Dear Joon Management, My family and I have been regular customers at your restaurant since March because we truly enjoy your excellent Persian food. I have also brought many coworkers and friends to introduce them to your restaurant. Unfortunately, during every visit over the past several months, the rice has been excessively salty. It tastes as though salt was added to the rice rather than the rice being properly seasoned. In May, I brought eight guests, and nearly everyone left their rice untouched. In early July, I returned with four people, and once again no one ate the rice. We mentioned the issue to our waiter, who was very polite and said he would inform the manager and the cook. On the third Wednesday of July, I came with two friends, and once again none of us ate the rice. I spoke with the manager, who was very kind and assured me she would discuss the issue with the cook. Unfortunately, despite reporting the problem more than once, nothing has changed. If this had happened only once, I would not be writing this email. However, after several disappointing visits, I expected that our meals would have been replaced or that we would not have been charged for food that was left uneaten because of the overly salted rice. I respectfully request that you consider providing a refund or another appropriate resolution for our most recent visit. Beautiful atmosphere. We arrived for lunch and the place quickly filled up. Dined on the lunch special of Waygu Beef Kebab and falafel. the meal was accompanied by the most buttery crispy rice Ive ever had. You have the choice of yogurt sauce or cucumber salad. We had both. Have heard a lot of hype about Joon and as a huge fan of the flavors of the region I finally got to check it out with a group of colleagues for dinner. And let's be honest, I was there to judge their famous Tahdig. The inside is beautiful, clad in dark green colors and velvet chairs, it's definitely going for a romantic dinner energy. The floor buzzes with staff and families giving the whole dining room a lively energy. The group had a few picky eaters that got their own dishes, but for the cool kids we shared the Gilani Kebab platter which came with prawns, chicken, lamb; ya, a little bit of everything and was perfect for sharing. The grilled/charred flavor showed through on top of rice and fresh herbs. We also got the whole roasted branzino, cause, who's not up for the challenge. Served in a pistachio citrus sauce over rice, it was very lightly flavored and succulent. The Tahdig did not disappoint, perfectly crisped rice, beautiful color and good flavor! A few dings because the cocktails (and all the drinks) come out very slowly (bar is probably under-staffed) and everything need juuuuuust a little more omff flavor wise. I'm a huge fan of Persian cuisine and the DMV is no slouch here so color me spoiled. Retail parking on the other side of Tiffany's. No patio today but they seated us next to the window and it was nice and bright. Not too many diners on a Sunday during lunch time, surprisingly. Quick and attentive service, and the food came out in good time. The coffee was really good - loved the cinnamon and cardamom and I substituted oat milk. Would try to get it a little less sweet next time but overall good. French toast was different but really good. I didn't like the whipped (cheese? Cream?) that much--too lemony for me. But the toast was yummy. Texture is different but good. Very moist. Liked the nuts. The lamb and potatoes were really good. Great flavor. Big portions. Lamb was super tender and juicy. My friend moved away a few weeks ago, but she missed the DMV so much she came back to visit last week. So that means we had to grab dinner. We made a reservation for Joon in advance. The ambiance felt luxurious and elevated, and there was even complimentary valet parking right outside the restaurant. To start, our server brought a piece of pita with a small plate filled with feta cheese, chimichurri (?), and an herb-seasoned butter. I loved the soft texture of the pita, and my favorite was the feta cheese. HUMMUS - 11 +14 for braised lamb shoulder Another friend recommended the lamb hummus to me, and it was delicious but very heavy. The pickled onions really helped cut the fattiness of the dip, and the lamb was very tender. PISTACHIO SOUP - 16 The soup was super thick, so it was very filling. Overall, pretty savory and delicious, just incredibly dense. My friend and I agreed that we should have just gotten one bowl of soup to share instead of each getting one because we were pretty full at this point. LAMB CHOPS - 58 Sadly, this one was a bit of a miss. I don't think four lamb chops were worth the price of $58. The lamb chops, while flavorful, were really chewy and tough to eat. However, the rice (chelow rice with tahdig) that came with it was phenomenal. When our server placed the bowl down, we could smell the warm, buttery smell instantly. I could literally just eat the rice on its own because it was seasoned on its own. SAFFRON & ROSE WATER ICE CREAM - 16 This came with two scoops of ice cream and a cookie in the middle. The cold dessert was a refreshing way to end a heavy dinner on a hot summer day. While it wasn't incredibly sweet, we thought it was sweeter than most ice creams. The saffron and pistachio flavors were very prominent. Delicious, and we were very pleased with our dessert selection. I'd like to revisit Joon eventually because I think I would have much preferred their chicken harissa and their kabob selections over their lamb chops. Joon's French Toast - The decadent French toast made with focaccia bread had a bold delicious lemon flavor, topped with raspberry compote and pecans. It was very rich and indulgent. The 4 large slices of toast was generous and the entree doubled over for dessert! Perfect for sharing. The Mango Mimosa was okay, for $12 - I wish the restaurant used fresh mango puree instead of housemade syrup. My friends enjoyed their meaty lamb meals. Amazing food, service and atmosphere overall. Went for brunch