Went here with a friend Friday night. The bar is very very dirty. There were bugs everywhere and falling in drinks! I have been to many rooftops in the summer time and have never seen this!! This is inexcusable. The bartenders were extremely rude. Despite it not being crowded at all, it took over 20 minutes to get a drink. A truly horrible experience. There is really only one value in coming here; the view. However, unless you pay the $50 reservation fee for a spot outside, you don't get much else. For the price they charge, the cocktails are not the best. Our server told us they don't even have a muddler behind the bar. The mojito I ordered had a single mint leaf in it and tasted like water. Our server, who was extremely kind, seemed to be quite overworked. There are signs at the hostess stand indicating that they are currently experiencing a staff shortage and apparently that must be for bartenders as I noticed every server hopping behind the bar to make their own drinks for their customers. Unfortunately that really brought down the quality of the drinks. The other issue is that they add a service charge to the bill but never inform you of this unless you closely inspect your itemized receipt. If I had not had such a good server, I would be fuming that I inadvertently ended up tipping 40%. I appreciate establishments doing things like this to pay for servers more consistent and equitable but I would like to be informed as such so I don't end up tipping twice. read more

They hold the line forever, I guess to make it seem like it's poppin. When you get inside you wonder if they prefer people waiting in line to get in instead of selling drinks. Worst experience ever at a Resturant/bar. While the hostess was wonderful it went quickly downhill from there. We sat for 45 min without the waiter taking a drink or food order. We only received water. I had to go find him and then he still took another 15 min to come to our table. He barely understood or spoke English. We had to point to what we wanted on the menu. 35 min go by and we get nothing. I go to the hostess and let her know how horrible the service is and the manager comes over and apologized. She was very nice and promised us our drinks. When she came back another 30 min later the waiter finally brought our drinks but never came back to check on us and of course no food either. She look very surprised and apologized again. Next the bugs got so bad at our table as there is some kind of bug light we moved to the bar after we finished our food as the waiter was no where in sight. The manger saw us at the bar and checked on us and when we were ready to leave she offered a discount and we paid and went to the elevator. What happened next was infuriating. That waiter came running up to us not able to say whatever he was trying to say snd some other waiter or assistant came over an accused us of not paying !!!!!!!!!!! That undid everything the manage tired to fix. Horrible treatment and we will never go back there. read more

Very extensive and arbitrary dress code, you wait forever to get a drink, the whole outside rooftop area is reserved for people who pay extra to reserve it, there are security guards everywhere and they've all got sticks up their asses, and the atmosphere sucks. One redeeming quality is their cool elevator and there was 1 security guard who was pretty chill. read more

Came into town with my friend and collegiate and we decide to drop by off a recommendation at Kroger. Well y'all did NOT disappoint from security and vip lanes to outstanding service of one of the amazing bartenders Isaac. We believe a bartender name Lamar rivaled him as well according to my collegiate. As for the service in general I believe he said he was a food and drink runner, the guy Chris was unbelievable. i went here yesterday for my 50th birthday, let me just say what a disappointment The manager Kelsey BISER wasn't helpful with what i paid for, when we arrived, we waited about one hour before service started. i was told when i reserved my space that i would have my own bartender and server for food for the night while we are there didn't have ours. own bartender also we were double charge for food when bringing to manager attention she became angry only thing she cared about is the cooks staying in the kitchen cooking longer. Small area with terrible views as the other tall buildings bock the skyline. Almost all of the seating is blocked off for reservations so if you don't make one, the chances are that it's standing room only. There are other rooftop bars in the city with better views and seating. read more

I've been to this bar 3 times since moving here, pretty much back to back. I love the free entry, and the views are AMAZING! There is a dress code that I am very confused by, because I've seen both men and women out of it. I love thee fact that the bar iss on the rooftop. The bartenders are very nice and quick. I've never had to wait an extremely lengthy amount of time. The DJ tries his best to play well balanced music, but he could use some better suggestions. The past weekendd I went. He played the exact same songs as last time. As if he had a playlist set. I highly recommend this bar. Very nice. If you're trying to rent a section they all have awesome views, and aren't that expensive. Definitely give it a try. read more

