    Ahi shoyu poke bowl
    Albert T.

Heard this was the best place to get authentic poke around, i didn't try anywhere else sadly to compare to places like foodland or restaurants. But this place had a Local authentic hole in the wall spot, it's just some sweet old lady coming out in a gas station to serve up some homemade Poke. It was a good combo with the korean seaweed too!

Get poke here! Store is run down but have the best poke! 2 sized offered large size $20

Heard this place was a long time hidden gem for locals, and we decided to pick up some poke, but we were met with a really unfriendly elderly lady who was having a bad day. Totally fine, cos I get it. There are rough days, but I thought the food would make up for it, but it was utter garbage. Poke was extremely extremely salty. Maybe this might right up someone's palette, but definitely not mines. Food that salty is such a health risk. Having major trust issues with spots we always had in mind that were suppose to be good grindz. Poke was definetly pretty to look at side from the spicy poke looking brown liquid and murky. Overall really underwhelming

I don't know why this place has such good reviews. We were in the North Shore area one Sunday, so we stopped by just after 1 to pick up some poke. There is a half pound minimum if you're just getting the poke so we got 1/2 lb of the shoyu, and 1/2 lb of the spicy. The shoyu was a mix of old and new pieces of tuna because half of the pieces were discolored and you could tell have been marinated longer. The spicy poke wasn't even chunks of fish. It was all the leftover end pieces so it was basically tiny morsels of fish. And it wasn't exactly cheap, at $18.99 a pound - especially for fish that isn't fresh. Do yourself a favor and go to Foodland for poke instead. It's half the price and the poke is actually fresh there.

It's been here for a long time! Before all the other food truck places were around Giovanni's I used to stop by here grab some drinks and poke before getting a garlic shrimp plate. There's a sign in front - they famous for their shoyu poke. The lady serving the poke in the back has been here for a long time too. Auntie is nice. Can be a bit aggressive but shes sweet. they got snacks drinks and all kine. Poke is OK it's not the freshest. But still good. The convenience of having this here is great.

Got the shoyu (not pictured) and spicy ahi. Both were awesome. I like the slight spice to the shoyu as well. Prices seemed reasonable. Store was a bit dingy and flies were flying around the poke area but still good food.

Went there based on the recommendations on Yelp. The signs are promoting the poke. I was excited for a delicious, fresh poke. I always compared the spicy ahi, so I had to try. The worker was friendly, but the fish was not appealing at all. The taste of spicy ahi missed the flavors in the traditional recipe I have ate numerous times. What a waste of money. Only at a few bites of the fish. I was a little afraid of being sick.

    Ahi tuna and tako
    Didi N.

The ahi tuna poke had a weird texture to it. It wasn't buttery smooth like other pokes we've had. It reminded me of basic poke from San Jose, CA. The tako was chewy and lacked flavor. It tasted like it was marinated with sesame oil and nothing else- not even salt. We were disappointed because we heard great things about this place! Maybe it was just a bad day when we went.

We ordered the spicy Ahi, shoyu Ahi, tako and the standard with seaweed
    Ivy X.

This place was recommended by a friend, and it's so close to all the shrimp trucks, so we stopped by. However, the quality of the food must had gone down compare to what my friend told me. The fish doesn't taste fresh, and there is almost no flavor. The best out of the 4 we ordered was the tako. With so many poke places around, I really hope they will go back to being a better quality

Great poke. I don't recommend the bowl. It's just rice and poke. Just buy the poke by the lb.

I would've immediately noticed that the fish is NOT worth eating. I'm starving. We are in a flash flood watch. I forced myself to give it a shot, & immediately was filled with regret as I spit it back out. It was disgusting & my "limu poke," wasn't even POKE. It was straight up mush. I'm even second-guessing if it was even ahi. I've never seen poke like that before, how it immediately disintegrated while using my chopsticks to pick it up. Not even the kine that is made to be patty style. I know it's previously frozen, but I have no idea what that was. On top of all of that there was a black hair in my poke. ** As seen in the photo ** My mouth dropped open when I saw the reviews of people raving about how good it is.... then I clicked on their profiles & saw they're all tourist, so of course they like it. As a local, do NOT waste your money. My food went straight in the trash. There's actually no good poke places on this side...even the Tamura's Hau'ula is the worst one on the island. Beyond their similar naming convention, and despite the obvious lack of rides, characters, industry, movies, TV shows, cartoons, size, and so much more, it's because this place is just as magical! And, to be honest, with how much much less it costs to come here, a big part of me (and my wallet) leaves even happier! Compared to some of the other Foodlands I've been to on Oahu, this one might be one of the oldest (the building feels old), but I've been to this location the most. Every time we head up towards the North Shore, it almost always includes a stop here. Sometimes it's just to grab some drinks and/or snacks for the drive, but it's usually to pick up lunch to bring with us to the beach. Either way, whatever I end up buying here always includes their many varieties of poke! Whether you prefer yours with tuna, salmon, or hamachi (or one of their many other seafood choices), spicy or mild, or with a classic sort of shoyu/ponzu sauce or with some mayo mixed in, Foodland's display cases are bound to have at least one or two types that will pique your tastebuds. For me, my usual go-to picks are their Furikake Salmon, Wasabi with Salmon, Limu Ahi, and Hawaiian Style Ahi, but regardless of what I end up getting, each time I've been here, every poke I've had has always been so fresh and delicious! If poke/poke bowls aren't your thing, there's also a solid selection of hot foods to choose from, including hot bowls and musubis, but I can't say I'm familiar with any of them (#teampoke). As for the rest of the market (shockingly, they sell other stuff), their shelves and freezers has all of the staples you could need, as well as some local offerings. Given how the vast majority of things are shipped into Hawaii, prices are obviously higher than what you'd see on the mainland, but I can't say how it compares to other markets on the island, like Safeway, Whole Foods, or H-Mart. Along with their much beloved poke (just like the rides at Disneyland, the poke counter will typically have a line, though it moves significantly faster), the other thing my friends and I tend to leave with is some of Foodland's merch (just like at Disneyland...). More specifically, their musubi, pineapple, and poke tote/grocery bags, whether for ourselves or to bring back as souvenirs. After all, how else are we going to carry all of that poke back to the car? Can't wait to come back the next time I'm on the island!

The sweet little old ladies, who btw are all filipinos (not native Hawaiians), claimed that the fruits we've been buying during same time for several years were now out of season! Hmmm..... sus! The only fruits they had were papayas, mangoes, guava and coconut slices. Please beware before shelling out top dollars thinking the fruit at these stands are locally grown!
