    Chicken Fingers
    Gary G.

First visit to Kahula (Sturbridge MA) on Black Friday. The short version: everything roughly average, nothing bad but only the spicy wings were remarkable. Really good on those. Old school vibe to some extent but more sports-bar-meets-dance-hall vibe. None of the service staff was Chinese. Egg Rolls: Decent. Crunchy. Finely minced veggies inside, not that moist, but duck sauce helped. Spicy Wings: Plump, dark, crisp skin from cooking, bursting with juices, great tender and juicy meat. Spice came not from a covering sauce, but from within. Good quantity, size, quality, and not just heat. Plenty of that intensely chickeny and five spice flavor a good Chinese wing should have. Sweet & Sour Chicken, sauce on side by request: VERY crunchy chicken fingers, long and thin, with a thin extra crunchy batter closer to tempura. Meat neither overly moist nor overly dry. Sauce a thick gloppy fire engine red, more sweet than sour, no fruit or add-ins. Pork Fried Rice: Decent color, but dry and not much oomph. Some pork nuggets. Lobster Sauce: Tender, smooth, thick without being gloppy, and mild of flavor. Probably my second favorite item after the wings. Good, not elite. Marco Polo Noodles: Imagine shrimp with lobster sauce, over a bed of thick yellow spaghetti noodles, with strips of beef added to the mix, but without much flavor.

Just a little a this 'n that" (Pete Seeger) My final review of 2022 will describe the worst customer service we encountered all year. We had an errand to run in Sturbridge and figured we'd include a lunch stop in town. The Yelp app brought us to Soup to Nuts. #1) I love soup and #2) it's located inside the Sturbridge Marketplace, so we figured we'd do some shopping and browsing too. When we approached Soup to Nuts we saw a sign that said they opened at 11:00. The front door had another sign that said they opened at 12:00. Since the door was locked, and it was about 11:30, we figured we'd check out the Sturbridge Flea Market and come back. At 12:02 their front door was unlocked, and the sign announcing the 12:00 opening was gone. As we entered the restaurant, we were "greeted" by four words spoken (or more accurately snarled) in a very gruff and rude manner - "we're not open yet". Tone of voice matters, and I will look you straight in the eye and put my hand on a stack of bibles and tell you his tone was beligerant and angry (to the point of aggressive). It was beyond rude. It was shocking. So we turned around, left and never came back. Happy New Year ya filthy animal.

I will say that on our first visit we thought the owner was initially a bit gruff as others had mentioned but we quickly realized that's not the case and he is an incredibly gracious host. We've had both the corn chowder and sandwiches here and they are delicious! Keep in mind with some reviews that people are the problem and not the establishment.

I thought they would have a bunch of soups but they only had three soups, chicken noodle soup, spicy and mild beef chili soup, and a vegetable soup. I was hoping they had a corn chowder or tomato bisque soup but they only had the 3 choices. I definitely wasn't feeling the Chili soup so I had to decide between the chicken noodle or vegetable. I went with the safer choice of the chicken noodle soup. The soup was very full of fresh ingredients and tasty. I got the large soup which came with a choice of two pieces of bread or 4 packs of oyster crackers. I went with the crackers and I needed it to add to soup to make me full. I bought the largest soup which was 32 oz and it put me back $15+ which was a lot more expensive then I expected but I think the price point is needed for them to survive as the place wasn't extremely busy even though it was lunch time. Service was good too and guy at the counter explained what they had and didn't have. They also do protein bowls as well which I decided not to do. Overall, the soup was good, price was little high, and I was little disappointed they didn't have what I was hoping for but overall pretty good.

And another perk is that Panera has the $5 drink club. Refill your drink as much as you want all month long for $5. Enjoy the free high speed wifi. It's such a great homely atmosphere to just relax after you're done eating and maybe take care of some work; as well.

When I came here on mid-day Sunday, it was empty, no lines and the service was quick and accommodating. When ordering, I asked the cashier if certain foods had onion in it and he was a little hesitant and not very sure. I didn't like that. As for the food, overall it was good. My son had the Chipotle chicken avo melt and liked it. I had the Ciabatta Cheesesteak. To be honest, I expected more. The bread was too soft, and there wasn't alot of cheese and steak. But it was pretty good. I liked how we got a free side of chips or apple. Since we had a dog, we were able to sit at the outdoor dining area. It was pretty nice and quiet. For reference, they have space to dine inside as well. Overall, this is a great place to stop and grab food and I recommend it.
