But the food was nasty that even my dumpster of a child refused to swallow it. And the hot chocolate tasted like a watered down dollar tree version of Swiss miss. A quaint, little coffee shop conveniently located within minutes of my apartment. Surprisingly, I had yet to try this place out, but my mom and I prefer the local spots, so I figured the time was now. They don't have much in the way of a seating area (especially in these times), but we were grabbing it to go anyway. I got a strange, delicious mixture of espresso, tonic water, syrup and a dash of cream. Rain forest something or other. Have to admit, I was very apprehensive given the ingredients, but it worked. This coffee shop is a perfect example of a little local treasure. They have other local art, treats, coffee, etc. Service was decent - not overly impressive - but I was satisfied. I enjoyed a latte that was delicious, and not bitter at all. I also had a raspberry turnover. They had all types of flavors for turnovers: raspberry, blueberry, peach, strawberry, and one or two more. I would also like to try their scones! They also has a few types of quiches. They were pre-made and ready to be heated up and served. The fountain beverage that my husband got wasn't very good, but this isn't a place you go to for a fountain drink. This is a cute little café that is rather oddly situated in a sort of business park off State Street. My husband and I came here as he was craving coffee and being Utah it can be a challenge to find somewhere that is open on a Sunday, although Kaffe Mercantile was, so they get a gold star! He ordered an Americano with a breakfast sandwich (bagel with egg, cheese, ham, spinach, tomato, and avocado), and I ordered a hot chocolate with a "Magic Mountain" bar. The hot chocolate was good, better than average, but not amazing. The whipped cream was especially tasty. He seemed to like his Americano. They use Monin syrups, which I appreciate because they are all natural (or more natural than others? They are basically sugar water, but when I'm going to have sugar water I want natural flavors, haha!).We both really enjoyed the bar. It was a mix of coconut, oats, flax seeds, chocolate, and blueberries, and while I've had similar bars never one with blueberries. They were a tasty addition. He thought his sandwich was delicious. The interior is cute with artwork by kids, I'm guessing, and nice cushioned seating. There were quite a few people hanging out out with friends, or taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi and doing some school work. The employees were very friendly, and speed of service was about average. We waited a couple minutes for our drinks, and then a few more for the sandwich. The prices were very reasonable. I would go again if I'm in the area. read more

Buuuuut, then you get crap service and a, now, overpriced product...I like to highlight some things. 1) Don't keep your (single) customer waiting during his morning rush and take 5 minutes to train a new barista on your espresso techniques. - - I just wanted a pain, drip coffee 2) Don't jack up your prices! i should preface this by saying i really enjoy this cafe, and i had a fantastic latte this morning. With that in mind, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong when I order the bagel with cream cheese. Somewhere along the way, the barista hears "I want a vessel that allows me to consume as much cream cheese as possible." Imagine how much cream cheese is normally on a bagel, and then multiply this by a factor of 10, and you'll approach the amount on the bagel I got this morning. In all fairness, this is quite the deal. I got a pound of cream cheese for only 75 cents. My recommendation would be to try this cafe, but if you order a bagel because you like bagels, ask for light cream cheese. read more

I recently moved to Ogden and have been trying various coffee shops trying to find my new "go-to". My first visit to this location of Kaffe Merc was awesome! Service was quick and friendly, my vanilla latte was delicious. Every visit since (I've been there about 10 times now), the quality of the drinks and the service has gone downhill. Like another reviewer mentioned, they don't even offer a basic greeting. Today, my vanilla latte felt a little lighter than usual and tasted like vanilla milk. I don't know if the picture does it justice, but seems like they didn't even give me a full shot of espresso. I think this will be my last visit, I'm not paying those prices for flavored milk. read more

Service is always on-point and there's plenty of room to stretch your legs and sit for a while. Location/Vibe: I prefer the 26th street location's decor and vibe; feels more authentic and historical. There's nothing wrong, per say, with this location. It just doesn't have the wood floors and the old Coke machine and people wandering in from off the street with their dogs. It's located in a business park and this is reflected in the modern chiqueness of the paint and furniture. Seating, etc: Generous seating has always allowed me to have plenty of room to spread out despite the regularity of groups sitting for a while. At this location, I've usually always seen a conference or group meeting at one of the big tables. Hours: This location is not open as long as the 26th St. location. read more

