Winner Winner Persian dinner! High fives all around. So, we stepped into Kabobi and noticed that 90% of its clientele was of the same ethnicity...and said to selves... it must be good. If you're looking for authenticity, it's here. From the homestyle cooking, to the no-nonsense dining space. If you're looking for humongous portions at a good value, this is the place. Kebabs are served on a platter the size of a 14" pizza. If you're looking for incredibly tender and flavorful marinated meats, you've found it. BUT - If table service or fancy schmancy is something you require, then this isn't the place for you. With portions like these - come hungry or be happy to leave with a take out box. Trust me, you'll be savoring this the next day and feel like a lotto winner when you open your fridge. Walk up to the counter, order and pay. They give you a number and seat you at a table. Now you wait for your bountiful food to arrive. It won't take long. This is the real deal. And they even serve dill rice, yumm. I heard this place was BYOB but I'm not sure, so don't count on alcohol cause it's not on the menu. There's so many incredible dishes here, I wanted to try them all. Whatever you do, don't leave without trying one of their many kebabs served with your choice of rice (3 variations) or lavash, roasted tomato and raw onion. Two hefty skewers and more rice than you'll know what to do with. We tried the beef chengah (they have lamb also) and beef & lamb koubideh. Both were incredibly tender & moist. Chengeh was very flavorful whereas the koubideh could've used more seasoning. My dill & lima bean rice was on the dry side but I'm gonna guess this was because it had been sitting for awhile since it was late. I didn't care though, and doused that rice with the sumac sitting on our table. Their hummus is so creamy and perfectly clean & tasty. Lots of warm pita served fresh. Caspian eggplant is delicious and a must try - smashed roasted eggplant in a flavorful tomato based sauce. Couldn't get enough of it. But the real showstopper is their Persian soup; Ash Reshteh. It's a creamy soup made with yogurt whey, spinach, garbanzo & red beans, lentil, mint, onion, Persian noodles (similar to fettucine) and a variety of warm spices. You get a little tangy from the whey. Flavor reminds me of their lentil soup, but with yogurt. Noodles are starchy. I'd be happy without them, but this is customary in the soup. Very comforting and delicious..you must try this. Walking out, I wanted a few Bamieh (Persian donuts) to take home and the nice man handed me 4 on the house when I asked for two. Thank you nice man. I'd never had them until now - really good. They look like fat churros soaked in a light not overly sweet syrup. Lighter texture than a churro. There's a large case of various sweets; baklava, mamoul; cookie filled with nuts or figs and zulbia; fried dough drizzled with syrup. It was hard not to ask for one of each. This is a great local spot for Persian food! It's very easy to order online or over the phone and they are quick and efficient with takeout. You get a ton of food with whatever you order -- so be prepared for leftovers. I would recommend getting the combination platters so that you could sample different kinds of meats. I ordered the beef koubideh (made from ground beef) and the chicken thigh kabob. A tremendous amount of meat that comes with a heaping pile of rice (they are known for their dill rice, but I got regular basmati and still enjoyed), a grilled tomato and some onions. The meats by far were the highlights of dinner -- everything was juicy, flavorful, and tender. I definitely suggest getting a sauce to dip on the side -- I really enjoyed the yogurt and cucumber.
