OMGGGGGG This place is amazing. We were looking for a quick breakfast bite and didn't expect much since we were gonna eat whatever was close by and easy - but I was blown away. I did not expect something so good. I can't eaten gluten or dairy, so I got the breakfast sandwich with gluten free bread, egg, vegan cheese, arugula, tomato, and a mayo(?) spread. It was so freaking good. I was salty because it was expensive but everything gluten free has a surcharge but I was sooooo happy and feel like it was totally worth it. What happens when you take Lil's Cafe and rebrand it? The answer is Kaibur Coffee! The business is not under the same ownership as Lil's nor is the staff the same. Their former sister cafe Lilliput has acquired some of their staff. I am pleased with the fact that the new staff has chosen to retain both a breakfast and lunch menu that can be made vegan friendly. When you go inside you will still see some of the remnants of Lil's since they had just opened. I arrived during the lunch hour and the place was packed. The desserts looked very inviting-especially the Hamentachen. Purim was last week so I figured they must be left over. Vegan desserts are marked with a "v". I wanted get that vegan pie they were offering for dessert but they were sold out. I was debating what to get when the lady in front me suggested I go with the vegan egg sandwich on toast. I did just that. When my turn came I inquired about a phone number and learned they took out the phone. I ordered my vegan egg sandwich made with tofu scramble, vegan cheese, and vegenaise and tomato. The man behind the counter told me he would bring it out. I saw they do take credit cards using the "square" system I had seen before. Prices here are very reasonable but please note that certain ad ons carry a small upcharge and they are listed on the menu. There is a small seating area in front and additional tables in the back room next to the gender neutral bathroom. I managed to snag one of those while reading a printed menu for me to take home. Since I noticed people with their laptops I learned they are still using the same WiFi network as Lil's. Pass code available upon request. I got my sandwich and believe me it was very good and indeed filling. I'm glad I didn't get dessert. The huge vegan chocolate chip cookie and brownie next to it looked inviting but I refrained for now. This place is not totally vegan. You can get regular menu items. I did inquire about gluten free items and was told they have them. Please note however, the printed menu says the following: "While we offer gluten free bread we cannot guarantee that our food is safe for those with celiac disease. We will do our best to minimize cross contamination, but we use a shared grill and toaster." It goes on to say that you can check with a barista and they can suggest items that minimize cross contamination. The coffee they use comes from a shop in Philadelphia. Although they have giant bags on the shelves they are not for sale. They hope to eventually sell some. Breakfast runs until 2 pm. If you would prefer lunch they offer various sandwiches, rice bowls, and salads. The tiny cafe is located right in the heart of Polish Hill near Herron Ave. Street parking is available. I hope to try a lunch item next time I visit. read more

We found Kaibur through the Coffee Passport and I am so glad we did. Excellent coffee shot with primarily vegan/vegetarian menu items including donuts! The tofu scramble sandwich was so good! I was very pleased with Kaibur. I'm lactose intolerant so getting certain things at coffee shops always makes me nervous (I've caught a few lazy baristas poor whole milk instead of soy before) but this place was great! Not only was their soy chai tea one of the best I've ever had but the barista was nervous he made it with the incorrect milk and remade it for me without me having to ask. I also had an egg sandwich that was very nice and filling, the bread was delicious! It's a small space so it felt pretty cramped especially when there's a line of people to order but that's made up for by its location. Tucked into the Polish Hill landscape I was able to explore a part of the city I never would've gone otherwise. Can't wait to go back! read more

My Girlfriend and I were staying nearby for a concert. We were just looking for a decent breakfast and this place is SO GOOD. I see online they have great vegan options, my partner and I are not vegan and we can confirm all options are great. Their sandwiches are great with this garlic butter on ciabatta bread. We got the chai and I was blown away. Whatever they use, it's spicy and sweet and perfect. This is a wonderful place for breakfast, cannot recommend enough. read more

I've been eyeing up this little coffee shop on Polish Hill for months and finally had the opportunity to check it out. Parking can be rough in Polish Hill, but I was able to find a space pretty easily on a Thursday morning. I went with an oat milk latte, which was really tasty. They serve breakfast and lunch and have tons of vegan options- which is great. I didn't pick up any food this time around, but plan on trying their food soon! As I waited for my drink to be ready, I walked around the little shop, admiring the art on the walls and their extra room in the back which would be perfect for studying or working. Overall, I really liked it here and am looking forward to coming back again. read more

"Oh great, another garbage vegan doughnut baker who probably just shoved an insane amount of sugar into their doughnuts. Super. Whatever, let's give it a whirl and expect nothing." This was my thought process when I tried Wolfteeth doughnuts at the (now) Kaibur coffee (former Lilliput cafe) last year. Then my soul was revived and dead black heart was resurrected a little bit. I have had doughnuts from Seattle, to Brooklyn, to god damned Japan. WOLFTEETH TAKES THE DAMN CAKE ON BEST DOUGHNUTS PERIOD. Vegan or not vegan. (Coming from an obnoxious vegan baker who is really stupidly snobby about vegan pastries, this is big.) Yes Kaibur has food and coffee, but the doughnuts are where it's at. Plus, doughnuts can clearly sustain life so nothing else matters. If it happens to be a day without doughnuts at Kaibur, FEAR NOT, indulge in the best damn cinnamon roll I have ever shoved into my face. The espresso is great. Service people and owner have weird vibes that are somewhere between generically pretentious and critically bored. The breakfast sandwiches and bagels are some of the blandest in town. You cannot order takeout without going through a web application. Hours are terrible. read more

