Food makes up for some of the strange service going on here. Dining in I would imagine it's just like dining in anywhere else that you enjoy eating at. But my experience mainly is coming from doing takeout. My take out experience is not the greatest only due to the fact they will give you a time frame for your food exactly 15 minutes. And they will say that to everybody who does take out back to back on call ins. So they give everyone a flat time to show up but you're really waiting an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Even on their busiest days there will be a line of people waiting for their food but they still don't accurately tell people different times when they order and the amount of food that are ordering so they aren't honest about that. This place is absolutely fantastic. The portions are a large for the price and the staff is beyond friendly. Currently I believe that they are out on a family excursion, so you have to wait until August to order your take out. Other than that it's absolutely amazing! I think it's great they took time off as well to spend time with their family. The decor is kind of old school 80s 90s feel for a Chinese restaurant but you know what, that just adds to the allure. Kind of remind you of childhood. I haven't been to this place since I was a kid and I was more than happy back and early June to order from here again and the food tasted exactly the same. As far as Chinese food goes, it's the best in Palmer, MA. Huge portions, fresh food, and great luncheon specials! Much better than the others in Palmer. Sit down, not fancy, but good food! If you can go for lunch or take out, it's probably best. It must get crazy busy. Highly recommend! read more

I ordered the generals chicken which was good although not that spicy and the missus ordered the beef and broccoli which she said was the best she's ever had. Plenty of parking with easy in and easy out. The gentleman running it is nice as could be. Wish we lived closer. read more

We usually go to Wen Ming. With one bite of rice I immediately wished we hadn't opted to try China House. The food is almost flavorless, the rice was overcooked. Chicken wings were quite possibly the most bland I have ever had. Never mind the fact that they were nothing like what you expect at an Asian restaurant. The portion size is large but that's about all you're getting. I'd rather pay the same price for less food of better quality any day. Skip it and go to Wen Ming for sure! read more

China House has become the go-to place for Chinese food. The food is always good and consistent. It's a local family owned place and they appreciate the business. I drive a distance to go there, but it's worth it. I love the wonton soup, the egg rolls are my favorites, and the chicken fried rice and beef lo mein are on every order too. Everything is always hot and fresh, so I have no complaints. The best thing is to go there, order, and have a mai tai while you wait for your food; or order after the first mai tai and have a second while the food is being made; the possibilities are endless! read more

Portions are huge. If you have a hungry teenager at home I guess you could do worse. Unfortunately the food is low quality. I ordered two lunch specials today. Mountains of fried rice but not much meat. The vegetables were 90% cheap cabbage. My chow mein didn't even come with noodles, isn't that the base of chow mein? This is my entire family's favorite (American) Chinese food, and has been for well over two decades! We've all lived in different states, and even when we find a place that's okay, China House is still the standard by which we judge all others. Some of my recommended items include: wonton soup, pork fried rice, chicken fingers, crab rangoons, purple pork (boneless ribs), orange chicken, and finally their MASSIVE dumplings. I'm not an egg roll girl, but my father is a big fan and these are his favorite. If you wanna try a little bit of everything, I highly recommend trying the Pu Pu Platter, which includes the majority of the items above (don't forget the duck sauce!). Prices are more than appropriate for the quality of the food, and I've never waited more than 20 minutes for an order, even during busy holidays like New Years. The people are always friendly, and sometimes if you order a lot of stuff, they throw in a couple things for free! read more

It saddens me to write this review. I used to love their food and would come here weekly after work for take-out. My husband began to notice that his chicken was dry on occasion, a few weeks after that the order was just intolerably bad. The general's chicken in particular must have been several days old. It was tough as nails... so tough, I nearly fractured a tooth on it. Not sure what happened here but this dish used to be awesome and now it is so bad that I could not even feed it to the dog.. On the brighter side I always loved their mixed drinks and the service has always been great. I look forward to the day when they go back to the old way of doing things in the kitchen. read more

This was my experience, I am staying in Palmer because I am working on the casino they are building in Springfield. I had just worked a 10 hr day and I was starving. I walk into this place and there is a small bar with 4 chairs near the entrance. There are 2 ladies sitting at it having drinks. I sit down and the woman, who I assume was the owner, stares at me and says "what". I say "what" back, in the form of a question, because I can't believe how rude she's being and I'm not sure what she's asking. "What you want" she replies and I say "to look at a menu" to which she says "eat in or take out" all in a very rude tone. I say to eat in and she says "then you can't sit at the bar". wtf? So I leave. If I was starving I wouldn't spend a dime in the establishment. I've never been treated so rudely as a customer! read more

I rarely write bad reviews about anything and after reading others' reviews I almost feel like I was in a different restaurant. When I'm in the area there's another Chinese restaurant I make sure I visit but I was in the opposite area of town, had gone by the China House Restaurant many times, and decided to try it. I was so disappointed! First, its good points. The receptionist was polite and after taking my order she immediately brought the order to the kitchen. Service was prompt; I had my order well within the 15 minutes that was promised. Although it's a little on the expensive side the portions are generous. Now, the not-so-good. My order was pork lo mein and a combo plate of boneless ribs, pork fried rice, and an egg roll. All the food, including the egg roll, was VERY greasy. It literally dripped from the egg roll, left oil on my spoon while rolling the lo mein noodles onto my fork and the plate bottom was also coated in grease as were the pieces of boneless ribs. The boneless rib portion was a little skimpy. Both the fried rice and lo mein had very little ingredients other than rice and noodles. There were just a few very small slivers of pork in the lo mein and a few bean sprouts and slices of onion, but that's it. No carrots, bamboo shoots, or celery like the majority of restaurants have. So, although the portions are large I really paid for sautéed rice and noodle servings. Maybe because of the many positive reviews I'll try them again the next time I'm in town. read more
