But this place had a Local authentic hole in the wall spot, it's just some sweet old lady coming out in a gas station to serve up some homemade Poke. Heard this place was a long time hidden gem for locals, and we decided to pick up some poke, but we were met with a really unfriendly elderly lady who was having a bad day. Totally fine, cos I get it. There are rough days, but I thought the food would make up for it, but it was utter garbage. Poke was extremely extremely salty. I don't know why this place has such good reviews. We were in the North Shore area one Sunday, so we stopped by just after 1 to pick up some poke. There is a half pound minimum if you're just getting the poke so we got 1/2 lb of the shoyu, and 1/2 lb of the spicy. The shoyu was a mix of old and new pieces of tuna because half of the pieces were discolored and you could tell have been marinated longer. The spicy poke wasn't even chunks of fish. It was all the leftover end pieces so it was basically tiny morsels of fish. And it wasn't exactly cheap, at $18.99 a pound - especially for fish that isn't fresh. Do yourself a favor and go to Foodland for poke instead. It's half the price and the poke is actually fresh there. read more

It's been here for a long time! Before all the other food truck places were around Giovanni's I used to stop by here grab some drinks and poke before getting a garlic shrimp plate. There's a sign in front - they famous for their shoyu poke. The lady serving the poke in the back has been here for a long time too. Auntie is nice. I was in the area and decided to pick up poke from Kahuku Superette. It was pretty early in the morning at around 8, and our poke was made FRESH. We ordered the limu and shoyu. She had the fish chopped up but added the seasoning when we ordered. I don't know if this is always the case or if it was just because we were there early. The fish was super fresh and the toppings were really good. I loved the crunchiness of the limu, and it was extra good because it wasn't sitting for very long. I came back to Hawaii just so I could get the soy sauce poke by the pound and rice. It is really filling and perfect after you have had a long day at the beach and need a place to eat or if you are headed to the beach, you can stick it in a cooler and it is already marinated. Some people want it marinated fresh, but I kind of like that the soy sauce is soaked up by the big chunks of tuna. There is a little spice which is good. They have variety as well. But I am writing this review on behalf of friends that don't have a Yelp account and wanted others to know their experience. They've been coming here their whole life, and so they're very disappointed. Apparently, the only thing consistent was the rude staff. They got their most famous poke, the shoyu poke. There's also now a minimum $20 for a poke bowl. They bought a $34 worth of "fresh" poke but only to find out that it's mixed with old and new poke. The texture of some poke pieces were hard and the others were mushy and very dark colour. Good thing they didn't get food poisoning, but their SIL has gotten food poisoning from here. read more

Any trip home from the north shore is way too sad without a little treat, so a quick stop at Kahuku Superette was definitely necessary. I wanted to share with my husband, so although the spicy ahi looked creamy and rich, I chose the ahi limu poke with medium sized rice, and drizzled it with some shoyu. It was fresh and perfectly portioned to share without feeling too full of fresh fish. The best bonus was seeing a six pack apple cider for only $4! Their poke bowls are deliberately served with their rice diagonal so you can get poke and rice in EVERY bite. I love their foresight!! Their rice is also served hot, which I loved, but I know others aren't fans of their poke warming up. *** There definitely IS something different about their shoyu sauce, but I couldn't put my finger on it! A friend recommended that we stop for this grocery store poke when we were in Oahu. It was right next to another stop we were making at the shrimp truck so it's easy to combine. When we were there, they only had two options. We went with the Shoyu Poke Bowl. I typically prefer my poke a little saucier, but this was pretty good. The rice was warm and perfectly sticky so no complaints there. I'd get poke here and then take it over to the shrimp truck for the perfect lunch. read more

This poke place was recommended on north shore since there aren't that many shops here. It is a small grocery store that sells lot of poke variety and the portion is huge. You can get a mixed combo or single flavor with a large portion of rice. The poke was a little too salty for me but went ok with rice. There are outdoor seating on the next lot near by but no seating onsite. The service was pretty fast though. read more

I've been here for two different purposes. The first was a Sunday afternoon after flying in and trying to find groceries. While this place has plenty of food, wouldn't recommend shopping here with a laundry list of items. Grocery items are a little pricey, they don't have bags, and honestly it's pretty much has whatever you'd see at a gas station mini mart. That being said, it was the only grocery store in miles that was open on Sunday and we were very happy about that! Second was for their poke! The reviews RAVED about the poke and many of our friends pointed us here. The poke comes pre-packaged or customized. We ordered the Shoyu Poke bowl (apparently their main/most popular poke). We got it with rice (I'd highly recommend that but heads up it's ~$1.50 more) and took it over to the tables by the food trucks to eat. It was good! I'm not HUGE on poke, but it tasted yummy and had a little kick which I really enjoyed. This is kinda odd, but I liked the smaller sliced poke vs the bigger/thicker pieces. This unassuming convenience store serves a very good poke. Two sizes: large and small. Trust me, the small is plenty for lunch and probably even dinner. Once you choose your size at the nondescript counter, she fills half the bowl with sticky rice and then the other half with whatever you want. We actually chose ahi tuna plus shoyu tuna. Interestingly the warm rice actually cooks some of the fresh fish which we chose to take home with us. The woman serving was very helpful and congratulated us on also choosing seaweed salad to accompany our poke bowls. As I said in the opening sentence, this place is just a convenience store that happens to serve a very tasty poke bowl. From the outside this place is nondescript. Don't be fooled by the exterior. Really fresh poke that is in a small convenience store in the side of the road. Really close to the famous Giovanni shrimp truck. The woman that helped me was super helpful and they had many varieties. I ordered the shoyu ahi poke which I really enjoyed more then the spicy salmon.