Simplicity at its finest. Small menu and because of that they have perfected everything on it. My girlfriend is Vegan and I am not. This place had something to offer the both of us. I had been here twice before the change and I just have to say YAY. Whilst the parking may sucketh...the food and options are improved for vegans so I didn't care that we had to parallel park on the "wrong" side of the street on a 90% grade..... Good tunes, still hipster of course but I'm not bothered by that. Great Kaibur breakfast & my DH had the staple Punk Toast....we each ordered a side of setain to try it out - AMAZE. They managed to season it and it tasted a bit like bologna - weird but good for sure. Great texture. Prices are NOT MENTAL, line ups are.We arrived shortly before 10 and there was a decent wait. There was room at the bar and at tables - a lot of takeout. We moved away from the neighbourhood last summer but we will be heading back often now for breakfast for sure. Great americanos as well. Excellent - from start to finish. Had the Thai bowl and the honey cardamom latte - absolutely delicious! Shared avocado toast with a friend - perfect and they mash the avocado like I personally prefer instead of giant slices. They were patient in answering questions about the different beverages and just generally a really chill environment. Will be back soon! read more

Awesome little hole in the wall no-frills coffee shop/eatery. They have a nice coffee menu with a variety of coffee drinks, including espresso based drinks and cold brew. Their food menu includes a variety of breakfast and lunch items as well as pastries. I had a lox bagel and a cortado and both were quite delicious. They also seem to specialize in some vegan and gluten free options. The seating area is very comfortable with an interesting array of artwork, including sci-fi (Star Wars) and posters from various rock and metal bands. The outdoor porch seating is also very nice. This was, hands down, the best breakfast I've eaten out in Pittsburgh. My wife and I had the breakfast sandwich with tofu, vegan cheese, tomato, and arugula on Texas toast, and we split an order of the Punk Toast (avocado, vegan butter, nooch, and black pepper). All delicious! I wanted more Punk Toast immediately after I finished mine. We added hash browns (the shredded kind) and they were awesome. Got a vegan TLT, was told the gluten free bread was vegan. After I ate it, I asked which brand they used. Turns out they use UDI's, which the farthest from vegan. They showed absolutely no remorse for feeding food that will ultimately make me sick. They offered me coffee, but unfortunately will not prevent me from getting sick. My favorite coffee shop in PGH!! It's basically the only one in the area, and draws in a really cool crowd. They have so so many vegan options- baked goods, savory breakfast sandwiches, drinks- and some non-veg ones too (no meat though, I'm pretty sure). They have almond, soy, and oat milk. Free WiFi and lots of tables makes it a great place to work for a while or read a book at the counter! The music is usually fun but not too overpowering that you can't relax/drown it out if need be. read more

Very fantastic. Hearty, creative vegetarian / vegan fare and rich, flavorful coffees. It's a smaller place tucked up in Polish Hill but plenty of places to park all around it. I had a vegan Rueben and a Thai tofu bowl and both were magnificently satisfying. I can't wait to go back for more. In fair weather there's a little outdoor porch with seating that is perfect. Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. Maybe I'll add more after I return soon for another meal. As of now I'm majorly gratified that this place exists. read more

This place is not a coffee shop. It is a small eatery located in a residential area. It is very weird for a place to charge a tip before actually provide the service, but that seems is a whole culture of service-tax pay. The coffee was stale and watery with no taste or aroma. The food was horrible and unpalatable. Build chunks of potato with what seemed to be red bean and what is meant to be chilli and two eggs with a side of off the market tostilla that seemed dry and stall. This nightmare was proved at $12. Potato were undone and the chilli salty and I decided to return back. If you really looks for a healthy vegan meal do not be fooled by this place. read more

This place recently changed names and owners. The staff is still lovely and the food is still good. But unfortunately, in the transition, it lost all of it's charm and warmth. Instead of wood counters, mismatched coffee mugs, and colorful art on the walls, it's all cold, impersonal metal and chrome now. They inexplicably painted the walls a medicinal, doctor's office blue, and took all the art by local artists down (maybe they plan to hang it back up eventually?) They eliminated a couple of tables to put a few seats at a counter that is right in front of the door when you walk in (which is just a really awkward place to sit with your back right to the door). They had a new array of deserts and pastries that looked delicious. There was a gorgeous pie right in front of the cash register, but unfortunately, it was RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CASH REGISTER, uncovered, so there was literally no way it wasn't teeming with the germs of everyone who had walked in and handed their money and credit card across it. Overall, I just didn't get this place. It doesn't really fit with the vibe of the neighborhood anymore, which is warmer, artsy, organic. I get it that the new owners had a vision for their new place, and the old one probably could have used a little fix up, but I don't know why they'd completely overhaul something that was obviously working. I know for some people it's all about the food, but ambience matters to me, so this isn't a place I'll go out of my way for anymore. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday because we read reviews that they had lots of vegan options. Unfortunately, on Sundays they offer only one breakfast choice and despite it including eggs and toast, they wouldn't make my child a plate of eggs and toast. It just seemed silly and sort of inexplicable. There were a handful of pastries available - my daughter ended up with a brownie that was not very good. They do not have almond milk - another thing I found odd - only soy and oat milk. My oat milk latte tasted like the coffee was scalded. All in all, a very disappointing experience. read more
