I had the pleasure of dining here on a thursday night. Growing up around persian food it was nice to have fresh food. The white rice with adas( dried berries) is definitley great for any protien. If you got to all the Persian restaurants in the D.C. area, you'll notice this one has the most options and variations of dishes including some really good appetizer dishes. This well-worn restaurant is alright, but nothing jumped out at me as particularly enticing. I didn't find the food particularly flavorful, and some of what I tried had texture issues to me -- the stuffed grape leaves in particular were far more mushy than any I've had before. The menu is a decent size; the wine list is as well, although I hope I chose the only thin, flavorless wine on the list. The waiter at the counter saw us and did his best to keep a stern face and not make any eye contact with us. We stood there for an entire minute and then decided we should not take even a bite of food at this place if we have any self respect! The least he could have done was to greet us and excuse for a min so that we could wait for him to come back and get us seated! Moby Dick's ain't got nothin on this. This is a place that is "the usual" hangout for my friend Paula and me. She's a creature of habit and whenever we go, she knows every staff personally by name. There's a reason --- the food is GREAT at very inexpensive prices. Everytime I go, I plan not to eat for the day because the following: - they serve you pita, herbs and butter and spiced yogurt to make yourself little sandwich/canapes/appetizers while you wait for food -- it's their version of bread basket. - you order a side appetizer: e.g. salad like the fresh and light shirazi salad of ripe cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, olive oil and spices OR the tabbouleh which is crisp on the outside and warm and soft on the inside OR the baba ganhoush if you're an eggplant freak like me OR the hummus, which they make the way I like with lotsa garlic and lemon - you order you main dish (mine is usually the kabob kubbideh with bread or the lamb with rice) - you have the heavenly and aromatic rose water dessert pudding with pistachios - you saunter off to catch your movie at Ballston or walk around the area if the weather is pleasant read more

We visited this restaurant after a long time to see if it can be a go to kabob place for us... I will give the pros and cons: Pros: location! This place is located on a nice alrigton street and it has an outdoor seating so it's nice when the weather is good. Also, price wise it's really good with compare to other Iranian restaurants...their bread is very good and they give u free sabzi which is around $5 at other restaurants... Cons: Their service!!!! Even though the waiters and waitresses are nice but they don't do their job right! They are not experienced.. We had asked go have our kabobs in one dish so we can all share and it came individually.. Not just that, we had to remind them to bring our drinks, they forgot one side dish we had ordered, and they were supposed to mix the eggs ( raw egg yolks, it's an Iranian thing) in the kitchen when the rice was hot but they forgot.. Anyways basically they didn't do anything right!!! My husband and my brother said the kabobs were ok but I didn't like them at all.. One more thing is that yes the price is very fair but the portions are average .. Not like Amoo's or shamshiri or Alboz, which are very large We will try this place one more time to get dizi but for kabob never! I will revise my review then! read more

Scrumptious kabobs! We tried koubideh, chicken and barg. The barg was more well-done than we requested, but the meat was still extremely tender and flavorful. The chicken was moist and well-seasoned, and was perfectly cooked. The koubideh was spiced nicely, and delicious. The accompanying rice was fluffy, warm and tasty. They also bring you a basket of bread, parsley, scallions and radishes with a dressing to munch while you wait. For appetizers, we also loved the kashke 'O bademjan. The dolma were spot on. We weren't crazy about their tabbouli, it was a bit dry and I like mine lemony. You can order a combination plate which comes with several appetizers on one plate. They have a decent beer and wine selection. Dessert - we had baklava a la mode, and "la mode" is their homemade pistachio ice cream. Mmmmmm! What a pleasant surprise. And, the baklava was fresh and flaky. Service (a lovely woman we heard speaking Spanish to the busboy) was excellent - attentive, helpful and courteous, but not smothering. I tried to eat "lite" by ordering a veggie kabob but still felt full and felt like "wow, I just spent $10 for a couple of mushrooms and peppers with some rice". I started out with the lentil-based soup. It was rather...interesting. At first the flavor was off-putting, but got used to it and it was pretty okay. My friend and I ordered one of the specials for an entree. It seemed that the waiter got the order wrong and we ended up with the same dish. The dish comprised of a quarter chicken that was stewing in tomato-based sauce served with rice with raisins. The meat of the chicken was nice and soft, practically fell off. so the texture was very pleasant. The flavor, however, was just alright. Also, the price seems standard for this area. I have been wanting to try Kabob Bazaar for awhile and finally had the opportunity to try it with a friend about a week ago. My friend had the vegetarian platter (taboli salad, hummus and falafel patties) and really liked what she had. I had the Jujeh Kabob (marinated boneless, skinless chicken breast with rice and salad). The chicken was moist and flavorful and the rice was some of the best I've ever tasted. The entire meal came with pita bread, which was warm and a bit crunchy -- quite delicious. Casual food, I remember it being Afghan but I could be wrong. Sides are wholesome, there you will have at least a couple delicious and healthy options. Chickpeas, cooked greens etc. it's rather inexpensive for the quality of the food they give. I had walked past this places dozens of times before finally going in about a year ago... SOOOOO glad I did!! It is now a regular spot for me and my husband. No kidding, we eat there about once a week. I get the Chicken Shish Kabobs and they're delicious (ask for a bigger plate so it doesn't spill!). My husband always gets the Barreh Kabob (lamb) and even though he's a bit of food snob, he loves it!! I can't stop coming here. I love this place! I like eating out, but I want HEALTHY options and Kabob Bazaar does that; after all, most of their dishes are just meat + rice. Nothing fried, breaded, oily, greasy, which is great! When you order, your table gets a bread basket (naan) and MMM! It's so good - I have to stop myself from eating ALL OF THE NAAN because I dont' want to fill up before my entree comes. I always get the Chicken Barg kabob, which is just marinated chicken and rice. It is AMAZING. The chicken is so juicy and flavorful, it just melts in your mouth. This is authentic Persian cuisine - the only "American-ized" thing they do is that they give you silverware to eat it and you don't have to eat on the floor. Only nitpicks -- the interior is kind of dated and, well, ugly. I think they could step it up a little bit, especially for being at such a great location in Clarendon and so close to the metro. Overall, everything was fine except for a small Greek salad that with its cold and watery iceberg lettuce, canned black olives and few chunks of feta cheese, was a joke at $7.50. We enjoyed the Ash soup and our kebabs- my Kubideh was quite good and my wife's Barg (filet mignon) was delicious and a decent portion. Cardamon tea was offered when we sat down and was warming on a cold, rainy night but it should be made clear that there is a $2 charge per person. The space itself is spotlessly clean and just casual enough. Our waitress appeared to be one of the owners and she was friendly and efficient. We would have no problem returning but would try some of their competitors in the area first. read more
