but twice ran his mop over my shoes. There was no apology and it almost felt deliberate. When my order was up I told the counter person to have a nice day as I always do and received no reply. I left feeling I was an inconvenience to their day... being the only customer at 1100. I took it to go and as soon as I got to my car and moved to a shady spot I opened my bag and began to eat. Immediately I noted that the curry was extremely oily and the curry was separated. Having only a little time to eat, I decided not to go back and began to eat reluctantly. The curry was probably the worst I've had. I could barely eat a quarter of the bowl. Even picking the lamb out and eating the rice became undesirable. I would gather that the curry was from the prior day or longer. The lamb was not of good quality as well. I love this place on campus. To put myself as a college student and view all the places around campus, they were usually expensive or unhealthy - aka a way to make college students more poor or hungry than ever before. This restaurant offers mostly everything under $10 (without tax). Plus I don't have to pay tips because I basically served myself. I ordered a chicken rice thingy. The second item down the right menu. It looked healthy enough with rice and chicken. The chicken was rather plain though (-1 star). I wish it could be more flavorful, maybe try to marinate it more? I paid around $8 for a medium portion that made me full and had to left over. read more

Seeing how this place is on University Blvd, I always assumed it would be like a lot of the other places on this strip: overpriced & mediocre quality. However, I finally gave it a shot about a year ago during a wifey street car pub crawl date night. Wow am I glad we did! My assumptions were way off. It is very reasonably priced and the food is fantastic. I have eaten Indian food for about 23 years now, and I can say the quality of Kababeque is among the top 20% of Indian places I've tried. (I even went out for Indian on my prom night). I've been back about 5 times since, and every visit I've been satisfied. It's about $31 after tax for our regular order: chicken tikka masala, baingan bharta, and 2 orders of garlic naan. We always have tons of left overs when it's just my wife and I eating this order which I love! We switch between ordering mild and medium spice levels depending on how spicy we're feelin'. Simple, consistently good Indian food. Not an elegant setting so we choose it as a casual treat or a takeout spot.

My husband has had work visits in the area and he's been here 3-4 times. He always eats here when he's in town. He didn't tell me we were eating Indian cause all I saw was pubs and breweries on this street . So I ordered the pasanda chicken mild. I can't handle spicy., garlic naan and garlic naan. It was incredible! I invited Chef Giri (sp?) over to our outside table. Very nice and personable . In fact, the cashier was nice too explaining everything as Ive never had Indian food before. I made yummy sounds the entire time. Had leftovers and had them for dinner tonite. I highly recommend this place. read more
