Honestly, I don't get kalbi very often because it's usually so expensive so I don't have a lot to compare this to but you can't go wrong with this kalbi plate for $12 and the shoyu chicken is $10. They recently got a nice new hot food display to keep the plates and spam musubis hot. They had some new musubis with like spam, egg, bacon but haven't tried yet. Heard this was the best place to get authentic poke around, i didn't try anywhere else sadly to compare to places like foodland or restaurants. But this place had a Local authentic hole in the wall spot, it's just some sweet old lady coming out in a gas station to serve up some homemade Poke. I don't know why this place has such good reviews. We were in the North Shore area one Sunday, so we stopped by just after 1 to pick up some poke. There is a half pound minimum if you're just getting the poke so we got 1/2 lb of the shoyu, and 1/2 lb of the spicy. The shoyu was a mix of old and new pieces of tuna because half of the pieces were discolored and you could tell have been marinated longer. The spicy poke wasn't even chunks of fish. It was all the leftover end pieces so it was basically tiny morsels of fish. And it wasn't exactly cheap, at $18.99 a pound - especially for fish that isn't fresh. Do yourself a favor and go to Foodland for poke instead. It's half the price and the poke is actually fresh there. read more

It's been here for a long time! Before all the other food truck places were around Giovanni's I used to stop by here grab some drinks and poke before getting a garlic shrimp plate. There's a sign in front - they famous for their shoyu poke. The lady serving the poke in the back has been here for a long time too. Auntie is nice. I was in the area and decided to pick up poke from Kahuku Superette. It was pretty early in the morning at around 8, and our poke was made FRESH. We ordered the limu and shoyu. She had the fish chopped up but added the seasoning when we ordered. I don't know if this is always the case or if it was just because we were there early. The fish was super fresh and the toppings were really good. I loved the crunchiness of the limu, and it was extra good because it wasn't sitting for very long. It is really filling and perfect after you have had a long day at the beach and need a place to eat or if you are headed to the beach, you can stick it in a cooler and it is already marinated. But I am writing this review on behalf of friends that don't have a Yelp account and wanted others to know their experience. They've been coming here their whole life, and so they're very disappointed. Apparently, the only thing consistent was the rude staff. They got their most famous poke, the shoyu poke. There's also now a minimum $20 for a poke bowl. They bought a $34 worth of "fresh" poke but only to find out that it's mixed with old and new poke. The texture of some poke pieces were hard and the others were mushy and very dark colour. Good thing they didn't get food poisoning, but their SIL has gotten food poisoning from here. read more

A friend recommended that we stop for this grocery store poke when we were in Oahu. It was right next to another stop we were making at the shrimp truck so it's easy to combine. When we were there, they only had two options. We went with the Shoyu Poke Bowl. I typically prefer my poke a little saucier, but this was pretty good. I've been here for two different purposes. The first was a Sunday afternoon after flying in and trying to find groceries. While this place has plenty of food, wouldn't recommend shopping here with a laundry list of items. That being said, it was the only grocery store in miles that was open on Sunday and we were very happy about that! Second was for their poke! The reviews RAVED about the poke and many of our friends pointed us here. The poke comes pre-packaged or customized. We ordered the Shoyu Poke bowl (apparently their main/most popular poke). We got it with rice (I'd highly recommend that but heads up it's ~$1.50 more) and took it over to the tables by the food trucks to eat. It was good! I'm not HUGE on poke, but it tasted yummy and had a little kick which I really enjoyed. This is kinda odd, but I liked the smaller sliced poke vs the bigger/thicker pieces. This unassuming convenience store serves a very good poke. Two sizes: large and small. Trust me, the small is plenty for lunch and probably even dinner. Once you choose your size at the nondescript counter, she fills half the bowl with sticky rice and then the other half with whatever you want. We actually chose ahi tuna plus shoyu tuna. Interestingly the warm rice actually cooks some of the fresh fish which we chose to take home with us. The woman serving was very helpful and congratulated us on also choosing seaweed salad to accompany our poke bowls. As I said in the opening sentence, this place is just a convenience store that happens to serve a very tasty poke bowl. From the outside this place is nondescript. Don't be fooled by the exterior. Delicious, super fresh poke. Lia is incredible and makes all of the local grindz herself. She shows pride in her recipes, which is awesome. Although it's a bit of a drive and the exterior of the building isn't too enticing, it's totally worth trying.