The Starbucks nearby has lousy Yelp reviews, and Kaffe Mercantile has great reviews, so I drove past Starbucks to get to KM. Although the interior seemed clean and friendly, the staff did not. Not a single smile once, and no greeting. I am not even a fan of meaningless pleasantries, but still... try to pretend that you are happy a customer is there. I ordered two americanos with white chocolate and two breakfast sandwiches, one with bacon, one with sausage. The americanos were waaay too watery, and were made well in advance of the breakfast sandwiches, yet not given to me, so they were tepid by the time I received them. The breakfast sandwiches took a really long time, and the ingredients didn't seem fresh, and were super bland. Needed seasoning, and am pretty sure the spinach and tomatoes were past their prime. Gross. I ate mine because I was starving, but it took effort, and my husband didn't even eat his. One bite was enough for him to be completely turned off, which is really rare for him. Would not return in the future. And would recommend that this place be avoided. read more

My advice: Make sure the price they advertise is the price they're charging! In some ways, I agree with so many other reviews on here. This place has a good vibe, great view, and friendly service. But twice now, the price they've rung up has exceeded the advertised price. To be clear, this is not a sales-tax issue--the pretax price was higher than the one listed on the menu, and then tax was added to that. Both times this has occurred, the cashiers apparently had no way to override the system and honor the listed price. This doesn't sit well with me. Will 35 extra cents break the bank? Of course not. At first, I assumed it was just an oversight, that the prices had been changed in the system before being changed on the menu. In fact, the (very nice!) woman who served me this morning seemed surprised to discover that the two prices didn't match. Not her fault, of course--she was just doing her job. But the fact that this pricing issue has happened twice--two months apart--makes me question the honesty of this business owner. It's a bit bait-and-switchy, and I have to wonder how many people are being overcharged without knowing it. That's a little...icky. Additionally--and I know I'm in the minority here--I'm not a fan of the turnovers. For my tastes, they're a little oversweet and quite undercooked and doughy. But again, nice location and friendly service! I'll throw in a couple stars for those elements. read more

I can't find a reason to not like this place. If I lived closer I'd come here more often. I was in the area because my wife had surgery on her foot and I noticed this place was within walking distance. I decided to keep it simple and order the 20oz latte with regular milk. total price was 4.50. Not too bad. I thought the latte was perfect. It had the perfect balance of milk and coffee. The coffee had a nice roast flavor. I wished I would have ordered the 24 oz. The inside is larger than it looks and is nicely decorated. It has plenty of seating from tables to couches. If you are lucky like I was you get a table next to the window with a nice view of the mountains. They do have food items that look amazing. read more

We used to go to this place on 26th Street, and they now have a location in South Ogden, just around the corner from our house. We love this place! It is wonderful to get away from the big chain coffee restaurants; they always have local artwork on the walls, and one of the owners is almost always there. They serve Ibis coffee, all of the coffee drinks are terrific- it's like love in a cup! This is a great locals hang out. Both locations are very warm, welcoming, and enviting. The 26th Street location is charming with local crafts and artwork for sale. There is a quirky thing at the 26th St location: they serve your coffee in souvenir coffee mugs from all over the place, Iike your weird aunt who picked up a mug from every place she ever visited. .. The South Ogden location has a great view and a fireplace, which is delightful in the winter time. Not a charming location, as it is in a business park, but again, great view from the back and a teeny tiny patio off the East side, which we love. Since moving to S.Ogden I have lost my Gold Star Status with Starbucks and I wear that loss with a badge of honor because of Kaffe Mercantile. I love having a true local business where I know the owners and they know me and my morning routine. The baristas are all amazing and shuffle quite a bit between the other locations but are always quick and efficient and I'm rarely ever waiting in line. I love that Kaffe Mercantile also supports local artists and are always changing up the decorations with local art which can be purchased as well. I frequent this place 5-7 times a week and have never had a bad experience in my past 8 months of living here.
