when Kai's opened they had decent food and service. However, their quality of food and service has gone down. The last 4 times I have ordered to go food they have gotten the order wrong. They charge an extra $3 for fries and they always forget to put them in the bag. Because they don't accept phone calls (only text) it makes it hard to get ahold of them. The prices have gone up while the quality has gone down. The only reason you would go here is for the views. read more

First time eating at this place with my family. We were looking for a place to eat after hitting the farmer's market nearby. Glad we chose this place to eat at. This place was so good we went back twice! This was the 1st restaurant we ate at upon landing and made sure it was our last stop as well! Everything was delicious!! We ate here several years ago and totally enjoyed the food, the service and the location. Not any longer! The location is still nice but the food and the service was terrible! I had a pizza, which I admit was okay, my wife had the mahi mahi tacos and you'd be hard put to find the fish in the tacos...... and they were $24. My wife was served her tacos right away and had to eat them while they were warm and had finished them before they brought her her drink. The pizza came later! What a terrible experience! read more

The four stars is for the service and oceanfront dining. Our server was great! We ordered the fish special which was four stars, tasty and not dry. The ultimate cheeseburger was not really a burger because you couldn't pick it up and eat it, you needed to eat it with a fork, which disqualifies it as a burger. But otherwise it was okay. Wouldn't order it if you expect to eat it like a burger. I tried the smash burger and wouldn't order that again, honestly the bun is dry and crumbly, the burger needed seasoning, the sauce and veggies on it were not enough flavor. But it was perfectly cooked. The Kai logo on the bun is a nice touch but the bun, I didn't even eat it. We also had a pizza which was really good actually, better than the burger, and the brownie dessert is enough for four people to share. Overall I'd give it another try and not eat a burger. $122 for two mediocre burgers, a fish entree, and a pizza and the brownie dessert ... is hmm, a lot. read more

just stopped in for a bite to eat by myself at the bar and I was so pleasantly surprised. this wasn't on our places to eat that we had planned but since I was walking by I decided to stop in because a burger sounded amazing. it was so fabulous. I did the BYOB and added pesto and avocado but even if it had been a plain cheeseburger I know it would have been awesome. for my side I got a Caesar salad and it's one of the best I've had in a long time. very happy I stopped by. read more

The best thing about my experience at Kai's was the view. Service was slow, water came in cocktail glasses and was not refilled. The house coffee was awful and the chai tasted like melted ice cream mixed with water. Food prices are outfreakingrageous for burgers that tasted like cardboard. Maybe the cocktails are super good but I'm never going to know. Go next door to Papa Kona for the same view with much better food. read more

I was walking along the road looking for a place to stop. I could see the beautiful waves along the shore and Kai had a clear view of this beautiful scene so i stopped in. I asked the hostess if I could sit somewhere to enjoy the waves. She told me to sit at the end of the bar. I guess she suggested this because I was alone but there were lots of tables available close to the water in this nearly empty place. I had a poor view of the water so I waited patiently hoping to catch the attention of the bartender, who was busy talking and chatting with her other customers. I must add she really only had two small groups of people at the bar with which she was chatting and having a wonderful time with while I was ignored. I waited a long time before she gave me a menu and darted away. I waited even longer before I caught her attention again, when I told her I wanted to sit where I could see the waves. She told me I had to return to the front to have the hostess seat me at a table. I don't know why I could not have simply walked over to one of the many empty tables but I did as I was told. I returned to the front and the hostess seated me at one of the table with a view of the water. The bartender showed up fairly quickly with the beer I requested. A few minutes later, a server told me I had to pay for my beer before I left. Her repeated demands confused me...doesn't everyone have to pay for their purchases before they leave a restaurant? But the server insisted I had to stand up and go to the bar to pay for the beer that was brought to me in the restaurant. So I had the further pleasure of returning to the bar and waiting again until I could catch the attention of a bartender to pay for my beer. By this time I was getting pretty frustrated. I was literally running circles around the place while the staff didn't do a thing. I returned to my table, where I overheard a fellow at the next table rave about what good service the table received. It became pretty clear to me that the service at Kai was prepared to do handstands with a bigger table in the likely hope that they would score a big tip but could not have cared less about me and my single beer. The staff seemed utterly oblivious as to how they had treated me. The terrible service I received was in sharp relief to the service I received a little ways down the road at the Fish Hopper, where the sweet bartender served me promptly, and offered to check to see if the closed kitchen could provide me with something, and in every way treated me so well. She was friendly and quick and it was clear that she really cared about the quality of service she was providing, as opposed to the staff at Kai who were willing to do handstands as long as they might get a tip out of their customers. read more

Tried this place for the first time to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Ordered her a kids meal and was told the drink was not included so add $4.00 which made it $14 for her kids meal. $14 for two nuggets some fries and a kids sized drink. Food was served and asked for a ranch, but was told it would be $1.00 extra. Ordered $15 burgers for the rest of the kids only to be told that the fries were not included and would be an additional $3.00 charge. Food was tasty, but be prepared to be nickeled and fined.
