We tried the Meza plate: Baba Ghanoush (smoky eggplant dip), Dolmas ( tangy grape leaves), Za'atar bread( spices, onions)- Jasmin said this was everyone's favorite, after the taste of this bread you guys, it became our favorite! It tastes super nice and it was flavorful! There was feta cheese, kalamata olives, and bread cut in a triangular shape. Jasmin told us to open the bread and grab the dips, and cheese with it. Every bite was a whole different experience! It was delicious! Jasmin said we had to eat the Za'atar bread, with the cheese on it and it was just yum! Jasmin let us try Saudi coffee, with sweet dates, and I also ordered the Honey Rose Latte. The Saudi coffee had cardamom in it so it's different from regular coffees. My Honey Rose Latte was good too. Jasmin asked if I wanted my latte sweeter and added more of the sweetener in my coffee. Even Ryan liked it too! The rose water gave it a nice touch. We also had the Turkey Panini~Jasmin's turkey panini was super crispy! There was cheese melting in the inside! You can hear the crunch in every bite! There were vegetables in it too like bell peppers, pesto, zucchini, and turkey meat. Ryan and I were really loving it! And for the final course, we had to try the desserts! We ordered two kinds of cakes, the sour cream poppy seed cake, and pumpkin spice loaf. These cakes were super moist, and not as sweet, which was perfect with our coffee. And there was a nice sugary crumble texture with it! So friends, if you are feeling adventurous and want to try something new, come on down to Jasmin's cafe at Mirage Arts & Coffee. She also does open mic nights, there would be live entertainment, belly dancers, so if you want to have a small get together, Jasmin welcomes everyone. Jasmin is a wonderful host. I requested a small Dark Chocolate Mocha to go. I am not a huge fan of mochas, if only, as the chocolate tends to overwhelm the taste of the espresso. It was alright. Hours are 730a to 200p, Tuesdays thru Thursdays. Fridays close at 300p. Weekends are 900a till 300p. He was also surprisingly rude and wore sunglasses in an already low-light environment, which only added to the odd first impression. When he called my name, he placed a drink on the pickup counter at the same time, so I naturally assumed it was mine. He immediately called me back over and said, "That drink wasn't yours. It was for another customer." I apologized, to which he told me to bring it back so he could dispose of it. It felt incredibly wasteful, especially considering the business promotes sustainability through secondhand furniture. To make things worse, the coffee was flat, the hojicha was underwhelming and watery, and the lox bagel came with nearly a half-inch slab of cream cheese on both halves of the bagel and only a strip or two of salmon. He may as well have handed me the tub of cream cheese. To put a sweet cherry on top, while it's not unusual for a café to be filled with conversation, whoever was in charge of the music had it turned up so loud that no one could comfortably hear each other. Even the group next to us, who had been chatting away, seemed to be competing with the speakers. At that point, we decided to leave because the atmosphere just felt unwelcoming. Seeing as there are plenty of five-star reviews, I imagine the experience depends heavily on who's working that day. Surf Camp shares its name with its sister the popular Surf Camp attire and retail store which is the older sister as well to Up and Riding for kids- a surf themed clothing, accessories and shoes store in Kahala Mall. All of these spots exhibit a taste level, an eye for trends, and quality products. There's also a subtle but felt honoring of what makes local, local, underneath everything. I think that's what adds to the success. They know how to create a look, a vybe. Now when it comes to coffee I'd just like to do the shrugged emoji girl. Some of it I just can"t get into. I think I'm too old to get on the matcha bandwagon. I really just want drip coffee or espresso shots. I don't need fancy. I don't like milk. But my friends do, and I love my friends.