Went for the first and last time on NYE. The event was dramatically oversold and understaffed. Despite selling tickets at $75 a couple, there was a line around the corner to get in an hour after the event started. They simply couldn't fit any more people than they already had let in. We made it in, and it then took an extreme effort to get a drink, so it was 11:50 before we had a drink in hand. The champagne toast? Oh yeah, that was the only thing you got for your $75, we got ours about 12:15. And it was warm, watched her unpack it right out of the case. This was a joke. I am sure many folks never made it in by Midnight. So odd that they would sell out the place and not even open the outside bar to help move things a long. They made serious bank. Our first time visiting this establishment was terrible. After seeing posts on Instagram, we were so excited that Richmond had a cool trendy rooftop to eat and drink, which we have been used to as we've lived in DC for the past several years. However, our experience left much to be desired. First, when we arrived, one of our friends didn't have his mask on, and they told us we could not enter without masks. No problem. As a group, we went back downstairs and got his mask. We returned, all now with masks on, and it had started to rain. While scanning the room, we noticed that most of the other customers did not even have on masks inside. This made us feel a bit uneasy, but nonetheless we stayed. We were told by the staff that they were trying to figure out if they could continue serving because it was now raining. We waited. It then stopped raining. Then, the staff said they were gonna try to get the outside area wiped down and dried off. We waited. Then, we were told they would no longer be serving food or drinks. We asked why, and there wasn't a clear answer other than "service is on hold right now", and the staff member passively walked away. Shockingly, other customers were still being served food and drinks. When we asked about that, we were told that they (apparently) ordered prior to the rain starting. Coincidentally, only our group (a few Black men) and a separate group of Black ladies were given this communication..so we all left. We discussed our experience in the elevator on the way down. It's clear that this establishment is not interested in serving a diverse clientele. Thankfully, there are numerous OTHER businesses in RVA that have shown themselves to be more inclusive and offer exceptional service..much unlike Kabana Rooftop. I have shared this experience across all social media outlets so that no one else will be subject to this type of experience. read more

Halloween 10/31/2018. I purchased a ticket for the Halloween event for $12.24 on Eventbrite. When me and the girls came to the event we had to wait 45 minutes in line, before we walked in the security made an announcement "The person who is checking tickets is late, so we are waiting for them to get here." While 3 staff members was standing at the ticket desk talking to each other as the line grew longer. Minutes after the announcements was made one of the girls who was standing at the front talking the whole time started to check tickets. They also told us that you must be dressed in a Halloween Costume to get in and if you do not have a ticket it's $20.00 at the door to enter. My girlfriend and I walked in the Halloween event with other people who had on costumes face paint, mask etc. Why would you have an event tell people they have to dress up to get in but you can't wear your costumes. We were having a good time until the owner walked up to me and told me to take off my mask. I ask him why he said that it's the rules and policy of Kabana Rooftop and that we could not have on the mask. While I was looking around at everyone around me who had on mask. I turned around and asked the security guard are we not allowed to have on mask at a Halloween Party, he said that he ever heard of a policy like that. So, I turn around and put my mask back on, the owner who told me that I had to take off my mask was standing in the corner watching making me feel very uncomfortable. Once I put the mask back on the owner charged at me got in my face like he was going to hit me... yelling at me telling me to take off my mask. At that point I was scared for my life, so I put my mask back on and left. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN I FEEL LIKE MY LIFE WAS THREATENED BY THE OWNER!!!!! read more

First off, this review has nothing to do with our server. The drinks are $11-$13 each, yet were so weak they were not worth that price at all. When mentioning that our drinks were weak, our server checked to see if the bartenders could fix them, and was told they she could bring us more if we pay for the additional alcohol. My husband ordered a couple shots for a friend's birthda for the guys to enjoy, and the shots were clearly watered down. Several of their menu items were unavailable, and our food for our group of 11 people came out as 2-3 plates at a time, with no silverware, so that our group was led to eat all separately so our food wasn't cold. We felt very bad for our server- she did everything she could but when you don't have many drinks or menu food items available it is impossible to upsell , and very hard to please customers when you are stuck with their 3rd beer/drink choice. The view is good, but not for the quality of drinks and the restaurant's lack of customer service and flexibility when out of half of the menu. read more
