Cafe VNTG is one of the most unique cafés I've come across in Honolulu. The combination of quality coffee, vintage furniture, and a creative atmosphere makes it feel less like a coffee shop and more like a community space for artists, readers, and creatives. One of my favorite concepts is that the furniture you sit on while enjoying your coffee is also available for purchase. It gives the entire place a warm, curated feeling that stands out from most cafés. There's plenty of seating for larger groups, book clubs, studying, or simply relaxing for a few hours. They also host open mic nights, fashion shows, and other community-centered events that keep the space connected to Honolulu's local arts scene. The staff was incredibly kind, and the overall atmosphere felt welcoming, calm, and creative. You can tell a lot of care was put into building this place. This place is so lovely. I noticed their small collection of books within the vintage library area where people can sit, read, and quietly enjoy the atmosphere. It felt only fitting to add my own work to their collection. The concept of the cafe is unique: a vintage furniture store with "artisan" drinks. The execution, however, was very much lacking. Stepping into the cafe was admittedly cool. But I quickly realized it was actually very dark and dingy, save for the warm lamp light upstairs and the harsh white lights coming from what seemed to be the kitchen. I was very excited to try the food and coffee until my friend and I were greeted by a barista who seemed oddly and unreasonably impatient given the number of customers (or lack thereof). He was also surprisingly rude and wore sunglasses in an already low-light environment, which only added to the odd first impression. When he called my name, he placed a drink on the pickup counter at the same time, so I naturally assumed it was mine. He immediately called me back over and said, "That drink wasn't yours. It was for another customer." I apologized, to which he told me to bring it back so he could dispose of it. It felt incredibly wasteful, especially considering the business promotes sustainability through secondhand furniture. To make things worse, the coffee was flat, the hojicha was underwhelming and watery, and the lox bagel came with nearly a half-inch slab of cream cheese on both halves of the bagel and only a strip or two of salmon. He may as well have handed me the tub of cream cheese. To put a sweet cherry on top, while it's not unusual for a café to be filled with conversation, whoever was in charge of the music had it turned up so loud that no one could comfortably hear each other. Even the group next to us, who had been chatting away, seemed to be competing with the speakers. At that point, we decided to leave because the atmosphere just felt unwelcoming. Seeing as there are plenty of five-star reviews, I imagine the experience depends heavily on who's working that day. All in all, it came across as a very pretentious and overhyped place without the hospitality, warmth, or quality of food and drinks to back it up. Whole place is cool looking. The barista was nice and said she'll be right with us right when we walked in. Drink took about maybe 10 mins to make and there was one person ahead of us. Was super excited to try the matcha since the photo reviews had super dark green matcha color. However, when I received the vintage matcha lavender drink, it was really sad :( It tasted like milk. Once you take first sip, lavender and rest of drink taste like milk. Inside was really cool and playing chess while we waited was fun. But the drink was very disappointing! read more

Cafe VNTG is an unassuming coffee shop tucked away in on Waimanu St. behind the BMW dealership on Kapiolani Blvd. I wouldn't have known about this place unless my friend pointed out the small sign and flag outside of the warehouse, so since then, I always wanted to visit. The ambiance is quiet, filled with antiques and vintage furniture. The shop keeper was kind enough to make recommendations for our coffee choices based on our usual preferences. Cafe Cremosa - Caramelo Especiale was an absolute 6/5; imagine a much more airy Dalgona coffee foam, espresso meets sweet caramel and sea salt flakes. Finding a coffee shop thats quiet with a relaxed atmosphere - a rare find nowadays so I low-key wanted to gatekeep BUT had to share with the Yelp community because the coffee was just that awesome. This cafe in a vintage furniture shop is quickly becoming my favorite third space. At Cafe VNTG, you can order matcha, coffee, and food and enjoy it on any of their vintage couches, chairs, and tables. There are so many unique pieces including a couch owned by Duke Kahanamoku, the