and the space is very big with multiple rooms and some private dining areas. The service was fast and food came out at a good pace. It wasn't too crowded at noon on a Saturday. All the food was very flavorful with unique characteristics for each. It wasn't heavy which I was surprised about. The French toast is so fluffy and made a great dessert. The best dish we had was the lamb meatballs and pistachio. Dishes ordered by others at the table were good as well but I feel bad to say Moby Dicks casual Persian eateries might be a little bit better. In kind of a random area (tucked next to Tiffany's) Joon was quite busy for dinner on a Thursday early evening. I would recommend a reservation because it was quite busy but the bar always had space. Food was a 5/5 but service was a 3/5-4/5 - bartender and bar service was extremely slow. Probably waited 20+ minutes to order a drink, got water refilled once in a 3-hour timeframe, and had to reask for things like extra bread, to order, etc. We started with the Mayhbar items, including the falafel, hummus, and the kashke e-bademjan. They give this very thin bread but ask for extra because the HH portions are large. We did ask for mushroom hummus but somehow normal hummus came out instead. The hummus was so well whipped and the falafel was one of the most soft and tasty ones I've ever had. The grilled eggplant was good too but when we finally got the mushroom hummus, it was absolutely fantastic as well. Do not miss out on the hummus or falafel. For our main we shared the joon kabob platter. The chelow rice was fantastic and crispy, and the meat was so tender. I will say for $95, I wish they gave a bit more kubideh or chicken kabob. I know it's meant to be split amongst 3 but I feel like some cheaper chains easily for the same price would have given you two things of the "cheaper" meat. We got a side of Toum too and it was just absolutely a perfect addition to the meal. Drinks were decent but pricey if not on HH. Espresso martini was a bit creamy but their glass of rose was good (but really light pour for $22 a glass). A bit overpriced to come often but food quality is there. read more

It's been a while since I've said I wanted to try Joon so I decided to opt for their lunch prefix menu! It's an upscale environment and for lunch there were a lot of corporate-looking diners. It's a pleasant atmosphere and the staff carefully seats you tables apart so you're not all crowded and it's not too loud. Excellent. We weren't particularly hungry so we asked share a full menu item and then ordered a salad to share. The prefix comes with either a salad or a dip(?) and we opted for the dip. The kubideh kebab was tasty. It was juicy and fresh. The rice was good. The salad was questionable. We didn't really like it but we didn't hate it. I wondered if it was just the vinegar or maybe mustard that was hitting too strong. My friend thought maybe it was stale like they'd pickled it too long. Not sure what it was but we couldn't finish it. When we had eaten about 60% the server came by and offered us pita bread. It would've been nice to have it from the beginning... The decor was modern and really felt like you're in a different world. The lady who assisted us (forgot her name) gave great details about the menu and what to order as well as helped me pick between the lamb chops and lamb shoulder. I came here for their brunch, and the food was well worth it. We shared with a specialized brunch for around 35-38 dollars. I wasn't sure how much food it would be considering we were sharing but it was way more food than I expected. My favorites were all the dips. They also had a lamb with potatoes which was not my favorite. We did get plenty of bread though. The French toast was so good but by that point. I was very full. The service for this place was okay. It seemed like there was some preferred treatment for other tables, and we had to ask a few times for some extras. The ambiance is great! It's a huge place and they have free valet outside. I love love love when I have a great experience that's the perfect culmination of food, ambiance, and service that makes me want to not only come back but not want to leave. No really they turned the lights off on us lol. Thanks to Yelp (Big Ups) I found this awesome gem Joon and was able go to experience their brunch this past Sunday. It was perfect to hang with a good friend and enjoy being catered to while falling in love with so many of the dishes that we had to catch a second and third breath. Paul did a great job taking care of us and making sure our bill was correct. He inquired if there was anything we enjoyed as much as to have seconds for and brought those items out. I really wish I could have taken home the dango and kashk-e bademjan but I was being cutesie and only had a small purse with me LOL. Paul also gave us a lot of information about the restaurant and changes they've recently made. We got up to leave out and as I stood next to the bar awaiting my friend to use the bathroom, I noticed they had multiple items on my favorites list stocked. That's when Gerard approached asking if he could be a service. I soaked up more information about Joon and vowed to come back. This was an overall great visit and I really appreciate being able to talk with team members to get more insight on how restaurant's foundation and goals. We bid our goodbyes and walked around to the other side of the bar and was greeted by a bartender who also answered questions for us and gave us information about upcoming events. One of the underrated pleasures of an upscale restaurant is complimentary valet parking. It sets a welcoming, stress-free tone from the very beginning--and this place delivered exactly that. The food arrived impressively fast--which typically raises my skepticism--but I was pleasantly surprised, as any preconceived notions were quickly shattered. Attention to detail was evident throughout: from the presentation of the plates to the golden cutlery and the calming lounge décor. Everything worked