I placed an online lunch takeout order recently for a veggie burger with fries. Based on a special instruction I added to the order, the manager called to ask if I was vegan before they made the order since their bun and aioli have egg. Although I'm not, I was so appreciative of the effort they put in to make sure that the order fit my dietary needs! Also, the burger and fries were both cooked to perfection and so tasty. Highly recommend Butterjoint and their sister cafe, Sidecar!

We had a group of 17 people, and they easily were able to get us in! There's a parking garage across the street, so parking was not super difficult. Our group had mimosas and cocktails, which were delightful. Many of us ordered multiple dishes. For my meal, I ordered the quiche as well as the crumpets and jam. Both were tasty and delicious. My husband ordered the brown sugar pop tart, French onion soup, and their famous burger. He enjoyed every aspect of his meal. Our group also tried the pancakes as well as the crab benedict. Both of those dishes were so-so, and I wouldn't get them again! They have a little bakery/cafe on site where you can order pastries. They are also known for their vinegar pie, so of course, I had to try it! It was definitely a different flavor, and I am glad that I tried it. It tasted like a less sweet version of a pecan pie. The vinegar really helped to cut the sweetness. This restaurant was accommodating and the service was great. Their food was good but the company was even better. I will definitely be back!

The onions are in a container of water and they don't drain them before putting them on the dog, which completely ruined the experience. Customer service was pretty haphazard and rude, the lady behind the counter argued with us about the pricing - you can actually order a couple of the items with the toppings on them separately, as opposed to the "designed" items, for cheaper. the math is pretty easy, but homegirl wanted to argue. Honestly, I can't believe this place is open given all the competition for this type of food in Pittsburgh. One additional star given for the quality of the mustard, though. Overall booty and mediocre experience - it's a hot dog, do it right.

That it was takeout only presented a dilemma for me, as I was just visiting the North Side for the day by bus and foot, and had no place to take my order. Of the two people behind the counter, one could not have cared less about my dilemma, but the other was of some help with this and my order. I wound up walking two blocks downhill to a park with benches. Second, that all orders are cooked to order and take 25 minutes. Fortunately there is a branch of the Pittsburgh Public Library across the street and it was open, so that occupied my time. The food: the chicken and catfish are fried in light crispy breading, very fine. The chicken wingettes were delicious. The catfish was not easily flaked and was ever so slightly rubbery, which would have been a very bad sign if it had been any more so. But it wasn't too bad. Green beans are a good side dish at this sort of joint, and these were good, seasoned with meat and sautéed onions mixed in. The white rice was entirely plain but tasty.

In truth,…read moreit's such a favorite of mine that I headed there straight from the airport on my most recent visit. The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. It's pretty popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it moves pretty quick. The menu focuses heavily on crepes and French toast, and they do both very well. I went for a savory crepe that was loaded with eggs and topped with a rich sauce and diced vegetables. It came with a side of fresh fruit which was a nice touch. We also ordered a sweet crepe to share. It was beautifully presented with chocolate drizzle, berry sauce, and a massive pile of whipped cream. The coffee is solid too. Verdict: This is a consistent and reliable brunch spot. It was the perfect way to kick off my trip. I will definitely be back next time I am in town.

But the star of the show for me is the Shakshouka. I have gotten it the last 2 times I went. You also have to try their Dirty Chai. My only critique is the hostess at the front. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
