    Chicken kabob
    Sriharsha A.

Tried this place for a Friday date night, no reservation and got seated right away even though it was packed. The chicken kabob had herby, smoky seasoning with no real heat, and the chicken was actually tender instead of the dry rubber you usually get. The rice leans sweeter than you'd expect and it works. Bread comes with the plate, puffy and soft, not pita, not naan, it is it's own category. Ask for the mint sauce on the side, it adds freshness and a little kick to the chicken and rice. Staff was friendly and offered good suggestion to the menu. Price was reasonable.

Seafood combo was delightful. I personally loved the bread and rice. Herb and yogurt dipping sauces are very authentic. Just nearby parking is harder to find during peak hours.

We were invited to a birthday dinner here on a Saturday evening and wow! There were 20 people in our party and the service was spectacular. Everyone got their food at the same time, everyone's needs were met, and they refilled drinks and water quickly. The food was amazing! We got the shrimp plate and my partner got the beef plate. Both plates had a huge amount of food! We all had to get Togo boxes. The hot sauce they provided was so tasty we wanted to bring that home! The bread was so fluffy and had a slight chewiness to it that I loved. Overall it was a great meal! The price was a little high in my opinion but the quality was great!

White tablecloths. The food here is consistently excellent. The service is top notch also. If you haven't tried this place, it's definitely worth a visit. My recommendations: any of the kebabs- my preference is lamb and steak. I've tried them all including the fish and it's good too! My favorite side is the Kadu. You won't go home hungry. Portions are generous. I think they even brought out food platter style when I came with a bigger group before.

I passed by this restaurant and my uber driver voluntarily recommended this place. I'm so glad he did! TBH, lamb wasn't my favorite, but this restaurant has completely changed my mind. Their lamb kebab is on another level, perfectly prepared and cooked, and absolutely incredible. In addition to their delicious food, you can expect great service and a very clean restaurant. I've been visiting this place and their other location in San Carlos again and again.

We had a nice lunch here today. Today we tried the chefs platter, which was so delicious. We also tried the lamb and chicken kebab plates. Both were really good. Our service was excellent as usual. I love coming here because the inside decor is so elegant. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

This is the second Afghan restaurant I have tried, and I have fallen in love. The meat is perfectly cooked, delicious and juicy. The portions are absolutely massive, easily can feed 2 people for 1 entree. The interior is beautiful in an intimate setting. The staff are all very professional and friendly.

Oh boy where was I all these years? Can't believe we tried this place for the first time today despite living in Sunnyvale and the South Bay for more than a decade. We dropped in for an impromptu lunch and boy were we impressed. We had the Bulanee Katchalu as an appetizer. It's a flaky turnover stuffed with a delicious soft potato and ground lamb filling. For my South Asian friends - it's basically a Lamb and 'Aaloo' Keema Parantha. For us, it was definitely the show-stopper! Then we had the Mater Challaw - a slow cooked Lamb stew made with peas and served with aromatic Basmati rice and a warm focaccia bread. I gotta do some research here because the South Asian connections with the Hindi language are uncanny. And while Mattar Chawal loosely translates to Rice with Peas in Hindi - the Afghans have taken it to another meat heaven by adding the soft and succulent lamb. It was fantastic! I am definitely coming back to try more items on the menu. The restaurant was classy yet understated, the service was prompt, and Saul, our server, was friendly and patient throughout. Let's show this local Sunnyvale establishment some love - highly recommend!

I came here recently and ordered the combo with beef and chicken. I would recommend to get the lamb instead. The beef was a little tough but the chicken and lamb were both really really good--super flavorful and tender. The rice was delicious and well seasoned. The bread was okay, just a little cold. I also got a mango lassi and that was super super good--perfectly sweet and refreshing. Everyone in our group loved the food. The flavors across the board were amazing and the meat was incredibly tender. Portion sizes were generous and we all left with leftovers. The service was solid and the restaurant itself was clean and well kept.

Kabul Afghan Cuisine in Sunnyvale delivers a delightful dining experience with authentic Afghan flavors. The standout of my meal was undoubtedly the lamb chops, which were tender, flavorful, decently seasoned and cooked to my exact liking--a true highlight! It came on a large skewer (biggest serving I've had of lamb chops for sure). The entire meal was so much food I love it!! The lamb was not the best I ever had and the green spicy sauce really helped with the flavors, but still was very tasty. I put that green sauce on everything, very spicy However, the rice and bread fell a bit short for *me*. While the rice was cooked well, it lacked the depth of flavor I hoped for, and the bread was not as flavorful as I expected. The appetizers were delicious. The fried potatoes draped in creamy sauce was indulgent and satisfying, and the mango lassi was a refreshing complement to the meal. Overall, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere inviting. It's a solid 4/5 for me--worth visiting, especially for the lamb and appetizers!

Mango Lassi - forgot to take a picture but the glass was full!

I came with my team for lunch and had a great time! There were other large parties around us and the decor was nice inside. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. We also had some samosas which were delicious, and the chutney they serve has quite some heat to it! Mango Lassi - thick and delicious! It was one of the better mango lassi's I've had and I thoroughly enjoyed the strong mango taste along with the tangy yogurt. It wasn't too sweet. Combination Kabob (lamb and chicken) - the kabobs were juicy and tender. The lamb was pink inside and not gamey at all. Chicken was moist and the char was perfect. For dessert, we had baklava and the rosewater ice cream. Baklava was delicious and flaky, the ice cream had a nice floral (rose) taste to it and wasn't too overpowering. There's limited street parking but plenty of parking garages around Sunnyvale downtown.

It has been many many years since we have last been to one of the Kabul restaurants and it was fun to try it again. The restaurant was not crowded, although it's large enough to handle many people and parties. We started with the mantu appetizer, but that was disappointing because the dumplings were so buried in sauce. The lamb and salmon mixed kebabs were fabulous, primarily due to the fact that the salmon was so good. Excellent flavor. The lamb was good, but not as tender as I expected it to be. We also had the lamb kabobs (more tender than on my combination plate) and the chicken kabobs which were good. The seasoned rice is very tasty, but we ordered the charbroiled veggies and found them to be incredibly oily. The baklava was good, but the firnee, which is a milk pudding, was disappointing only because we anticipated more of a rice pudding and that's not what this is. Our bad.

Back at this family favorite, we've been coming here and its sister location (in San Carlos) for decades. I am partial to the Kababs and spinach "Sabsi" but there are so many other options. Their Rose Water deserts are both unique and delightful. We were served right away (being a Wednesday evening) and the decorations are fun and interesting. I met my son - both of us arrived by CalTrain - it makes for a great break in the normal routine.

    Yes!

Me and my family loves Kabul! Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we haven't gone in a while. I recently ordered 2 kabob plates and sadly I didn't see any salad with the order. Do you no longer serve that amazing salad dressing with salad anymore?

No. You have to pay extra for the salad.

    Do you have vegan stews?

I understand vegetarian is not the same as vegan, but here is a link to their menu and specifically their vegetarian dishes.…

Do you get 2 kabob skewers for dinner and one for lunch? Is that the reason for the price difference? Thanks.

    Yup.

Do you serve HALAL Meat or not? If yes, Full or Partial Halal? can you please confirm!!!

    yes full halal

Not going to lie, I was kinda iffy because of the mixed reviews. But, if you skim through, most of the negative ones are for the buffet which is no longer offered. Welp, you're never going to know unless you try it yourself and I'm glad I did! Medina Kebab House is open for takeout, delivery (3rd party apps), indoor dining, and dog-friendly outdoor dining.