world's largest couch, and so many cool mid-century modern pieces. I tried their paradise matcha and loved their brazilian bites and smoked salmon bagel. There's free wifi making it an awesome spot to bring your laptop and get some work done. Cool coffee spot hidden in Ward area. First furniture/cafe I've come across on island! Furnitures seemed well-priced and the coffee is locally sourced by Tradition Coffee Roasters. Syrups are also locally sourced by Pono. (Support local!) The interior is unlike any other. Tons of places to sit. Saw a couple of people working on their laptops. Others were enjoying light conversations or even shopping for furniture! The reason for the one-star dock has to do with the service. The barista wasn't very friendly. My iced latte was just alright. The latte and service have dissuaded me from visiting anytime soon. Might go back to buy furniture though! Restrooms available. I think WiFi is available too. Tried the Paradise Matcha at VNTG and thought it was good, but nothing particularly memorable. The matcha flavor was pretty light, and I couldn't really taste much of the honey or lilikoi. The café is tucked away inside a vintage furniture store, which gives it a cool and unique vibe. The worker was friendly and had my drink ready within a few minutes. Such a cool and unexpected find. This place is a vintage furniture store but also has a little café inside, which makes the whole experience really unique. I ordered the iced matcha and a pão de queijo sampler, and both were delicious. The matcha was smooth, refreshing, and not overly sweet--perfect for walking around and browsing. The pão de queijo sampler was warm, cheesy, and super satisfying with that perfect chewy texture. What really makes the spot special is the atmosphere. Funky lil cafe in the auto area of Kakaako. There's a sign outside and two big open doors to guide you in off Waimanu. We walked here but there's limited street parking and a garage apparently off another side street. No AC but overall the air flow was good with open doors and lots of huge fans, we didn't feel hot although it was an overcast day, not sure how it would be in the summer or on a hot day. Menu was interesting featuring coffee, matcha, Brazilian drinks, and baked goods. I tried a Brazilian cold brew which was $8 for 16 oz, a little on the pricier side but it was unique and delicious. The coffee was pretty light and flavored with a little condensed milk and mint, which was so refreshing. A nice offering for the afternoon when I don't want to drink too much caffeine. Service was friendly, only a few customers in front of us and drinks came out within 15 min. They sell little things at the front like ceramics syrups matcha etc. The seating is inside and all over the furniture store. We were careful not to put drinks on wood surfaces. Some areas are better for working on a laptop, others for sitting and lounging with friends. There are a few clean bathrooms available in the back. They played really great music! This place is a gem, with a little slice of relaxing heaven rolled into one. Parking is a night mare. It's so rare to even get a spot in the back alley. So don't bank on it. Everything is good. Pricey but good. Love all the furniture and beautiful antiques. Their bagels are amazing. This place can fit people, but there are usually only a couple people working, so if you are coming in a large group , it will be hard to eat. There is only a few things on the menu. Which we personally like. The baristas are all so personable and wonderful. I hate to review this place, due to people coming in troves and could totally throw off the vibe. So know when you come in, it's slow paced, their snacks and coffee are all perfected, so it takes a minute. Find a spot and don't be crazy loud. It was located out-of-the-way where all the auto body shops were but thank God for the sign they put up so I knew I was in the right place! I was impressed that they were able to convert a furniture shop into a cafe. I was also really impressed with the furniture throughout the cafe - a lot of it looked vintage and would be a great addition to someone's home or for decor furnishings. What makes it fun is that all the seating area spread throughout the place is fair game to enjoy your baked goods or drinks. I tried their Vintage Matcha. It was a standard matcha latte with lavender foam. I think I was very bummed out when I didn't realize that the same day I went there in the morning they had a night matcha tasting with live music... like what?? I was dog sitting nearby and saw the signs and wanted to stop by. I came by on two separate occasions to try different items, matcha and limonata. I really