Located in the square with the Nobel Peace Museum, this charming cafe had indoor plus great outdoor seating with blankets to people watch and enjoy the biggest mochaccino we have ever had plus trying a Semla dessert. Two mochaccinos and 1 semla was 175,00 kr or 19.44 Euros. The mochacchino came in a wide cup with lots of chocolate on top. A highlight was watching all the little birds perched beneath the table platform and seeing if the bird was going to help itself to the semla crumb or go bathing in the mochaccino. Great location, lots of seating available. We went on a busy Sunday afternoon yet were seated quickly. It was definitely a medieval dungeon vibe which was unique. Cappuccino and hot coffee were solid. Wasn't really a huge fan of the cinnamon however the carrot cake was amazing. read more

Café Kaffekoppen is a beautiful, tight in the basement and the first floor, but confortable in the outdoor seating. The cozy café has a great food options for breakfast and lunch. We went twice since the cinnamon roll and the turkey sandwich were out of this world. The location needs to be mentioned. The restaurant is located at the heart of the Gamla Stan in front of the Novel Price Museum and only steps from the Royal Castle. The building was built in the 1600s and the architecture is amazing. After arriving in Sweden the night before we decided our first meal would be in the Gamla Stan ( old Town ) so we ended up at the Kaffekoppen ( translates to coffee cup in English ). We ended up sitting outside in their beautiful courtyard area on some long wooden benches with a great view of the main square. We ordered the Chicken Curry Sandwich & the Salmon Spinach Pie, both were amazing and quite large. The service was fast & the prices were more than fair especially considering it was in the heart of the Gamla Stan ( 2 entrees & 2 beverages for 331 Swedish Krona ) translating to just under $ 31 U.S dollars. GREAT stop while visiting Gamla Stan. Out of the 3 small cafes side by side in the square, id say this was the winner for me. Intended on stopping by for just a cappuccino, but due to the jaw dropping response of our table after seeing some sandwiches strolling by, breakfast quickly turned to lunch. Plenty of sandwich options to choose from but don't let the subtle descriptions of "ham and cheese" fool you, you get all of the fixings (see photo for truest form of explanation). This place might scream tourist trap, but some of the local people we met suggested that we met here for late fika in Gamla Stan. Okay, they might not yelpers and might not keep up with the latest trend in cafes, but hey - the place is okay. It's located on the square in Gamla Stan / old town in Stockholm. The interior looks old and chic, and they seem like they don't have many seats inside, but ask for the underground space and you'll feel like you're sitting in a cozy cave. The price is actually not that bad four a tourist-trap cafe, and they have also English menu. They serve Swedish baked stuff with calendar date on the menu (Semla in February, lussekatter in December and so on, not to confuse tourist with the schedule. The coffee/chocolate is served in a large mug, hence the name Kaffekoppen. I didn't have the warm chocolate with whipped cream but had an early gray tea instead and it was as good as an earl gray tea should be. read more

The cappuccinos were average; however, the famous swedish cinnamon buns (kanelbullar) were dry and stale. Though patios were packed, service was quick. Tourist information: Just to be clear. Kaffekoppen and Chokladkoppen are basically the same. They are both tourist traps, very expensive and not really that copy except that you are paying to sit there mainly for the idyllic view. This is a cute little restaurant in old town. We visited from the US and wanted to experience some traditional Swedish food. This place is very small and quaint but the people were super friendly and the food was absolutely amazing. I had the salmon and spinach pie which came out piping hot and toasty. "i've experienced better" is the best word for it. just as other people write here: not sure if i'd go here again. food was fine and nothing special the service was bad as you can imagine: we had to come to a cavhier ourselves finally after a long wait( we are sure that was not a self-service kinda place) the stuff was actually grumpy and whatever it was they didnt seem to like our fair complaints about the high price which is the next point: they have as they say THEIR OWN currency rate...so we payed about 15 euros over the price we were supposed to which i assume is anappropriate..especiallly when the 1st time you hear about it when you see the bill. read more

Definitely better service than the chokladkoppen next door. We just sat outside and enjoyed our hot chocolate. The drinks weren't extra special or anything, and they were 45kr each. Good coffee and food. Cafe overlooks Gamla Stan's main square so there is good people watching, but the smokers also sit outside so the air may not be clear. I enjoyed the salad with smoked salmon. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The Swedes seem to like fresh thyme. We went inside for dessert (and to escape the smokers). Just another over-priced tourist trap. Which is fine- it's what you expect on a main square in Gamla Stan. Stopped for lunch today with husband and friend. Hubby ordered meatball sub. Friend got spinach/salmon quiche. I ordered the smoked salmon salad. Friend's and hubby's dishes were fine, but the salmon filet on my salad was gross. Fish is supposed to be flaky, but mine was mushy. Like cottage cheese. My guess was it had been frozen and maybe re-frozen. I took a total of two small bites and had my hubby taste it to make sure I wasn't imagining it. He had the same reaction I did. I explained quietly and politely to the waitress that there was something wrong with the fish and I would just have what my friend was having instead. She looked at me as if she had never heard of such a thing in her life. She then said she would have to talk to her manager. Came back a few minutes later and said the manager said 'okay' but you will have to pay for half of the salmon salad since you ate some of it. (Mind you, we had taken three small bites. I had maybe eaten 10% of it.) I said, (quietly and politely but firmly) that of course I had eaten some of it. That's how I knew it was bad and, also no, I absolutely was not going to pay for it. She said she would send the manager out. He never came, but they did switch my order and didn't charge for the salad (no way I would've paid anyway). After dinner, we ordered two cups of coffee- one black and one with cream. Waitress comes back with two cups of black coffee and a little bowl of whipped cream. My husband politely explained 'We meant milk, not whipped cream.' Waitress gives us this exasperated look. 'Well, you said CREAM.' I said, 'Yes, that's what we say English.' (For those who have never been there, English is the lingua franca in Stockholm, so I was not out of line in using English.) Anyway- there are about 8 cafes on that square serving basically identical food at highly-inflated prices. Might as well go to one where fish is not mushy and service isn't lousy. And just for the record- I'm not a picky eater at all. I've sent back something in a restaurant maybe 5 times in my life. And I eat out a lot. read more