together to create a soothing atmosphere that genuinely enhanced the dining experience and, arguably, elevated the food itself. That said, sitting by the window was less enjoyable due to cold air coming through--likely an insulation issue that probably won't be noticeable during warmer months. And if I'm being very picky, the bread did not seem freshly baked, which I would normally expect at a restaurant of this caliber. A fresh-baked option, perhaps paired with an additional dip, would have been a welcome touch--especially since places like Shamshiry and Al Borz set a strong benchmark in this regard. Went in for dinner after shopping at Tyson's corner. We got a table easily on a Saturday night. We were not very hungry so we just shared two appetizers and one main course. We started with the cucumber salad which was nice and light, had feta crumbles on top. Then we got the squash and cauliflower appetizers, it did not disappoint. It had a hint of spice to it, which was a nice add. For main, we got the lamb shoulder pavé. It was nice and moist with a touch of sweetness and served with vegetables. We also ordered the mast-o-musir for the table, with the bread it was very good. For my main I got the kubideh kabob, this was very good. It was well seasoned and cooked well. The rice was also very well done and a good portion. The only downside was the drinks, I got the Pom Fizz and it was a bit bitter, normally I don't mind but it was not great. Someone else got the cucumber mint sharbat and it was terrible, she actually sent it back and got a soda instead. IMHO close to Michelin star but not quite there yet. Relatively new Iranian restaurant to the Tyson's area in the former Cheff Geoffs location has a lot of promise. There a few things to work out. One of the things that needs no work is the food. It is exceptional in terms of quality, orientation, and preparation. The details really matter here. It's not your midnight kebab joint. It is fine dining at its best. The price points should give you that expectation. I love the brunch items here to include the lamb and hash. The French toast is amazing but sweet so I would Recommend sharing. The lamb dinner is also exquisite. Even the side veggies are not run of the mill. They use pickled mini onions and heirloom carrots. It makes a huge difference The staff are incredible and accommodating. I always feel welcome and appreciated. I love the little details. The paper clipped heart menus are adorable and the tea service is fantastic. What are items for improvement? The valet and parking. I had no idea the valet was there because there's not much signage. With construction on half of the entrance circle it's very confusing. I ended up walking both times I was there from the garage with no real safe passageway. The plates. Although beautiful they should check the quality. My plate "spun" around as I tried to eat on it becuase it was not flat. Just a little annoying. The staff maybe a little too helpful. It's just strange when there's still food and the staff come by to ask to clear it out. It's a little sad if people waste food that much. We were also the last seating of the night so I couldn't see why they needed to turn tables. The dessert. We ordered everything on the menu and pretty much everything except the chocolate pie and the apple pie had an off putting "cleaning" smell to it. It was especially evident in the rose ice cream. My recent visit over the weekend the Duck leg was pretty small with little meat. The manager was super understanding and brought another. Hoping this is not the new normal. Lamb Chops: 10/10. Overpriced low quality food and service! the food is realy bad! their Barg was so salty , it was very soft but anything soaked into that much of salt would be been soft and melt in your mouth! the safran ice cream tasted like they bought off the shelf vanila ice cream and mixed it with safran rather than making it from scracht! waitresses are horrible , and my god the prices for the shitty food you get is unbeilvable ! also their menu during the day is so limited and bad that it doesn worth visit at all. Update: The audacity of the manager's response is unbelievable. Instead of taking a legitimate criticism to heart, he chose to dismiss the experience entirely by hiding behind what "the overwhelming majority" of guests supposedly think. That says a lot more about the restaurant's attitude toward criticism than it does about my experience. And let's be honest: most of your guests aren't Iranian and may not have the cultural or culinary background to meaningfully compare what you're serving to genuinely good Persian food. A high number of satisfied customers doesn't automatically make the food authentic or good. Listening to criticism instead of being defensive would have been a much better look. read more

The atmosphere is very pleasant and upscale. I went here on a Friday afternoon and there were barely any other customers. You could definitely see how big the restaurant is. I got the $20 lunch special with a chicken kabob and mast-o musir. Chicken was cooked well, with slight smokiness and without being too dry. I also liked the seasoning they used and how it wasn't too overpowering. I tend to be a big eater but the portion size of the dish was very generous. Joon was amazing! This was my first time dining here. I had the pistachio meatballs and the mast-o musir to start. My entrée was the duck fesenjoon, which is a whole duck leg sticking in a bowl of really savory stew. Just to make sure you got your carbs in, all entrees came out with rice tahdig, a dish made of delicious basmati rice compacted and fried on the surface for the nice golden brown crispy experience. The food all tasted generally authentic with an American kick. They make a great espresso martini as well. Had a couple of those. No issues about the atmosphere; it was lively and generally upbeat. The valet parking is complementary/priced at your discretion and they take cards, so that was super convenient, I tossed the guy a $20.