love Brazilian limeade/lemonade and was excited to see a unique item on the menu that incorporated matcha into the limonata. The menu definitely has a lot of other Brazilian inspired items including pao de queijo and açaí. When I walked in I was greeted by who I think was the owner, very kind, asked what I was trying today. The barista was also very friendly and gave me some recommendations for the first time. During the first visit on a weekday afternoon I wanted to try their lavender matcha. The matcha was good, the lavender was very subtle but a nice compliment to the matcha. My order was ready in less than 5 minutes. The matcha was made on spot and not a mix. The second time I visited was on a Saturday afternoon. When I arrived the barista remembered me, which was nice. He also let me know they were very busy (I think big online order) and the wait would be longer than usual. I appreciate the heads up. I ordered the regular limonata and the matcha limonata. Both were very good and I really liked the unique mix of the matcha with limeade but the wait was about 20-25 minutes. Fortunately the setting is really good and there's some vintage furniture to sit and wait or look around. However I think they could've used an extra hand that day. This little hidden gem popped up on my feed and I couldn't resist stopping by! I love trying new things like food, drinks and unique spots... and this one felt like such a fun, random find. I came with my friend, we ordered a few items from the menu. I ordered the Coconut Cloud Matcha Latte I believe, said to be made with coconut milk (on the cloud/cold foam part) but it was accidentally made with whole milk instead. I was a bit disappointed since I don't drink cow's milk and can tell the difference right away. Hopefully, this helps the team avoid mix-ups in the future, as the idea of the drink is still creative and unique. My friend ordered an iced cafe latte with whole milk. Her drink took a bit longer about 20 minutes because of a little mix-up (the barista thought it was supposed to be hot). It wasn't a big deal for us but to save time for future visits, I'd recommend repeating your order clearly just to make sure everything's right. Once her latte arrived, it was ok, classic coffee. The service was warm and friendly and I could see how much heart the team was putting into their work. There were two people helping each other behind the counter. The first steps in running a cafe are never easy but I believe with time, experience and maybe a little extra help, everything will run even smoother. Parking is a little tricky there are "No Parking" signs around the building, so be sure to read carefully and park in the allowed areas to avoid any trouble. We love supporting both big and small businesses, especially in times like these. She spotted Cafe VNTG, looked it up on Instagram, and called to make sure that they were open... I was just worried about parking. On my first visit, I was a creative parker, but took a risk. I moved my car from the questionable space, and returned to Cafe VNTG to semi-block the entrance of the café. It was a weekday when employees from neighboring businesses are parking in the area. Later, I came back on a weekend when there was more street parking. Irene parked in one of the free designated stalls in the Kaka'ako Commerce Center. Go up the spiral driveway on Kawaiaha'o Street and park in stalls #60 A and B and #61 A and B. The environment of the café is unique because it's inside of VNTG furniture store! Customers are encouraged to sit anywhere! I chose the marble table with an orange cushioned chair! The colorful sofas would be too comfortable for me! Service by Alex, the owner, was very welcoming and friendly! His enthusiasm and knowledge are excellent! He let us return with our plates lunches... LOL! I had an Oribe Passion Fruit Black Iced Tea for the first round. It hydrated me with a fresh, crisp, and clean flavor! On my second round, I tried a Guaraná soda... it had a wonderful fruity, peppy taste! We highly recommended Cafe VNTG! It's an open-air ambiance with a gentle, cooling cross-breeze! Jk but for me it really is as I stumbled upon this spot as I'm always in the area and love to seek new places and this fun spot sells unique items as well as the vibe in the Kaka'ako area is quite industrial and artsy here at Café VNTG it's like you're in another era with vintage items on consignment is found here and you can find them on Waimanu St part of Kaka'ako Commerce Center behind BMW of Honolulu it's easy to miss if you don't know just look for the feather flag to wave you down. You can certainly park right in front of the biz the owner Alex is just amazing and very welcoming and don't be afraid if furniture is the only thing you see just walk in and you'll see the cafe amongst the many furniture which are all available and is a conversation piece as Alex will tell you all about it is so fascinating. Using local sourced items like Oribe teas, Tradition coffee and syrups by Pono Potion they don't have just the standard drinks but some specialty drinks as well. My first drink is the Paradise Matcha with Oat milk and sweetened with honey lilikoi syrup is topped with honey lilikoi cold foam and this beautiful drink was very light and delicate though couldn't really taste the lilikoi but thoroughly enjoyed it. We did order another drink after we needed lunch and asked Alex if it was okay to bring outside food which he graciously did...oh my heavens I was so grateful for his kindness as he constantly reminded us to seek out anywhere as these antique whimsical setting is just so fun to browse through but we sat and enjoyed ourselves at a nice table and I enjoyed "Alaea Salt Cold Brew" the second time around and what a light sip no jolt or bitterness so smooth and nice with a hint of salted caramel it was a gentle sip. As his primary biz is the furniture I'm so happy that this cafe came along as well and though the location does make parking an issue finding a space right outside is totally fine and you'll be surprise how you'll get lost in time as sitting on any one of the seat of your choice is something that brings comfort and serenity. I got their hojicha latte and my sister got their matcha. It's ok, nothing super special. But then my sister ordered a cold brew and that was the absolute most sour cold brew I've had in my life. I took a small sip and I couldn't get the flavor out of my mouth. It was rough. I love how much seating there is but there's a certain *dustiness* that comes with being in a warehouse that I wasn't a big fan of, especially with all the older furniture around. The service was okay. There were two of them working but it seemed as though they were backed up with orders. So they were trying their best to catch up. A cafe with a furniture store in it, how unique! Parking was hard to find, but the barista kindly informed me of parking located on the other side of the entrance in a parking structure. The drinks were really good, especially the matcha limonada. The furniture is really expensive, but is so interesting to look at! There are movie props, artwork, and all kinds of other zany items. Great music, plenty of places to sit, and good hours to study after class. Now for the bad part. The only reason this place does not get 5 stars is because the owners? got into a loud business discussion, and it got pretty heated. Super unprofessional, could have gone to a back room or taken it outside. Real talk, it kinda ruined the whole vibe for me. Ive been to tons of coffee shops on the island and currently, this one is my absolute favorite to date! The barista (young gentleman with glasses!) was so kind and attentive and really makes sure you get your full drink! Barista of the year award here! The cup is FULL of yummy caffeine! Both the Cafe Cremosa (Basic with oat milk) and the Heavenly Hojicha are so insanely creamy and delicious. It's knocked out Honolulu Coffee Company, Island Vintage, Kai Coffee and my usual Starbucks (I know!! A girl needs her Starbucks!!) off their top spots in my life! I've been excited to try this cafe for the longest time and I had such a disappointing visit. We stood at the counter for a while waiting for the staff to stop having a conversation with a friend. No one said hello or welcome and even looked at us kindly. My matcha was very average and really kinda gross. And then the weirdest thing was the rancid vibe of the entire store. I tried to sit down to enjoy my drink but I felt so uneasy and disturbed. Like the coffee shop was rejecting my presence. It felt supernatural. Ambiance is fun as it's in a antique furniture store, so it's fun to browse around! Very unique. It's fun to be in the midst of it since a lot of the furniture you can sit at. Servers were nice. I always like to see that cafes use the chasen and whisk it there, rather than pre-prepped so that was a plus! I got the Paradise Matcha which is supposed to have lilikoi foam. While it had some matcha flavor, I didn't taste any of the lilikoi foam, which I was dissappointed since I was excited to try it. My friend tried the Suco de milho com cafe, which she thought was really good! We also got the Pao de Queijo- which at the time was about $4-5.50 at the time I went. Which is the Brazilian cheesy bread. I got the Salami and Jam one. It's tasty but a little steep for the price of one in my opinion. read more
